Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney: Ode to Z-Man
Tumblr media
Fishing after a front, during a full moon, and moderate west, northwest, and east winds is a chore. I've endured many springs like this over the years and it reminds me of my good friend, industry partner, andmentor, Captain Mark Zorn (Z Man - not the lure). Captain Mark Zorn and I have fished together through the Plantation of Crystal River with Bob Chappell and Roger Batchelor in the old days. This is where I learned to be competitive in the guiding industry because Z Man always was the top dog. Many times I would try to follow his drift and pattern his routine but it never worked, no matter how hard I tried. As he and I fished together at the Homosassa Fishing Club I found myself not trying to beat him, but instead, trying to mimic him in his guiding skills. As a mentor Z Man taught me to always put the client first. Know your anglers' skills and adapt to their expectations. Put your ego in your back pocket and don't let it interfere with the day's work. I now want to wish Captain Mark Zorn a very nice and well-deserved retirement. Thank you for always being who you are and the one and only Captain Z. The trout bite has been tight so if you are catching a few, stick to the area. The red fishing is most consistent in the last hour of the incoming tide and I've done best with live or cut pinfish a few keysin the backcountry. The nearshore rocks have been at best O.K. but if you're in the 8 to 10-foot range looking for trout etc... make sure to have a heavy spinning reel to handle a keeper cobia. Incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report from Captain William Toney To schedule a fishing charter or shore lunch excursion with Captain Toney, visit his website. Gain valuable insight on targeting mid-winter “puppy” black drum from Capt. William Toney and Capt. Chad Bryson with this In The Spread fishing video. William is a light tackle inshore fishing expert and Chad is a super accomplished fly and light tackle wizard. As usual, they open up the play book, so you will have all the information you need to limit out on super edible sized black drum.
Black drum are often overlooked when it comes to table fare and certainly underappreciated for their light tackle sporting quality. When venturing out for some wintertime inshore and backcountry fishing action, knowing how to target species selectively can help put more fish in the boat. Learn more with this video.

Watford not fit for 'battle', says Ranieri afer Brentford defeat
Watford manager Claudio Ranieri said his side have to learn to battle for their place in the Premier League after conceding twice in the final six minutes to lose 2-1 at Brentford on Friday.
Ranieri's men were heading six points clear of the relegation zone thanks to an Emmanuel Dennis header midway through the first half.
But they failed to hold out as Watford slipped to a sixth defeat in seven league games.
"It is a missed opportunity," said Ranieri. "We knew it was an important game.
"The Brentford team were ready for the battle and some of my players weren't. Every situation is a fight and we have to be smarter."
Brentford were still missing talismanic striker Ivan Toney due to a positive test for coronavirus, but the Bees turned the game around in a dramatic finale.
Captain Pontus Jansson powered home a header for his first goal for the club from Marcus Forss' flick on.
Substitute Saman Ghoddos then lured William Troost-Ekong into a rash challenge inside the box four minutes into stoppage time.
Bryan Mbuemo took responsibility from the spot in the absence of Toney and coolly sent Daniel Bachmann the wrong way to secure just Brentford's second win in nine league games.
"It's crazy. This is what football is all about. These are the moments we are working so hard to try and achieve," said Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
"It's an unbelievable performance and getting three points with the injuries and Covid cases. We equalise in the 84th minute and still go for the win, that's crazy."
Frank's men climb to ninth, 10 points clear of the relegation zone in their first season in the top flight of English football for 74 years.
Watford, by contrast, could end the weekend in the bottom three if Burnley beat West Ham on Sunday.  #บาคาร่าสล็อต

Monday Night Football FanDuel Picks: NFL DFS lineup advice for Week 8 Giants-Chiefs single-game tournaments
Tumblr media
It’s been a rocky season for the Chiefs. They’re fresh off of a blowout loss at the hands of the Titans and will look to get back on the winning track to close out Week 8 on Monday Night Football against the Giants. The G-Men will remain without star running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee). The Chiefs, meanwhile, will continue to play without their starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee), but fortunately there are still plenty of high-upside DFS options for our FanDuel single game lineup picks.
Here are the notable settings for FanDuel’s single-game contests: The point total for the “MVP” is multiplied by 1.5, but he doesn’t cost any additional money like the “Captain” in DraftKings Showdown contests. FanDuel’s default scoring is half-point PPR and four-point passing TDs, and there are no bonuses for 300-yard/100-yard games like on DraftKings.
