Ok but Knives actually kidnapped the child, not with any attempt to harm them, but to get Vash to come to him for once. He treats the Child well and is actually a semi decent uncle figure to them kidnapping aside... he just doesn't let them out of his sight cuz he needs Vash to come to him and the Child is the best way to do so. He wouldn't actually be able to hurt his new neohew or niece if he tried because the Child is able to soften even his heart, but Vash doesn't know that and fears the worst. He think Knives plans to hurt or even kill his child so he's rushing in, knowing it's a trap. Once Vash is in Knoves' clutches he doesn't plan to let either Vash or his new nephew/niece go

Knives kidnapping Vash’s kid? He about to learn today on childcare.

Knives found it waaaaaay to easy to kidnap his Brothers kid. Honestly, did Vash ever teach his kid about not trusting strangers?! Seriously Vash, how did your child survive with you as their dad?!

Suddenly his little niece woke up, and boy did Knives regret everything. His niece started crying loudly because she had no idea of where she was.

Niece: *crying* Waaaaaaaaahaahhha! I WANT MY DADDY!

Knives: Uuuuh, hi er…sweetie(?), I’m your uncle. Don’t worry you’ll be in great care.

Niece: ….

Knives: *internally* I think that worked!

Niece: *cries louder* I WANT MY DADDY!

It was then at this moment that everybody knew, (they fucked up….I’m sorry) they had no idea about how to take care of a child.

Legato: Sir, we know nothing about childcare! How are we supposed to get her to stop crying?!

Zazie: Wasn’t The Punisher great with kids?

Cue everyone regretting every choice they made

Legato: Should I get him?

Knives: No, I sent him after Vash to guide him here unharmed. We have to do this without him.

Zazie: This is gonna be good

Knives: Little one, your father will come soon. I can assure you that he will come.

Niece: *sniffles* He will?

Knives: Yes, he will. Now come, I’ll show you where you’ll be staying.

Knives held out his hand so that way he can guide her to where she would be staying. His niece takes it, and the two began walking to their destination.

Niece: Why do you kind of look like daddy?

Knives: I’m his twin. That’s why I almost look like him.

Niece: oooh.

Niece: Daddy looks cooler, You’re weird looking.

Knives: *heart shatters* W-well then.

They reached the room where his niece would be staying. She was mesmerized at what she saw. To her everything look cool, and she wanted to explore every nook and cranny.

Knives: I’ll be back later for you, don’t leave this room.

Niece: Ok!

Knives went off to continue to do some work. Which left his niece alone. What he doesn’t know is that his niece left her room and explored.

Legato: Are you sure leaving her alone is a good idea?

Knives: it’ll be fine, nothing bad will happen

Knives: Well shit.

Both Knives and Legato found his niece near the other plants, which set off an alarm.

Knives: Little One! What did I tell you?!

Niece: But I wanted to explore! I was really bored of exploring my room.

Knives was beginning to really regret all of his choices. Then he came up with an idea.

Knives: Little One, come with me. I have something to show you. Legato, look after everything.

Legato: On it.

Niece: Ooh! What is it!

They go to a room that has a piano. This room had a weird big statue that his niece had no idea what it was or why is was there.

Knives had sat down on the seat and began to play. He strummed from his heart, giving it his all. His niece stared at him, watching him intently.

Knives: *internally* Good, it’s keeping her distracted. My plan is working.

After he had finished playing, he looked over to her.

Niece: You play different than daddy!

Knives: I’m glad you noticed! I have made all my songs more refined, elegant, telling a compell-

Niece: Daddy is better

Knives: *soul crushed* ohhh, r-r-really? Don’t you like mine?

Niece: Not really

Knives: *soul leaving body* I see then

Knives learned that kids are brutally honest. Poor guy, he didn’t know.

After that his niece began to run around the base, now making it a game of hide and seek. Now everyone was on their toes trying to find Knives’ niece. They had no idea that little kids could run fast and vanish at the same time. It was hectic all around!

They also learned that getting kids to sleep was difficult to say the least. Even trying to put the Little One down for a nap was a chore. One night, Knives niece went to him crying because she wet the bed. Poor guy was on his last shred of sanity. He had no idea that children were this high maintenance.

She was only here for 5 days! How was it this difficult?! And how did she manage to escape her room?! It was locked?! And more importantly, how did she manage to practically get into restricted area?! (she really rubbed off from Vash didn’t she?)

But somehow, his niece was able to soften his heart. He never actually wanted to hurt his niece from the beginning, he actually wanted her to like him. He actually spent some time with her in order to not only get to know her, but to know what his brother is like being her dad. He wants his brother with him here too, to be a family together! Knives enjoys being his nieces uncle. He really enjoys her presence, even though he looks stoic at times. He’s got a reputation to uphold!

After a day or two, feed shows up that someone is here.

Legato: It’s your brother! He’s here!

Knives: Is he? Looks like my plan worked after all.

They hear noises coming from outside the room. As soon as Legato went up to the door to investigate, it was suddenly slammed open on his face, knocking him out.

