How to create svg icons online for free?
Free SVG icons are a powerful and smart means of communicating your ideas across audiences. Knowing that it would simply up the effect of your creation, these magic shapes are just so hard to overlook.
Graphic designers are often found to experiment with an array of methods for using icons on their websites, applications, and other digital content. Lately, the use of non-standard fonts has also gained tremendous popularity amongst designers. However, there has been a hullabaloo on the Internet over what’s better, icon fonts, or free SVG icons?

What’s Better- Icon Fonts Or Free Svg Icons?
Although icon fonts are highly customizable with its standard CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) styling rules over image icons, their designing is quite limited to monochromatic colors, size, standard transforms, and animations, They can also turn out to be glitchy, leading to the generation of multiple server requests. Additionally, your browser’s expected failure to identify the icon font can show up a blank space instead of fonts themselves.
On the other hand, SVG is a bundle of XML code rather than an image or a font. This makes them reasonably sized, highly performant, and scalable. Plus, they can undergo modifications without losing quality as opposed to icon fonts. You can also edit, color, or animate each individual bit of an SVG icon, unlike the conventional icon font.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) refers to a vector image format that can be encoded with the help of Extensible Markup Language (XML) syntax. It is a scalable image that is created with a series of coordinates. It is directly linked within a browser, adding further to its scalability.
Guide on how to create SVG icons .
Let us understand how to create SVG icons. Here is much that you need to know for creating free SVG icons.
Drawing Icons
The first step to creating your own free SVG icon is to sketch them out. Draw each design on a distinct artboard and save each of them in a separate file. Now, open the vector design program of your choice. A vector image program entails drawing icons with the help of different colors, shapes, and path administration on a virtual drawing board. Following this, you export the .svg file, and the coding will take place behind the scene.
Affinity Designer, Inkscape, Sketch, DesignEvo., Vecteezy, CorelDRAW, and Vectr are some of the popularly used vector image programs. Alternatively, you can consider trying the readily available free SVG icons download on free vector icon websites out there.
Understand The Artboards
The artboard size won’t be a matter of concern if it’s a single icon. You will just need to ensure that it has a decent size, meaning neither too large nor too small. However, if you are seeking to create a uniform icon set, your artboards should be of the same size.
Draw Over A Grid
Consider drawing the icons over a grid so they turn out as symmetrical as possible. Also, use a square Artboard and customizable stroke size for maximum efficiency. If you are creating a mono-colored icon, it would be best to set your design tool to solid black. Do not worry, as it can be easily changed in the application or the stylesheet to your desired color.
Keep Shapes Simple
While creating free SVG icons, make sure that the vector shapes are simple. It will bring out a simpler SVG code that loads in the blink of an eye and is least susceptible to show-up errors. Cut out the unnecessary points. For instance, a circle must need not more than four-vector points. Anything more than that can easily invite technical fuss.
It is also essential to know that SVG images are based on universal shapes which can be created virtually by employing numbers and coordinates. The seven main shapes include line, path, circle, ellipse, polygon, and polyline. In terms, each shape is denoted as <circle>, <line>, and so on.
Layer Them Right
Consolidate shapes and layer them over one another to generate versatile imagery. Transform any grouped layers, circles, or ellipses to aggravate paths. This will assist you in creating free SVG icons with small file sizes and make sure that their quality remains intact across different channels.
You can reshuffle the artboards, retitle them, and export them as SVG files. Now, start creating a new Illustrator document with a resolution of 64x64px.

