#manga covers#shibata yokusaru#man this series was a bizarre mess#but its a damn crime that there arent more protags like Maki#a fight series that actually let the women in it look and act like athletes#instead of barbie dolls that got mixed into the action figure toy bin by mistake#im not going to pretend i loved everything that went on in the story#like i said it was a mess#but the times when Maki was a badass were still pretty unapologetically cool#even with shibata's absolute jank ass art style#the anime also hasnt quite stood the test of time#some of the animation is really tightly budgeted#but conceptually so much of Maki's fighting style as a gymnast turned street fighter#is just so cool and unique to see#It's a weird cross section of fandom but I always imagined her fighting style#is how Dick Grayson should fight in the batman family of comics
