Feel like I haven't appreciated Sonny Carasi enough lately. We have so few fiercely gentle heterosexual men on television. He lets the women in his life take the lead without feeling threatened by them, actively combats toxic masculinity when he sees it and never takes away his partner's agency or decision making authority. He protects and provides without ever feeling aggressive. He can cook. He's a great dad to his wife's children (and should get to adopt them honestly) and his former boss is so fond of him she treats him the way she would have treated her little brother had circumstances not been what they were.
How can you not love him? He literally grew into a good man right in front of us. In a world of media with so many examples of toxic masculinity, Sonny Carasi is an example of positive masculinity.

No you don’t understand I was in pain after Mirror Effect with the scene where due to Amanda’s trauma and PTSD she just reacted and unintentionally scared the girls by rushing in with the gun. I needed a comfort scene after that and even though I didn’t get one seeing Amanda have a happy domestic moment with her kids is everything to me because we’re not left with the scary moment even though we know Amanda loves her girls. It shows that her kids are loved by her parents there’s no fear there and they’ll be loved for the rest of their life. Amanda will also be there more than before with this job while also making a difference so yeah while I love this scene for Rollisi reasons I also love it for mom Amanda reasons I didn’t know affected me
Everyone in this picture is loved and it’s wonderful and wholesome and it’s all I ever wanted ❤️💛❤️💛 found family really is the best

Can it be canon that your and Sonny’s first daughter is born with dimples and looks as cute as her dad does when she smiles? —Nic
SCREAMING OH MY GOD YES YES YES
She absolutely does!
So our first daughter, who we’d name Emilia Serafina Carisi and we’d call her Emmy and Lia, is born and immediately we’re both obsessed with her. You cannot convince us that she is not the most beautiful being on the planet. Sonny is of course immediately wrapped around her finger.
Then we get to take her home, we’re taking care of her, being new parents, all that stuff.
Then she’s a little over a month old, Sonny has gone back to work, and I’m spending time at home with her because I wouldn’t be back at work yet. He comes home that night and I’m chatting with her as I usually do and just ask “look, Emmy, daddy’s home” and as he comes into view she gives her first genuine smile and she has such obvious dimples and it’s absolutely Sonny’s smile and we’d both cry.

Common Cold
Tumblr media
Olivia Benson x reader warnings: minor language, that's about it. I did not read through this or edit it, so... not my fault if there's mistakes or its terrible LOL.
Olivia was pouring her coffee in the kitchen when she heard the small cough from around the corner of the hallway, glancing up in your direction as you rounded the bend.
“You coming down with something?”
“No.” You nearly shot her a glare, “my throat’s just drier than the desert.” You stepped up to the cupboard, pulling down a mug and shifted to the coffee machine only for Liv’s hand to wrap around your wrist, redirecting you to the fridge.
“You might want to hydrate first.”
“Fine.” You grumbled, pulling the Brita pitcher out of the fridge to fill the mug up, feeling Olivia’s eyes on you as you drained it in one go, filling it up again.
“I was gonna stop at the bodega for breakfast, unless you want something different?”
“I’m not really hungry.” You replied with a soft sigh and she raised a brow at you.
“What?” You asked.
“You didn’t eat much at dinner last night either, are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“Yeah. Just a tickle in my throat.” You waved her off, slowly sipping your way through the second mug of water, “Carisi always has extra of that emergen-c stuff, I’m sure I can steal some, kick the ass of whatever this is before it has a chance to sneak in.”
“Alright.” Olivia surrendered, pulling you to her to press a kiss to your temple, “you let me know if you start feeling worse and need to come home early.”
“I’m fine.” You insisted, pulling down a travel mug from the cupboard to fill it with coffee, glancing up at your girlfriend for approval that she gave in the tiniest nod before you added sugar and cream and followed her out the apartment door.
By lunch time, vitamins weren’t the only thing you’d stolen from Carisi, his Fordham hoodie wrapped tightly around your frame as you shivered at your desk. Olivia was on the way back from the break room, glancing up across the bull pen to see you tugging the hood of the sweater over your head before returning your attention to your laptop. With a gentle sigh she wandered over to your desk, placing down half her sandwich.
“Have something to eat, you’ll feel better.”
“Still not hungry.” You replied with a yawn, running your hands over your face, rubbing at your eyes the best you could without ruining your make up.
“Sweetheart…” she perched on the side of your desk, “no offence but you look like hell.” Her hand snuck under the hood, smoothing back a few pieces of your hair. “Are you sure you don’t need to go home?”
“I just didn’t sleep well last night.” You yawned again, trying to keep this one contained.
“Yeah, cause you were up all night coughing.” Liv pointed out and you pouted, “and it’s nowhere near cold enough in here for that hoodie, it’s June…”
“Guess I’m just running cold today.”
“Let me take you home.” She rubbed at your shoulder, “get you some rest.”
“M’fine.” You protested, a small cough rumbling through your throat, “can’t have you taking off in the middle of the day.”
“Alright, meet me halfway then.” She slid off your desk, “I’ve got some Buckley’s in my desk, you take some of that, and go sleep it off in the crib. I’ll wake you up when it’s time to go.”
“Fine.” You whined, pushing back from your desk as you followed her into her office, surprised when she followed you to the bunk room. She’d grabbed a couple of comfier blankets from her office, tucking them around you as you curled up on one of the beds, her hand coming to rest on your forehead.
“You really are burning up. If this doesn’t help I’m taking you home, understood?”