And So, Humans Were.
This is the Official Quantum Oscillation Broadcast announcing the statistical and functional extinction of the Humans of the Human’s Earth, the third planet of Helios, the white colored yellow-dwarf G2V star. They were two inter-compatible and near-indistinguishable minor variants of the same species, Homo sapiens sapiens, with some calling the most recent, 7,000-local-year old varietal Homo sapiens clara capillum, to denote the brighter and paler colored skin and hair features present in the recent semi-Neandertal hybrid colloquially known as “white people” and/or Europeans.
The species in total peaked at a local population of 10 billion semi-civilized persons, with the majority of them living in semi-poverty under limited tyrannical rulers kept in check by each other, and an overarching and vastly complex network of both bureaucracies and plutocracies. This peak occurred, according to one of their calendars, in June 2081, shortly after which, societies started to collapse as Peak Water issues became widespread planet-wide, followed by further rapid drops in planetary diatomic oxygen (O 2) levels in the atmosphere from 18 percent downward, due to the extinction of oceanic photosynthesis in in the entire ocean mass, not just the largest local one, called the Pacific, in February 2029. The decay of the planetary atmosphere wavered erratically for local decades afterward as the modal intellect of the species became severely unstable due to both oxygen deprivation and the inability of Artificially Intelligent networks to anticipate and keep up with the needs of civil society.
Earth itself became ecosystemically incompatible with all chordate life possessing a spinal column, supported or not, by the local year 2105, in late March.
A scattered, and isolated few Homo sapiens sapiens still live in various outposts in space, still supported by various Foreclosed Species Protection organizations. Their total numbers are less than 2,000, and are located on micro-cities on the Earth’s major satellite, the fourth planet Mars, and a major moon of the sixth planet Saturn, called Titan. The majority of the remainder humans are approaching their non-reproductive elderly years and their health is not aided in the slightest by legacy syndromes present due to microgravity and exposures to ionizing radiation. They are largely unfit to have children in any environment. In particular the women of the feminist mono-culture of Titan seriously do NOT get along with the male-dominated cultures of Mars and the Moon. The citizens of Titan, or Titanias, seriously don’t get along with much of anyone, and scarcely tolerate each other.
Under most circumstances you would be best served, as a citizen and person of the Greater Cosmic Republic, to minimize contact with the remainder of Homo sapiens sapiens, but to also treat them with decency and respect. Their future is foreclosed by their own hand and they know it. DO NOT remind them. DO NOT mock them. Each one of them has launch codes for at least one medium tier triple-alpha particle fusion cascade missile as well as access to several dozen hit-to-kill projectile weapons, both ship and person-based. They are resentful and quite capable of murder. Leave them be where possible. Let them die with some comfort and dignity, whatever traces of it they may find.
And understand that there but for the grace of your gods, go you.

