the argument that portrayal isn’t necessarily endorsement means nothing to me actually. literally everyone with a shred of media literacy knows that, and i think poc who watch spn and recognize when something’s fucked up WAY more easily than any white fan definitely have it. portrayal isn’t always endorsement but that doesn’t mean it’s your place to do the portraying. you still have biases and at the end of the day you can be the world’s greatest ally and still write something that hurts people. if you write about an experience you don’t have and then someone who lives through that experience every day says that it’s harmful they have the right to express that and you don’t get to invalidate them.
