bee meet cute ideas buzzing around my head:

so we know that after abu dhabi, lewis hid from the world in colorado. what if, fuelled by anxiety about leaving his safe bubble for the 22 season, he impulse buys a little place in a little town in switzerland. it’s isolated, it’s got mountains, no one there knows him - it’s basically the same, right?

initially he does use it as a hideaway. the car is bad, the results aren’t coming, and everyone wants to talk about last season. after imola, he goes straight there, doesn’t even bother going back to his place in monaco.

but time moves on, and he heals, and the season starts improving, and he keeps going back. he stops hiding in the house and starts venturing into town. people raise their heads as he goes by. he doesn’t know if it’s because they recognise him or because he stands out - either as (let’s be real) the only black person in the little swiss town or just because he’s a new person. but, after they raise their heads, they nod. then they smile. and after a couple times, they greet him as he goes into town and stops by the bakery for fresh bread as a little treat to himself. the guy at the till speaks decent english, so they start to make small talk, eventually even medium talk. turns out he just works at the counter, and the mysterious baker remains a mystery. lewis thought he glimpsed him in the back once, while he was telling the counter guy how he misses good pastries since he went vegan. the next week, there’s a small batch of vegan raspberry danishes there.

one day on his walk back from town, he sees a table set up in a front garden. the small jars laid out on it are filled with honey. someone has doodles little bees buzzing about on the lids. there’s a sign that lewis has to use his phone to translate, telling him it’s from a local hive, and a small box for donations to reinvest in setting up more hives. lewis takes one, drops the only note he has in his wallet into the box, and tries the honey it with his bread the next morning.

it’s perfect. it tastes like switzerland, like the green and the mountains, like his new world he’s making for himself. the next time he sees the stand of jars, he buys an extra one to give to angela, and donates an unreal amount. the third time he sees the stand, he goes to pick up his jars and remembers an article he saw on twitter about whether honey was actually vegan. he wishes he’d read the article instead of just scrolling past the headline in a brief quiet moment between practices. he’s lingering there for at least five minutes, torn because his googling hasn’t made the issue any clearer. then a voice calls out from inside the house:

the cottage is close enough to monaco that he can just pack up a duffel bag in the morning and be there early afternoon. roscoe loves it, loves the garden where he can chase after butterflies. lewis does his yoga on the soft green grass. it's grounding, in a way. he tries to spend as little time online as possible.

he goes to the bakery -- it sells wonderful sourdough and the rye bread isn't half bad either. once he pops in in the morning and brings a loaf for miles who's competing in [insert european country for some international tournament], who's delighted to have it toasted and with hummus after he wins (i know nothing of fencing i'm so sorry everyone).

the quick glimpse of the baker, if it's even them, reveals nothing more than a copper glint from the corner of his eye, but the next time he comes, the clerk is SO happy to see him, immediately pointing out the raspberry danishes -- also, lewis probably hasn't been there in a week or so due to a race, meaning that mystery baker has made the pastries every day ever since in the hopes that lewis would show up :(

the small doodles on the jar... and the note is signed off with a smiley with an actual nose: :-) he only has a 20 euro bill but it feels like a fair trade when he tries it the next morning with his vegan butter (omg anon you and me both like clicking our togues, trying to calculate with a cocked head how lewis would feel about whether honey is actually vegan... nobody tell us please. let us live in wistful ignorance). and then the voice calls out and by the gate, a scruffy man stands, the wind picking up stray strands of his curly hair. his name is sebastian he's beautiful in an unruly, earnest way, like combing his hair is the least of his priorities. it suits him somehow. sebastian's soft spoken and funny, invites lewis into his garden and shows him the hives, and somehow it feels like he's almost showing off. they have a discussion about whether it's exploitation -- the way sebastian's eyes glitter when he talks about his bees, it doesn't feel like it is. they sit on sebastian's porch and drink homemade lemonade and then sebastian brings out these soft vegan pretzels with sunflower seeds on top and lewis tells him that it's even better than the ones he gets from the town bakery and somehow that's what makes sebastian blush, his lovely cheeks coloring pink.

The engine sputters as the pick-up truck strains against its old, rusted frame to make it up the gravel hill. It has long gotten used to the pavement and asphalt roads from the large city, where it lived out cold winters and sweltering summers in an underground parking lot.