127: Chris Waddell: American Paralympic Sit-Skier and Wheelchair Track Athlete, and Founder of One Revolution shares how he went from being paralysed from the waist and found his summit of inner strength and determination to win 13 Paralympic medals.
Chris Waddell
Chris Waddell, who grew up in Western Massachusetts, an hour and a half from Boston, experienced his life-changing accident while ski racing with his brother while on break from Middlebury College. Chris said that, ‘In the middle of a turn, my ski popped off. It was as freak as things go. There was no reason. It was a warm day. It was soft. I fell in the middle of the trail. I didn't hit anything but the ground. But whatever I did, I must have done it in a weird way. So I broke two vertebrae, damaged the spinal cord. I don’t remember anything after losing my ski.’ Learn how Chris Waddell went from this traumatic injury to earning 13 Paralympic medals as well as getting inducted into the Paralympic Hall of Fame.
On this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, we talk with Chris Waddell, American Paralympic Sit-Skier and Wheelchair Track Athlete, and Founder of One Revolution. The chat takes place in Squaw Valley during the Spartan World Championships Media Fest. Chris was parlyized in college from the waist down, and currently gets around in a wheelchair. “Actually when I was leaving the hospital the doctor called me into his office and he said, ‘You are not ready to leave because you haven’t been depressed,’ which is perplexing. But he was worried that I was in denial. For me, I was like, I will be depressed later. But right now, I need all my energy going into getting better. It was the most powerful I have ever been.”
What You Will Learn:
One key thing that radiates from Chris Waddell is that he has a positive bright outlook on life. “Goals are easy to set when everything is going great. What really becomes challenging and meaningful is when everything is against you.” How did he change to such a strong mindset? With his body losing weight and not being able to be independently mobile, he became mentally strong to realize what is possible and maintain hope to give his body the best opportunity to heal.
“The first thing I needed to accomplish? Wow. The first thing was getting out of bed. Getting into the wheelchair.” He had to learn a process from a nurse to get himself up by putting his hands in his pockets and using his elbows. After being bed-ridden for such an extensive time, his weight had dropped down to about 125 pounds at this point.
What did it take to have the courage to get back out skiing and learning to do so with one ski? Seeing a woman who was a one-legged skier was a great model for what was possible. He accepted an offer from a friend to be in a documentary about adaptive skiing. Friends of Middlebury Skiing bought Chris his first monoski. “I wanted to do things that were impossible. I wanted to stretch their imaginations.”
Aside from have extremely supportive parents that helped to provide him strength, Chris Waddell’s Middlebury coach was a huge mentor that never gave up on him, and told Chris why he was so abiment to assist him, “There are times that you just want to do the right thing. There are times in your life where you are required to do the right thing, and this was the right thing to do.”
How was Chris Waddell subsidizing his life during this period? “Back then, it was a matter of getting sponsors. I was lucky. I had some sponsors that came onboard. Swissy Army, a friend of mine’s father was the owner of Swiss Army of watches and knives and stuff like that.” Chris Waddell never got paid to train and compete directly. But he also got a $2000 sponsorship from Kodak and had to live from couch to couch while he competed. He got paid to tell his story.
The Leap to the Paralympics
“There are three classes of mono skiers and I was in the most disabled of the three. So, to basically have the muscles right underneath the sternum, corresponding muscles on the back. So not a lot of torso balance. There were guys in the other classes that were double amputees that had the muscles all the way down to their knees.” Chris was committed to beat these other guys, even when he was told that it would never happen. In Lillehammer, Norway during the 1994 Winter paralympics, Chris Waddell beat all of the mono skiers in the world in the down-hill race.
Climbing Kilimanjaro in a Wheelchair
During this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, Chris Waddell also talks about how on September 30th, 2009 he became the first paraplegic to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He also named the 2010 Shining Star of Perseverance Honoree by the WillReturn Council how honor those who overcome disabilities to succeed in the workplace and society. Also, hear all about his organization “One Revolution” that aims to create positive change through the use of “Nametags” that define oneself.

