≫ permanent plotter call

Basically, if you want a “’ships call”, here it is. Like this post if you wish to plan something for both our characters, I will IM you as soon as I find the time to! The cut below leads to a brief background of Gil’s appearance in the game, as well as his overall personality, how he approaches friendships and how I perceive that he will be in relationships.

!! (BEWARE, SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T PLAYED GOD EATER 2!) !!

BACKGROUND

Gilbert has little to no detail on his family history, however, it is known that he is Scottish, and originally joined Fenrir’s Glasgow Branch. His main plot point is the fact that he had to kill his superior, Kate Lawry, who is also his best friend’s (Haruomi Makabe) girlfriend. This wasn’t something he wanted to do, however. Kate was injured and thus was at risk of being turned into an Aragami. He then transferred to Friar, where he brought his reputation as Fragging Gil, but soon got to learn that making friends wasn’t something that hard, and that if he wanted to, he could protect those he cares for.

PERSONALITY

Gil first comes off as a lone wolf, but he’s actually a mother hen. Gil has a thing for drinking, regardless of whether or not it is tea or alcohol, and enjoys relaxing while drinking with a good company. (either with Haruomi or the captain, sometimes with his teammates) Gilbert is more of a melee fighter, this is mostly due to the fact that he was originally a 1st-Generation God Eater, and only prior to joining Friar that he found he was compatible with the New-type bias factor. Gilbert is also fond of tuning God Arcs, making him a budding engineer.

FRIENDSHIPS 

Because he first comes off as a lone wolf, he now tries his best to atone for his lack of tactness/friendliness, although awkward. He tries to approach others, although there are days when this is difficult. Regardless, for all of his friends, he extends relentless protection and concern. Gilbert would be especially fond of a friend who would teach him engineering ways, and methods to invent weapons as well as fine-tune them.

RELATIONSHIPS

I personally see Gilbert as either pansexual or asexual. While others may not think that he showed much interest in his superior, I feel like there was a definite attraction towards her during the cutscenes I have seen him with her and Haruomi, mostly due to Haruomi’s comment, saying not to flirt with his girlfriend, although Gil isn’t necessarily romantic himself, he is gentle and typically a company who finds comfort in silence. He isn’t afraid to show his appreciation for a person, such as going as far as to tell his captain that he is mad for their recklessness, as well as be willing to support them throughout the story. Due to my headcanon regarding his interest towards Kate, I also imagine that he has a fondness for brunettes who are outgoing and friendly, and are easily attracted to them. However, I don’t see myself limiting his attraction to these characters! These are just headcanons after all. I am open to shipping Gilbert with any characters of any genders, for as long as there are chemistry in our writing together! Yes, I am open to trying out writing with you to see if we can ship them, and similarly, if Gil perceives someone as attractive it does not mean that I am trying to push that ship on you.

          SOFT as she may be towards the humans at the zoo, that’s the only sentiment that she has towards them- they carry emotional value due to their attachment with Pink Diamond. So as a result, there’s little care towards the humans in the city, her duties as a Diamond far outnumbering the pity that she carries. But unlike PINK, Blue has little to no knowledge about humans and is at a disadvantage in comparison to the rest of the court.

          This is a starter call for those who can either INFORM her on the events in the city much like Holly Blue or her Pearl, and fellow VILLAINOUS figures who would be interested in working with her with the promise of Homeworld’s alliance.

MANILA – It will be up to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) to determine whether to appeal a ruling by the Court of Appeals (CA) that favored former senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

The CA set aside the order issued by the Makati Regional Trial (RTC) Court Branch 150 reviving the rebellion case against the coup plotter turned lawmaker due to technicalities.

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the Solicitor General, as counsel for the government, will determine the next legal remedy.

“It may include a motion for reconsideration with the Court of Appeals or a petition for review with the Supreme Court," Guevarra said.

"The DOJ's failure to follow procedural rules in assailing the validity of the order merits the denial of its omnibus motion," the CA ruled.

The CA's Sixth Division granted Trillanes’ petition for certiorari, challenging the Makati court’s orders dated Sept. 25, 2018 that granted the government’s plea for an arrest warrant and reviving the rebellion case against Trillanes for his role in the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

In a 59-page decision by Associate Justice Apolinario Bruselas Jr., Trillanes’ petition was granted to quash the order issued by Makati RTC Branch 150 presiding judge Elmo Alameda.

Alameda upheld the legality of President Duterte’s Proclamation No. 572 which revoked the grant of amnesty to Trillanes by former President Benigno Aquino III. He also granted the DOJ's motion for the reopening of the rebellion case, issuance of an arrest warrant, and a hold departure order against the senator.

