To most, Layla comes across as mousy and quiet, someone who hides away and doesn’t want to know anyone. To those who know her well, she is the complete opposite.

She has a past that shaped her very differently over time, changed her entire personality.

Growing up, she had a pretty uneventful childhood, one full of fun and holidays to traditional seaside haunts. She spent a lot of time in the penny arcades lining the Blackpool seafront.

As a teen she came into her own, a little rebellious maybe, sneaking out to every party that she could find. She didn’t want to be the daughter her parents wanted her to be.

It was slated from a young age that she’d go into medicine much like both her parents did, but she had other ideas. A creative individual, she wanted to do something with words, to get her stories out there.

Her life during university was mostly a drug-fuelled riot. She would be out every night, living her best life. Supposedly.

It became less enticing during her third year when a group she thought were friends took advantage of her, abused her friendship beyond recognition in every way possible. She was left alone and out of pocket by thousands, an addict with no clue what to do.

By the time she left university she was lost, but following a couple of years on a program to help her addiction, she finally found a way through. She was helped by an old friend from home.

The move to Denver came a few years later and she really began to find a life for herself once again. One the complete opposite to what she’d had as a teen and in her early twenties.

She picked up a job at one of the biggest publishers in the US editing future releases and settled into a small apartment, cats becoming her new best friends.

She’s entirely t-total these days, and spends more time inside than out, but she’s a good person to know —- she cares deeply about those she’s close to.
