FLOG GNAW CARNIVAL

Originating from a city whose state fair is one of the top annual attractions, I could not pass up the opportunity to attend Tyler's 3rd Annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. Recently relocating to LA, It was the first big event I attended since the move. With names like Pharrell, Rick Ross, Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, the $75 GA ticket made your eyes refocus on the headliners to ensure that indeed it was actually occurring.

With a bright and early start to my Saturday morning, I readied myself for the solo mission of CFG Carnival. Excited and eager for the adventure, I decided to Uber over to the University Park Neighborhood and get in line for the GA gates. Shortly after arriving, I parked it in line and waited for the 2 pm opening. The entry process was easy and fairly quick. Once the line began moving, it rarely paused. Getting in, ticket scanned, ass patted down, was pretty chill as well.

Being that it was a carnival with games and rides, the layout and execution of this carnival is brilliant. Something very original to Odd Future and you can witness that in every crevice of this Carnival. From the designated skate park set-up to the adornment of the cat faces at every focal point of this carnival.

You could purchase tickets to either get on rides or play games. Most of the games were traditional to the carnival/fair set up, except the prizes for game winners got to choose from OF merchandise and apparel, which I found very clever. Not to mention that every carnival goer was entered into a raffle to win a customized 1990 BMW 325is, which was pretty gnarly to look at.

Tyler drew the winning ticket half way through his set that night, and some lucky 18 year old Supreme lover walked away with the keys. Pretty enchanting for a carnival. Walking through the lot and seeing all the activities and people having a good time was so worth loosing my wallet in the MellowHype mosh pit:(. With such a defeating event, I couldn't even afford to eat any food or play any games after the wallet upset but I still remained until the very end.

Happy that I did stay. Seeing Mellowhype, Action Bronson, and The Internet as the sunset on a Saturday night in University Park LA was just enough ambiance to settle my grieving mind back into the performances. As night fell, Mac Miller took to stage followed by Rick Rozay himself. Tyler's performance piggy-backed Rick Ross and by 9:45p, it was time for the Pharrell Williams. 

This was my first time seeing Pharrell live and as a surprise he brought out N.E.R.D. They performed all their hits with mixes of Neptune produced billboard toppers.

By the end of the festivities, I had lost my entire identity in my wallet but had such a sincerely inquisitive experience. Feeling overwhelmingly inspired and thirsty for progression toward my own goals.