The trial court then junked Trillanes’ motion for reconsideration on Dec. 18, 2018.

In both orders, the trial court said that Trillanes failed to comply with the minimum requirements to be entitled to amnesty under Proclamation No. 75, issued by Mr. Aquino. It held that the senator failed to prove that he actually applied to be granted amnesty and that he expressly admitted his guilt to the crimes committed pertaining to the Manila Peninsula takeover.

Since the amnesty granted to the petitioner was revoked through Proclamation 572 due to non-compliance with the requirements, the Makati RTC court held that its dismissal of the rebellion case on September 7, 2011 was a void order.

But while the CA affirmed the constitutionality of Proclamation 572, it pointed out that the DOJ failed to comply with the procedural rules in assailing the validity of the Makati RTC’s dismissal order.

“In the criminal case subject of herein petition, the prosecution did not file an action for the annulment of or for relief from the Order of September 7, 2011, nor did it move for the issuance of a writ of certiorari to invalidate the said order. The alleged void order, which dismissed the rebellion charge was attacked only through the Omnibus Motion filed in the same case, which prayed for the issuance of a warrant of arrest and hold departure order against the petitioner,” the CA explained.

“The attack, therefore, was merely a collateral one. Tested against the outlined procedural standards above, the remedy resorted to by the DOJ cannot be anything else but irregular and improper. The respondent court gravely abused its discretion when it took cognizance of DOJ's Omnibus Motion, set aside its order of September 7, 2011, and revived the criminal action against the petitioner,” the decision read further.

The CA pointed out that unlike Makati RTC Branch 148 which conducted a full evidentiary hearing on the motion by the DOJ to reopen the coup d’ etat case against Trillanes by virtue of Proclamation 572, Alameda merely conducted a summary hearing through affidavits and documents.

“The court inquiry cannot be merely summary and cursory, but one that shall give the parties ample opportunity to be heard on their respective evidence,” the CA added.

Alameda ruled that Trillanes failed to present the original hard copy, a duplicate copy, or even a photocopy to substantiate his claim that he personally accomplished and filed his official amnesty application form.

The trial court said with Trillanes’ amnesty being declared void ab initio (invalid from the outset), it has regained jurisdiction to hear and resolve the case despite its dismissal in 2011.

The CA however ruled that the Makati RTC has lost its jurisdiction over the case as it acted with grave abuse of discretion when it failed to hear testimonial evidence or conduct an in-depth inquiry on the DOJ’s motion.

“The court inquiry cannot be merely summary and cursory, but one that shall give the parties ample opportunity to be heard on their respective evidence,” the CA noted.

“The respondent court committed grave abuse of discretion when, without taking ample time to pause and ponder, whether or not it retained jurisdiction, summarily and cursorily considered the Omnibus Motion upon a matter involving a criminal action that it has long-ago dismissed,” it added.

Trillanes, then a Navy officer, and other members of the so-called Magdalo group were also charged with coup d'etat before the Makati RTC for the 2003 Oakwood Hotel mutiny. (PNA)

Senate Unanimously Passes Historic Coronavirus Relief Package

The Senate passed a substantial emergency relief bill on Wednesday night that would provide aid to small businesses, hospitals, and Americans suffering from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Senate passed H.R. 748, the CARES Act, with 96 votes in favor of the bill and no senators opposed to the legislation.

The legislation featured unanimous support from Republicans and Democrats. The legislation required 60 votes to pass through the Senate.

The Senate coronavirus package costs roughly $2 trillion and is approximately 880-pages long.

The Senate shot down an amendment to the bill sponsored by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), which would reverse the bill’s generous unemployment benefits. Sens. Sasse, Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Rick Scott (R-FL) contended that the legislation would incentivize Americans not to work. The amendment required 60 votes to pass through the chamber. Sasse’s amendment was shot down with 48 votes in favor and 48 against the measure.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin rebuffed the Republican senators’ concerns over the bill, contending this will help those who involuntarily lost their jobs.

“I don’t think it will create incentives. Most Americans, what they want, they want to keep their jobs,” Mnuchin said.

“We need to get this money into the American economy and American workers, that’s the importance of this,” he added.

The Senate Cares Act would provide most Americans $1,200 per individual, $500 for most children, and establish a several hundred billion dollar lending aid program for businesses, cities and states, as well as aid for small businesses.