Optimus Primal glances over at his husband, watching as his jaw clenches in irritation at his truck. Optimus places his hand on Dinobot’s arm, a reminder for him to stop biting the inside of his mouth when he gets frustrated. They both know it’s on it’s last limbs, yet Dinobot refuses to get rid of it. So many memories have happened in this truck. Some of Dinobot’s, some of Optimus’. Too many for his husband to even consider getting rid of the battered blue truck.

Dinobot’s wide shoulders fall as he takes a deep breath and Optimus removes his hand. He turns back to the open window, the heat from the humid July weather still filling the truck, just as it had the entire six hour drive to their new property.

He can see the farm house from here. The roof sticks out from the long grass that covers the winding acres of land that he can’t believe is his. There’s no music playing from the speakers. They had given up trying to fix the radio. All they can hear is gravel crunching against the tires and the chirp of birds and the soft hissing of the bugs hiding in the grass. It’s not an awkward silence, it’s an exciting one. He is so excited for the things to come. He has a husband, as insane as that sounds to his brain. He has a husband that is completely his.

The truck finally pulls up the hill and into the driveway. It shakes as it breaks, slightly faulty and engine overworked. He unbuckles his seat belt and waits until the doors unlock before getting out. The sun is against his skin, and he has to squint to see the fading red paint of the farmhouse.

Dinobot comes from the driver seat of the car, two duffel bags on each shoulder. Optimus takes one out of his hands. He looks back at the farmhouse, smile on his lips.

“Are you ready?” he asks Dinobot without turning to face him. The question is for himself as much as it is for his husband.

“Yes,” Dinobot responds, and Optimus can tell from his tone that he doesn’t understand how big of a deal this is for him. He’s back where he should be. Dinobot thought of his family farm as a prison, Optimus thought of his own as what it’s supposed to feel like. Home. A family. Any word that applies to a feeling of comfort.

The two make their way into the house, floorboards creaking under their collective weight. The home smells like mothballs, the air is stuffy and not affected by the warm Canadian summer.

The walls have a light blue with darker blue swirls as it’s wallpaper, and Optimus is already making plans on how he would change it. Dinobot doesn’t seem to care, face emotionless.

The stairs make more noise than the rest of the house, groaning loudly as he walks up it.

The upstairs doesn’t look any better, with pink flower wallpaper and every door in the hallway shut tight.

Optimus only saw a few photos online of the home, but it was the acres of land for such a cheap price that made him buy it. He gives Dinobot a glance. “Let’s find a bedroom. At least then we can put our bags down and see what our sleeping situation is like.”

Dinobot grunts a response, and Optimus guesses he’s not in the mood for conversation. Optimus isn’t either, but he fears that he has been left with his own thoughts for too long and craves the comforts his husband brings. They step into what is supposed to be the master bedroom. It’s big, oddly big. It has depressingly blue curtains covering a large window that overlooks the driveway and some of the tall grass. The bed post is void of a mattress, but the actual frame itself has pretty designs carved into it. Optimus doesn’t know what they’re supposed to be, they look like flowers more than anything else. “We’ll have to sleep on the floor,” he points out, “unless we can find a couch or you want to sleep in the truck.” The delivery guys wouldn’t get there until at least the next day, and that was him optimistically reaching. He knew he could have—and should have—waited until the moving company arrived, but he needed to get out of the city.

Dinobot scowls a little at the thought of having to sleep on the floor. Optimus reminds him that they slept on the floor for a month in their first apartment.

“We’d get eaten alive by bugs if we stay in the truck,” Dinobot says. The window in that load of shit didn’t roll up all the way, making for annoying winters.

“That’s true.” Optimus still wanted to see the rest of their little farmhouse. Now realizing that it seems bigger on the inside than the outside.

Optimus sets down his bag next to the bed frame, and Dinobot hesitates for two or three seconds before setting it down beside his husband’s.

In the span of a few hours, they had throughly explored everything, including the barn and the suspicious looking shed at the far edge of the property. The basement door is locked, there is no attic despite the pointed roof being perfect attic shape, and there is a closet that Optimus feels needs a lock in the master bedroom. The kitchen, bathroom, and guest bedroom are completely normal — or, as normal as a room could get in a house like this. He wonders if the laundry room is supposed to be in the basement.

Once it starts getting late, they head outside and sit on the porch. They eat sandwiches they had packed for the drive up and then stayed to bask in the sunlight until it set down below the tree line.

They stay out until the crickets start chirping and the mosquitos come out. The sky darkens after a while, not dark enough for the stars to peak out from the folds of the scattered clouds.

Optimus rests his head against Dinobot’s chest, sharing his heat with his husband. His back is against the wood of the farmhouse, and he can see the forest through the gaps in the railway.

