Anneleen Lindsay is a photographer from Edinburgh who's photo collection entitled 'Electric Visions' is based around her experiences living with epilepsy. Through her photos she charts her feelings from onset to the aftermath of her seizures. I love how she incorporated light and blurriness in her photos as it represents brain recordings from EEG scans (which are used to record electrical brain activity).

Aideen Barry and Alice Maher's exhibit 'Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair' is a collection of wall drawings, video installations, wood block prints, animations, sculptures, film and multi- screen presentations. The title of the exhibit comes from the opening line of Shakespeare's Macbeth. This line shows how good and evil become confused. I like the theme of this exhibit because I find that through my research about epilepsy demonic and divine become confused aswell.

Carl krull dose incredible work with line in his 2017 'Barrier Drawings'. Made of ink on paper, his use of shape, line and form is beautiful and I would really like to incorporate some of his techniques into my own work.

The speculated purpose of this drawing is to show a human in a shape that resembles a human, but drawn differently through lines or rays that come together to create a human.  The purpose is to use lines to create a shape that invokes thought or emotion/feeling.

Carl Krull, born in 1975 is a Danish artist. Known for his contemporary artwork which revolves around using lines to create seismic sculptures and paintings, for the line art he uses pens and black inks.

This results in his art pieces having volume with the use of spacing and various depth to the lines, this makes the figures in his work appear 3D on a 2D plane. I find his work very captivating with the bold line work showcasing the journey he made to produce each line connecting together to result in an almost human figure.

From my artist’s research on Carl Krull, I decided I wanted to illustrate a bold, yet colourful journey I took in my past. I experimented with various types of lines that relate to a specific feeling or emotion. This helped me get a better understanding of how I wanted to create my final outcome of ‘Taking a line for a walk’.

For my own portrayal of ‘Taking a line for a walk’, I decided on illustrating my journey walking to the lake deep within the park that my childhood home lived by.

As such, I experimented with using vibrant colours that relate to the area the line went through, such as making my house stand out with having a bright yellow circle exaggerating the start of my journey. Then slowly turning pink to blue to green to represent the park, with a small tree on the hill of the line. Lastly, I went coloured the line green to a deep blue to portray the lake, with water flowing from the deep spiral signifying the end of my journey trekking throughout the park.

I believe my ‘Taking a line for a walk’ is successful in displaying the use of a coloured pencil to portray a vibrant line, with added monuments and texture to the different areas throughout the journey. The chosen colours play an important role in representing what emotion I felt on the walk, with blue being confident, to the greens where I had felt relaxed from walking through nature then back to blue as I was contempt on reaching my destination of the lake.

Where are you born /Where did you grow up? I was born in Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, but I'm half Filipino, half Irish. My grandparents were missionary doctors, and settled in Curaçao, where my mom went to them to have me, on my grandfather's 50th birthday.

I grew up in Colton, California, a small city about an hour east of Los Angeles.

Where do you live, now? I was in the Air Force for 11 years, living in Texas, Maryland, and California. In 2012 after the Air Force, I moved to Los Angeles to go to art school (Otis College of Art and Design) and pursue an art career.

When did you start doing Tape Art? I started doing tape art in 2015. During my senior year at Otis College, our studio of 8 students had a group show in the Bolsky Gallery, and we decided to grid up the entire space and then incorporate our individual art works/ installations. We used black tape on the walls and the floor to grid up the room. I ended up doing most of the taping, and I enjoyed it, and started getting ideas of using the tape for my artwork itself. For that show I used different colored tape on top of the grid tape to create an optical illusion of a cubic formation in the corner of the gallery. After that I started using tape more and more, and integrated that medium with my line work.

Why Tape (Art)? I've always been drawn to lines. As a kid I used to doodle on all my homework with lines. My primary interest is in using lines to affect visual perception. I like using tape to do this because of its versatility. A tape installation is usually temporary, but I have the option of making them more permanent. I appreciate the ephemerality of a tape art installation, and with tape I can go to the floor and to the ceiling (as long as the surfaces are tape-friendly), where I might not be able to with paint.

Who / what does inspire you? Who:  I've always been a fan of M.C. Escher's tessellations and geometric, illusory work. I'm also inspired by the line work of Sol LeWitt and Carl Krull. What:  I am interested in perception: how we see things and the limits of our abilities to perceive things. I'm inspired by natural patterns in the universe, and interested in the psychology of humans in seeking patterns where they do not exist. With my art, I attempt to lead the viewer off of a perceptual cliff, into an imaginary abyss where space bends and time wrinkles.