“Yes Ma’am.” You half teased back, yawning again as you nuzzled into the pillow, pulling the blankets and Carisi’s hoodie tighter around you.
“Get some sleep sweet girl.” Liv murmured, leaning down to press a gentle kiss into your forehead before she moved from the room, flicking off the light to hopefully give you a restful nap.
You weren’t entirely sure how long you’d been out; you just felt the bed dip with Olivia’s weight, a cool hand resting on your forehead and stroking your cheek. You groaned, slowly rolling onto your back as you attempted to stretch out your aching body.
“How are you feeling?” Olivia asked softly and you coughed in return.
“Sweaty.” You grimaced, “thirsty…sore…”
“Ready to admit defeat and let me take you home and properly take care of you?” She asked with a soft grin on her cheeks and you looked up at her and nodded. “Alright, c’mon.”
The entire trip home was honestly a blur, you could barely keep your eyes open, your head resting against the cool glass of the car window. Your body was burning, but you were shivering at the same time, your head throbbing and your throat on fire. Olivia’s hand was resting on your thigh, squeezing softly in assurance that you were almost home.
Back in the apartment she helped you change into comfier clothes, chuckling at the way you pulled Carisi’s hoodie back on, claiming it was fuzzier than any of yours. She sat you down on the couch, taking a make up wipe from the packet and cleaning your face before she urged you to bundle up in as many blankets as you wanted.
Your eyes fluttered shut, listening to her pad around the apartment while she collected whatever she deemed necessary. A few minutes later and she was perching on the edge of the couch, her hand soothing up your side, “sit up for me, take these.”
Groaning as you did so, your eyes cracked open, taking the pills from her and swallowing them down with the help of the large glass of water she’d brought you. She left the bottle along with the Buckley’s on the end table, the water on the coffee table so it was more accessible.
“That should help break the fever, help with your head. Try to get some more sleep and I’m gonna make you some soup for dinner, you need to eat, alright?”
You nodded bleakly, dropping back down onto the couch and Liv leaned over you, squeezing you gently and kissing the top of your head. You shivered slightly when she moved away, her body heat vanishing and she tucked another blanket around you in hopes that it would help.
Being as quiet as she could, she looked into the fridge, pulling out what she’d need for some semi homemade chicken noodle soup and was forever thankful for the leftover rotisserie chicken from last night. Vegetables were chopped up and then placed in the pot to sauté along with some garlic and she preheated the oven for some Pilsbury flaky rolls to go along with it, popping the tray in once it was ready. Broth got added to the pot, seasoned appropriately and once it was boiling and the delicious smells were wafting through the apartment she added in the noodles. Glancing over her shoulder she found that you were still dead to the world, curled around yourself on the couch snoring softly and she couldn’t help but smile, knowing that you were at least on your way to feeling better.
While she was waiting for everything to fully cook she opened the tea cabinet, searching through the boxes until she found the one she thought you would like the best that had the best benefits to helping a cold. She flicked on the kettle and pulled down a mug for you before picking a wine for herself and poured out a glass, taking a sip of it as she waited for the timer to go off. The soup finished first and she pulled it off the burner, tossing in the chicken, knowing it would heat fine as everything kept cooking, placing the lid on the pot to keep it going. A couple of minutes later and the rolls were being pulled from the oven and she was pouring out your mug of tea.
Behind her she heard a quiet groan, a shuffling of blankets and the slow padding of your footsteps as you paused in the kitchen.
“Smells amazing.” You commented, your voice hoarse.
“Well I couldn’t exactly let you go empty handed now, could I?” She asked with a smile, stepping towards you to cup your cheek, kissing your forehead. “Surprised you’re up already.”
“Have to pee.” You yawned, “but I was out long enough to start feeling better.”
“Good.” She pecked your cheek, “hopefully this is only a twenty four hour thing then.”
“Mmhm.” You nodded before disappearing down the hallway.
You stopped in the kitchen on the way back, offering to help and she simply shooed you away, telling you to get comfortable on the couch while she took care of things. First she refilled your water, making sure it was cold and crisp, then she brought over your mug of tea, followed by a steaming bowl of soup with a bun on the side. Finally she joined you on the couch with her own dinner and wine, settling in beside you.
“What’d you want to watch?” She asked, smoothing your hair back, pressing a kiss to the side of your head.
“Grey’s.” You mumbled back, blowing on your tea to cool it off before taking a sip.
“Alright.” She replied with a smile, picking up the remote to figure out where you’d last left off on your favourite binge. She watched you curiously for a moment as you tried to navigate the bowl of soup without using the table or pulling both your arms out from under the blanket, “you need a hand?”
“I dunno how I’m supposed to do this without spilling it everywhere.” You whined and she chuckled.
“Here.” She reached for the bowl, “settle in however you want. I’ll hold the bowl; can you handle the spoon?” She asked with a tease and you scowled in her direction.
“I’d be mad at you if you hadn’t made me dinner.” You grumbled, coughing a couple of times before you finally managed to get comfortable and could start eating your soup.
Olivia was happy to see you finish the bowl completely, using the roll to soak up the remnants of the broth before she placed it back on the coffee table. She readjusted slightly, her arm coming to rest on the back of the couch, her heart warming as you immediately dropped into her side. Your head came to rest on her chest, her hand automatically going to your hair, softly playing with it as you curled around her.
“Thank you.” You murmured softly, letting out a little yawn as you refocused on the tv.
