Night's Reflection at Monterey Harbor
Canon 20D | Canon 17-40mm 4L17mm | 1/1.6s | ƒ/4 | ISO 1600 There’s something undeniably enchanting about harbors at night. The way the lights dance on the water, the quiet solitude of docked boats, and the mystery of the dark waters. 【COPY】 Camera Started Rolling! - Behind the Scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I formed a shooting team with three of my friends and it took a total of three days to complete the shoot.
I used a Canon 5D Mark IV with Canon 17-40mm EF L USM 1:4 to shoot the first scene because I wanted to amplify the loneliness and contradiction of the characters through wide-angle close-ups.
For the rest of the scenes, I used Sony A7M3 since it produces high-quality and great texture moving images.

This was one of the best auroral displays that I've seen since 2004 here in the Niagara region in southern Ontario. After a quick check on our weather station website, in the afternoon leading up to the event, I saw the banner that alerted me that the sun was pretty active and that aurora was a possiblity. So in the evening I set up my camera for sequenced exposures on my front steps facing north. It was initially cloudy but I knew that breaks were possible. It was worth clearing space on my memory card to take tons of frames that might later get deleted. Well after a good couple of hours, the high cloud deck thinned out at the perfect time to reveal an incredible outburst.  Incredible from our perspective being this far south. After scrolling through several hundred frames, I found a few favourite shots to share.
I'm glad that so many of you also took the opportunity to do the same thing and set up your camera to catch this display despite the clouds. It's amazing that the sun is still two years away from the solar maximum so let's look forward to more of these events.

*An era comes to an end!* No more mirrors ... After over a decade of service I have retired my three DSLRs (Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras - Two Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and one Canon EOS 1Ds). I have replaced them with three new mirrorless cameras (Canon EOS R6 / two with battery grip). All my existing Canon EF lenses are now equipped with RF adapters to work with the new cameras and I have added two new RF lenses to the setup. *Now I am equipped with modern technology for another decade of exciting wildlife photography!* The picture collage shows all the 'old' equipment (top image) and all the new equipment with all my lenses (bottom image). The picture of the little Cheetah was taken with one of the new cameras. In case you are interested these are the lenses I now use for my work: - Samyang RF 14mm/2.8 MF - Canon EF 17-40mm/4 L - Canon EF 24-70mm/4 L - * Canon RF 24-240/4-6.3 - Canon EF 50mm/1.4 - Canon EF 70-200mm/2.8 L - * Canon EF 70-300mm/4 L - Canon EF Macro 180mm/3.5 L - Canon EF 300mm/2.8 L - * Canon EF 500mm/4 L (*=The three lenses used most) I also use two iPhones and two DJI Drones for my work.
