Snapping up an opportunity to perform between lockdowns in South Africa’s beautiful Winelands.

Slinging a guitar over one’s shoulder to sing opera seems a little strange these days but in the 19th Century it was done. Fernando Sor was a singing teacher and singer. He wrote songs and opera as well as arranging opera. He sung and played.

Next Sunday, Nov 8th 2020, I am singing a 40 min lunchtime concert at Grande Provence Wine Estate in Franschhoek, South Africa. It will be great to sing in front of an audience again and show some of my work during Lockdown. The songs are varied so there is something for everyone and ends with opera.

The guitar and voice is my passion. The instrument is portable, affordable, beautiful, versatile and easy to source. The guitar is a perfect accompaniment to the voice.

Experts attribute one of the reasons for the decline in singing standards to the rise in pitch. The #guitar offers limitless and effortless opportunities to change pitch to the pitch that suits the music and the singer. The height of Bel Canto was a lighter voice production in an environment where music was, more often than not, tailor made. This picture shows a capo which instantly changes the pitch and also a Fender pro-tuner. I am singing all my Verdi at 432HZ and experimenting with Donizetti also at 432HZ. My Mozart is shifted to 421.6HZ. I am becoming increasingly convinced there should be a rethinking of pitch. Luckily, the early music performers are already making inroads into this.
