“Then we’re gonna get along just fine.” A squad of Imperial remnant soldiers? Yeah, Zeb had no problem blowing that out of the sky. He eyed the ex-Imperial who’d spoken from his spot in the co-pilot’s seat, where he reclined with his hands braced behind his neck. Like any member of the Rebellion, Zeb lent a little extra scrutiny to any Imperial defector, but they were quicker than most to let present action wash away past sins. Besides, Kallus apparently thought well of Iden, and Kallus was a pretty good judge of character   (at least, Zeb liked to think so).
“Real middle of nowhere, this place.” Zeb waved a big paw at the planet lit up on their star chart. Some pit stop on the very edge of the Outer Rim, nearly into the Unknown Regions. “What’s the Empire want with it?”

“yes I did. sit.” he gestured roughly towards the couch of the apartment he’d... taken over of. the apartment almost reminded him of the couch padme had in hers on coruscant however that one had been much more comfortable. anakin quickly walked to what the apartment proclaimed was a refresher to grab the first aid kit. “well? I said sit.” he threw the box onto the table next to the couch with a grimace. “how did the bombing go? from what I saw it went well. I know much has happened since then but I want your perspective. did it send the correct message?”

From the way she spoke, the woman seemed to understand her PLIGHT. Curious. Iden Versio, leader of the Inferno Squadron, waxing poetic with her in the middle of a hangar. Could such a person be allowed to voice anything resembling wavering loyalty to the Empire? Did she not believe the promises of order and stability? Lexa wasn’t sure what to make of the interaction, but the other’s words struck a chord within her. For far too long, she had let herself be CONTROLLED by others ( her situation was far more complicated, but still ). The inquisitor let a few beats pass between them before responding. “ That is quite a sentiment, commander. You have given me much to think about. ”

“Trust me,” Her voice came through the comms with very low bottom-end. “He’s a Solo, he can’t help but show off. If I keep at it,” Rey meant the fancy flying she was currently doing around the star destroyer. “I guarantee you we’ll see his ship out here in record time.” The jedi focused her attention on shaking the two TIE fighters on her tail. She rolled the Falcon so Chewie could get a better angle at their enemies. “Once Ren comes out you all can ‘blast that hunk of junk out of the sky!’” She did the fake deep voice and everything. But in all seriousness, getting Kylo Ren out of his fortress would open up a big opportunity for the Resistance.

Star Wars Battlefront III Wishlist
If we ever get a Battlefront III, here’s what I’d like to see
Part 2
Features
Ground to Space Combat. which allows you to hop into a starship, offer support to ground troops, and then fly directly to space to join the battle there. A perfect example is the alpha trailer for the original Battlefront III
A Campaign for all 3 eras. Since Anthony Skordi is hinting on his twitter of more things for Admiral Versio, perhaps we could get a Clone Wars era campaign where we play as Garrick Versio? For Empire, we could play more as Iden Versio prior to her defection to the Rebellion. And finally, we play as Zay Versio and a new generation of Inferno Squad, which all ends with the battle of Exegol
Giving us every hero that came before and more.
Giving us every weapon in Star Wars canon
Actually giving us all 3 eras. Every major planet. Every major Starship. Every skin for the heroes and troopers and pretty much everything
Every trooper skin that came before, with the addition of Ahsoka’s  332nd Company, also all these skins should appear for the Imperials and FIrst Order
Do what was done with Squadrons for Starfighter Assault
Every ground vehicles, including the Spider Droids and Hailfire Droid tank.
More Hunt modes. Ewok Hunt mode is great, but what I would kill to have Operation Knightfall, a Hunt mode between Jawas and droids, Tusken Raidiers and Jawas and hey we could even have a mode where Rey scavenges in Jakku

