Benicia Bridge Vista Point, CA (No. 3)
A vista point is located on the north side of the span, providing an excellent view of the 3 parallel bridges passing over the Carquinez Strait with Mount Diablo in the background. It has ample parking, picnic tables and a large compass to provide orientation. This is typically the point where cyclists and pedestrians wishing to cross the bridge park their cars.

Jed Brewer has worn many musical masks over the decades. Indie pop weirdness in Harvester, the maestro in Carquinez Straits and the collaborator in San Kazakgascar. For insight into the collaborative process of "Too Many People" check out this blog from Lather Records.
San Kazakgascar (Sacramento, California) seems to have the most staying power. This is the kind of music you can just put on and soak in. "Heart of Dusk" is my immediate favorite.
This release makes me think of the recent work of David Lance Callahan (without vocals). I've also referred to San Kazakgascar when discussing bands like Nausia and Savage Republic.

Excerpt from this story from the The Desert Sun:
High temperatures continue to scorch Californians across the state Friday.
Dozens of cities in Southern California reached 90 degrees and above just before 6 a.m., the National Weather Service San Diego posted on social media.
It comes amid days of excessive heat warnings plaguing regions throughout the state and at least one city breaking a heat record.
That unfortunate title goes to Indio, which reached 121 degrees on Sept. 5, beating its previous record by one degree set in 2020, according to the NWS San Diego.
The primary reason Californians have been suffering from heat is an upper-level ridge or an upper-level high-pressure system over Southern Nevada and Southern California, said Dave Munyan, a meteorologist with the NWS San Diego.
In simplified terms, these ridges allow air to collect and sink. Munyan explained that there is a relationship between pressure and temperature, and the air heats up as it compresses. Hotter weather is generally seen under these ridges, spanning multiple states.
The ridge started “really strengthening” Thursday and will continue through Friday and linger through the weekend. It has refused to weaken and move from our area, he said. It’s why people checking the weather forecasts for the week may have seen a slight uptick in their Sunday, even Monday, temperatures, Munyan said.
What is the weather right now?
High temperatures continue throughout California on Friday and through the weekend, bringing with it excessive heat warnings and other heat advisories. Here are just some of the triple-digit temperatures forecasted across the state, according to various NWS offices in California:
A portion of southwest California, including Santa Clarita, Thousand Oaks, Burbank, and East Los Angeles, is under an excessive heat warning through Monday evening, facing temperatures up to 115 degrees.
The Western San Fernando Valley remains under an excessive heat warning through Monday evening, with highs up to 118 degrees. The Inland Empire, also under an excessive heat warning through the same period, can see temperatures of 102 degrees or soar up to 114 degrees.
A portion of central California, including Bakersfield, Tulare, Merced, and Fresno, is under a heat advisory through Saturday evening. Temperatures will be between 102 and 107 degrees.
Sacramento, Redding, Stockton and other cities in the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley and surrounding foothills are under a heat advisory through Friday evening and will see temperatures between 100 and 109 degrees through Friday evening.
The Coachella Valley and San Diego County deserts are also under an excessive heat warning Friday, with highs between 112 degrees and 120 degrees forecasted.

Guarding the Straits
For 44 years the entrances to the Mare Island and Carquinez straits were guarded by the Mare Island Lighthouse. It was a combination 75-foot-high tower and two-story, Victorian-style home that was considered one of the most attractive lighthouses in the San Francisco Bay area.  For 35 of those years its keeper was Kate Coffee McDougal.  Kate’s husband Charles made an inspection trip up the California coast aboard a lighthouse tender in 1881. As he approached Cape Mendocino, Charles strapped on a money belt containing the keepers pay in gold coins and boarded a launch for his trip to shore. In a tragic moment, Charles drowned in the surf along with two other crewmembers when the launch passed through the breakers and capsized. In those times Kate McDougal would have been left to fend for herself, but inspector McDougal's friends in the Navy made sure that his family was looked after. One of those friends was none other than George Dewey, a classmate of Inspector McDougal at the Naval Academy and the future Spanish-American war hero. At the time George Dewey was the naval secretary of the lighthouse board and in a unique position of influence. He arranged for Kate to serve at Mare Island as the keeper of the Mare Island lighthouse.   She certainly must have learned to enjoy her life at the lighthouse, for she would remain its keeper until its use was discontinued in 1917 following the erection of a new lighthouse on the Vallejo side of the entrance to the Mare Island Straits.