The following screenshot shows an example of the Cascadia Code font, where the same series of characters shown previously are now converted to coding ligatures, or glyphs. The following screenshot shows an example of the default Cascadia Mono font and lists a series of characters, to include mathematical symbols, that you might find yourself using while you code. Coding ligatures, or glyphs, make it easier for people to cognitively associate the meaning behind them. Not only are both of these fonts easier to read, but the Cascadia Code font also includes coding ligatures that turn a sequence of characters into a glyph. The new Cascadia Code font includes Cascade Mono, which is the default font in Visual Studio 2022. Throughout the finite expanse of Eternity, a kaleidoscopic main of hues and tints illuminated the endless play of memories and events that’d come to pass, were currently and had yet to be. But these plays transpired within the confines of each dimensional commune, trapped and destined to forever retell and depict and portend all possibility of a given dimension. Yet the colors remained. And said shades danced across the innumerable iridescent pearls brimming within each pillar of potentiality. Each like a mote of probability, delicate vessels of creation’s capacity for finite infinity. Within, an unending litany of outcomes and results begetting parallel instances of being differing from one another by an iota with every divergence, thus making the twenty-third incredibly different yet still similar to the 3,432,129th.
It then stands to reason that, due to Eternity’s incredulous probability, a pearl or even a dimension as a whole shall spawn something that would interfere with, nay, risk the continuation of creation’s existence.
A true statement--errors, hiccups in the Code woven by Eternity, begot ግጭት መቀላቀል which threatened the sanctity of the cell occur with steady frequency.
An unfortunate fact of being.
But through meticulous efforts and processes beyond the finite’s magnitude of understanding, the entity tasked with the cell’s protection nipped said problems in the bud. Yet some were allowed to exist due to their nature not exceeding that ruinous threshold. Or perhaps it was because certain columns of potentiality were fabricated by the entity itself in an effort to test what was and wasn’t possible? Maybe their existence in of itself was to be as what one might constitute as erroneous and as such were, in fact, not acting out and instead acted just as intended?
Some things transcended comprehension as a whole.
Some things were out of reach when attempts to name or bequeath meaning or an inkling of clarity to were made.
None could come to grips with the unknowable aside from the unknowable, and as such, none could predict that entity above all others’ course of action.
There’s a momentary idleness that sweeps across the Collective in a singular wave that disturbs the eternal congregation’s goings-on wherever it passed over, only to give way to the continuation of the norm in its wake. Redirection of a fraction of its attention. In an instant, the entity known by few knew what it knew. Though this isn’t to say said information was forgotten, just set aside in favor of the big picture. What you or I might understand as memory was selective for this echelon of being--all dependent on whether employing more than an insubstantial modicum of fathomless apprehension to monitor a specific point of interest in the abstract amalgamation could be justified. So in regarding this whiplash of effect’s cause, the entity knew what it knew, what it needed, what it always, what it’d shunted to the side.
A shift and the prior focal point flicks from one column to another, one that undulated and writhed in a manner akin to how a pool of worms struggles to achieve locomotion. Countless abyssal tethers stretched from between the incredulous reaches of what you and I might understand as the ceiling and floor of the cell. They bowed and bent in ways unnatural even for them, arrested by contractions and extensions like some dying animal wracked with labored breath. Each decrying their contents’ actions in the frequency only the entity and Collective could perceive.
Something of a limb manifests from the immense presence of the entity, a spindly appendage of tar and possibility urged into semi-definite shape so as to produce four pronged articulation hooks. It extends so as to wedge the prongs of what might be construed as fingers before said digits became rigid rods disrupting the seamless canvas of the pillar. They detach so as to begin parting the threads, but do not assume this means they were appended to whatever could pass for a hand. Nay, it’s more accurate to say they were loosely anchored to a point in which the entity deemed fit and this happened to resemble how you or I might consider to be normal for such protrusions to be on what we could only assume to be a palm. And, no longer needing to remain as such, the digits adjusted so as to allow a fragment of the beyond immense presence of the entity to pass through and manifest within the dimension.
It did so in a manner that befit necessity, fulfilled the purpose of its visitation to the pillar’s denizens. No longer an incredulous concentration of peerless presence, the abyssal essence of the Collective surged up in great spouts that whirled and curved to fill out the outline presented to it. Similar to a grand weave, the immense threads of the quintessence spun together and became interwoven as convoluted shapes seen in countless realities. And as such, that which constructed its form had a perpetual animation about it--much like a collection of threads and strings being waved endlessly. There were many angles and curves as a representation of a torso manifested around an impossible vascular organ of stark white, turning said visceral core as black as the void from innumerable threads layering and layering, from binding and binding, wrapping and wrapping. Then, as per the nature of the dimension, a vortex like the ever yawning mouth of a black hole spread out from where the lower torso might connect .
Several lengths then ran out along both sides to tether what we might know as arms to the rest of the body, cylinders and angles and curves which led up to what we might recognize as four-digit hands that more resembled the claws of a crane rather than actual fingers.
And what we might understand as a head manifested around the stark incandescent ocular organ, an angular ovoid of boggling size with a feline streak of black as the pupil. It formed as a circle, at first, before the edges oozed out and wove together to form articulate appendages akin to those of an Octopoda.
Then, once manifestations ceased to come into being, the waves of the vortex culminated beneath the three dimensional shape flared out until there was a flash of light. Physics bent the knee to the entity’s will, contorting under the strain until something gave. Stars erupted in discordant expansions and planets were knocked out of orbit as the gravity wells holding them in place were disturbed. Everything reverberated as an intangible deluge of presence cascaded across the cosmos. They quavered with anticipation for the next command, for their progenitor’s call, wrapped around its finger in a way that only things with a subconscious desire to return to and be whole could. Yet nothing was permitted to approach like a gravitational anomaly designed to repel rather than draw in.
Countless eyes shifted in sync with the pupil of the entity’s ocular organ, gaze cast towards the boundless horizon of space. Billions of insignificant lights like smoldering embers dotted the abyssal void. Gaseous clouds of matter tinged the black with a multitude of vehement hues. Its foremost upper limb swayed and rotated until what passed for a hand could gesture to the exponential pinprick of color its mono-optic focused upon.
Digits then curled as the palm extended out, innumerable threads of its own essence spooling out from all four fingertips. They undulate and cross the distance before spinning together, weaving a hominid form with which to hover in place like a single celled organism. A twitch and its facial region ruptured, fissures dividing the forward region of the head before said divisions burst and became fragments. Then they halted but several inches away, caught in place, before new animation caused them to rotate like independent gyroscopes where they’d been pinned to. One side was as black as the material they were woven from, while the opposite mirrored the all-hue iridescent coloration of the Collective. Meanwhile, the crater left of the face was filled by a gravitational vortex of stardust and miniaturized stars.
Once woven, all four digits of the entity extended to propel their creation.
And like that, the manifestation was placed upon the speck of dirt known as Earth to its inhabitants, aimed towards a certain structure in a specific region of a particular country. There the manifestation would find the target of concern, Sysyphyx, the many faced deceiver.
It’d touchdown upon the planet and apparate within the confines of the mask wearer’s false residence, a cataclysmic event that’d sunder the roof and splinter the floorboards its limbs connected with. Yet there’d be no impact as one would associate with something physical like a meteor. Rather when it breached the atmosphere, all color drained away in its wake. Everything bereft of such light froze in place, caught in the moment they’d been affected. But this isn’t to say there was a moment where one person or thing was unaffected while another was. No, everything was afflicted with this monochrome stasis simultaneously. And once the manifestation towered before the deceiver, time came to an absolute standstill--all but she would be affected.
Then it’d direct the lack of a visage towards the horseman, silent for a long moment before a voice like a monotone chorus compressed into one voice broke the quiet.
“You are to desist.”