Come With Me Now (Iden Versio x Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Iden Versio x Fem!Reader
Prompt: 25. “You’re mine. I don’t share”  | Prompts
Word Count: 2.9k Words
Warnings: Suggestive Themes, A curse word here or there
Summary: Hask and Iden make a bet over who can make you fall in love with them first; Clearly Iden has the high ground in this situation. A/N: We’ve been lacking on some Iden content lately so here’s a request I received for her! Please enjoy :3
“Let’s make a bet, hm?” Hask spoke to Iden as the two walked through the halls of the Eviscerator. His words caused the commander of Inferno Squadron to raise an eyebrow at the male beside her. They didn’t have time for such little things, but she supposed she could play along just this once; Whatever the bet was going to be she was bound to win anyway. Hask was always terrible at them no matter how good he claimed to be.
What’s the bet?” She questioned as she nodded to a few passing troopers who saluted at her before they continued to make their way to wherever their destination was. Hask couldn’t help the smirk that appeared on his face as the two of them continued to make their way through the busy halls to the hangar bay where Del was waiting for them.
“You know the mechanic that works on our ships, the female one?” He questioned to which Iden thought it over quietly. Of course she knew about who he was talking about. He was talking about you, the mechanic that she would talk to just about every night after they returned from their missions or whenever she struggled to sleep. She spoke with you just about every chance she got and as fun as work is to talk about, she took that time to get to know you and you did the same to her; It was a surprise you two weren’t together at this point. Plus, how could she forget about you when you had such amazing looks? Your (h/c) hair, your (e/c) eyes shining under the lights within the hangar; How the top of your black coveralls were always tied tightly around your waist, exposing your arms and the grey tank top you always wore under it. How you always had a determined look on your face as your focus was on whatever ship you were fixing at the time, your arms always covered in oil and grease from the ships but you never minded it. You enjoyed the mess because it showed the higher ups that you were doing your job and you were doing it right; There wasn’t a single ship that you touched that returned with problems. You were one of these best mechanics the Empire had to offer and it just so happened you’d be stationed with Inferno Squad on the Eviscerator.
Shaking her had to get herself out of her thoughts, Iden gave Hask a small hum as she shifted her gaze in his direction.
“I do. Her name is (Y/N) if I remember right. What about her though?” She questioned as she noticed the mischievous look in Hask’s eyes. She couldn’t help but raise her eyebrow once more at the male; She sadly didn’t get to ponder his question about you for very long before he began to speak about the little bet he had in mind.
“Well, we both know she’s very nice looking, correct?” He asked to which Iden gave a small nod. She could get behind that statement; You were very nice looking as she recalled her thoughts from earlier plus a few new ones; How she would watch you work on their TIE’s and how your arms would flex whenever you held something up or began to put things together, how your body would twist and bend to get into just the right spot to fix whatever it was you were doing. You were perfect in just about every way possible and she wanted you for her own, the only problem was she never had the time to actually ask you out properly. Plus from what she could recall from the few times she was able to talk to you, you didn’t exactly have the time either; You were always crammed with a list of things that needed to be fixed on the ship and it often drove you up walls, but you somehow managed to balance it all and Iden was heavily impressed. She wished she had that skill as well as yours. But even in the middle of a war, she could still vividly see your smiling face and how bubbly and outgoing you were in the cafeteria whenever she would hear your voice talk with the other mechanics and engineers. She loved your laugh, she loved your voice; She loved you. She was quickly taken out of her thoughts yet again as Hask continued to speak as they neared the hangar.
“I figured that the bet could be this: The first person to ask her out and have her agree to the date gets out of doing mission reports and debriefs for about a month.” He explained to Iden, shifting his gaze in her direction as a grin appeared on his face. He seemed so confident that he would win this little bet that Iden couldn’t help the small chuckle that left her form. She found it adorable that he thought such things but she clearly had the upper hand here. He didn’t know about the little nightly meetings you two would have here and there; How she knew just about everything about you already and how easy it would be to win this. She saw in your eyes the last couple of times you two were together. You had those love struck eyes as you gazed at her form every time she spoke to you. You would get lost in her words, her voice and would often just space out mid-work as you stared at her, allowing your mind to go rampant with daydreams of the two of you. You would often be brought back by her snapping her fingers at you and it would always cause you to quickly look away as a blush would appear on your face, quickly apologizing for spacing out and making up some excuse that you were just thinking of how to fix whatever you were working on. Iden couldn’t help but smile at the memories that crossed her mind but stopped just outside the doors that led to the hangar. She turned to Hask and asked but one simple question.
“I think you have yourself a deal there, Hask. But before we shake on it, do we have a time range to win this little bet?” She questioned, hands on her hip as she watched the man think it over before he gave a nod.
“I say… Three weeks? That seems more than enough time to woo her over, no?” He questioned to which Iden smirked and held her hand out to the man before her; He was going to lose this and she was going to be report and debrief free for a whole month.
“Sounds good to me. Let’s shake on it then, hm?” She spoke to which Hask couldn’t help but chuckle and take her hand in his, giving her hand a firm shake before the two made their way into the hangar as if they didn’t just make that bet. It didn’t take the two long to spot your form over by a TIE fighter, specifically Del’s TIE. He was standing nearby, leaning against a crate with his arms crossed as he talked with you as you worked on it, grease and oil already covering your exposed arms and face. You couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped your throat as you looked towards him.
“Well maybe if you stopped flying straight into dogfights so much your ship wouldn’t be here so often, now would it?” You teased the tall man who blushed lightly in embarrassment and rolled his eyes at your statement.
“Oh yes, by all means let me stop doing my job so you have to stop doing yours.” He teased you with a laugh to which you just chuckled and continued to rewire the guns on his TIE, which just so happened to have been shot off during a dogfight with the Rebels just two weeks ago; It was a miracle the man was alive with how much damage had been done to the TIE. It had taken you about a week to get it back to a somewhat normal state but you managed to do it with a lot of luck and elbow grease. Of course somewhere in the middle of it though you really debated on telling him to get issued another TIE and to leave this one to be scrapped for parts but you felt as if this was a challenge to really test your skills. So your determined spirit kept you going and sure as shit here you were, finishing up the last few repairs the ship needed. It wasn’t long before you heard the female commander speak up behind you.
“Well I’ll be damned.. This thing almost looks brand new. You sure you didn’t just bring a new one over here, (Y/N)?” Iden complimented your work and questioned you all the same time to which you blushed lightly and turned to face them, looking at Iden with a smile as you rubbed your forehead with the back of your hand.
“Thanks, I tried my best. And no, I didn’t get it replaced with a new one.” You told her as you moved your hand away from your head. Iden couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her as grease was smeared in a line across your forehead; She found it oddly adorable how you were always so messy.
“Well, your best is damn near impressive, (Y/N).” She told you, a smile on her face as she watched you shift about. She could tell just by looking at you that just being near her made you flustered and it should have been a clear sign to Hask what he was up against. She shifted her gaze to him to see if he had taken note and with the small, annoyed expression on his face she could tell he did notice it.
“Thank you, Commander Versio. I um- I should get back to work, I’m assuming you and your squadron are heading out soon?” You questioned to which the female nodded to answer your question.
“We are but please, don’t rush yeah? I can’t have one of my members blowing up me because of a misplaced wire, now can I?” She teased to which you blushed lightly and gave her a nod along with a small ‘Yes commander’ before you returned to the TIE fighter just behind you. Del couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as he shifted his gaze to Iden, almost as if saying with just his eyes alone ‘what was that?’ Iden couldn’t help but grin towards him and looked at Hask who looked right back at her, her eyes almost commanding him to try and beat her little show just now. All Hask could do was huff and look away, mumbling to her a ‘I’ll do it later’ before he wandered off in the direction of his TIE fighter. Iden couldn’t help but smirk; She was going to win this bet. You’d be hers in three weeks time.
-----------------
Within those three weeks it was as though Hask’s whole attitude had suddenly changed; He became more cold and mean towards Iden and Del, even when on missions his harsh tone would follow him about. And the reason for the sudden shift in attitude? With every attempt he used to try and woo you and win your heart, you turned down each and every one of them and Iden couldn’t help but laugh at them. He truly was working his ass off in order to impress you; Whether it was talking to you after he returned from missions to attempting to flirt with you in the cafeteria. Iden just shook her head at it all; She knew she had you in the back of her pocket already. She could see it in your eyes whenever you two talked; The way your face would heat up, the way you would occasionally stutter and trip over your words. She had you falling for her with just a few simple words and with each new meeting, your blush would grow and you would begin to stutter more and more.
It was no surprise that Hask was trying his last attempt to woo you at this very moment as Iden made her way down the halls and saw you pinned against the wall by him, an annoyed and uninterested look on your face as Hask did all he could, pulling out just about all the stops this time around.
“Come on, (Y/N).. Maybe we can go to the cantina later on, order a few drinks and see where the night takes us.” He told you, his voice dropping to a low tone. You couldn’t help the shudder that ran down your spine but it wasn’t because his flirtation was working; It was far from it, actually. You were disgusted and wanted nothing more than to just slip away and go back to the hangar to work on your long list of things you needed to get done today.
“Agent Hask, as lovely as that sounds.. I’ll have to decline. Again.” You told him, your voice sounding bored out of it’s mind and Hask couldn’t help the low growl that began to escape his throat before Iden spoke up as she made her way over.
“(Y/N)! Just the girl I was looking for.” She spoke, a smile on her face as she approached you both. Hask could see the way your mood suddenly shifted; You were blushing, your gaze on anything but her and he could see the look in your eyes and it only pissed him off more. He turned his head to look towards Iden, his eyes narrowed as he moved away from you and watched the event unfold before him.
“I wanted to ask you something, maybe you could give me an answer?” She questioned you to which you glanced at her before quickly looking away, giving her a small nod.
“A-Anything you ask, Commander.” You told her, shifting your weight as you began to play with your hands. They were yet again covered in oil and grease and each time you began to rub at your hands, you smeared the oil and grease around them and it couldn’t help but bring a grin to Iden’s face as she spoke up.
“How about you and me get off this ship for a while later tonight, hm~?” She questioned, her voice dropping low as she placed a hand on your hip; She felt the way you tensed under her touch. She couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped her throat as she continued, knowing fully well that Hask was watching with an annoyed look.
“Maybe one thing will lead to another…” She spoke in a low whisper, moving herself as close to you as she could get and you could practically feel your body heating up despite wearing the usual grey tank top. You opened your mouth to speak but all that you could manage was a small squeak. You really were attempting to get the words out of your throat but you were struggling and Iden couldn’t help but chuckle once more at you. Iden found it adorable that she had this power over you; To reduce you to nothing but putty in her hands with just a few simple words. And she didn’t even have you in her bed yet.
“I- Um- Commander I uh-” You started, taking a deep breath to try and relax yourself. Now was your chance to ask her out, to finally have Iden Versio as your partner for however long this was going to last. No longer would Hask attempt to flirt with you in the halls or whenever they returned from missions; He’d finally leave you alone and if he did try anything, you knew Iden would kick his ass for you. You couldn’t lie to yourself any longer either; Iden was very pretty and you fell head over heels for her the moment you were put as the mechanic for the Inferno Squadron. Your conversations that you two would have late into the night as you worked on their ships, you both talking about anything and everything. Those moments grew on you and slowly but surely you began to love them and you began to love her. So this moment? This meant everything to you and you sure as hell weren’t about to turn her down.
“I.. I would actually really like that, Iden.” You told her with a smile, watching as a grin grew on her face as she wrapped her arm around your waist and began to walk with you, waving goodbye to Hask and sticking her tongue out at him as you two began to walk to the hangar. You gave a confused look as she made that action and glanced back towards Hask who stormed off in the other direction, shouting at a few troopers to get out of his way. Before you could open your mouth to ask what had just happened, you felt Iden’s breath against your ear as she whispered low into it and you could feel heat heading straight to your core as a shiver ran down your spine.
“You’re mine, (Y/N)... And I don’t share… So don’t go getting any ideas from here on out. That understood?” She spoke low to you and you couldn’t help but bite your lip hard as you gave a small nod to her and responded.
“Of course, Commander Versio.” You told her with a grin appearing on your face. It seemed you had an interesting night ahead of you and you couldn’t be more excited for where it was going to lead.

