I wonder if in the DE universe, the invention of motor carriages was first made so companies could trade their goods through the Pale, because otherwise, horses would just go absolutely mad after a few trips back and forth? Motor carriages aren’t a very universal thing because they are extremely expensive to manufacture, so people typically get around by foot, bike, or horseback. The only people who have motor carriages are companies (for the use of transportation through the Pale), the RCM (for pursuit of people in runaway lorries), and people who are rich enough to have a personal motor carriage (apparently Soona’s got a ton of money for this logic though, she mentions having one).

Do we have info on the Invention Of Things in the DE universe?

#it’s neat thinking about how ‘cars’ in this universe are a very new thing #and there are people (like Plaicance) who think of the technology as evil #also the game says a motor carriage for the RCM costs about 40k-45k reál to buy #idk what the conversion rate for reál and usd is #but the currency of reál seems to be very consistent #a hotel room costs 20 reál a night #and usually a night at a similar place is like. $100? so i guess 1 reál has 5x the spending power of a US dollar #so by that logic an RCM officer scrapes by with a salary of about $25k a year (i recall them saying they make 5k reál?)#and a Coupris motor carriage costs roughly 40k-45k reál #(or $200k-$225k)
