In Astoria the possibilities were endless. They could walk around and see people who were way more comfortable in their skin than Sahid had ever been. They had spend the first twenty-five years of their life never telling a single person about who they felt they were, just being who others said they should be. They still felt like hiding, but the first thing Sahid had done after landing - aside from sleeping - was dream about boys. 

The next two months, they tried out flirting with so many men that they were constantly going heart eyed. Getting crushes had been something that wasn’t new to Sahid, but in Wheeler they had constantly pushed those feelings away. Knowing they couldn’t acknowledge them. Now they just walked up to every single person they felt attracted too and gave it a go. 

They had see Mateo around several times, and he was handsome, seemed to work everywhere, and his smile just made Sahid’s heart speed up. They felt rather jealous of the lady in front of them who the smile was reserved for, then moved down the line when it was their turn, watching Mateo move away and someone else taking their order instead. It seemed that he was on a break though, so Sahid went against all their own awkwardness and gestured at the empty chair. “Can I join you?”
