Looking After Shoes
Looking after shoes is very easy, even in a climate like Norway has. They don’t need to be polished with shoe polish every day – it can be enough to do this once every four or five times you wear the shoes, provided you wipe them clean often.
Buy a good shoe polish. In fact buy one in black, one in brown and one neutral. Then buy shoe cleaning brushes. You will need two brushes to apply the polish and another two to do the polishing (one for black and one for brown). You then need some soft cloths for the final buffing.
Cleaning is simple.
Wipe the shoes clean with a damp cloth and let them dry. In Norway this is an important step – particularly in the winter, when grit and salt is spread on the streets.
Apply the polish in liberal quantities and make sure it is well worked into the leather. It is a good idea to polish the edges of the soles as well as the upper part of the shoes.
Let the polish dry for a good 10 minutes before polishing
Polish with a brush and then buff with a cloth
If you have leather boots that you do not want to polish with a coloured polish, use a neutral dubbin-type leather cleaner (mink oil for instance).  To make sure you do a proper job, remove the laces and try to get the cleaner everywhere.
There is lots of advice on the web for super keen shoe cleaners. Here is one of hundreds: http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-features/TMG8958422/Bring-me-shoe-shine-How-to-polish-shoes.html