“Of course sweet girl.” She replied, kissing the top of your head, “whatever you want, you get. You know how much I hate to see you sick; you’ll feel better soon.”
“Promise?”
“I do.” She laid a kiss on your hair, her hand soothing up and down your back, “don’t fight the sleep alright, you’ve seen this show a million times, you already know what happens.”
“Alright, alright.” You didn’t have any energy left to even try and fight with her, your eyes fluttering shut as the strum of her heart lulled you to sleep.
Olivia had said it herself already, it didn’t matter what she had to give up, or how much extra work she had to do, she would do whatever it was you needed to make sure that you were happy and healthy. She loved you; she loved taking care of you and more importantly she loved seeing you shine and you couldn’t do that when you were sick.  She would happily sacrifice an afternoon at work, a dinner out on the town if it meant making sure you knew you were loved.
Even if that meant you passed on whatever bug you had to her three days later and the entire process began again but from the other side.

Sonny Carisi: Claddagh Ring
Warning: Angst and mention of Irish heritage
There is a part 2 now
You stood at the kitchen counter silently. Sonny raised his voice still echoing off the walls as you watched his hands finally stilling as he finished talking. You weren’t sure how that fight had started tonight. Maybe it was just a continuation of many other arguments you had in the last month or two. Fights that never ended with a solution but hurt feelings. It felt like there was nothing you could do to fix it. Words even spoken with the best intentions seemed to be twisted into something ugly and cutting.
Weaponized.
Your stomach churned with unease. Anxiety chokes the air in your chest making it difficult to breathe. The inside of your cheek is aching and bleeding from your nervous habit of biting it when you become stressed. A habit you had thought you had long broken, returned with a vengeance. Your body is tense awaiting the next cutting comment.
Sonny is staring at you, his blue eyes icy. His posture is stiff, hands curled into fists. He had been a different person since the passing of his father. It had been a sudden and tragic loss. It had made your boyfriend cold and withdrawn. Angry in a way you had never seen him. You had been trying to support him. Be there for him.
But he didn’t want it.
Your relationship with Dominick Carisi was the best you ever had. Or at least it used to be. You never would have thought that your sweet and loving boyfriend could treat you so badly. You had held on tightly. You knew he was hurting, grieving the loss of a parent. But it was coming to about the sixth month after the passing of his father and things were not getting better but so much worse.
Sonny was staring at you expectantly. You kept your eyes on your hands on the counter doing everything in your power to avoid his gaze. “Aren’t you going to say anything?” Sonny’s voice was still angry and thick with his Staten Island accent. An accent you normally loved to hear and tried to bring out. You licked your dry lips to speak. Your throat held them tightly, thick with emotion. “That’s just great.” He huffed to your silence.
You looked back down at your right hand. The ring on your right hand. A dainty piece of silver. A crown sitting on top of two hands holding a heart. The heart pointing towards you. An Irish meaning as old as time.
A Claddagh ring.
You twist it with your thumb and middle finger. You pause only for a second before easing it off. It gets stuck, not wanting to leave the position it had been in for years. Finally pulling it free. You feel a single tear roll down your cheek as you flip it before sliding it back on- heart facing out.
Sonny catches the flick of movement, the flash of silver. His eyes follow the metal as it slides back on your ring finger. His hand braces on the counter to steady himself as he is flooded with vertigo. You had been silent all night. Unwilling to feed into the argument and add fuel to his anger. This one small action said more than a thousand words could have. It brought bile up, acid burning his throat. He had made heartfelt promises as he flipped the ring when you made your relationship official.
Now he watched in numb silence as it ended.

The Five Stages of Grief: Anger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: sorry it took me so long to get this up! It's been a crazy couple weeks and I hadn't had any time (or will, frankly) to do any editing. But it's here now! Also, guess who finally got an AO3 account? The story's posted over there now as well.
Pairing: Sonny Carisi x female reader
Tags: still angsty; language
Word count: 3.4K (I'm sorry, I got carried away!)
Previous parts: Prologue | Denial
After Amanda got her kids in bed, she decided to catch up on The Bachelor. He was about to give away his final rose when she was interrupted by her door buzzer. Begrudgingly, she got up to see who could be stopping by at this hour.
“Who is it?” She asked through the intercom, annoyance evident in her voice.
“Um, it’s Carisi. Can, uh…can I come up?”
That’s definitely not who she was expecting. Intrigued, she buzzed him in. She answered the door to a crestfallen Sonny. His hair was in disarray when it was usually cemented in place with gel. It looked like his eyes were red from rubbing them.
Her face of confusion morphed into one of sympathy. “I take it dinner didn’t go well?”
Sonny stood in the doorway with his mouth agape. He was completely lost for words. This was not where he planned on being tonight. But he didn’t want to be by himself, so he came to Rollins looking for the support of a friend.
“Why don’t you come in?” Ushering him inside, she observed his disheveled clothes as he dragged his feet through her living room. He was really out of it. She went into her kitchen looking for something to cheer him up. “It was pizza night at the Rollins household, if you want some.” She called to him while rummaging through her refrigerator. “I can get you a beer or—”
Peeking around the corner, she saw Sonny sitting on her couch. Resting his elbows on his knees, cradling his head in his hands. It looked like he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. You must’ve said something pretty awful at dinner to have broken him like this.
Changing course, she grabbed some glasses and a bottle of bourbon from the cabinet and joined him on the couch. “So, let me take a wild guess.” She poured a glass for him and herself. “She didn’t accept your apology?”