The bill also omits many Democrat requests such as mandatory early voting, ballot harvesting, requirements that federal agencies analyze their use of “minority banks,” and provisions to curb airline emissions.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said on the Senate floor before the vote that the chamber “will stay nimble” to combat the coronavirus. He added that there would be no more votes in the Senate until April 20.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) said in a statement after the bill passed through the Senate:

As this COVID-19 pandemic has evolved, I’ve continued to listen to Iowans from all sectors of our economy, and there has been one resounding message: we need relief, and we need it now. After heeding these calls, I pushed my colleagues to take swift, bold action to deliver immediate aid to folks in Iowa, and across the country. And thankfully, we’ve done that. From Phase 1, where we bolstered our state and local response efforts; to Phase 2 where we provided paid sick leave and free testing; and now, to Phase 3 where we’ve come to the aid of America’s workforce and those in our health care industry on the front lines of this pandemic.

“Now, the House must do their job, pass this bipartisan bill quickly, and get it to President Trump’s desk. We don’t have time for delay; Iowans need this aid right now,” she added.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said after CARES Act passed:

Communities across Florida and our nation are reeling from this unprecedented crisis, and today the Senate acted on an unprecedented response to provide relief to Americans, small businesses, and our economy. Our bipartisan small business package, which was included, will provide emergency relief so that millions of American workers can keep their jobs and millions of small businesses can stay open. As our nation works to contain the spread of the coronavirus, I remain in close contact with the Trump Administration and Governor DeSantis to ensure that Florida has the resources it needs during this public health crisis.

“The Coronavirus epidemic has damaged our physical and our economic health. This bill supports the economic health of individuals, families ,and employers. It also advances the fight to make us safe from the disease,” said Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

The Senate appeared poised over the weekend to pass the legislation; however, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) left the negotiating table at the last minute to craft her own legislation.

After many days of negotiation with Senate Republicans and the White House, Pelosi agreed to support the Senate proposal.

Now that the bill has passed through the Senate, the House will take up the bill on Friday.

McConnell delivered an impassioned speech before the vote on the Senate floor on Wednesday about how the nation will defeat the coronavirus.

“Today, the Senate will act to help the people of this country weather this storm,” McConnell said. “Our nation needed us to go big and go fast, and they did.”

Term 3 CAS Reflections

Creativity:

MOOC CCA - This term I joined the MOOC CCA which is a extracurricular activity in which I would sit down and work on an online course. This is my first time undergoing an online course and so I was left with a lot of anticipation and excitement before I began. 

My first step was to navigate through courses and find something interesting and new. It was difficult to find an ideal course to do, something that interested me while fitting into my career path. What I ended up deciding on was a course in Clinical Research Analysis. Clinical research is essential, as it allows you to understand new ideas and theories and could very well aid in breakthroughs in medical science.

The course taught me quite a bit about statistics and the true nature of undertaking clinical research. It gave me interesting ideas about what I want to do in the future and has really facilitated my decision to apply for medicine. The skill of clinical research analysis is one that is essential for a doctor as they need to be able to understand research in order to make the best possible informed decision.

Even so the IB has trained me to be an inquirer and clinical research really begs the question of reliability as sample sizes can often be small or data could even horrifyingly be faked, as was in the case of Andrew Wakefield who was accused of faking his data in order to link vaccine use to the development fo autism. I hope in the future, tragedies like this movement can be avoided and experiments are repeated in order to test for full reliability.

Activity:

Personal Fitness - This term was once again another exciting term for my own personal fitness.

This term was filled with many more exploits, with my own personal development. 

Unfortunately, this term had a big particular downside. It was Ramadan and due to personal religious reasons I was unable to participate in rigorous physical activities as I was fasting. 

Afterwards, I quickly did my best to build up lost muscle and regrow. At home I began participating in fitness challenges as well, such as a 5 minute ab challenge in while I would do 30 second intervals of different planking positions in order to activate my abdominal muscles. I originally thought it would be quite short and simple as I do crunches regularly as part of my workout and with weights while I’m in the gym, however even still I struggled somewhat at first. As part of the former team, I worked in order to first cut down the end of some wooden rods to a point. This way these rods could be driven into the ground to act as marking poles. Then with the remainder of the plotting group, we checked the map and appropriate gridlines to ensure that every single pole was in its correct place, while replacing all missing poles in the jungle.

Making a Difference: Cambodia - This term I continued working with Cambodia project. There were much fewer days however due to an unfortunate erratic schedule in our host nation’s holidays taking away Mondays.

Furthermore, many were busy planning a trip I would not be attending and thus I was quite alone in my role taking care of future fundraising. Furthermore, the Year 11s were ending the school year very early and would not be able to help us.