He yawns, eyes shutting for a moment. When he opens them, there is two white dots staring at him from the darkness of the forest. He blinks. It’s still there. What is that? There is barely any light for an animals eyes to reflect off of.

An uncomfortable feeling rests in his gut. He stands up, and Dinobot sighs dramatically at the loss of warmth Optimus brung.

“Let’s go in, yeah?” Optimus suggests, because he doesn’t want to admit that two dots of white light out in the distance scares him enough to want to go inside.

Dinobot gives him an odd look, opening his mouth to speak. He shivers before he can say anything and seemingly decides that being slightly chilly isn’t worth it.

As soon as Dinobot shuts the door, the feeling stops. He is not being watched anymore. Although, thinking that he’s being watched is illogical. He is overreacting. Optimus’ husband rubs his shoulder, then starts walking upstairs.

“Will you join me on the floor, Optimus?” Dinobot inquires, a small smile on his lips, hand outstretched as if he is a prince asking his lover to a dance.

Optimus smiles. “Of course.” He takes Dinobot’s hand, pulling himself onto the same step the taller man is on.

Dinobot pulls him to his chest, kissing the top of his head. Optimus laughs a little, looking up at him, eyes soft.

The floor isn’t as uncomfortable as Optimus suspected it to be. It’s better with a blanket underneath to stop splinters from getting into Optimus’ bare back. It’s hot upstairs, and it’s hotter with another body curled up next to him.

Dinobot shivers next to him as if it’s they had just come in from a snowstorm. He presses his face into Optimus’ naked chest, feeling the warmth of his skin against his lips and nose.

“Are you sure there isn’t another blanket?” Dinobot asks, his breath is making Optimus’ head feel fuzzy with love.

“Yes, I’m sure. Do you need me to check again?” he questions, rubbing circles along his lover’s back.

“Stay.”

“Alright.” Dinobot’s request relieves Optimus. He knows that there might be another blanket in the truck, but he doesn’t want to go out there, in a place he still has yet to fully explore, with whatever wild animals could be lurking. He’s no stranger to creatures coming around, but this place makes him feel odd. Dinobot snuggles closer to him, his hair tickling Optimus’ chest with each strand. Optimus wakes up in the middle of the night to a clawing at the kitchen window. He ignores it.

Ok, I'm so sorry - I know I'm pestering you with all the Jeffrey thoughts now. I was honestly going to just reply to the last post instead of an ask then..... well, then I realized there was something I wanted to share that required photographic evidence. (You've probably already noticed, but I was like !!! When it struck me. And my God, it's a mundane detail, but idk, it stuck with me.)

But first (because it's related and made me think of this other random thing), I like to think he was sleeping and someone tucked the Playboy in his hand and snapped the pic as a prank.

But, have you ever noticed his duffel he's got his head on?

I was poking around online one day, looking at pictures of Jeffrey, as one does, and came across a pic of him from the Discovery Era. Also, a great looking time - very stylish, and his legs look very long in this time period for some reason? Maybe he slimmed down some and started wearing fitted suits that accentuate them, idk. But, i digress. In the pic below, I realized I think it's the same duffel.

In the first pic, there's not many tags on it at all. In the second, there are like a ton of luggage tags attached at the strap hook. Idk why, but I find it endearing that he may have kept the same duffel for traveling for what's that, about 6-7 years, maybe? He could buy so much luggage. He could buy a luggage factory. But he uses the same black leather travel bag year after year. (Maybe he's super thrifty!)

I just felt the need to share this completely random factoid.

Also, yes! His nails! They always look very nice and clean. Why i ever picked up on it, I'll never know, but I do know you're not alone in taking note. The man seems to care about his appearance, which is somehow really sweet.

Ok, I'll stop pestering now, lol! May the new year bring better things than the last!

He didn’t plan to leave the country last second, no one really did. But, there Vante was, sitting in an airport with his face covered up with sunglasses, a beanie, face mask, and even a hoodie on for extra measure. He didn’t want anyone to see him, he didn’t need to be seen like this, not after what had happened. He was just lucky to be alive and to be able to get a place to stay last second.

With the summer around, a lot of people were more than willing to rent out their homes or anything at a good price. Vante didn’t want a hotel or a home, he didn’t trust himself to be alone. He didn’t think it’d be smart to do. So, he rented out a room he had seen an ad for online, one that was in a huge home not too far away from town with an orchard of peach trees in the backyard that belonged to a daily of three.