He picked up his glass and took a gulp. “Didn’t even come by for me to give it.”
“Ouch…” After hearing how you walked out on him, Amanda didn’t think dinner and an apology would fix much. But she at least expected you to tell him to his face. “That’s cold.”
“You’re telling me,” he replied flatly. He took another swig, welcoming the burning in his throat. Anything would feel better than the disappointment coursing through his veins.
“Can’t even believe it,” he huffed while staring at his glass. “I ruined the best thing that ever happened to me by missing a dinner reservation.”
“You know, if that’s all it took to ruin it…maybe it wasn’t all that good to begin with.” Amanda thought Sonny might’ve been looking at you through rose-colored glasses.
“I thought it was.” His face was full of sorrow and remorse as he finished his drink. “I know we haven’t spent as much time together lately. But when we were together, I thought we were doing fine.”
“What’d she say when she left?” She asked, trying to gauge your actions as she poured him another drink.
“She was tired of being an afterthought.”
She puffed out a breath and shook her head. “Well, I guess she didn’t know what she was signing up for when she decided to date a cop.” Amanda knew the toll working at SVU took on having a personal life. It was a balancing act that required a lot of sacrifices from romantic partners that most weren’t willing to make. You weren’t from their world. You probably wouldn’t understand.
“I’ve been trying my best.” His voice was dripping with frustration and exhaustion. “Trying to be a good detective, a good brother, a good boyfriend…”
“I know you have.”
“Then why can’t she see that?”
“What’s she expecting you to do? Quit your job?”
“I don’t know! She won’t even talk to me!” Exasperated, he slammed his glass on the table. This wasn’t how tonight was supposed to go. You were supposed to be home together. Apologizing to each other. Hugging one another and promising to do better.
“Look, Carisi, maybe you need to let this go—”
“I don’t wanna lose her, Rollins!” That was his worst fear. With all the horrors he’d witnessed, he was petrified something would happen to you. Something that would take you away from him. He just never thought that something would end up being himself.
“Okay, okay.” She set her glass down and grabbed his arm, trying to grab his attention. “Now, I don’t claim to be the expert on relationships here. But if this was it, the ‘true love’ you thought it was, would she have walked away so easily?”
Sonny’s hand began to tremble. He didn’t want to think about that possibility. He loved you and was doing the best he could. He was trying to make everyone happy. Why wasn’t that enough for you?
“I just wish she’d talk to me,” he muttered quietly.
“I’m sure she will,” she reassured him, patting him on the shoulder. “She can’t ignore you forever. But make sure you’re prepared for what she’s got to say.”
He picked his glass up and gazed down into the brown liquid. Swirling it around, he searched for answers as to what went wrong and what to do next. Unable to find any, he took another drink.
Tumblr media
Fin and Sonny had to go out to Brooklyn to talk to a witness. After they finished the interview, they walked back to their car as Fin tried to make him feel better.
“Look, man, all I’m saying is it could be worse. At least you got the apartment.” It wasn’t working. “When my ex-wife got mad, she’d kick my sorry ass out. Spent a lot of time couch surfing those days.”
Sonny could barely hear what Fin was saying. He was preoccupied with his raging headache, courtesy of his hangover from yesterday. He was pissed. And the more he thought about it, the more pissed he got. He texted you late last night and this morning hoping you’d respond.
Doll, please answer me.
I can’t fix this if you don’t talk to me.
Are you just gonna ignore me forever?
But he was met with radio silence. He was at the end of his rope. A relationship was a two-way street, and he couldn’t repair it alone. He was beginning to think you had no interest in trying. He was brought back to reality when he recognized a familiar bank a few blocks ahead. Your bank.
You could avoid his calls and texts, but there was one thing you couldn’t ignore.
“What’d you say we grab some lunch before heading back? I’m starving.” Fin asked as they passed by a deli.
“You go ahead. I, uh…got an errand I need to run. Meet you back here in twenty.” He picked up his pace and sprinted down the street.
Tumblr media
You were busying yourself with work. Color-coding your spreadsheets. Reorganizing your filing cabinet. Again. There was a lot of thinking to do, and you were just not up to it.
The texts from Sonny didn’t go unnoticed. It felt like your phone was burning a hole in your pocket. You knew you needed to talk. You were only avoiding the inevitable. Conflict really wasn’t your thing. You were more content to suffer in silence than voice your concerns. Being so passive helped you get through life. But it also got you walked over on multiple occasions.
You weren’t sure if you could move forward together. You wanted you to kiss and make up. Pretend like the other night never happened. But you knew things would inevitably fall back into the same pattern. Back to going to bed alone. Weekends by yourself. Sonny coming home an exhausted shell of himself. You couldn’t watch him waste away. Nor could you watch him put all his spare energy into caring for another woman. All your emotions were floating around inside you like a whirlpool. They were all tangled together, and you couldn’t separate them enough to know how to explain them to Sonny.
You were going to talk to him. Just…not yet.
The front door opening made you look up from your computer, and you were shocked by what you saw. It was Sonny, swiftly walking towards your desk. And he looked upset. A deer in headlights would’ve looked less stunned than you.
“What…what are you doing here?” You sheepishly asked as he stared you down.
“We need to talk.” His voice was clipped, answer direct.
“I’m at work, Sonny.”
“Well, you’ve ignored all my other attempts to get your attention.”
“I’m not ignoring you,” you lied poorly. “I’ve just been…busy.”