LOTD: Mare Island
~sorry for delay - meant for October 21st, 2022~
(from: http://www.ibiblio.org/lighthouse/ca.htm)
Mare Island
(1873-1930s), Carquinez Strait, Vallejo. Anderson also discusses this lighthouse on his Carquinez Strait page. This was another Paul J. Pelz design, similar to the East Brother Island lighthouse. Located at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, the light was of limited use after the establishment of the Carquinez Strait lighthouse in 1910. It was abandoned and demolished sometime in the 1930s. Had my credentials been in order I would never have become a writer. Had I been blessed with even limited access to my own mind there would have been no reason to write. I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear. Why did the oil refineries around Carquinez Strait seem sinister to me in the summer of 1956? Why have the night lights in the Bevatron burned in my mind for twenty years? What is going on in these pictures in my mind?

Nautical Dining Room Decor
Embrace a nautical theme in your dining room without overwhelming the refined space. Keep the theme a subtle accent by using decorative accent pieces like striped throw pillows and coffee table books with sea-themed artwork.
How to Create Modern Coastal Look
Use a mix of textures to create a modern coastal look, such as white sheer curtains and rustic washed wood furniture. Then add a glass float inspired chandelier for an elegant finishing touch.
The dining room table is the heart of any nautical design. A rich navy blue backdrop highlights a sailor’s “woolies,” including a rare inlaid sailor-made box from the whaler Rose and a set of eighteenth-century Chinese export Nanking river scene vases. Among the accessories on display is a Federal mahogany server with a single drop-leaf, attributed to Jacob Forster of Charlestown, Massachusetts, and an early nineteenth-century American watercolor of a whaling scene. We can get beach style houses through well-known online sales sites such as property.jordlinghome.com.

Sailor Jack’s restaurant, located at the end of First Street and facing the Carquinez Strait, is one of Benicia’s most popular spots for al fresco dining with bay views. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the owners have erected a polycarbonate wall to protect patrons from the strong bay winds and increased outside seating from ten to thirty tables. In accordance with new health safety guidelines, employees wear masks and offer hand sanitizer to customers before they sit down. The outdoor tables are set around the 47-inch Sailor Teak table and four Avant stacking chairs.
Great Way Nautical Decoration
Nautical decor is a great way to add interest to a dining room. This style tends to be simple and refined and a bit less cluttered than some other themes. It often uses natural colors inspired by the sea - shades of blue that range from navy to sky and sandy neutrals. Natural elements like driftwood, rope and shells can be incorporated into a nautical decor theme to create a fun beachy look for any dining room.
Other colors that can work well in nautical design include crisp white and bright blues reminiscent of flags and signal flags. Striped patterns are a classic nautical decorating motif. These stripes can be in a variety of colors and styles but should be kept relatively narrow to avoid overwhelming the rest of the room.
Tumblr media
Other nautical dining room accessories that can be used to create a fun coastal theme include bowls of seashells, model ships, rope art and reclaimed wood items. Authentic ship hardware, piling lights and port holes also make for great nautical accent pieces.
Classic Nautical Dining Room Decoration
Classic navy blue stripes are an obvious choice for nautical dining room decor. However, you can also use a soft coral color to support your theme and create a fresh, seaside feel. Choose a striped rug or upholstered chairs to add a splash of unexpected color.
Natural fiber area rugs and beach-inspired prints work to establish the beachy theme. You can even find furniture emblazoned with shells, starfish, or turtles to give your room a subtle coastal look. When we want to buy a house we need to pay attention to the interior design it has.
Tumblr media
Framed ocean landscapes and a gallery wall of thrift store sea urchin sculptures drive home the beach theme in this modern dining room by Emily Henderson Design. The striped wallpaper offers contrast to the sleek wood table and leather chairs, modern lighting, and polished concrete flooring.

THE THANKSGIVING of GENOCIDAL DISGRACE. BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE.
Tumblr media
Whether you want to acknowledge it or not and say it was something else other than GENOCIDE what the Europeans did to the Native Americans turning it into a THANKSGIVING of GENOCIDAL DISGRACE, is up to you.