MORE FD SINGLE GAME: How to win a FanDuel single-game contest
FanDuel Single Game DFS Picks: Giants vs. Chiefs
$60,000 budget, need at least one player from each team
MVP (1.5x points): QB Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs ($17,000)
It must be nice when what Mahomes has done through seven games is considered a “down” season. Mahomes has eclipsed the 30-point barrier on FanDuel on a pair of occasions, and even though the Giants can be plucky on defense, this is a spot where we expect Mahomes and Co. to find their groove. Another 30-point performance is a reasonable expectation.
FLEX: QB Daniel Jones, Giants ($15,000)
Jones has not been as productive on the ground in recent weeks, but we know he can rack up yardage — and fantasy points — with his legs. The Giants are still down a couple of key weapons, but their cupboard has been restocked to a degree, so Jones will have more support on Monday night. The Chiefs have been one of the worst defenses in the league this season. It might not be pretty, but Jones and the Giants should eventually be able to serve up a hearty serving of statistical production in this matchup.
MORE MNF: DK lineup | Shepard update | Toney update
FLEX: RB Darrel Williams, Chiefs ($11,500)
The Chiefs got behind big against the Titans last week, relegating Williams to a secondary role. He handled the ball just eight times a week after receiving 24 touches. On paper, the Giants aren’t likely to put the Chiefs behind the eight-ball in a similar manner, so chances are good that Williams will enjoy the benefits of a positive game script. He was active on the ground, through the air, and in the red zone against the Washington Football Team in Week 6. We should see more of the same on Monday.
FLEX: WR Kadarius Toney, Giants ($8,500)
There is some risk rolling with Toney coming off of his ankle sprain, but the reward makes the gamble worthwhile. Toney has been in and out of the lineup all season, but he’s still second on the team with 30 targets. The only player ahead of him — Sterling Shepard — owns a pedestrian 10.7 yards per catch. Toney will be the most dangerous player on the field for the Giants in what appears to be a friendly matchup. As long as he doesn’t aggravate his injury, he could inflict significant damage on a porous Chiefs defense.
FLEX: WR Mecole Hardman, Chiefs ($7,500)
Hardman is fourth among active Chiefs in touches, and he trails only Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in targets. Hill and Kelce justifiably dominate Mahomes’ attention, but when the Giants are able to discourage him from targeting one of his top two options, Hardman will be next in the pecking order. He’s demonstrated big-play chops on more than one occasion over his career. A touchdown or splash play could be all we need from Hardman to complement our other four studs.

Early yearsEdit
Tobey was born in 1917 in Oakland, California. Following his graduation from high school in 1935, Kenneth entered the University of California, Berkeley with intentions to pursue a career in law until he began to dabble in acting at the school's theater.[1] His stage experience there led to a drama scholarship, a year-and-a-half of study at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, where his classmates included fellow actors Gregory Peck, Eli Wallach, and Tony Randall.[2][3]
During World War II, Tobey joined the United States Army Air Forces, serving in the Pacific as a rear gunner aboard a B-25 bomber.[3] Throughout the 1940s, with the exception of his time in military service, Tobey acted on Broadway and in summer stock. After appearing in a 1943 film short, The Man of the Ferry, he made his Hollywood film debut in the 1947 Hopalong Cassidy western Dangerous Venture. He then went on to appear in scores of features and on numerous television series. In the 1949 film Twelve O' Clock High, he is the negligent airbase sentry who is dressed down by General Frank Savage (played by Gregory Peck). That same year Tobey performed in a brief comedy bit in another film, I Was a Male War Bride. His performance in that minor part caught the attention of director Howard Hawks, who promised to use the thirty-two-year-old actor in something more substantial.
The Thing from Another WorldEdit
In 1951, Tobey was cast in Howard Hawks' production The Thing from Another World. In this classic sci-fi film he portrays Captain Patrick Hendry, a United States Air Force pilot, who at the North Pole leads a scientific outpost's dogged defense against an alien portrayed by James Arness, later the star of the television series Gunsmoke. Tobey's performance in Hawks' film garnered the actor other parts in science fiction movies in the 1950s, usually reprising his role as a military officer, such as in The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) and It Came from Beneath the Sea (1956).