Not liking your answer, he huffed and crossed his arms. “Why didn’t you come home yesterday?”
“I told you. I needed some time.”
“Well, exactly how much time do you need?”
You didn’t have an answer to that. Your leg started bouncing, and your heart was pounding in your chest. God, why did he have to just show up here? You were already nervous about talking with him before he came. You wanted to get your nerves under control before you met so you could share your feelings with him calmly and eloquently. You weren’t expecting to get ambushed.
“You know, this isn’t even fair. I’ve apologized and tried to make things right, but you won’t even give me the time of day.” Sonny was beyond irritated, his voice becoming steadily louder. “You disappeared in the middle of the night, unable to be reached. Did you know I’ve been worried sick about you?!”
“Everything okay out here?” Your boss called out from behind you. A few colleagues were peeking out to see what the commotion was.
“It’s fine.” You put on a weak smile. “Nothing to worry about.” Your boss eyed Sonny up and down. Suddenly realizing how this looked, he uncrossed his arms and took a deep breath to relax his face. He then felt bad about showing up angry and unannounced. Although he took a small comfort in knowing that your boss cared enough to check on you in a situation like this. Your boss gave you a questioning look, and you gave him a reassuring nod in return. Satisfied enough that nothing dangerous was occurring, he reluctantly returned to his office.
“I’ll come by later tonight, okay?” You had to get him out of here before he got security called. “Now, will you please leave before we make a bigger scene?”
“That’s all I asked for.” He turned on his heel and walked out.
Tumblr media
You were surprised to see Sonny made it back to the apartment before you. He was sitting on the couch, looking pensive. Nervously, you walked over to sit on the opposite side. It felt strange being so far away when you had been so close just a couple of days ago. You both sat there for several minutes without speaking.
The silence was killing Sonny. He wanted to rip the band-aid off. To yell, fight, scream, something! He needed to move past the conflict part of this story and get to the happy ending. He wanted to hug you. Smell your hair. Whisper how much he loved you and that everything was going to be alright. But you wouldn’t even look him in the eye.
Fiddling with your sweaty fingers, you tried to figure out how to explain what you felt. But that was easier said than done. There was some deep-seated fear that saying it out loud would make things worse than they already were. You wanted to swallow your feelings and bury them deep inside. To keep them from hurting anyone.
“So, that’s it?” Sonny asked, unable to stay quiet any longer. “We’re just gonna sit here and not say anything?”
You were frozen in your seat. Searching for the right words and the courage to say them.
“Okay, don’t say anything and just listen.” He turned himself to face you. “I know things have been hard for us lately…”
You had a difficult time hearing Sonny over the ringing in your ears. You started to feel lightheaded and your breath quickened. It felt like you were floating outside of your body, looking down at the two of you. You just wanted to disappear.
Sonny could see that you were not hearing his words. He was losing you, even as he sat beside you, to some dark place in your mind. He needed to get you back, to focus on him. “Doll, please you at me,” he pleaded softly, breaking you out of your trance.
You slowly looked up. When you connected with his sad blue eyes, the corners of yours began to feel moist. But you tried to keep any tears at bay. You were not going to cry. You’ve cried enough already.
“How did we get here, sweetheart? How do we get back?” He reached across the length of the couch and offered you his hand, hoping you’d let him pull you out of the darkness. He wanted to be a beacon through the storm he saw in your eyes. A storm of raw, painful feelings that he had no doubt caused.
But you couldn’t take it. Not now.
“Sonny, I don’t know…it’s not that simple—”
“What do you mean ‘it’s not that simple’?” He was trying to remain calm but was starting to lose his composure.
You needed this to stop. Maybe ending things would be better for both of you. No more fighting. No more tears. “I think it might be best if we—”
“Don’t finish that sentence, please.” Shooting up from the couch, Sonny knelt in front of you and grasped your hands. You didn’t pull away, but you couldn’t look at him. “Tell me how to fix this,” he desperately pleaded. He refused to give up on you. “Just tell me what I have to do so we can go back to how we were!”
You took a deep breath, trying to find your voice. “I can’t go back.”
Sonny’s eyes filled with disappointment. “What, why?”
Your instinct was to shrink back into yourself. But you mustered courage you didn’t even know you had. “I’m tired, Sonny. I can’t wait around for you to choose me.”
“Choose you?” He was stunned by your words. “What are you talking about? I’ve chosen you every day since we’ve met!”
This was what you wanted to avoid. You didn’t want to make him angry. You didn’t want a fight. But you were in too deep now.
“I know you think that.” You tried to keep your voice from trembling. “But I’ve felt so lonely in this relationship. It feels like everybody gets the best of you, and there’s nothing left for me.”
He didn’t understand. How could you think that? How could you not see how much he loved you? “Why haven’t you told me this before?”
“When did I have the chance?” You replied with a sigh. “When you got off work in the middle of the night? After you came back from taking care of Amanda?”
This realization hit him like a ton of bricks. He released your hands and took a step back in disbelief. “So that’s what this is really about?” He couldn’t believe that you would think that way. That you thought of him that way.
Your arms were shaky from adrenaline. Arguing like this went against every fiber of your being. “Sonny, she sees more of you than I do.”
“She’s my partner. We work together,” he replied, emphasizing his choice of words.
“It’s not just work,” you countered. “You with her at work, you’re always at her place. Sometimes it feels like you’d rather spend time there than at home…with me. And I’m left here all by myself.”
“That’s not fair!” He snapped defensively. “You have friends and family around you, and she’s got nobody.”
