While returning from an operational mission, the “rapid rabbits” luck finally ran out. Unfortunately, when Denny Bush and Jimmy Fagg approached, Kadena's excessive crosswinds impaired their landing conditions. Unhappy with the first touchdown, Denny jettisoned the shoot, pushed up the power, and took it around for another landing approach; the crosswinds were so strong that he was unable to keep the SR 71 on the runway, one of the leading wheels struck a concrete structure, severely damaging the landing gear, causing substantial additional damage to the airplane. Both crewmen climbed out unscathed, but the 978 was written off.

To eradicate the airplane, they decided to burn it, not realizing it wasn’t easy to destroy titanium. Burning the SR 71 did not work. The next step was transporting it back on a C5 galaxy to Norton Air Force Base California as spare parts for other SR 71s.

A personal funny note: when I was around 14 or 15, I went on the flight line with my mother to meet my father coming back from OL. I saw the SR-71 with the Playboy Bunny logo on it. Remember, I’m a teenager. I thought, who will tell the grown-ups that that is a Playboy sign? I assume that they were clueless because they wouldn’t have put it on this airplane if they knew what it stood for. I had a minimal idea as a fellow Habubrat had shown me a Playboy magazine when I visited her house. I was scandalized.🤣

i dont get the deal with ppl sending you anon hate... i for one really enjoy your artwork, its close to my heart as someone who grew up poor in the midwest. a lot of your subject matter is really familiar im a bittersweet way to me. you take mundane things and make them into powerful, arresting images. please keep it up :) & if you don't mind me asking, what cameras do you use for your photography?

thank you :') thats the exact feeling i have thats what im going for !! im just trying to capture the way Things and Places make me feel its not really supposed to be extravagant or as good as all the other artists i like or am mutuals with its just . for me but i like to share things that make me happy . and it makes other people happy too bc we relate ! its not actually Important really but it is important To Me ! its just us all relating everyone wants to break it down to like aesthetics and #cores but its just things its just me . its not always gonna b perfect or aesthetic bc its just my silly little pictures . but u really get it😭💗 ily

the film camera i use is a minolta maxxum 330si rz 35mm , and besides that i use one of two android phones (my old phone and the one i have now, cant remember the model of my old one but my new one is a galaxy note8!) or stratus c5 cloud mobile which is a really cheap smartphone i got as part of govt assistance that takes very like webcam quality pics it works well w some things i like it
