The Desert Island Game by Cat Voleur
The world has ended. Now what?
When Bea wakes to discover she and her lover, Evian, are still alive after the apocalypse, things seem too good to be true. Soon, she begins to suspect they are. The more concerns she voices about their survival on an island paradise, the easier their lives become. Her attempts to ask questions are met by disinterest and anger from her partner.
Why can she not remember key details about her life before coming to the island? Why is she seeing and hearing things that aren’t there? How well does she really know Evian?
As suspicion and distrust continue to mount, Bea realizes the apocalypse was the least of her worries. But is there a way off the island, and is paradise really Hell?

Philabundance distributes food throughout nine counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. Learn more about their work here. Submission window March 1st – March 31st 2024. Marginalized authors are invited to submit for an additional week, though April 7, 2024. Wordcount 500 – 5,000 words Preferred word count is in the 2-4k range, but we’ll be considering longer stories and flash fiction if you can sell us on the piece. Payment will be our eternal gratitude and a contributors copy (softcover and ebook). The Cause Tasteful is being created in the hopes of raising funds and awareness for local food shelters. While we’ll be running promotions to support various local food banks, the profits we make from sales will all be donated to Philabundance. You can read more about their good work here. What we’re seeking Curators Cassandra Daucus, Iseult Murphy, and Cat Voleur are looking for literary tales of cannibalism. We seek stories that have a focus on beautiful prose, unsettling metaphors, and transcendent themes. If you can make us question our morals or keep us up at night craving flesh, we’re interested in your work. Finally, we want stories that “punch up”, not ones that “punch down.” While we appreciate both gore and sex, we are not interested in extremes for the sake of shock value. Please don’t send We will reject any offensive materials such as those containing racism, sexism, or any kind of bigotry. We are not seeking stories with graphic depictions of violent rape (though stories with “problematic consent” shall be considered.) Absolutely NO AI submissions. Reprints? Yes, we’ll consider reprints. Simultaneous Submissions? We are happy to consider simultaneous submissions but please let us know as soon as your story gets accepted elsewhere so we can congratulate you. Multiple Submissions? We’re happy to read more than one story from a single author but keep in mind that we’ll only be publishing one piece per author. Invited Authors? YES we have some amazing authors who have already agreed to contribute stories to the anthology! We’ll be sharing their names leading up to the March 1 submission opening date. Keep your eyes peeled! More information We would love to see some new writers submitting, as well as some inventive formatting. Please send us epistolary and other experimental forms of flesh-eating fiction! Formatting Guidelines We’re not going to be too picky about your formatting, as long as the submission is legible. We do ask that you send your submission as a .doc or .docx attachment with your submission email. Submitting Send an email to [email protected] Subject title should read: TASTEFUL SUBMISSION, [STORY TITLE], [AUTHOR’S NAME] Don’t stress too much about the cover letter. Do include whatever name you publish under (we don’t need a legal name until it’s contract time), a short bio, publication history (if relevant) and a list of trigger warnings for our readers. (TW: Rape, Suicide, Animal Death, etc.) Estimated Response Time We will not be making final decisions until after the submission window closes. Response time may vary depending on the number of submissions we receive. Rights Requested We are requesting First Worldwide Publication Rights, exclusive for 6 months, with an exception made for accepted reprints. Via: Tasteful Anthology.

Volure Voleur! The only Cat "Volure" of his race. The race is named after him for being the only one of his kind. Volure takes a long time to warm up to people, but those who earned his trust will also get his undying loyalty. Being unable to figure out what he wants to do, he's become a jack of all trades, master of none. Wherever Winter goes, Volure's always nearby, being the brains and support for her.

Character pair time!
To the left we have Volure Voleur, the only known Catboy in the Onkal world, and a transmasc one at that. He's a shut in and doesn't like talking to new people. He's easily annoyed and can be grumbly, but once befriended, he's sweet, caring and incredibly loyal. He'll do anything to make sure you're okay. He cant decide on what he wants to be, so he eagerly indulges in hobby after hobby. A master of all trades, but master of none. Despite this, Volure usually knows *just* enough to come in handy often.
Then to Volures side is Winter Halamari. She's a go getting girl who loves to help others. She's always on the run to help anyone in need. Reckless and impulsive, she can sometimes run headfirst into danger with her mighty hammer, and come out bruised and battered, but successful. She has a heart of gold and is known to many residents of her home on Olive island as someone you can always depend on. If you ever want help, she's always just one yell away. Despite her kindness and eagerness to help, at rare points, she can be cruel and condescending, though she always snaps out of these strange trances, and ends up apologizing immediately. Rumors talk about her being a daughter of a tyrant.