We can also say the same thing is happening to the Palestinian people by the Zionist backed by guilt rotten USA, the similarity seems like a genocidal carbon copy of Native Americans and Palestinians put back to back. Lets not forget the root causes, the British Empire relenting to their Bastard son USA. The proud Prime Minister of Britain of Hindu ascendancy is doing to the Palestinian what his British predecessors have done to the Hindu people, let alone the killing 165 million Hindus that the British murdered in the span of 40 years in India, no consciousness there, as the Zionist to the Palestinians as the Nazis to the Jews. there is no sympathy, are there, huh. In conclusion, we can say that we have the British to thank for this genocidal tendency by inheriting, apparently, their genes (genocidal mental genes or disease, call it what you want). Oh, and by association we can also say that the Zionist have been affected by this mental genocidal disease as well.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a 2007 American Western historical drama television film adapted from the 1970 book of the same name by Dee Brown. The film was written by Daniel Giat, directed by Yves Simoneau and produced by HBO Films.
The book on which the film is based is a history of Native Americans in the American West in the 1860s and 1870s, focusing upon the transition from traditional ways of living to living on reservations and their treatment during that period. The title of the film and the book is taken from a line in the Stephen Vincent Benét poem "American Names." It was shot in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

American Names
I have fallen in love with American names, The sharp names that never get fat, The snakeskin-titles of mining-claims, The plumed war-bonnet of Medicine Hat, Tucson and Deadwood and Lost Mule Flat.
Seine and Piave are silver spoons, But the spoonbowl-metal is thin and worn, There are English counties like hunting-tunes Played on the keys of a postboy’s horn, But I will remember where I was born.
I will remember Carquinez Straits, Little French Lick and Lundy’s Lane, The Yankee ships and the Yankee dates And the bullet-towns of Calamity Jane. I will remember Skunktown Plain.
I will fall in love with a Salem tree And a rawhide quirt from Santa Cruz, I will get me a bottle of Boston sea And a blue-gum nigger to sing me blues. I am tired of loving a foreign muse.
Rue des Martyrs and Bleeding-Heart-Yard, Senlis, Pisa, and Blindman’s Oast, It is a magic ghost you guard But I am sick for a newer ghost, Harrisburg, Spartanburg, Painted Post.
Henry and John were never so And Henry and John were always right? Granted, but when it was time to go And the tea and the laurels had stood all night, Did they never watch for Nantucket Light?
I shall not rest quiet in Montparnasse. I shall not lie easy at Winchelsea. You may bury my body in Sussex grass, You may bury my tongue at Champmédy. I shall not be there. I shall rise and pass. Bury my heart at Wounded Knee.

Rowing July 3
Weekend evening rows are special because often (Wednesdays and Thursdays) we see tons of sailboats with whom we share Carquinez Strait, which can sometimes be fun and daunting. It’s also warmer than usual on weekend mornings, as it should be in the summer months when we have far more daylight and can do evening rows.

Benicia Bridge Vista Point, CA (No. 1)
The Benicia–Martinez Bridge refers to three parallel bridges which cross the Carquinez Strait just west of Suisun Bay in California; the spans link Benicia on the north side with Martinez on the south.
The original 1.2-mile (1.9 km) deck truss bridge opened in 1962 to replace the last automotive ferry service in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 1962 bridge has seven 528-foot (161 m) spans and 138 feet (42 m) of vertical clearance, now carrying four lanes of southbound traffic, as well as a path for pedestrians and bicyclists. It was named the George Miller Jr., Memorial Bridge in 1975 after California state legislator George Miller Jr. A 1.7-mile (2.7 km) bridge was built alongside and opened on August 25, 2007 with five lanes of northbound traffic. In 2007, it was named the Congressman George Miller Benicia–Martinez Bridge after U.S. Congressman George Miller, Miller Jr.'s son. The cost of the 1962 span was US$25 million and US$1.3 billion for the 2007 span. (Adjusted for inflation, equivalent to $252 million and $1.91 billion respectively.) The bridge is part of Interstate 680, a major transportation link connecting other heavily traveled freeways.
Between the two vehicle bridges is a Union Pacific Railroad bridge, the first bridge at this location, built between April 1929 and October 1930 by Southern Pacific. It is used by Union Pacific and BNSF (trackage rights) freight trains and 36 scheduled Amtrak passenger trains each weekday. Passenger trains include the long-distance trains California Zephyr and Coast Starlight and commuter-oriented Capitol Corridor services.