TelevisionEdit
Tobey appeared in the 1952 episode "Counterfeit Plates" on the CBS series Biff Baker, U.S.A., an espionage drama starring Alan Hale, Jr. He was cast too in the 1954-1955 CBS legal drama The Public Defender, starring Reed Hadley. He guest-starred in three episodes of NBC's western anthology series Frontier. His Frontier roles were as Wade Trippe in "In Nebraska" (1955) and then as Gabe Sharp in "Out from Texas" and "The Hostage" (1956). In 1955, he also portrayed legendary frontiersman Jim Bowie on ABC's Davy Crockett, a Walt Disney production, with Fess Parker in the title role. After Bowie's death in the series at the Battle of the Alamo, Tobey played a second character, Jocko, in the two final episodes of Davy Crockett.
Tobey then, in 1957, appeared in the syndicated religion anthology series Crossroads in the role of Mr. Alston in the episode "Call for Help" and as Jim Callahan in "Bandit Chief" in the syndicated western series The Sheriff of Cochise. Later that same year, Tobey starred in the television series The Whirlybirds, a successful CBS and then-syndicated adventure produced by Desilu Studios. In it he played the co-owner of a helicopter charter service, along with fellow actor Craig Hill. The Whirlybirds was a major hit in the United States and abroad, with 111 episodes filmed through 1960. It remained in syndication worldwide for many years.
In 1958, Tobey also appeared as John Wallach in the episode "$50 for a Dead Man" in Jeff Richards's NBC western series Jefferson Drum. In 1960, he guest-starred in the episode "West of Boston" of another NBC western series, Overland Trail, starring William Bendix and Doug McClure. Also in 1960, he appeared as Colonel Lake on Death Valley Days and on ABC's western The Rebel, starring Nick Adams. Tobey made three guest appearances on Perry Mason, twice in 1960 and once in 1962 as Jack Alvin, a deputy district attorney. On the long-running western series Gunsmoke, he portrayed a cruel, knife-wielding buffalo hunter in the 1960 episode titled "The Worm".[4] Tobey in 1962 also guest-starred on another Western series, Lawman, playing the character Duncan Clooney, an engineer who seeks to move a shipment of nitroglycerin through Laramie, Wyoming. When the town is evacuated to allow passage of the explosives, two of Clooney's employees decide they will take advantage of the situation to rob the bank.[5]
Tobey guest-starred as well in Jack Lord's 1962-1963 ABC adventure series about a rodeo circuit rider, Stoney Burke. In 1967 he performed on the series Lassie, in the episode "Lure of the Wild", playing a retired forest ranger who tames a local coyote. He also appeared as a slave owner named Taggart in "The Wolf Man", a 1967 episode of Daniel Boone, starring Fess Parker.[6] A few of the many other series in which Tobey later performed include Adam-12 (1969), Gibbsville (1976), MV Klickitat (1978), Emergency! (1975), and Night Court (1985). Tobey also appeared in Barnaby Jones; episode titled, "Fantasy of Fear" (02/25/1975).
He became a semi-regular on the NBC series I Spy as the field boss of agents Robinson and Scott. Christian Nyby, director of The Thing From Another World, often directed those episodes. Tobey also portrayed a ship's captain on the Rockford Files, in an episode titled "There's One in Every Port".
Other filmsEdit
In 1957, Tobey portrayed a sheriff in The Vampire (a film that some sources today often confuse with the 1935 production Mark of the Vampire). That year he also appeared in a more prestigious film, serving as a featured supporting character with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, the co-stars of John Ford's The Wings of Eagles.[7] In that film, Tobey—with his naturally red hair on display in vibrant Metrocolor—portrays a highly competitive United States Army Air Service officer. In one memorable scene he has the distinction of shoving a piece of gooey cake into the face of John Wayne, whose character is a rival United States Navy aviation officer. Not surprisingly, a room-wrecking brawl ensues.
