ideologically opposed to like "world music" as a category and the idea you could be taught anything meaningful about The Music of The World in a semester is laughable.. HOWEVER I will always take those modules bc where else am i going to get my bops from sorry the textbooks are always exclusively fire

#also all the lecturers also hate it #hilarious subject to take bc the first lecture of the term is always like #this is a fucked up category and it shouldn't exist #you should be learning about pop music from Africa in your pop music classes and folk music from India in your folk music classes #but unfortunately since you aren't id rather teach you abt it here than not at all #and then just. *spits on western art music and kicks it to death with my hooves *#also NOT implying the pop music of Africa is homogeneous and tbh neither is the traditional music of India #just like. none of it is taught #tbh I'm fine w the idea of like #this is a uni in the ik/ireland so we will learn primarily abt tht tradition #and then teach u abt other traditional music's more simplistically #but why is line bhangra and indian classical music taken as one object to both be taught in like #20 mins #let alone like completely unrelated musics from completely unrelated countries #because they are World