You couldn’t help but huff at his response. “You’re right, I do. Thought I had a boyfriend, too.”
“The hell’s that supposed to mean?”
“You said it yourself.” You steadied yourself and stood up from your seat. “She has nobody but you. What does that sound like, Sonny?”
“It’s not like that and you know it.”
“I do?” Your cheeks began to flush, and your hands clenched into fists as you raised your voice to match his. You desperately wanted him to hear you. To see your side. “Do boyfriends stand their girlfriends up after canceling date night for two months? Or do they take them home and cook them dinner because they had a bad day?”
You left Sonny speechless. He’d never seen you so angry before. Why you were being so unreasonable? “What more do you want me to say, doll?” He asked through gritted teeth. “I’m sorry about missing dinner. I made a mistake. I thought you’d be more understanding since I was helping a friend.”
“This is more than just missing that date,” you retorted. Months of bitterness were coming to the surface. “This is about you burning yourself to keep everyone around you warm. Are you even happy, Sonny?”
“Excuse me?” He asked, dumbfounded by your question.
“You’re gone from dawn ‘till dusk, working a job that’s draining the life from you. What little spare time you have, you spend it taking care of everybody else. When was the last time you did something for yourself?”
Sonny brows knitted together as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “So you’re saying I should ignore when people need my help?”
You groaned and stamped your foot. He was completely missing your point. “I think you need to start thinking about what matters to you!”
Tensions were high and you were both tired. Physically exhausted, and tired of fighting. Neither of you were thinking straight and were spewing words you didn’t mean.
“This is all because you’re jealous?” He accidentally blurted out in a fit anger. “You’re seriously jealous of a lonely, single mother? You’re—” Sonny bit his tongue to stop himself from going any further. He was losing control of his temper and speaking without thinking things through.
Your jaw dropped in shock from his words. Something snapped inside you, and you could hardly recognize the man in front of you. This wasn’t the Sonny you had fallen in love with. “Not anymore. She can have you.”
You marched towards the door, past a red-faced Sonny. You could’ve sworn you’d seen steam pouring out of his ears. “If you walk out that door, there’s no coming back!” He bellowed at you.
But you ignored his warning. Looking over your shoulder, you yelled, “I’m done third-wheeling this relationship. You can fuck her all you want now!”
You slammed the door and ran down the stairwell. Once outside, you leaned against the building, then collapsed to the ground and sobbed. Your pulse was pounding in your head. It felt like your lungs had collapsed in on themselves, making every breath you took a struggle. You were shaking uncontrollably, experiencing a full-blown panic attack. What did you just do? How could you say those things?
Reaching his boiling point, Sonny punched a hole in the wall. The impact shook the apartment, and one of the picture frames on the mantle crashed to the floor. Needing to cool down before he caused any more damage, he sat down and took some deep breaths, not even noticing the pain radiating from his knuckles. He was disgusted by your accusation. But also equally appalled by what he said. He didn’t mean it. Could never mean it. He didn’t want you to leave.
Once he had his emotions under control, he took a second to observe the aftermath of his rage. A hole in the wall, broken glass on the floor, and a bruised hand. Completely drained, he thought it was best to try and get some sleep. He dragged himself to his bedroom to take off his sweat-drenched clothes and crawl under the covers, hoping sleep would overtake him. But as he stood at the foot of the bed, he couldn’t bring himself to sleep in there. This was your room.
The bed you shared.
It was only a tiny one-bedroom apartment, but he felt so lost in there without you. It wasn’t home if you weren’t here. He grabbed a pillow and blanket and stumbled into the living room, resigned to sleep on the couch. He got as comfortable as he could on the small sofa and closed his eyes. As he tried to fall asleep, the red-hot anger that had fueled him began to diminish. All he was left with was a feeling of emptiness.
Alone. He felt alone.

SFW ALPHABET
THE SONNY CARISI EDITION
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Sonny Carisi is the epitome of affection - he is so soft, caring and loving! He’s a touchy kinda guy, so he loves hugs, touching you whenever he can. His love language is cooking for sure and he loves taking care of you… and he loves kissing you too.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Sonny is a friendly guy and talkative, so it didn’t take you and him long to become friends and then best friends. The two of you bonded at first over family and food, and you two support rival ice hockey teams (you & the Rangers, while he supports the Islanders) so you affectionately argue over them & go to games a lot. You’ll be over at each others homes cooking too and have most likely met each other families and friends.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Sonny is the King of Cuddling, he loves it so much! He is long and lanky so his limbs wrap around you like an affectionate vine. He loves cuddles on the couch, you on top of him with legs intertwined. Spooning happens a lot too with him pulling you right against him.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Oh my god, YES! Sonny desperately wants to settle down, and he is so talented at cooking in particular. He wants marriage, to be married to you with a ton of little ones following soon after the big day. The two of you dance and sing together as you clean as you’re both goofy and it makes you both laugh after tough jobs.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
His Ma would kill him if he didn’t do it in person! He’ll be really explanatory yet guilty, especially if you cry. He’ll want to remain friends afterwards if at all possible.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Sonny is the King of Commitment. He is loyal and dedicated to you. He is a devout Catholic who wants a family and doesn’t go into relationships unless they want the same & understand his faith. If you’re wife material then it happens fast but he knows you’re The One.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Sonny is so gentle in every way possible. He is literally so so soft and squishy! That saying, he does have off days. He’ll never raise a finger to you at all.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Sonny loves hugs and to give them too. He does it a lot in different ways: cuddled in bed, wrapped up on the couch, snuggled in the bathtub, from behind as you cook or do something etc. Sonny’s hugs are warm, welcoming and just such an experience.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Sonny will say it once he knows you’re his endgame, which can be fast or slower than usual depending on the situation or external circumstances. He just loves you so much, you mean so much to him and he will not stop saying it.