I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend (I Wanna Kiss Your Lips)
It came to my attention recently that there are no Iden Versio x Reader fics. So here’s my little attempt to rectify that because as cute as she is with Del, sometimes I want this badass lady all to myself.
Fandom: Star Wars, Battlefront II
Character/Pairing: Iden Versio (Imperial) x Reader
Tags/Warnings: Gender Neutral Reader, Swooning, Kissing
Disclaimer: 1) Title is lyrics from the song “i wanna be your girlfriend” by girl in red. 2) I have not read “Battlefront II: Inferno Squad” yet. This is based solely on the campaign of “Star Wars: Battlefront II”
Word Count: 1551
Summary: No one can get you to melt like Iden Versio. Being around her in the presence of others is hard enough but alone? It’s even worse. And then she does something unexpected...
Readable on AO3 here
“Officer!”
You look up to see a black helmet hurtling at you. You gasp and squeeze your eyes shut, your arms instinctually flying up to lessen the blow. There’s a ‘thump’ but no impact and after a moment, you peer around your hands to find the helmet has stopped mere inches from hitting you. Your stomach drops to see that it was caught by none other than Commander Iden Versio, the very woman you’ve been crushing on for months now. She’s glaring in the direction of Agent Hask who pays no notice to what he’s done, quickly stripping off his armor and throwing it on your work table.
“I’ll be back to pick these up later,” he says offhandedly, not even bothering to look in your direction. You reach out and take the helmet from Iden’s hand as you both watch Hask retreat.
“Thank you, Commander,” you murmur, glancing at her.
She gives you a curt nod. “You’re welcome.” Turning away, she walks over to one of your cabinets and pulls out your polishing equipment as Agent Meeko joins you.
Occupying a small room off the ship's armory, you’re part of the uniform and armor division, tasked with making sure the officers are presentable and the troopers are ready for battle. However, your acute attention to detail meant you had been promoted to the status of a specialist, focusing on the uniforms and armor of the elite. And some of those elite are the Inferno Squad.
Troopers almost always polished their own armor, very particular about how it was done. Unfortunately, when you had offered to polish Iden’s armor after a particularly brutal mission where she had broken her arm, Agent Hask had been in earshot and decided it was a generalized, long term offer. Now, every time they returned from a mission, Hask dumped his armor on you to repair and polish, not to be bothered to do it himself. So what had started as trying to do a favor for the woman you liked had turned into an unnecessary chore.
It wasn’t too bad though. Agent Meeko had been around a couple of times when Hask dropped his armor off and began sticking around to polish his armor while you worked on his squadmate’s. You hadn’t realized how lonely your work could be until you befriended Del. It was nice to have someone to talk to. Whether it was venting, joking, or gossiping, you and Del had spent several hours bonding over swapped stories. And then Iden began to join you. Apparently, Del had mentioned you enough times that she was curious to see who he was spending time with.
Now you were almost never alone when tasked with after-mission polishing and repairs. Del was a comforting presence but Iden… she could put your stomach in knots with the mere sound of her voice. She wasn’t much to talk but when she did, you hung onto every word. Her tone deep and rich, sending shivers down your spine. You may have been captured by her attractiveness at first but learning how persistent, brave, and intelligent she was had you swooning even harder.
You were absolutely certain that the entire damn Empire knew about your crush, especially the commander herself (which was mortifying in itself), due to the way you frequently stumbled over your words or blushed vibrant red in her presence. It got even worse when it was just the two of you, and it looked like that’s how today was going to be.
Del is somber as he enters, barely able to meet your eyes; it’s a sure sign that he needs to process the latest mission alone. You give him a gentle smile that he tries to return. He trudges over to where Iden is, grabs a couple of things, and gives a small wave as he too exits.
And so you’re left alone with Iden. You watch as she finishes grabbing equipment. It’s hard to decipher what’s going on in her head; her stoicism made her hard to read but something seems off about her too. You know you aren’t going to get much conversation out of her today.
She settles on the opposite side of your work table and you both begin to work in silence. Awkwardness hangs in the air like a thick smog but you didn’t know what to say without embarrassing yourself. When you’re wiping down the helmet’s visor, Iden sets her own helmet down with a ‘thud’ and looks up at you. Your stomach twists as you meet her piercing gaze. She looks almost... vulnerable... as you take her in up close.
“Can you talk about something? Anything.”
You nod and after a fair bit of stuttering, you decide to tell her how Ensign Roe had completely mixed up an order of rank insignia plaques and now you have the painstaking job of trying to sort it out. And how you need to make Director Krennic a new cape because he insisted he couldn’t go another rotation in a cape that was beginning to fray. After that, you catch her up on the newest gossip circulating, especially the latest scandal where Lieutenant Inji’s two girlfriends had not only found out about each other and dumped him but then started dating each other.
All the while she listens intently; buffing, painting, sealing her armor. Then you tell her how some of the officers thought it would be funny to send a poor new transfer down a garbage chute and you’re seriously considering just launching the uniform out of an airlock if you aren’t able to get the smell out.
She rewards you with a laugh and you beam. By then you’re both finished and Iden doesn’t look as wary as she had before. You simultaneously push back your chairs and begin to pack up the kits in a silence that’s much more comfortable than it was before. It’s a routine you’re both familiar with, taking only a couple moments to clear the table. When a couple bottles remain on the table, you break the quiet air.
“I can handle the rest from here, Commander; why don’t you go rest while you have some time off? I’m sure they’ll be assigning you to a new mission soon enough.” She gives you a half-smile and nods, turning back to her armor. Grabbing the last few polish bottles, you walk over to the cabinets and tuck them into their spots. You hear shuffling behind you and assume Iden’s grabbed her gear and snuck out. But when you turn around, she’s right there, inches away.
You gasp and take a step back, directly into the cabinets. You back presses into cool metal, heart pounding. Before you get a chance to wonder if she’s a threat to you, she takes a slow step into your space and places her hands on either side of your head.
“C-commander?” She leans in close, a smirk playing across her lips. Her eyes are locked with yours until they slowly drift downwards. She tilts her head and it feels like your fantasies are becoming reality as Iden Versio kisses you.
You’re shocked, unable to move as a deep blush sets in. She pulls away, brown eyes gauging your reaction.
“Iden…” you breathe her name and surge forward, capturing her lips with yours.
She hesitates, as if to collect herself, then quickly regains control over you (which you’re more than happy to allow). She moves her hands to grip your waist and pulls your body into hers as your kisses grow in enthusiasm. You grab fistfuls of her flight suit sleeves, trying not to shake under her touch.
You had often wondered what kissing Iden would be like; would she be aggressive or gentle? Every stroke of her tongue erases the word ‘gentle’ from your mind. Forcing her knee between your thighs, you gasp and she takes the opportunity to kiss down your jaw, pulling an involuntary whimper from you.
It’s when she moves her attention to your neck that you hear the steady thump of approaching boots and you tear yourselves apart. She bolts towards her armor and you whip open a cabinet behind you to try and look busy.
Agent Hask walks in, oblivious to what he’s just interrupted.
“These good to go?” He asks, gesturing to his armor. You’re doing your best to hide behind the cabinet door so you’re mostly obscured, quite sure you’re once again completely red in the face.
“Yep, it’s all ready!” You manage to choke out. He raises an eyebrow at your strained response but says nothing as he collects his things and begins to walk away. Stopping in the doorway, he turns back momentarily.
“Oh, Iden; the Admiral wants to do a mission recap with you ASAP.”
“Understood.” She begins to gather her own armor and you’re left watching them leave, still reeling from what just happened. How can she be so composed after that?! You suppose that’s why she’s special forces and you’re not, especially since your legs now feel like they’re made of gelatin.
Before she leaves your sight, Iden looks over her shoulder and flashes you with a smirk, leaving you to wonder what the hell the future is going to hold the next time she pays you a visit...