How To Create Your Own Free SVG Icons
Free SVG icons are a powerful and smart means of communicating your ideas across audiences. Knowing that it would simply up the effect of your creation, these magic shapes are just so hard to overlook. Graphic designers are often found to experiment with an array of methods for using icons on their websites, applications, and other digital content.

Now that you have a good chunk of reasons to use SVG icons, let us understand how to create your own free SVG icons.
Layer Them Right
Consolidate shapes and layer them over one another to generate versatile imagery. Transform any grouped layers, circles, or ellipses to aggravate paths. This will assist you in creating free SVG icons with small file sizes and make sure that their quality remains intact across different channels.
Add ID Tags
If your icons are ready, you are good to export and optimize them in SVG format. Once done, open the files in a code editor and assign a distinct ID tag to each SVG tag.
Using The ‘<img>’ Tag
One of the most common ways of using the SVG file icons in your design is by using the <img> tag. For example, <img src=”alert.SVG” alt=”Alert” width= “125”>. It allows you to customize the size of the image. However, one significant drawback is that you cannot do a thing about the color.
Enhancing The ‘<img>’ Tag
You can enhance the img tag with the help of fragment identifiers. These are embedded SVG properties. You can refer to an SVG component with the help of an SVG view specification. For example, <img src=”svg_file.svg#svgView(viewBox(a,b,w,h))”>
How To Insert Free Svg Icon Files
SVG images are a piece of cake to integrate into your web design. You may choose to either upload icons, the SVG code, or the SVG editor can be used to create a new SVG icon. For encoding an SVG with the help of a <img> component, you simply need to link it in the src attribute. You will also require a height or a width attribute, or both in certain cases to achieve an effective integration.
Editing Free Svg Icons
A modifiable SVG refers to the use of SVGs in HTML documents with their code embedded directly in the document rather than importing them from a file. These are created by employing tags such as <svg> </svg>.