Tobey's work over the next several decades was increasingly involved in television productions. He did, though, continue to perform in a range of feature films, such as Stark Fear, Marlowe, Billy Jack, Walking Tall, The Howling, the war movie MacArthur (in which he portrays Admiral "Bill"[8] Halsey), Airplane!, Gremlins, Big Top Pee-wee, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch.[9]
BroadwayEdit
Although Tobey had a busy acting career in films and on television, he also periodically returned to the stage. In 1964 he began a long run on Broadway opposite Sammy Davis, Jr., in the musical version of Clifford Odets' play Golden Boy. Some of his other Broadway credits are As You Like It, Sunny River, Janie, Sons and Soldiers, A New Life, Suds in Your Eye, The Cherry Orchard, and Truckline Cafe.[10]
Later yearsEdit
As his long career drew to a close, Tobey still received acting jobs from people who had grown up watching his performances in sci-fi films of the 1950s, particularly Joe Dante, who included the veteran actor in his stock company of reliable players. Two appearances on the sitcom Night Court came the same way, through fans of his work. Along with other character actors who had been in 1950s sci-fi and horror films (John Agar, Robert O. Cornthwaite, Gloria Talbott, etc.), Tobey starred in a spoof originally titled Attack Of The B Movie Monster. In 2005, Anthem Pictures released the completed feature version of this spoof on DVD under the new title The Naked Monster. Tobey's scenes in that release were actually shot in 1985, so The Naked Monster is technically his final film credit, being released three years after his death. He had, however, continued to act throughout most of the 1990s. One of those notable roles is his performance in the 1994 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Shadowplay" as Rurigan, an alien who recreates his dead friends as holograms. Among other examples of Tobey's final decade of work are his two appearances as Judge Kent Watson on the series L.A. Law.
In 2002, Tobey died of natural causes at age 85 in Rancho Mirage, California.

Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney: Struggling with Snook
Tumblr media
Again another blowout day on the Big Bend. I can't remember the last time we've had so many late fronts, it's been at least once a week. I will say the clean days out there are very productive with big seatrout and nice slot redfish. The only inshore species that I've been struggling with is snook. I have caught a few, cast to a lot of them, and looked at many. One of the top live baits for our area is threadfin herring. It can take a lot of time and effort to sabeki them, but for Snook it's a no-brainer. They will go out of their way to eat this bait. The other that's readily available at most tackle shops are mud minnows. I've had success with them, and live finger mullet. Finger mullet must be cast netted so they take some time to get. One of my favorite baits for snook is the D.O.A. 5.5 jerk bait. I spent a few days with the owner of D.O.A. Mark Nichols and he took Seth Horne from In The Spread and me on a tour of the facility that makes his baits. It was impressive to see the number of soft plastics that are made there and the amount of ingenuity that goes into all of these fish-catching baits. Those of you who have read my reports over the years probably know I talk about the 5.5 glow jerk bait a lot, but after seeing all the colors, patterns, and glitter, I felt like a hungry snook that wanted to eat everyone. Mark handed Seth and me a bag of various D.O.A. baits to encourage me to try some that I'd never used before because of my angling syndrome. I get used to thinking that this is the best - and only - color that's gonna work. I believe that those of us who spend a good deal of time fishing know what I mean. When this weather lets up I'll let you know how they work. If you plan on fishing this weekend the trout bite is good on the inside. With an outgoing tide most of the day, target the shallow edges of deep water creeks or river mouths. For redfish, fish the incoming tides on the western-facing points. Incoming tide will be late afternoon. Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report from Captain William Toney To schedule a fishing charter or shore lunch excursion with Captain Toney, visit his website. Rotherham beat Scunthorpe to reach League One play-off final
Rotherham moved to within 90 minutes of an instant return to the Championship as they beat Scunthorpe to reach the League One play-off final at Wembley.
After the first leg finished 2-2, goals from Richard Wood and Will Vaulks at the New York Stadium booked a meeting with Shrewsbury on Sunday, 27 May.
The Millers, relegated last season, went ahead through Wood’s smart header.
Vaulks added a second from close range, before Scunthorpe had captain Rory McArdle sent off for two bookings.
How Rotherham reached the League One play-off final[1]
The Iron had threatened to keep the tie alive before McArdle was red carded, with Ivan Toney, Cameron McGeehan and Duane Holmes all spurning good opportunities to cut the deficit.
But Rotherham survived the period of heavy pressure unscathed and were able to see the tie out relatively comfortably up against 10 men for the final 13 minutes.
More to follow.

What Va. voters can agree on: These guys and Trump are from different planets
New Post has been published on https://usnewsaggregator.com/what-va-voters-can-agree-on-these-guys-and-trump-are-from-different-planets/
What Va. voters can agree on: These guys and Trump are from different planets
At a happy-hour gathering at Freddie’s Beach Bar, a gay tiki bar in Crystal City, the evening’s main dish was Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the amiable pediatrician from the Eastern Shore who is the Democratic candidate for Virginia governor.
But many in the room, filled with liberal activists from deep blue Arlington and Alexandria, had chosen a very different item on the political menu in last spring’s primary, preferring to charge into the nation’s first major referendum on the Trump presidency by nominating a fiery progressive populist, Tom Perriello.