20 Best Star Wars Books from Canon and Legends
https://ift.tt/38n3sgI
Want to know where to start with Star Wars books? Here are the 20 best adventures across both Legends and the new canon.

tumblr
The Expanded Universe has been a part of Star Wars for almost as long as the movies have, starting with Alan Dean Foster's novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, which was published in 1978 and was originally conceived as a low-budget continuation of A New Hope had the movie flopped. But Foster's Luke and Leia adventure isn't actually the first Star Wars book. Star Wars has existed longer on the page than on the big screen. Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, the official novelization of A New Hope, was published in 1976, six months before the release of the movie (a move that's hard to fathom by today's spoiler culture).
Since the release of the first two Star Wars books, the galaxy far, far away has continued to grow on the page. From the early '90s on, novels that expand the adventures of Luke, Han, Leia, and other heroes and villains have been a staple of Star Wars storytelling and have given us beloved new corners of the galaxy to obsess over. Today, these books and stories remain a great way to learn more about the worlds and characters seen in the movies.
When Disney traded the older Expanded Universe books (now known as the Legends continuity) for a new canon in 2014, it opened up a host of new possibilities. Years later, there are plenty of canon books giving us new ways to experience the Sequel Trilogy and beyond.
With The Rise of Skywalker on the way, concluding the nine-movie Skywalker Saga, it’s a good time to take a look at the book adventures that allows fans to spend more time in the galaxy far, far away. You'll find that there are plenty of books to discover outside of the movies.
Below are our picks of the best Star Wars books—from both the Legends timeline and current canon. The books are listed in alphabetical order. Here's what you should read:

Aftermath
By Chuck Wendig
Aftermath is remarkable for both Chuck Wendig’s all-in writing style and for its place in canon. The beginning of the new canon’s first book trilogy, it follows mostly original characters and a teenage Temmin "Snap" Wexley, the X-Wing pilot played by Greg Grunberg in The Force Awakens. Because it’s the first book in a series, Aftermath has room for cameos from major characters and a wide look at the state of the New Republic after the fall of the Empire.
Information from this series continues to reverberate through later stories, especially ones involving the final defeat of the Emperor's forces and their reorganization into the First Order. While it isn’t the first book to feature Imperial Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, it does establish the fan favorite’s career as a key part of the post-Galactic Civil War galaxy.

Ahsoka
By E.K. Johnston
This standalone novel lands on the list for several reasons. Most simply, Ahsoka Tano is a fan favorite both out in the world and behind the scenes. Originally appearing in The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker's Jedi apprentice, she returned in Star Wars Rebels and has appeared in a multitude of tie-in media.
Ahsoka by E.k. Johnston gives her a lot more interiority than the animated series. It also has a little bit for everybody: Prequel fans will see how Ahsoka feels about losing her friendship with Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Original Trilogy fans will get a look into how she began working with (but not within) the early Rebellion.

Alphabet Squadron
By Alexander Freed
Another ensemble story, Alphabet Squadron focuses around Imperial defector turned X-Wing pilot Yrica Quell. The five pilots who make up "Alphabet" are full of personality, and their often prickly getting-to-know-each-other period is facilitated by an unlikely therapist: a torture droid. IT-O the ex-Imperial droid perfectly encapsulates the book’s mix of ruthless war and wry humor.
This book doesn’t feel like a heroes vs. villains myth like the Original Trilogy did; instead, this is a more muted war story. Its emphasis on the uncertainty and randomness of war doesn’t stop it from also working as a vivid adventure story.

Battlefront: Twilight Company
By Alexander Freed
Even if you haven’t played the Battlefront video games, you might find something to enjoy in Twilight Company, which emphasizes the war in Star Wars. Infantry soldier Namir is used to fighting—he comes from a planet ruled by warring clans—but he sees the Rebellion as just a means to a paycheck.
Namir hovers around the edge of famous events like the Battle of Hoth. If you ever wanted an everyman perspective on the Galactic Civil War, you can get that from Namir and his crew. And along the way, he finds why the Rebellion might be something worth fighting for.

Battlefront II: Inferno Squad
By Christie Golden
While both Battlefront novels are worthwhile reads, Inferno Squad benefits more from the game’s story campaign. Iden Versio will eventually leave the Empire to join the Rebellion after the Battle of Endor, but before that, she’s Imperial through-and-through.
The main strength of this book is the characterization: Iden, Del, and the rest of her squad are endearing and entertaining characters thrown into situations ranging from a firefight to a fancy party. It’s an adventurous book driven by memorable characters — we won’t soon forget the image of the team toasting to the Empire’s health with Alderaanian wine — made all the better by knowing that Iden will eventually up seeing the error of her ways.

Bloodline
By Claudia Gray
In terms of Star Wars books, quality isn't really dictated by how closely they follow or connect to the movies. Many of the most interesting stories are entirely or mostly separate from the movies. However, Bloodline has connection as its main distinction for a few notable reasons: first, it is one of the few books that deal with the Solo family before the Sequel Trilogy and after the Original, and second, it gives Leia the clear-eyed attention which few authors give her. It also shows how the new canon deals with Leia’s relationship to Darth Vader. All of that makes for a compelling story about the political machinations of the New Republic and how they impact the Solo family, including Ben.

Lando’s Luck
By Justina Ireland
Some of the best new canon books cater to middle grade and young adult readers. Lando’s Luck captures the titular character’s voice perfectly, and you'll find yourself laughing out loud at the dialogue between the charming rogue ad his droid co-pilot L3-37.
After being criminally underused in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it's nice to see L3 get a larger part here, as well as a more tonally even relationship with her co-pilot. She and Lando are tasked with helping a young princess return a captured treasure to her planet, a perfectly pulpy plot for Star Wars and especially this duo of adventurers.

Lost Stars
By Claudia Gray
Lost Stars, described as a Romeo and Juliet story in space, it could have been a dull grab at the YA romance market. Instead, it’s a detailed look at some unlikely characters—an Alderaanian who joined the Empire, the wealthy city boy who joins the Rebellion, and the honor-bound pilot who flies a TIE fighter. Protagonists Thane and Ciena are two of the most memorable characters in the new canon, and the conclusion of the novel, which is set during the Battle of Jakku, will leave you breathless.

The Weapon of a Jedi
By Jason Fry
Another stand-out middle grade book, The Weapon of a Jedi is a tightly focused Luke Skywalker adventure that feels like it could be a missing movie or TV show. It’s a relatively simple story — Luke visits an ancient Jedi Temple, meets a friend, and fights a strange alien smuggler while exploring the temple. Hidden within that simplicity is a story that shows Luke’s development and his better understanding of the Force. His characterization as kind and earnest fits him perfectly.

Queen’s Shadow
By E.K. Johnston
Queen’s Shadow looks at Padmé Amidala in a new way, and is a story long overdue. We learn how Padmé and her handmaidens, written as Naboo bodyguards, wear elaborate costumes that hide military-quality defenses and enable them to do their jobs more effectively. The handmaidens are sometimes written as one swirling, ghostly being, moving around Padmé as a unit. At the same time, each character is fleshed out. Padmé herself is treated as both a heroic figure and a tragic one, her death an inevitable shadow as Palpatine’s machinations crush what was left of the Republic.