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Honestly, Sonny isn’t a jealous kind of person at all. He trusts you and knows how loyal you are too that he doesn’t need to worry about that sort of stuff. However he is a protective guy and keeps an eye on you whenever he can.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Such a great kisser, and they leave you dizzy & weak in the knees. Sonny loves kissing you on the lips most but he will kiss anywhere he can such as your temples, neck, nose, cheek, hand etc.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Sonny is a natural with children and particularly with younger children & babies. He adores his nieces and literally can’t wait to become a dad of his own brood.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Mornings with Sonny start with him up early to shower and cook some light breakfast, he’s a firm believer in a healthy cooked breakfast to start the day. The two of you work in tandem as you make the coffee using the Italian machine that cost a fortune and check emails for work etc. The weekends however are when he usually has a lie-in or morning sex…
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Weekdays are more tiring as you both work in the law area (with him as a detective and then assistant district attorney, and you as an assistant district attorney also) and it’s basically a warm home cooked meal made from some frozen meal prep and cuddled together on the couch, chatting and destressing. Saturday nights are usually date night so Sonny takes you out somewhere, sometimes a nice restaurant or dancing, maybe a movie sometimes before coming home to rut like rabbits
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Sonny could talk about his family until the cows come home, he’s so proud and loving about them all. Even though you’re a lawyer, he hates bringing work or the effect of it on him home and takes a bit of time before he gets able to know you’re able and wanting to be there for him. He doesn’t want you scarred, you’re his safe space & home.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Sonny is usually a guy who is extremely patient and sensitive, and is very very hard to anger. However he is human and bottling it all up can explode out of him but he never gets physically angry. As an assistant district attorney now, he’ll come home and you can hear him stressing out in Italian in his study.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
He tries his best so much! He doesn’t forget your birthday or anniversary though, he has reminders in his phone and physical paper calendar too - and now as an assistant district attorney, he has an assistant who can remind him if he he’s knee deep in cases. He’ll remember your favourite recipes and coffee order/like though too.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
It is a tie between your first kiss or the first time he was taking you to his parents home for Sunday Mass & lunch/dinner. The kiss happened at your apartment door, he had walked you up to it so to make sure you got home safely after a date night together where he had made a fantastic dinner before taking you to a Broadway show for a change… and that kiss was so good but as your lips touched it was then that you both knew. Now, the other story; Sonny had arrived to your apartment early to take you out to Staten Island and found you cursing at the oven to hurry up. You had went to the trouble of not only baking ricciarelli but also melanzane alla parmigiana and lasagne al pesto too. He had been blown away by the effort you had put into it all and couldn’t help but kiss you right there and then.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
As a detective or assistant district attorney working in sex crimes, Sonny is very protective of you. He makes sure you know how to protect yourself, perhaps even how to fire a gun too. If he’s in danger then he’s having you in protective custody or with a 24/7 police detail around you. Sonny knows you’re very protective of him too and like a mother bear at times.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Sonny tries to make every date, anniversary etc. better than the last one but sometimes he’s too busy or drained and you never judge him. Whether it’s sticky notes on the mirror or elsewhere or homemade biscotti with a warm cup of coffee, you know how heartfelt Sonny’s action is.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
He works long hours and can’t get away at times. Also he loves his family so much that he can sometimes prioritise them over you at times. As a Catholic, Sonny prefers praying or attending Confession over opening up which takes a long time for you to get him to break as a habit (sort of; he still goes, but now he tells you also) Sometimes as well, Sonny makes a mess in the kitchen with his concoctions and you don’t know where to start with the washing up.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Sonny loves his hair. He also loves fine Italian suits and other fashion items. Once upon a time he did have a moustache but he keeps himself clean shaven now and puts gel in his hair. However on when it is his days off, then he’s not as precise and will cuddle up with you in just a laidback shirt and jeans with his hair floppy (which you love).
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Oh man, Sonny would be lost without you! You’ve become a part of him; his heart, his soul and his everything.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Sonny mentors children within his church and teaches Sunday School when he can, he loves being able to do some good in the world. When they’re older and looking for an internship or work experience, he’ll help them out.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Sonny doesn’t like bigots or bullies, and he doesn’t want someone who isn’t loyal or supportive nor anyone who doesn’t want a large family and to settle down. He also isn’t a fan of aloofness or smugness either.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)
Sonny sometimes takes a sleeping tablet to help him sleep as he’s got a stressful job and he’s seen some horrors in his career too. He also likes watching you drift off to sleep next to him as it helps anchor him. When he’s a dad, Sonny is absolutely bringing the baby or babies into the bed and cuddling with you & them on the weekend.

✯✯✯✯
“I like you so much, I wish you were more than just my intern.”
“Well, those arrangements can be made.”
You enjoyed being a detective, but you wanted more. You followed in Sonny’s footsteps for as long as you could imagine and now it was your time to shine. You and Sonny had been partners for about 4 years when he announced he was applying to law school. You were there for Sonny when he got his acceptance letter, and when he had mentioned before his acceptance that he was applying to Fordham night school to become an ADA, it had become a surprise to you because you were actually looking at that school, among many others in the area. A few years after Sonny finished law school, you got one of the best news of your life.