So, as you will already know if you follow me on Instagram, last week I was invited to celebrate relaunch of Issa at House of Fraser. The venue was Kensington Palace which, of course, is where William, Kate and Harry all live. It was an especially auspicious time to go there because it was the day that Kate’s third pregnancy was announced. Our event was in the Orangery but I couldn’t help looking across at the Palace and feeling sorry for her. She’s obviously suffering again and despite the help she has at hand, it isn’t easy when you have pre-schoolers who want their mum regardless of their royal standing. However I digress…
Why does the relaunch of Issa at House of Fraser matter?
Issa was the label of the noughties. Known for its supremely flattering cut, its customer list included Madonna (who apparently bought in bulk), Kylie, Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johanssen and Keira Knightly. The high point of course (and the connection with Kensington Palace) was when Kate Middleton wore that blue Issa dress for the royal engagement announcement in 2010.
You’d think that this would have been the answer to every brand’s prayer but, demand was suddenly so high that a small label like Issa couldn’t finance the production which meant that ultimately, it imploded. Until now that is. House of Fraser has come to the rescue, acquiring the brand as well as an archive of designs.
The dresses have been relaunched in a slightly more affordable jersey blend than the originals. However it still retains the silky drape that makes it feel a few steps up from ordinary jersey. I would say that the prices are reasonable – they sit within the Boden tier. And, good news for non-UK readers, Issa is available for international delivery at a very reasonable price (details here).
An evening at Kensington Palace
So, as I have already said, last Monday night was the official launch. Most of the guests were fashion journalists and bloggers so as you can imagine, it was a glam event. Fortunately quite a few of us had been sent Issa dresses to wear which overcame the dress code headache. I had three to choose from but I decided on this green one for two reasons – it’s a colour that I don’t usually wear and also, it was the least heavy of the three which made it easier to carry around London with me.
I styled it with black accessories and added asymmetric earrings for a touch of evening glamour (if I don’t look quite myself it’s because I went to a Charlotte Tilbury store to have my make-up done and they gave me quite a heavy look).

To my joy, Avril from ALifeToStyle was also invited so we met up beforehand to take some quick photos. Here we are together and I must remember not to have my photo taken with her again. She makes me look ‘big boned’ as my grandma would have said!
The reason that we were keen to be quick was because we could see these three chaps bearing glasses of chilled champagne.
It was a good idea to have so many people wearing Issa because it showcased just how versatile the dresses are, regardless of your age, style or size…

I just wanted to show you how beautiful the table looked with a rainbow of colour down the centre.
And here we are having dinner. I look terribly serious but I can assure you that Lucinda from TheLondonMummy and I were having a really interesting conversation!
So, that was Kensington Palace. As good things do, it went in a whirl and when it finished, Avril and I sashayed back to the bar at my hotel for a bit of a wine-soaked chat. When I urged you to follow her last time, a few of you got in touch to say her RSS feed wasn’t working. She’s fixed it now so do follow her blog. As I said before, if you like mine, you’ll like hers. We have a lot in common.
My interpretation of Issa
As you’ve seen from the pictures of different people wearing it, Issa can be different things to different women. I veered away from pattern towards the solid colours and it seems a shame not to show you all three dresses. Sadly there are no more invitations to the Palace pending so I had to recreate the surroundings at a local castle.
Wearing Issa for daytime
The first thing I want to point out is that you can easily wear the simple Kate style dresses for work or a daytime event. So here’s the green dress again but this time I’m wearing it as I would for a meeting.

One of the things I like about it is that it skims rather than clings…

… and the drapes are kind to your midriff. There is also sufficient fabric so that it doesn’t ride up your thigh when you sit down – a particular bugbear of mine with anything fitted as you know.