maybe peace is
sol, purring under my palm after waiting until i had settled into bed to settle in by my side, and
the fan blowing air across the hair on my exposed leg, and
five (or six?) blows of the train horn, traveling across the carquinez strait, through the gathering closeness of a moonless night in the beginning of the year, into my window, and
maybe that is enough.

Mare Island Light House
The first lighthouse to mark the entrance to Carquinez Strait was built at the southern end of Mare Island in 1873. For most of its years of operation, the Mare Island Lighthouse was kept by Kate McDougal. Kate’s husband, Charles McDougal, was the son of the Mare Island’s third commandant (Captain D. McDougal 3/15/1861 – 6-5-1861) and served as an inspector for the Lighthouse Service. In 1881, Charles inspected California lighthouses aboard a lighthouse tender. As he approached Cape Mendocino, Charles strapped on a money belt containing the keepers pay in gold coins and boarded a launch for his trip to shore. In a tragic moment, Charles and two other crewmembers drowned when the launch capsized in the breakers along the beach.
He arranged for Kate to serve at Mare Island as the keeper of the Mare Island lighthouse when Mrs. Watson, the prior keeper, resigned soon after Charles McDougal’s unfortunate death. For her first Christmas at the station, the naval officers from Mare Island strung a telephone line from the Navy Yard out to the lighthouse. This helped ease some of the loneliness Kate initially experienced at the station. She certainly must have learned to enjoy her life at the lighthouse, for she would remain its keeper until it was discontinued in 1917 35 years later.  As the keeper she had to maintain and daily light the oil lamp in the Fresnel lens, crank up a 200lb weight that rotated the lens through a clockwork mechanism, similarly she had to maintain the fog-bell and machinery which was also powered by a heavy weight that was required to be cranked up daily.  In addition to these duties she had to maintain the station, keep the coal stove working and maintain the cisterns that were used for drinking water.

Ray Lotto's El Raton was the third place Express 27. "And Rocket's a lot of work." Thirteen Express 27s raced, and Get Happy!! passed Magic Bus in the last few miles to win the division. This year they took Brendan's Express 27 Get Happy!! "I like one design racing," he said. ©2014 īrendan Busch and Ian Klitza sailed the D-Class Cat Rocket 88 the last three years. They finished second out of six Wabbits behind Aaron Sturm's Wild Bunch. This year, the wind softened at the Benicia Bridge and remained mellow the rest of the way.Ĭolin Moore's Kwazy Wabbit along the lazy river. The Extreme 40 SmartRecruiters flies a hull in San Pablo Bay. These are Magic, Don Quixote and Mistress Quickly, all from Santa Cruz YC. The Santa Cruz 27s eked out a one design division at the last minute with six boats. Nothing to do with the drought, just insufficient depth on a minus tide on the east side of San Pablo Bay. The J/35 Jarlen was the first victim of the water shortage. The first division, Light 1, starts popping chutes right away. The NOE flags were for Noe Goodman, who fell in the water and drowned at Stockton Sailing Club following last year's race. Saturday morning at the Richmond YC docks. The current was shifting from ebb to flood as the divisions started north of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, and stayed with the fleet the whole way to Stockton. Many boats were even able to carry past Mark 19 in the usual 'white sail reach' portion of the San Joaquin River. The wind direction cooperated, with spinnakers going up at the start and staying up. The weather was warm but not blazing hot as in some years, with temps peaking in the 80s. A light air year, there was plenty of time for telling jokes, flirting, and quaffing cold beverages out of cans. We’re laughing all the way to the river bankīrad Paisley could have sung those lyrics for this year's Delta Ditch Run, saving the inner tube for Sunday. It ain’t like we really need a million dollar yacht, 'causeīut we have got each other and gas in the tank You know even if our ship came in and this is all we got The normally nukin' New York slough was relatively tame for Saturday's Delta Ditch Run.