He had bought the plane tickets and the room for the whole summer an hour before he boarded the flight with nothing more than a duffel bag as his carry on shoved with last second clothes and an ipod as a carry on item. When you’re wanting to leave behind your entire life, you don’t really want to pack that much. And when you’re filthy fucking rich, you can just buy what you need when you get there.

The plane had landed early in the morning, taking some time to change out of his clothes into something more comfortable. Even though no one would suspect Vante of being there, he still kept on his face mask, though he changed his hoodie and sweatpants for a pair of shorts and flannel he bought at the airport.

He got a taxi to go to the house he would now be residing in, his eyes watching everything pass them by, a smile never leaving his lips. He was more than excited, it wasn’t every day you get a chance to live a new life and it also wasn’t every day that your new life would be in Italy. Call it ironic, but the brunette found himself to be more than lucky.

He arrived at the house not too long after the taxi had picked him up, admiring the beautiful stone as they pulled into the gravel sidewalk, an older man and woman stepping out of the house just as Vante stepped out, large smiles on both of their faces. They didn’t seem too old, maybe old enough to be his parents actually.

“Hello!” The woman cooed, stepping over to Vante and held onto his hands, placing kisses to his cheeks. “Oh darling, welcome! I’m Anella and this is my husband Samuel!”

“Hi, it’s nice to be able to meet you both.” He smiled at the greetings from Anella, turning to Samuel to shake his hand, a small feeling of nervousness in his stomach. “I know you guys have my name and all but..can you just call me V for a while? I prefer that right now.” That, and not everyone in Italy was named Vante. He didn’t want to risk hearing a fan saying his name and sounding the alarms.

Both parents didn’t mind, simply agreeing and went into small talk about the flight and drive to the home, already asking how V liked Italy even though he had only been there for an hour at most.

“Ah, Elio can help you with those bags! Here, let me call for him.” Samuel went to the front door yelling the name he spoke of only to get no response.

“Samuel, he left earlier, remember?”

“It’s alright, I can get it myself. It’s not heavy anyways.” V chuckled softly, throwing the bag over his shoulder, using a hand to brush back his dark locks. “Is Elio your son?”

“Yes, he is!” Anella smiled at the mention of her son, sighing softly as she led both V and her husband inside, V already entranced with the home and took in what details he could on the way in. “He should be home in time for lunch. Hopefully you two can become friends.”

“Oh, I hope so too.” V chuckled softly, though knowing that might not be true. V wasn’t the best with kids so he was pretty sure that he would have a hard time making friends with the boy. But he couldn’t say that to their faces. Not when he hadn’t even met the boy just yet. “Your room will be up the stairs, the last door to your left. We put some spare clothes in the closet for you to wear when you would like to.”

Elio nodded and gave a gentle thank you before he went to the room that would now be his room for the next three months. It wasn’t that big but it wasn’t small either, just big enough for a desk, bed, and the big dresser with the clothes as promised. He went to the door that was next to the dresser to find a bathroom and then another door. Out of curiosity, he opened the second door to show another bedroom. However, this one looked lived in. There were posters on the walls, books sprawled here and there. It was probably the son’s room.

V took a much needed shower but put on the clothes he had gotten at the airport, sighing to himself as he rubbed his face and went to the window, opening it up. It was nice, the air, the crispness of it. It probably smelled that much fresher with all of the trees near them.

Soon, it was lunch. The three sat at a table outside underneath string lights that weren’t lit up just yet, it probably usually was for dinner and for events. The idea sounded cute, hopefully he would be able to see it tonight.

“Where is that boy?” Anella sighed, taking some juice to pour into her cup.

“Patience, my love. Perhaps he got too caught up. Maybe he’s on his way home now or-”

“Sono qui, sono qui! Scusa, sono così in ritardo, non volevo..” A boy suddenly ran in, one who looked about V’s age. He had a head full of curly hair that had been in a shorter cut, freckles spreading across his nose and cheeks, thick eyebrows, and piercing blue eyes. He was..handsome. The boy turned to V, a small smile on his lips as he nodded his head as a little greeting, sitting down in the chair next to him, though a bit farther, shaking his hand. “Elio. Nice to meet you.”

“V.”

The lunch went on smoothly, V mainly sitting in silence as he ate except for answering small talk questions and complimenting the food as he ate. He couldn’t help but steal a few glances at Elio every so often while sharing barely any words with him. Lunch was done fairly quickly, Elio excusing himself to go back to seeing his friends, saying he’d be back for dinner.