Legends
Tumblr media
The Thrawn Trilogy: Heir to the Empire
By Timothy Zahn
The Thrawn Trilogy is arguably the most formative series in the Expanded Universe. The first book, Heir to the Empire, was published in 1991 and was marketed as a continuation of the movie saga. Of all of the Legends books, it perhaps captures the feeling of watching a big-screen spectacle the most.
The book features a cinematic storyline that continues the hero trio’s adventures and establishes keystone EU plot elements like Talon Karrde’s network of smugglers and Leia and Han’s marriage. It also introduces Mara Jade, the Force-sensitive woman who used to be the Emperor’s Hand (an elite Imperial assassin) and would later become a powerful Jedi. Even though she’s now working as a smuggler, she finds herself on a collision course with Luke Skywalker, as a shadowy new Imperial commander threatens the New Republic.
Instead of standing out because it does something different with the universe, Timothy Zahn’s trilogy is essential because, for many fans, it felt just like the movies. Grand Admiral Thrawn is also one of the few Legends characters who survived the continuity reset. He not only appears as a major villain in the latter half of Star Wars Rebels but also stars in a new series of novels written by Zahn.

Jedi Apprentice
By Jude Watson and Dave Wolverton
We're cheating a little here since we're recommending an entire series of 18 books here, but you should read them all! Like the X-Wing series, the Jedi Apprentice series is a classic that established the tone and format for an entire era of stories. Another similarity: the author who wrote the first book isn’t the person behind the best-known parts of the series.
Jude Watson wrote all but one of the Jedi Apprentice books, in which Obi-Wan Kenobi narrowly earns his place in the Jedi Temple, tangles with Qui-Gon’s former Padawan, and makes friends across the galaxy. It’s a look inside the life of a Jedi, and it was the starting point for many a fanfic. Young Obi-Wan is an easy-to-like, kind, and compassionate person who just wants to do his best, even if it means clashing with his master.

Tumblr media
Kenobi
By John Jackson Miller
Another character study, Kenobi stands out for when in the timeline it's set, fleshing out the story of what happened in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life between the fall of the Jedi and the start of their return. The book delves a bit into Obi-Wan’s mental state shortly after his flight from Order 66, but most of it concentrates on his day-to-day life and trying to solve local problems.
It’s a tightly plotted and compassionately characterized story that sometimes feels restricted, but hey, that’s what life on Tatooine is like. Best of all, the side characters feel like real, sun-burnt denizens of Tatooine, both humans and Tusken Raiders alike. A good read if you're looking forward to the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series coming to Disney+.

Republic Commando: Hard Contact
By Karen Traviss
While the Original Trilogy era books are most often cited as good places to start, fans of Jedi and clone troopers have plenty of options in the Prequel era, too. The Republic Commando series fostered a fandom as passionate as any other within the community.
Ostensibly a video game tie-in novel, it was the start of Karen Traviss’ long-term development of Mandalorian culture as followed by the clone troopers. The novel follows a team of elite clone commandos and one young Jedi Padawan as they try to stop a Separatist bio-weapon.

Revenge of the Sith
By Matthew Stover
Star Wars novelizations haven't often set a very high bar. While some extra scenes or characters’ internal thoughts might add a little to what you watched on the big screen, these books aren’t usually a source of great prose or characterization. Therefore, it’s exceptionally remarkable that Matthew Stover saw that bar and decided to reach for orbit.
Metaphor, added scenes, and poetic, energetic prose make Revenge of the Sith an entirely different experience in book form. Anakin Skywalker’s struggles with the “dragon” of the dark side and the gradual, terrible collapse of his friendship with Obi-Wan Kenobi might be the best character-centric writing in the saga.
Buy Revenge of the Sith
Tumblr media
Scoundrels
By Timothy Zahn
Timothy Zahn’s last non-Thrawn Star Wars book is one of his best. A standalone story about Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and the titular group of scoundrels, this novel is Ocean’s Eleven in Star Wars. One of the best elements of this book is the twist ending, which of course I won’t spoil here. Scoundrels is pure fun, with lots of chemistry between the team members and memorable moments.
Buy Scoundrels
Tumblr media
Shadows of the Empire
By Steve Perry
Shadows of the Empire wasn't just a novel. The novel was one part of a tie-in extravaganza that also included a video game, a soundtrack, and more about the Original Trilogy heroes fighting Darth Vader and his criminal lackey, Prince Xizor. Shadows contains some uncomfortable scenes—Xizor’s secret weapon is that his species gives off seductive pheromones, and Leia spends a good deal of the book kidnapped—but it does fill in the gaps between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
The book is also formative because of the debut of Dash Rendar, an EU character if there ever was one. Shadows is perhaps the least essential book on this list, but if you’re new to the EU, it might help you know what exactly fans are talking about when they (jokingly or seriously) refer to “the Bantam era.”
Buy Shadows of the Empire

The New Jedi Order: Traitor
By Matthew Stover
The question of whether Traitor works as a standalone novel is a complicated one. It’s part of the divisive 19-book New Jedi Order series, so there are certainly a lot of plot points that lead up to it. There are also a lot of questions posed in this book that the series can’t completely answer: Does the Force truly have a light side and a dark side? What does it really mean to be a Jedi? Traitor shows Jacen Solo’s descent into the underworld, a deep dive into the morality of the Force. Like the Revenge of the Sith novelization (written by the same author), the writing is darkly beautiful.
Buy Traitor

X-Wing: Rogue Squadron
By Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allson
The X-Wing series by Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston is another staple in Expanded Universe fandom. While the series doesn't reach its heights of humor and cheer until Allston’s books later in the series, the first book is the easiest to recommend. Fan favorite pilot Wedge Antilles has flown against the first Death Star and destroyed the second one. Now, he needs to put together a new squadron to hold the New Republic military together while they try to conquer the Imperial capital. Known for its charming characters and exciting descriptions of starfighter battles, Rogue Squadron is a classic. And if you love this one, you really should read the rest of the series!
Buy X-Wing: Rogue Squadron

Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
By Sean Stewart
Despite the format of its title, this is a standalone novel. It’s another one that asks big questions: what does it mean to be a Jedi when you aren’t very good at the Force? What philosophy is behind Count Dooku’s split from the Jedi Order and his desire to leave his friend Yoda behind? With some surprisingly Gothic influences and unconventional Jedi characters, Dark Rendezvous is an unusual book that's worth a read.

