Deeply inconvenient truth many people really, really, really do not ever want to ever acknowledge much less discuss to find solutions for:

Cars are an accessibility tool.

Public transport is not safe for a variety of people and “just adding more buses and trains and making cities revolve around PT” will not actually address that.

(But nobody likes hearing about how tiny % of the population cannot reliably and safely use PT because they don’t want to actually envision what trying to accommodate that looks like)

#competing access needs are a real bitch tbh but NOBODY ever wants to account for them #when they talk about making things 'walkable' and 'improving PT systems' because it's not as simple and neat #as just making one system instead of having to accommodate multiple sets of mutually exclusive needs #i get it it's real hard and complex and a bit of a mess!! i don't blame ppl for being intimidated by it!#but it annoys me when people demonize the idea of the car while simultainously totally ignoring every single issue with their utopian vision #im not saying that trying to phase out cars and focus on PT is a bad thing #what i'm saying is that it has to be done with the understanding #that you MUST account for small %s of the population who have very specific needs #and not just brush those off as 'just stay in your house and never go to medical appointments' or 'just deal with it' because that's BS #that makes things a lot more complicated i fully admit that #but if you TRULY want a future that's greener and accessible you MUST be willing to account for people with specific needs #otherwise it's just greenwashed ableism and we see plenty of that as it is
