The idea makes "Klutz's" - now Gift's - face light up, his tears forgotten in an instant. He shifts how he's sitting so he can look at Thorn better and try to see if he really means it. "Gift? I like that way better, and it'd mean so much to have my name come from you." He ducks his head, smiling as widely as a child and obviously trying to hide it. "Thank you, sir - I mean, Thorn, sir. Oops - sorry, sir! I mean Thorn!"

He claps his hand over his mouth, winces in pain, and scrambles to his feet, nearly falling in the process. He instinctively puts a hand out to steady himself on Thorn's shoulder and gets flustered all over again, wiping at where blood is trickling from his now reopened lip.

"Sorry, Thorn. Um. I'm really glad you like the flimsiweight! I'll make something better for you as soon as I can find the right material, I promise." Gift is just about to bolt away - why does he always have to make such an idiot of himself, and in front of the vod whose good opinion he so badly wants, no less? - but he pauses as what he thinks is a brilliant idea comes to him.

"Oh! Maybe that one senator who's always threatening my patrol group, Senator Oblor, would like a present! Maybe that'd make him happy for once and he'd stop being so mean to us." He nods determinedly. "I think I'll try it."

The concept seems legitimate but he doesn't really expect it to work, not after what he has learned about senators.