[Sen. Bernie Sanders endorses Perriello in Va. primary]
“Northam’s not perfect,” said Cragg Hines, a Democratic precinct captain in Arlington. Northam “sounds like he came from the Eastern Shore. He’s not somebody a lot of people here know. But right now, they only need to know one thing: He’s the Democrat.”
Now, in the final countdown to the Nov. 7 election, Virginians — whether Democrats at this gay bar in Northern Virginia, African Americans in Richmond or Trump supporters in rural Hanover County — face the question that may decide who becomes governor: Is this election a grand opportunity to send a message about America in the Trump era, or is it a parochial contest between two traditional Virginia politicians?
[If Trump was a rock star, the two candidates for governor in Virginia look like wallflowers]
In the nation’s first hotly contested statewide race since last year’s presidential vote, neither Northam nor Republican Ed Gillespie is lighting any fires of inspiration. In blue, urban Virginia and rural, red Virginia alike, voters talk more about what they dislike about the other guy than about any affirmative bond with the one they’ll vote for.
If voters on both sides of the nation’s political divide feel disconnected from their party’s nominee, it’s not without reason: Both candidates seem out of step with their party’s more populist impulses. Northam is a gun-owning rural doctor who voted for George W. Bush for president — twice. Gillespie is a Washington political operative who once pushed for Republicans to embrace pro-immigrant policies.
And in an era of red-meat politics, both men seem uncomfortable reaching out to people eager for a sharp, confrontational approach.
Nine months into the most volatile presidency in modern history, some voters hunger for a return to normalcy and are ready to embrace a quiet style, but others still seek high-octane delivery systems for their discontent.
Just north of Richmond, Hanover County is a rural bastion of Republicans and tea party loyalists who supported Trump overwhelmingly last November, then doubled down on populism in June’s primary by supporting the anti-illegal-immigration firebrand Corey Stewart over Gillespie.
[Virginia politicians of all stripes condemn white nationalism — except one]
The latest stories and details on the 2017 Virginia general election and race for governor.
Now, Gillespie needs those Trump-Stewart voters as well as middle-of-the-road ones to turn out in large numbers — and he’s running a campaign that offers different reasons to join him: It could be because he’s the moderate who talks about his Irish-born grandfather and used to urge the GOP to become more supportive of immigration; or because he’s the guy behind those lurid TV ads about Latino immigrant gang members who “kill, rape, control”; or because they just want to stop a Democrat whom they believe wants to take their guns away.
Gillespie, Bobbe Scruggs says, is pretty much everything she doesn’t trust about politicians. “Gillespie is establishment,” said Scruggs, an 88-year-old retired administrative assistant who was excited about Stewart in the primary and now dutifully attended a picnic for Gillespie in Beaverdam. “He hasn’t said one word about Trump. It’s a hold-your-nose vote, but I have to vote for him. We don’t want that goddamn Northam.”
Gillespie isn’t exactly what George Poffenberger is looking for, either. Poffenberger, 60, is a self-employed insurance agent in Beaverdam, where a convenience shop sells guns and where a sign put up by a local tea party reads: “Congressmen Should Wear Suits Like NASCAR Drivers So We Can ID Their Corporate Sponsors.”
Gillespie is “an insider; he was a lobbyist,” Poffenberger said of the candidate he will nonetheless vote for. “I voted for Trump because he was an outsider.” He will cast his ballot for Gillespie because he believes Northam is a threat to the Second Amendment. “You’re talking about the lesser of two evils,” he said.
That attitude is prevalent on the Democratic side of the ledger too.
At Freddie’s bar, Glenn Boledovich, a federal worker who lives in the Delray section of Alexandria, said he’s for Northam for one main reason: “He’s electable.” Boledovich said Northam is not as inspiring and progressive as some Democratic activists might like, but “I’m not a purist. He’s a doctor, a decent man, has principles. That works for me.”
To win, both candidates must appeal to voters beyond their natural bases. For Northam, that means connecting with, for example, the immigrants, federal workers and anti-gun liberals of Northern Virginia. For Gillespie, the challenge is to persuade Trump supporters eager to “drain the swamp” that a Washington lobbyist who ran the Republican National Committee is the man for that job.
Both campaigns argue that the other guy is mainly catering to his base, but their choices about where to appear and what messages to send demonstrate that both are trying to appeal at once to hardcore members of their own party and to independents and moderates.