It was Vash with is gun drawn out and had basically kicked the door open! Which was really impressive because that door is reeeaaally sturdy.

Vash: GIVE ME BACK MY BABY NAI!

Knives: Ahh, you’re here finally. Now then, we can finally-

Niece: DADDY! You’re here!

Knives: Wait, how did you-

Vash: I’m here now sweetie! I’m so sorry seedling that I couldn’t be here sooner!

Not long after The Punisher showed up behind Vash, all disheveled, sweaty, and gasping for air.

Wolfwood: *out of breath and wheezing* I’m…here…too!

Knives: Little One, I thought you were in the temporary cell I put you in? How did you get out?!

Vash: Oh, you have that problem too?

Knives: ….

Knives: *inhales and lets out a breath* What

Niece: Daddy, let’s go outside! I want to explore! Bye-bye weird uncle!

Knives watched as his niece practically disappear out the way that Vash came from, and watching his brother practically scrambling after her.

Vash: W-wait for me sweetie! Don’t just run off!

Everyone was just too stunned to process on what just happened, and that Vash was escaping!

Eventually Legato regained consciousness.

Wolfwood: Fuck

Knives: Just happened?

Needless to say, his plan almost did work. It’s just that, he was…really, really, really underprepared for his niece.

Next time, he’ll be more prepared…hopefully. His plan will work!

Old London Swings (pre-Revival, mostly late 80s and the 90s) Greycat/Hysperia/NBQ (nameless brown queen)- Greycat was sometimes known as NBQ, it depended on her costume, which ranged from grey to tan. Hysperia is a different cat who has sometimes been called NBQ by fans even though she isn't Greycat/NBQ AJ- "Almost Jemima". Female kitten Tabbygirl- more mature queen (usually covered adult roles) Patches- male kitten, often resembles Admetus Calico- male or female Caramel- male, looks very similar to Victor Victor- originated here but used in productions worldwide

The Named Swings Some of these are full ensemble characters in certain productions but when other productions cut that character or use an alternative, that name is often used for a swing. Admetus- when he's replaced by Plato, Admetus is sometimes used by a male/female swing Augustus Autumn Bill Bailey Carbucketty Electra Etcetera Exotica- first used to create a cameo for Femi Taylor (who played Tantomile in the OLC I'm pretty sure) in the 1998 film but has since been used for swings in large productions George- male kitten Jemima- female kitten Jonathan- male Murad- young male Noilly Prat- young female Olivia- young female Peter Quaxo- young male Victor- kind of an elderly male? his performer usually covers the older roles like Gus and Old Deuteronomy There's also a swing Babygriz in the current UK Tour

And now the mindfuck that is alternatives: Bill Bailey/Tumblebrutus- Bill Bailey originated in the original London production. Tumblebrutus was used instead of him on Broadway and in the 1998 film (the latter to maintain international something or other). In the 98 film it was Bill Bailey under the name Tumblebrutus. Carbucketty/Pouncival- Carbucketty originated in the original London production. As with Bill Bailey/Tumblebrutus, Pouncival was used instead of his London counterpart on Broadway and in the 1998 film. In the 98 film it was Carbucketty under the name Pouncival. Pouncival/George- the 2014 London Palladium production included a third male kitten aside from Carbucketty and Bil Bailey named Pouncival, who's design was actually much closer to the original London George character than to Carbucketty.

Quaxo/Mistoffelees- Big mindfuck! In UK-style productions, the performer is credited as Quaxo up until his song, where he is revealed to be The Magical Mr. Mistoffelees. This is usually explained as Mr. Mistoffelees being Quaxo's stage name. However, in some productions they're completely different cats, with Quaxo using a totally different design. Also, as Quaxo/Misto used to dance a tap dance duel against Jennyanydots while dressed as the lead beetle. Because of this, all pre-revival London productions attached the name Quaxo to the lead tap dancing beetle regardles of whether or not it was played by Mistoffelees. Plato/Admetus- Even bigger mindfuck! Admetus was the original double for Macavity in London and I think London-based prodctions still use Admetus. Plato is the Broadway version of the same cat. The Plato you see in the 1998 film is the Admetus design. Plato's design originally had a lot of brown and grey but since the 98 film, which used the Admetus design, you get a lot of "Admetus costume and makeup but named Plato". In productions where Plato is the Macavity double, the name Admetus is sometimes used for a swing (this is common in Australian-style productions) Admetus/George- This one is purely to do with the 98 film. Frank Thompson was credited with playing the Rumpus Cat and Admetus. Fans assumed the cat who was actually using the George design was Admetus, but it is unknown if the renaling of the George design to Admetus was intentional or not. Jemima/Sillabub- Jemima originated from the original London production but was renamed Sillabub in the US and in US-based prosuctions to avoid any negative racial connotations. Since then, the name Sillabub is used more often outside of Europe, though in productions where Sillabub is used as the principle version, the name Jemima is sometimes used for a female swing. Jemima is a named swing in the China 2012 and Shiki productions.

Other names There are two names in Old Possum's that haven't been used in any production (that I know of): James and Cat Morgan. Then there's Socrates, who is exclusive to the 2019 film.