On this day in 1981, 200 members of Spain’s Guardia Civil let by Lt. Col. Antonio Tejero stormed into the Spanish Congress of Deputies in Madrid and took as hostage all of the legislators inside. The Spanish Civil War raged from 1936-1939 and was fought by the elected Republican government in Madrid--which espoused Communism--and a coalition of conservative--and virulently anti-communist--monarchists, which included large swathes of the military. Gradually Francisco Franco, a senior general in the Spanish Army, came to lead this side. Franco’s prowess as both tactical commander and overall military strategist led to the capture of Madrid and the fall of the Republican government in 1939.

Franco installed himself as the new leader of Spain. He referred to himself as the regent of the exiled Spanish royal family, but in reality he was an authoritarian dictator. Franco, known as El Caudillo, ruled Spain with an iron fist for 36 years. In his later years, with his health failing, Franco invited back the Spanish royal family and began grooming Juan Carlos, the grandson of Spain’s last king Alfonso XIII, to become head of state after Franco’s death, thus restoring the monarchy to power. Upon the death of Franco on November 20, 1975--an event which almost immediately became part of American pop culture thanks to Saturday Night Live--Juan Carlos was duly recognized as the next legitimate head of state of Spain. But there was an open question of whether Spain would embrace a more democratic form of government. Many former supporters of Franco--almost invariably consisting of the majority of the nation’s conservative, aristocratic elite--were fearful of a return to the radical politics of the First Spanish Republic in the 1930s. The sons of many of these families occupied many senior positions in the government and, especially, the military.

In 1978, a new Spanish Constitution was ratified. During the process of ratification, the transitional government decided to recognize the Spanish Communist Party, which had been made illegal under the regime of Francisco Franco. This appalled conservatives who saw their worst fears being realized. In November 1978, while Juan Carlos was away in South America, a coup called Operation Galaxia--named for the cafe in which the plotters met the week before--was discovered and suppressed. One of Galaxia’s planners was Antonio Tejero. After a court martial in 1980, Tejero was sentenced to seven months in prison, but was not stripped of his rank nor his role with the Guardia Civil.

Almost immediately after his release from prison, Tejero began a new plot. The Spanish economy was ailing under 16% inflation and poor growth and a 20% unemployment rate. Members of the Basque terrorist group ETA increased their attacks on Spain’s civil population. The government of Adolfo Suarez was forced to resign after a vote of no-confidence in the Congress of Deputies at the end of January 1981. The myriad of political parties in parliament began the process of nominating candidates to replace Suarez as Prime Minister. A vote was scheduled in the Congress of Deputies for February 23.

The vote began on the evening of the 23rd at 6:00pm. At 6:23pm, as Socialist deputy Manuel Núñez Encabo was rising to cast his vote, Tejereo and 200 members of the Guardia Civil burst into the chamber and rushed to the Speaker’s platform where he yelled out “Hold it everybody!” and ordered all Deputies to the floor. Deputy Prime Minister Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado , who also happened to be an army general and the senior military officer present, angrily ordered Tejero to hand over his weapon and stand down. Tejero refused and the tense standoff was defused by another officer of the Guardia who intervened and calmed both men down. Another officer then made an announcement from the Speaker’s chair that no one would be leaving the chamber until a “competent military authority” arrived.

The vote for a new government was being covered by all major news organizations. Cameras in the chamber recorded the first hour of the incident as it occurred and microphones in the chamber were kept open in order to record everything that was being said. All of Spain watched in tension, wondering what would occur. Would the military side with Tejero or the civilian government? Lt. General Jaime Milans del Bosch, who commanded the III Military Region in Valencia, ordered tanks into the streets and declared a state of emergency. He sided with Tejero and declared martial law in Valencia until the siege in Madrid ended.

With a constitutional crisis erupting in his nation, King Juan Carlos was forced to decide between endorsing the coup or condemning it. After discussions with several senior military leaders during the night, he learned that the vast majority of the military remained loyal to him. At 1:14am on February 24, Juan Carlos appeared on national in full dress uniform of the commander-in-chief of all Spanish armed forces. He gave a short speech in which he repudiated the coup, declared the sanctity of rule of law and the constitution, and revealed that he had ordered the coup put down at all costs.

In that moment, it was generally felt that the coup had failed. Tejero was brought a special edition of the national newspaper later that morning and, upon reading about Juan Carlos’s speech and the inaction of the rest of the military, he apparently realized he had been defeated. Lt. General Bosch was arrested a few hours later while Tejero held out until the afternoon of the 24th, after which he was finally taken into custody and the Deputies freed from the chamber.

The 23-F Coup remains a seminal event in Spanish political history. There lay in the events of February 23 and 24 the ability for Spain to backslide into Francoist authoritarianism. Juan Carlos himself was deeply conservative and did not care for the participation of socialists and communists in the government, but he chose to use the prestige of the monarchy to endorse democracy instead.