thank u @minuutti for the tag <3 (finally getting around to it :D)
what book are you currently reading?
I'm still reading Moby Dick even though I started it months ago, simply because I unintentionally took a big break from it at one point (and read a few other books). also reading Agir et Penser Comme Un Chat by Stéphane Garnier and Le Voleur d'ombres by Marc Levy.
what’s your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year?
I went to the cinema a few weeks ago for the first time in over 4 or 5yrs. therefore, the only movie I've seen in theatres in all these years is the new Mario movie so that's my pick by default (it was fun though).
what do you usually wear?
jeans, shirt. + a hoodie if it's cold.
how tall are you?
175cm/5'9
what’s your star sign? do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
cancer! my 11th birthday was the day Michael Jackson passed away and I remember how depressing that was.
do you go by your name or a nickname?
just my name, it's too short to nickname. some friends try to give me nicknames but they almost always end up longer or the same length as my name lol
did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
I think so yes, I don't see how it could've gone any other way tbh!
are you in a relationship? if not, who is your crush if you have one?
no, and I do have a crush but will not reveal it publicly like that lol
what’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at?
cooking vs. stress management
dogs or cats?
both are amazing but I love cats sm and desperately need one
if you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favourite picture/favourite line/favourite etc. from something you created this year?
so far it has to be the most recent digital art I made of Kyo just cuz I feel like I've finally started getting the hang of digital art even though my comfort zone still lies in traditional art.
what’s something you’d like to create content for?
nothing specific, just anything I'm interested in in the moment.
what’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
this is really fkn random coming from me but. watching baseball. I've never been a sports person, never watched sports except during world cups or the olympics. but ever since a few days ago I've found a new hyperfixation I guess, completely unexpectedly and out of my control 😭
what’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
idk tbh, can't think of anything rn. I haven't been that excited for anything lately.
what’s a hidden talent of yours?
I can mimick trumpet sounds well? 😭
are you religious?
not really, I don't follow a specific religion
what’s something you wish to have at this moment?
for all my anxieties to be alleviated so I can finally live a normal life again.
tagging @ranuunculus , @cupofteaandstars (no pressure ofc) and anyone else who feels like it :D ~

I mean I’ve changed a lot of things Allan does from Canon, but I think in general I think attacking goblins in game (other then Ranrok cus yk. He’s not just trying to fight for equality he’s trying to create a dictatorship. But all the rest are just following orders??? They’re just (understandably) freedom fighters. They don’t deserve to die :( I try not to attack them honestly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So. If I went through EVERY pet Allan has I might crash Tumblr with just how many pet names he has. However I’ll give you the (many) CONSISTENT pets he has:
Tumblr media
Amethyst- not really a “pet” but rather a “nonhuman friend”.
Tumblr media
2. Firestarter
Tumblr media
3. Sepulchria
Tumblr media
4. Snuggles- Gilbert and Allan’s lil niff baby they share. Although if Allan were ever separated from this particular niffler for more then a day he might cry. He treats that thing like his child rofl
However. He canonically has over a DOZEN nifflers- Snuggles is just him and Gil’s joint pet. He himself has MANY.
I had a pic of almost half his army but I can’t find it so here’s just a whole list of names rofl you’re welcome /j:
Rusty
Glam
Beetle
Powdersnow
Irondale (the irondale pilferer quest niffler)
Perry
Coin
Coat
Jacket
Violette
Buttons
Arctic
Tundra
Glimmer
Voleur
Parakeet
Sunny
William
Crow
Blank
Allan Jr
Flour
Sugar
Gringotts
Dennis (who is literally Gilbert’s albino niff who comes to visit sometimes)
…Yeah he’s a crazy cat niffler lady 😅

Expanding the Archives
Here at Archive of the Odd, our research has brought us to a dangerous revelation: we can now publish long fiction. You might have already heard, but we're coming out with three new chapbooks! Be on the lookout for more news coming up.
If you have found or ergodic fiction that might be a good fit, we've also posted new guidelines for standalone short and long fiction. This includes what we're hoping to see, and what you can expect from us. See our website for details.