The Issa LBD
This little black dress has a defined waist with a wraparound belt which gives it a point of difference but also cleverly disguises any less toned areas. It is also available in lime.

It is called the Kate and is a similar style to her engagement dress but it has a more fitted skirt which I prefer.

It passes my sitting down test too. It’s the sort of dress that you have in your wardrobe for years and years, pulling it out for dinners, weddings (I like the contrast of black at a wedding), meetings with the accountant, or, of course funerals. You will always look polished wearing a dress like this.
How to ensure that classic dresses stand the test of time
The important thing to remember with classic dresses is to keep your accessories updated. Whereas last year I might have worn this dress with a block heel, this year I’ve chosen embellished satin stilettos.
Kate dress; Shoes; Clutch (coming soon to Midlifechic); Earrings
I’ve added an accent of one of the season’s key colours, yellow gold, at three different sight lines: my earrings, clutch and shoes. By updating your accessories you are, of course, benefitting from the ‘cost per wear’ theory because you can use them to update everything else in your wardrobe too.

A completely different evening look
So here I am feeling like a true chatelaine (either that or a blue version of the dancing emoji 💃)! I always find party dresses difficult to track down, especially because my dressed up events tend to be more corporate than social. So often dresses are too short, too tight, too low cut or a mix of all three. This one is much kinder, just revealing arms and a hint of leg when you move.
Bella ruffle front dress; Jewelled shoes; Clutch (coming soon to Midlifechic)
It is weighted so that as you turn, it swirls around your legs. This means that it only exposes the full height of the slit when you twirl like this…

…the rest of the time it cascades softly. For added panache, there is keyhole detailing at the back.

It really does look as though we’re shooting in Provence doesn’t it. In fact it was chilly Cumbria and I was sitting here sheltering from the rain. Plus ça change…

So – there you have it – Issa. The new first port of call for dresses I would say. The best thing is to order them and try them on, you’ll be surprised at what they do for you. They have had so much press attention that quite a few styles have sold out. However new designs are arriving – here are two new favourites that I’ve just spotted:
If you like my blue ruffle dress but prefer your legs and arms to have a little more coverage, this one’s for you. With this season’s midi trend you could wear this for daytime as well as evening:

And if you’re a pear, the sleeves on this one will balance you out, whilst still revealing a tantalising glimpse of flesh at the shoulders (also available in black).

Issa Accessories
There’s a wide range of Issa clutch bags to go with the dresses that would work well for a ‘jeans and heels’ outfit too. They’re reasonably priced and have the option of a chain strap inside if you prefer to carry them on your shoulder.

Thoughts about House of Fraser
It’s great that House of Fraser has rescued Issa. In my view, they are a department store to watch. As you may know, they were bought by new owners in 2014 after a decade of neglect. A masterplan has been developed for the group which focuses on putting the excitement back into shopping – ‘shopping as theatre’ as we used to call it at Selfridges.
Now that online shopping accounts for so many sales, it seems more than ever to be the right direction for bricks and mortar department stores to take. This, along with significant investment in some long overdue store refurbishments, work on the website and the new brands should mean that we will soon notice a difference.
They certainly seem to have defined their target customer who, in a nutshell, is most of us. The time-pressed woman over 40 who is looking for unique brands and wants shopping to be more of an engaging experience than just a trudge round the shops. It’s interesting to see that in addition to their in-house brands such as Issa and Biba, House of Fraser also have some unusual Scandi and Parisian boutique brands in their “Brand Spotlight” department. Amongst them are Samsoe & Samsoe, Sessun and Maison Scotch.
I’m hoping that House of Fraser will carve a unique position for itself on the UK high street – as a store that brings back the glitz and glamour of the department stores of old. Time will tell – but with the rescue of Issa they certainly seem to be off to a good start.
Disclosure: the ‘relaunch of Issa at House of Fraser’ was commissioned by House of Fraser who wanted to introduce Issa to Midlifechic readers. However they had no input into what was included or the angle I would take on the post. As always, the words and interpretations are my own.