Gillespie, a lifelong moderate who was once a Democrat, now gives speeches to business groups in which he touts his family’s journey “from immigrant janitor to West Wing of the White House in two generations’ time,” even as he also runs TV ads attacking Northam for voting to “let dangerous illegal immigrants back on the street.”
Northam has made a point of embracing the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party. “I’m not from Northern Virginia, can you tell?” he said at the gay bar, poking fun at his down-home drawl. He railed against the human toll taken by assault weapons, spelling out a vision of a state that welcomes immigrants, single-sex marriage, and transgender people.
Northam made a brighter show of his anti-Trump credentials during the spring primary campaign, when he ran a TV ad in which he called the president a “narcissistic maniac.” This fall, he has continued to criticize Trump: “I don’t see any goodness in his heart, any empathy,” he said in Crystal City last week. “As we say on the Eastern Shore, he lies like a rug.”
But Northam has also been careful to show that he’s a moderate Democrat who can make deals across the aisle, saying in a current TV spot that “if Donald Trump is helping Virginia, I’ll work with him.” Northam notes in speeches that although he seeks to restrict ownership of assault weapons, he “grew up hunting” and owns two shotguns. (Gillespie wrote in his 2006 book on campaign strategy that he does not own a gun; more recently, he has declined to say whether he still does.)
“We have a candidate who is uniquely positioned to bring over moderate, persuadable voters,” said David Turner, Northam’s spokesman. “A broad swath of the electorate who oppose Trump still want people to work with him.”
But how does a campaign simultaneously satisfy those people and those who seek total resistance to the president?
At a park in Henrico County where more than 400 parents watched their kids playing youth football, Northam remained on the fringes, waiting for his host, state Del. Lamont Bagby (D-Henrico), to bring him a few people to greet.
Northam’s reserve “is welcome for people who are not really engaged by Trump’s kind of energy,” Bagby said. “People see this as our first opportunity to provide some pushback against Trump.”
As Bagby, who is black, recruited African American parents to come over and meet Northam, some reacted to the candidate’s name with blank faces. The delegate tried this tack: “This guy right here brought Barack Obama out of retirement, y’all — you need to meet him.” That reference to the former president coming to Richmond to speak on Northam’s behalf worked nicely.
“With what we’re dealing with in the White House, people should be paying attention,” said William Moses, an emeritus coach of a youth team who plans to vote for Northam, even if he is so soft-spoken. “I guess it’s quiet strength,” Moses said. “But that doesn’t really matter. It’s all about this person in the White House.”
That perspective, of course, works both ways.
At Gayle’s Automotive Services in Beaverdam, the owner, Keith Gayle, 61, said he hasn’t yet decided if he will vote, because “I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not sure if it makes a difference. They’re not working for us.” But if he does, he is likely to go with Gillespie because “Northam is kind of scary.”
Gayle’s employee Dwayne Toney, 45, said he’d “probably” vote for Gillespie, mainly because of Northam’s advocacy for gun control. Toney embraced Trump’s outspokenness last year, but now thinks the president would get more done “if he’d shut his Twitter account.”
By comparison, Toney said, “Gillespie is a little humdrum.”
Gayle had an answer to that: “He’s not Northam.”
In a campaign featuring relatively bland personalities, both sides expect a low turnout, which makes it even more imperative to focus on getting their most dependable voters to the polls. So Gillespie has appeared with Vice President Pence in the state’s rural southwest, and Northam brought in Obama, who attracted a capacity crowd at a sports arena in Richmond.
“Every election is a balance between persuasion and mobilization,” said Mo Elleithee, a veteran Democratic strategist who worked on Virginia campaigns for decades. “Now, there are fewer persuadable voters than there used to be, so the campaigns are mobilizing their base voters.”
One tool both campaigns have turned to is fear, which can be a mighty motivator, especially in a race between two low-key personalities. Gillespie’s ads emphasize the dangers of gangs and crime, while Northam’s speak of Trump initiatives that could cut school funding, roll back environmental protections and “take away health care from thousands of Virginians.”
But on the stump, the candidates present a gentler version of themselves. In Chesterfield, Northam met a 91-year-old woman who allowed that she’s in reasonably decent health. “We woke up to see another day, so it’s a good day,” Northam replied, and though he lingered with her for a few minutes, he never mentioned politics or policy.
