On June 27, 2003, The Room premiered in Los Angeles at the Fallbrook and Laemmle Fairfax theaters. The Room is the vanity project of the mysterious Tommy Wiseau (how old is he, where is nationality, what is his net worth, where does his money come from... only the shadow knows) who wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, as well as distributed when no one else would. He intended it to be an emotional tragedy classic, but instead created what has been called the Citizin Kane of bad movies. The only tears on the premiere were tears of laughter, at least of those that weren't already at the ticket booth demanding their money back. The film was repackaged by calling it a black comedy. Tommy paid to keep it in a theater long enough to make it eligible for the Oscars. Even though the movie only ran about two weeks (with a sign warning "no refunds"), he paid to keep the bill board promoting it up for five years. Towards the end of its run, it started to become a cult classic of people coming to mock it. This lead to it becoming a midnight showing interactive cult film, like Rocky Horror Picture Show, including throwing spoons and footballs. The movie, the making of it, and the strange friendship with co-star Greg Sestero inspired both the book and movie "The Disaster Artist". Robyn Paris gathered the rest of the main cast and made (in my opinion) a hilarious mockumentary "The Room Actors... Where Are They Now?" (Real Life Event)