“And still, I survive.” – iden
"Yeah, alright. Don't have to be so touchy about it." Zeb rolled their shoulders in an irritated shrug. "All I'm saying's I don't think it'd be a bad idea for you ex-Imperial types to have somebody to talk to about that kind of thing every once in a while. Think it'd be good for Kallus. Didn't mean anything by it."

WAKING UP / / starter for @versios
a gasp for breath broke through his lips followed by a small cough as he tried to catch his breath. his head swam and he felt as though cold had seeped into his bones. the stone under him was unforgiving to his body and he shivered while trying to calm down his breathing. looing around with both his eyes as he blinked them clear while also pushing his awareness further with the force anakin knew... he was alone.
staggering to his feet and needing to lean against the wall, looking to the windows he saw he was still on mustafar. but inside a building where the glass gleamed while keeping the heat from the molton lava outside the clear barrier. the walls made of durasteel. a cold environment on top of a molton planet. had one of the separatists managed to take him out without his knowledge? no. he’d killed them all. he’d counted the bodies as he’d pushed the planets droids to get rid of them.
his stride was like looked as though he’d been drinking far too much but he’d made it over to a bank of shelves filled with holopads. anakin flopped his body onto the nearby couch and tried to collect himself as he grabbed the one on the table to the side of him. oddly enough it wasn’t locked but... it contained horror after horror after horror. Darth Vader. Padme. Empire. Ahsoka. Torture. Obi-Wan.
so many horrific things done by his hand and all for him to end up totally alone in the galaxy or so it seemed for now. he’d lost everything. what would he have left to give? he’d died. and yet here he was. young again and not in that blasted suit for whatever reason he’d needed it. grabbing a second holopad he’d opened it up to find something else. luke skywalker. someone carried on his name that his mother had chosen for the two of them. was this some descendant of beru & owen? the one who killed vader? anakins yellow eyes flicked back and forth as he absorbed whatever data he could.
throwing the pads to the side he heard one of them cracked and felt a slight regret but at the same time pain filled his chest. all of the things he’d done had been for nothing. she’d died and palpatine had been fucking useless in the end. he should have known! rarely did a master measure up or not lie forever. maybe palpatine had a grain of truth though somewhere. the dark side grew within him once more as he strode through the fortress he needed to explore his surroundings. gain all the knowledge he could before he made another move.
anakin spotted something in the next floor up over looking a waterfall of lava. a huge egg shaped room that split halfway through. some kind of chamber? the gleam of a durasteel bench next to what looked like extra pieces of armor. a hilt of gleaming silver and black. he reached out and it smacked into his hand, the ignition went off with ease and a red saber lit the room joining the red from the lava outside.

Every Character in Battlefront 2 with only one appearance option, and ideas to fill the void
This!! Really!!! Bugs me!!!! Especially when Han Solo has six and even Dooku and Grievous both have three while other majorly popular characters only have their default appearances.
Boba Fett
Helmetless (you already have Temuera Morrison’s face in the game, come on!)
Prototype Boba Fett
Bossk
... Okay, maybe I didn’t actually think this one through.
Bossk in a helmet?
Bossk in some more casual trandoshan attire
Darth Vader
Battle damage (Rebels-style shear through the face mask)
Maskless (end of RotJ)
McQuarrie/Rebels-style (sleeker look)
Emperor Palpatine
(And your pal, friendpatine)
Chancellor Palpatine (finer robes, skin not so fucked up)
Uhhhhh that’s all I got for this one
Darth Maul
Robo-legs?? Hello?? Is this thing on?? (Just add robot legs and you’ve got his Solo look!)
Rebels-style Daddy Maul (I’m sorry for phrasing it this way but you know what I mean)
Clone Wars-style shirtless chicken-legs Maul
Clone Wars-style fancy-legs Mandalore Maul
I don’t actually want all of these but like. There are options. They do exist.
Finn
Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my GOD. COME ON!
FN-2187 (blood streak down helmet)
Officer disguise
Rise of Skywalker appearance (which I desperately hope is coming in a future update, so long as they don’t abandon the game, but since it’s gotten some pretty huge recent updates I doubt it would)
Captain Phasma
TLJ battle damage
Brienne of Darth (or you could just call this one “helmetless Phasma, but I like my name better)
And then there are characters with like two or three appearance options who could easily have more.
Luke Skywalker: Rebel pilot, RotJ (with the white patch showing), TLJ Ahch-To, TLJ Crait, Tatooine farmhand, ESB digs (Dagobah/Cloud City), poncho, stormtrooper disguise, come on, this guy’s the holy grail of missing skins!!!!
Anakin Skywalker: His Clone Wars armor, maybe? Like, you know, the ones Obi-Wan has in the game but Anakin mysteriously doesn’t?
General Grievous: Okay I know he has three but all of them are various levels of battle damage and I want his cloak
Chewbacca: C-3PO backpack
Iden Versio and Yoda both have only two appearances as well that are super bland but to be fair I can’t... really... think of anything for either of them. Yoda’s is an ugly stupid hood which is really fufcking asd;ffunny to me (the EARHOLES! THE EARHOLES!!!) and Iden’s only got a helmeted and helmetless version, and while she has her Rebel gear in the main game, she’s strictly a villain in multiplayer and it would make no sense for her to run around with Rebel gear on)
Anyway. That’s my aimless rant. It’s just ridiculous to me that they launched Dooku with THREE DIFFERENT APPEARANCES, one of which was his fucking PAJAMAS from The Clone Wars, but Finn still has one skin!! Han has 6, and Leia and Lando both have 5, but Luke still has TWO!!!!! What’s happening!!!!!!

