Do You Share Relevant and Effective Content?
Hello everyone, today I want to talk to you about how to create effective content and how to share it on your different social media platforms.
First you might be asking, how do I create effective content? Creating effective content is the harder part of the process, as it takes more time. When creating new content, you want to first look at your old content and complete a social media audit. This will help give you insight on what is working well for you, what isn’t, and where you might need to redirect your efforts so that they match the needs of your customers. You will also want to analyze what type of content your competitors are publishing on their sites.
After analyzing yourself and others, it’s important to make goals based on your findings. What do you want to accomplish through your social media platforms? How do you plan to implement these objectives in order to reach your goals?
One tool that I’ve found to be super helpful, is to create a content calendar. There are two types of calendars that would benefit your business, a weekly calendar, and a monthly calendar. The weekly calendar will provide a space where you can decide exactly which social media sites you are going to use every day that week along with what type of post they will be (informational, ad, inspirational, curated content, etc.), the topic they will be discussing, how exactly the post will be written out, and a link to the content if appropriate.

Next you want to create a monthly calendar. This calendar will have general planning ideas such as influencer take overs, campaign timeframe’s, product release dates, and blog posts. Social media doesn’t take long to change so it’s important that you only plan a week ahead in detail and that you give yourself room to change your posting ideas so that you stay up to date with the times.

Now that we’ve figured out how to create effective content, how do we share it? No matter which type of social media platform you decide to share content on, there are a few rules that are universal. First, each post must have a strong headline or caption. You need to create a post that will catch a followers attention and make them curious about what else you have to say. If you are using the same information and planning on using it across all of your social media sites, it’s ideal to capitalize on it. If it’s a blog post, share different parts of it on the different networks. For example, say you want to share an original article about the physical health benefits of gardening.
Twitter: Find out how you can become healthier by gardening here! (Include shortened link)
Facebook: (Pull out a quote) (Ask a question to invite the reader to click on the article) (Include article link)
Instagram: Did you know that gardening has physical health benefits? (Insert statistic) Read this article to find out more so that you can be healthier too! #gardening #healthy (Include article link)
LinkedIn: Here are the 10 Health Benefits of Gardening. After reading comment below how gardening has impacted you!   (Include article link)
In each example the article was presented, but in a way that was valuable to each platform. Twitter headlines should be clear and to the point with 120 characteristics or less. Facebook posts should also be shorter but should invite the audience to engage with the post. Instagram posts have the ability to be longer and should include at least a couple hashtags. While posting on LinkedIn, you want to be concise and create a clear call to action.

Now you may be asking yourself, why is any of this important? It’s important to know how to effectively develop and share content because the better your brand is at sharing relevant content, the more effective the organization will become at accomplishing its social media goals which in turn will make it a better social organization. According to The Social Organization, written by Anthony J. Bradley and Mark P. McDonald, “A social organization is one that strategically applies mass collaboration to address significant business challenges and opportunities” (p. 5). By applying mass collaboration, a business is actively trying to engage with their followers and grow the community that supports their organization. In order to grow your community, you need to be able to effectively develop and share relevant content to keep your followers engaged and excited about your business.
What are some things you want to start doing that will help your followers stay engaged with your brand?