“Sonny, you need to come over ASAP.” You said over the phone.
“Why, are you okay?”
“I just have something here that I’d like you to witness.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in 20.”
When Sonny came over, the both of you curled up on your living room couch staring at your laptop.
“I got an email from Fordham.”
The clock ticked slow from the time you opened up the email to the time you clicked on the link to log into the portal.
“Is that what I think that is?” Sonny said.
After you logged in there was another thing you had to click on in order for you to see your application status. Then, a whole bunch of confetti popped up on your screen.
“OH MY GOSH I GOT IN!” You screamed.
You and Sonny screamed and laughed for a few moments, living in the moment. You got accepted into law school!
“I’m so proud of you Y/N. You deserve it.” Sonny said, pulling you into a hug.
“Aww thank you.” You beamed. “And look at you, thriving as an ADA already. If anything I’m proud of you!”
Sonny also had a wide smile on his face. “It’s no easy thing, so thank you. These accomplishments deserve a little celebration, dont’cha think?”
“Oh yea,” You agreed.
And with that, your life changed.
•••
Fast forward a few months, you went through orientation and all those get to know you stuff and you were now taking your official classes. Sonny on the other hand was doing great as an ADA and you were extremely happy for him. Juggling law school and working as a detective, not to mention you got promoted, was something you were learning to handle one day at a time. You didn’t know how Sonny did it.
Throughout the semester, Sonny occasionally popped by to check on and see how everything was going, and he even helped you with some of the classes that he previously took. When you had your spare time on the job you went to visit Sonny to see how he was handling Hadid and the cases he had to work with. On the days he had to work late to prep for trial, you were reluctant to leave him, you were curious about this aspect of being an ADA. He gave you advice and other words of wisdom that you kept with you throughout your time in law school.
A year and a half passed by and Sonny was taking off with his career and you were still in school, doing everything you could to get high grades in your classes. On top of that, dealing with all the changes Manhattan SVU was going through was taking a toll as well. It was about that time for you to start gaining experience. Sonny let you sit in cases, live cases, in the courtroom, as you took notes on his techniques, just as he did when he learned from Rafael.
“You know, you might as well be an ADA now with all these cases you’ve sat in with me.”
“Not yet, Counselor. Give it about two more years. For now, I’ll be your little intern.”
That brought a smile to Sonny’s face. “Intern, huh?”
“Yeah.”
“If you’re serious about it, I can make arrangements with the DA… it can be your part time.”
Your eyes widened. “Sonny…”
“I know, I know. You don’t have to act on it right away, I just want the best for you. I didn’t get the chance to do this, but I want you to have it.”
You didn’t know what to say, so you hugged Sonny.
“Thank you. Seriously, for everything.”
“Of course. Anything for my partner.”
•••
After many conversations with the DA’s office, the bureau chief, and even Benson, you got your official position as ADA Sonny Carisi’s intern. Part time internship kind of situation. It was needed as one of the requirements for one of the classes you were taking so it fit.
Your days consisted of looking over some of the cases Sonny had on his docket, taking notes for your own practice, as well as observing during cases. You did get paired with other ADA’s on the eighth floor, but you always drew yourself towards Sonny.
•••
One night, you were in Sonny’s office looking over a case with him when he decided it was best for the both of you to have a nightcap.
“Hey, you’ve been taking notes on that case file for a while. Unwind with me.”
You looked up and saw Sonny pull out a bottle of wine and glass cups. You watched him pop the bottle open and pour the red liquid in both of the cups. He handed one of them to you, hoping you would accept it. You sighed, plopping the case file on the table. Taking the glass with a smile on your face, you followed Sonny to the couch he had in his office.
“You know, I don’t think I ever told you this, but it’s beautiful how dedicated you are to becoming an ADA.”
“Aww, you think so?”
“Yes.”
“I appreciate it a lot. I think a part of it was also your doing. You inspired me to go further in my career. Further helping victims of all walks of life that don’t have a voice of their own, victims that want to be free from the shackles of their toxic situations, victims that are tired of their bodies being used forcefully for sexual desires.”
“Maybe I did inspire you. You’ve really been a great advocate for everyone that walked through those precinct doors and it shows.”
“Cheers to that.” You smiled, raising your glass.
Sonny clinked his glass with yours and smiled. “Cheers.”
“I’m glad you’re my intern.”
You raised an eyebrow, setting your glass down. “Oh?”
“Yeah. I get to spend more time with you, for starters.”
“Mmm, yeah, I miss you at SVU sometimes. It’s not the same without you.”
Sonny nodded. “I get that.”
There was a moment of silence between the two of you, just completely comfortable silence and long looks.
“I like you so much, I wish you were more than just my intern.” Sonny admitted to break the silence.
You were startled at first, but then a smile crept on your face as soon as you knew what he meant.
“Well, those arrangements can be made.” You whispered. You took one more sip of your wine and scooted closer to Sonny.
“Oh yea?” He said in a hushed tone, moving closer to you as well. At this point, the both of your thighs were touching each other. You felt a major spark between you and him. You were feeling a certain type of way and it wasn’t from the alcohol.
“Yea.” You whispered.
Sonny gently took your face in his hand and kissed you.
After the kiss, the both of you were smiling, holding each other’s faces in hands and touching foreheads.
“I want more,” you said. “That was beautiful.”
“Beautiful indeed, my little intern.”
