There's a longer post to be made on this topic (which I'm working on) but I think a lot of the MCU is downstream of the writers noticing that a lot of the grandfathered-in genre-standard superheroic elements legitimately didn't make a lot of characterization sense for most of the core Avengers roster, before proceeding to make several films demonstrating exactly why those elements stuck around in the comics for so long regardless of how little sense they made