In an interview, Northam said his low-key manner is an asset in a time of blustery and mistrusted politicians. “I’m well-rounded,” he said. “We as doctors tend to be listeners. . . . I’m able to bring people from both sides of the aisle together.”
Gillespie’s campaign did not respond to requests for interviews.
Northam believes he can restore public trust in part just by being who he is: “Most people out there still trust their pediatrician,” he said. Voters, Northam insisted, “are longing for civility.”
But many Trump supporters say disrupting the system is more vital than finding compromise and comity.
At a Food Lion in Montpelier in Hanover County, Karen Lahocki, 57, a small-business owner, said she voted for Trump because she liked the way he talked. “He’s not an inside politician,” she said. “He said what people were thinking.”
This year, Lahocki is largely tuned out of politics, but she plans to vote for Gillespie simply “because he’s a Republican. I’m just not voting for any Democrat.”
Voter behavior in an untraditional year is especially difficult to predict, political strategists in both parties warned. Gillespie and Northam “both reflect traditional Virginia politics,” Elleithee said. “They’re not so much dull as traditional. Neither guy represents the extreme of their parties. And in this media environment, traditional doesn’t get rewarded.”

M/V Amy Gattle Crew Rescues Neighboring Vessel
Tumblr media
On Tuesday, February 28th, crew members of Terral’s M/V Amy Gattle were able to assist in rescuing five crew members from a nearby vessel who had ended up in the water following a sinking skiff.
When Danny Burgeron, captain of the M/V Amy Gattle, saw the neighboring crew's skiff had quite a few people standing on it, he asked his own crew to keep an eye on them to ensure they made it to their boat safely. Next thing Danny knew, a wave hit and the skiff overturned, taking the crew along with it.
Terral crew members Adam Johnson, William Stevens, Ronald Toney, and Matthew Mitchell were quick to act. "We stopped our engine and immediately got on our own skiff to go rescue their crew," Danny said. "Within ten minutes, we had all of their crew members out of the water."
While a few crew members were on the skiff rescuing individuals, another was alongside the tow with a life ring. "My crew did a really good job and did it in a timely manner," he said. "They were on top of their game."
Danny says their crew preforms weekly drills for situations just like this, including fire drills, man overboard drills, and various safety training.
“We are very proud of the competence and swift action of Danny and his crew. Most importantly we are happy they were in a position to help,” said Terral COO Johnny Martin.

Saturday Trout & Reds... (Crystal River, FL)
Kind of a hint of Spring for us out on the big pond and it sure was a pretty day. David and Brian joined me today on a group trip out of the Plantation on Crystal River with fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captain's William Toney, Mark Zorn and Rick Spratt. The whole team did a fine job with fine catches of trout and a few red fish. A couple blue fish and Spanish mackerel were also caught, which is a slight hint spring is on the way. Great job team and anglers... Capt. Dan http://fishingstatus.com/home/details/indexId/1234226?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr #fishing

Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney: Fishing the Foul Area of the St. Martins Keys
Tumblr media
I am looking forward to some decent weather that is enjoyable to fish in, as we had earlier in the week. When the wind calms down, one of my favorite springtime fisheries is west of the St. Martins Keys in theFoul Area. There are many natural rock piles and structures scattered over miles of 6- to 10-feet of water. Many species of fish like trout, spanish mackerel, bluefish, sea bass, pompano, jacks, and ladyfish concentrate here because of the abundant shrimp. Many times I've unhooked a trout and that fish is filled to the gills with shrimp. The fishing is fairly simple. How I work this area is to set up a drift to try to intersect as many rocks as possible that are marked on my GPS. If you are new to this then drifting and finding rocks on a calm day is part of the work it takes to become successful. I use a 1/8 oz. jig head with a MirrOlure LIL John for bait. I like using this soft plastic because it resembles a shrimp bouncing along the grass. Having a few different colors of LIL Johns helps because the color that the fish eat can change daily according to the conditions. Once my anglers catch a few fish in a row I'll stay in that location byusing a marking buoy or GPS. Etiquette for fishing in the Foul Area is easy, and, if followed, all anglers can put some fish in the box. When approaching the fleet of boats, slow down and put the motor in neutral, then study the drift andline up with the rest of the fleet accordingly. I try not to anchor unless it's on a rock and I'm targeting snappers or grunts. After drifting through the hot spot then I do my best to take a wide berth around the other anglers before setting up another drift. Incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend.