Okay give me a battlefront II and hogwarts AU!
Tumblr media
nor i love you. okay so *cracks knuckles*
@bitchycornish
at hogwarts -
Iden Versio is a pureblood slytherin, daughter of the Very Important And Distant father Garrick Versio
her mother was british but lived in america after graduating from hogwarts, where Zeehay and Garrick met each other and got married. they lived in america until they got a divorce when she was five (zeehay claimed garrick only cared about his work and she was kinda (absolutely) right)
Gideon Hask is also a pureblood slytherin, and Gideon and Iden met on the train their first year on the way to hogwarts and became fast friends
Del Meeko is a pureblood hufflepuff, daughter of the Less Important Less Prejudiced But Still Prejudiced Meeko family and lived in London for his entire life
he’s a pretty friendly dude and likes fixing things and making friends with the house elves than debates about blood prejudice (that isn’t to say he’s not prejudiced bc he is. he’s been indoctrinated with it his entire life)
i don’t know that much about Seyn Marana but she’s definitely a pureblood ravenclaw (twenty-seven fudging languages???? the fuck???)
Shriv Suurgav is a muggle born gryffindor and sarcasm and snark became his go-to defense for ignorance of magical knowledge
The first time Iden got detention, her father came to the school personally to berate her
since that, Iden has thrown herself at both academics and Quidditch, excelling at both she and gideon are the beaters and have held that position since third year
in fifth year she taught herself how to fight muggle-style because she liked the way it felt
her status as Pureblood Slytherin has gotten her some flack from lots of kids no matter blood status from other houses
there’s also rumors going around about Iden and Gideon, but they’re all lies. Iden and Gideon are just good pals (gideon is like the brother she never had)
Gideon was a lot more vocal about blood status issues and muggles than iden, and has gotten into more fights than iden, only because iden can’t risk getting detention again
Del Meeko is a pretty laid back guy, and doesn’t really bring up blood status stuff or muggles because of the amount of half-bloods and muggleborns in hufflepuff
He’s the seeker for hufflepuff
Slytherins and Hufflepuffs share DADA which is taught by Slytherin Head Gleb no one knows her first name
Everyone is surprised when quiet Del Meeko steps up to demonstrate a Reducto and, well, nobody ever underestimates him again
Iden, Gideon, and Del are the top three students
Del tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for Iden to finish talking to her friend after DADA. She finished talking with a laugh and a wave, and turned, loosening her tie as she did.
“Iden!” he called, catching up to her. “Iden.”
He fell into step next to her, and reached for her arm.
“I have to tell you something important.”
Iden jerked her arm out of his grip and glared at him.
“Really. Then why don’t you spit it out?” she said, less of a question and more a command.
Del glanced down the hall, the shoved her into an empty classroom.
“What the hell, Meeko?” she demanded, crossing her arms. She was just a tiny bit shorter than him, but she could command a room without even trying.
“Today, after potions. Some Gryffindors are going to corner you on the way to Herbology,” he told her in a rushed whisper. “I overheard them on the way into breakfast. You have to go a different way.”
Iden looked at him like he was crazy.
“How many ways do you think there is to Herbology from the dungeons?”
“I dunno, Iden, but you have to go a different way!” His hands landed on her shoulder as he spoke, but Iden shrugged him off.
“I can take care of myself. Those boys don’t scare me,” she retorted, and tried to move past him, but Del jumped in her way.
“Well they should. Gryffindor’s beaters are with them, and a few big boys, all sevenths.”
Iden scoffed.
“I’m a seventh. I care take care of myself, they clearly don’t know who they’re messing with.”
She brushed past him again, and Del let her by. She was halfway down the hall when he called after her,
“They know exactly who they’re messing with, Iden!”
Iden stopped, chomping the inside of her cheek, restraining her temper. Finally she turned, and Del was still standing outside the classroom.
“Well, that’s their mistake!”
Del grabbed Gideon Hask’s sleeve as the flood of students exited the Potions classroom. Iden had left almost immediately, with a defiant glance towards Del, like, ha, so there.
Hask shook him off at once and turned to look at him.
“Meeko,” he greeted, relaxing slightly. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“It’s Iden, she’s in trouble!” Del said, rushed.
Hask frowned.
“Explain.”
In short words, Del told Hask exactly what the Gryffindor boys had said, Iden’s refusal to change, and the very real possibility that at this moment, Iden was walking into big trouble.
But Hask only shook his head.
“I’m sure they were exaggerating. Besides, Iden is a Versio. Those boys will be in very big trouble if they attack her.”
Del practically gaped at Hask, then shook his head and propped his fists on his hips.
“So you’re not going to help your friend?” he demanded. Hask shrugged, unconcerned.
“Iden can take care of herself.”
Del groaned, unbelievable Slytherins, and their unbelievable self-assurance, what was in their drinks?
“Fine. I’m going to help.”
Del raced down the corridors of the ancient school, slipping around corners,  his wand ready in his hand. He slide to a stop at the top of a staircase, and watched in horror as Iden’s wand was knocked out of her hand. Her knuckles were bloody like she had tried to fight them off with her hands, and one eye was swollen shut as she sagged against the wall.
In a surge of white-hot anger, Del threw spells down the hallway with surprising accuracy, knocking three of the five boys back several feet, flinging the fourth boy into the air by his pants, and saving the last boy for a more personal attack. With an expelliarmus! he disarmed the boy, and punched him in the nose, breaking it with a crunch.
“Iden!”
“Del,” she groaned, as he pulled her up. “I should have listened to you.”
Del gave a barked a laugh as he hauled her to the hospital wing.
(It is safe to say that that evening, those five boys nearly got expelled, when Garrick Veriso himself showed up at the school. In the end, they got detention for the rest of the year, and no one ever messed with Iden Versio again. Not in the school, that is.)
(nope still not done) Post- Hogwarts -
Iden Versio and Gideon Hask got jobs immediately as Aurors upon graduation
Del Meeko did not, but later when war broke out, he was recruited with Seyn Marana to form an elite strike team with Iden Versio and Gideon Hask
Seyn died on their first official mission that actually was drawn out for several weeks
Iden, Gideon, and Del did not replace her, but worked together still
After finding out that the death eaters were destroying a muggle\magical community, and not saving the wizards, Iden and Del saved the people, but in doing so, they committed treason to the cause.
They joined the wizards fighting against the death eaters and purebloods, and helped save, basically, all of Great Britain
they created a new inferno squad, as they were called, with Shriv Suurgav, and muggleborn Gryffindor, and they became good friends
Iden and Del ended up getting married and lived a quiet life, and had a daughter, who went to Hogwarts and joined Gryffindor house, though she could have easily gone in slytherin
 Thank you, again, for asking
