Explore Camiguin Island in Mindanao

Camiguin Island is the one of the most visited sites in the Mindanao. Pear-shaped volcanic island in the northern tip of Mindanao. It is approximately 90 kilometers north of the city of Cagayan de Oro. It is bounded to the north by Bohol Sea, to the west by Macajalar Bay, to the souteast by Gingoog Bay and to the east by Butuan Bay.

This is White island, a white sand floating in the ocean. located two kilometers off the coast of Agoho, Mambajao. This beach at times is shaped like letter C, sometimes it looks like A depending on the ocean tide. Sunken Cemetery at Catarman this in the place of reverence and reflection, the site is accessible by boat and visitors can stand on its small base while it remains above water. Philippines Reduces Facebook Pages Selling Babies

Authorities in the Philippines have made substantial progress in their fight against illegal online adoption practices. The National Authority for Child Care (NACC), in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), successfully reduced the number of Facebook pages selling babies. The crackdown, which involved a coordinated effort among various government agencies, led to a significant decrease in such illegal activities.

This mother sold her children, aged 1 and 2, to an undercover PNP agent for PHP30,000 each. The mother is now under police custody, and her children are being cared for at the Lingap Center in Catarman.  

Efforts and Achievements

Estrada noted that ongoing collaboration with the PNP and DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and Women and Children Protection Center (WDCC) was crucial in reducing the number of illegal Facebook pages. The NACC continues to monitor social media sites and requests the removal of such pages from Facebook, although the platform has yet to respond. Notable Achievements: - The arrest in Northern Samar demonstrates effective enforcement. - The number of monitored Facebook accounts involved in child trafficking has been significantly reduced. - Ongoing coordination with local and national authorities enhances the effectiveness of these efforts.  

Upcoming Events and Initiatives

The NACC is also organizing the final two stops of the 1st National Congress on Adoption and Alternative Child Care. These events will take place in Clark, Pampanga for the North and Central Luzon clusters, and Cebu City for the Visayas cluster. The congress aims to strengthen partnerships with local government units (LGUs) and enhance the implementation of adoption and alternative childcare programs. Congress Details: - Pampanga: June 19-20, 2024 - Cebu: June 26-27, 2024   Strengthening Local Partnerships The congress will provide an opportunity for the NACC to collaborate with 29 LGUs, which have signed a memorandum of agreement for developing foster parents. An additional 22 LGUs are currently in the process of signing agreements. These initiatives aim to bolster the Philippine Foster Care Program and ensure the protection and welfare of children. Foster Care Program: - 216 LGUs have participated. - Significant participation from mayors across Mindanao, Metro Manila, and South Luzon.

Protecting Vulnerable Children

NACC’s efforts are part of a broader mission to safeguard and protect the rights and welfare of vulnerable Filipino children. The agency, created under the Department of Social Welfare and Development, assumed responsibilities from the Inter-Country Adoption Board and other agencies under Republic Act 11642, signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte on January 6, 2022. Exploring the Untouched Beauty of Northern Samar

Nestled in the heart of the Philippines, Northern Samar remains like a hidden gem waiting to discovered by the travelers seeking adventure off the beaten path. With its rugged coastline pristine beaches, and lush hinterlands, this province offers a glimpse into a world untouched by tourism.

My journey began in the town of Catarman, my parents' home town. It was my first time there, and I was immediately captivated by the warm hospitality of the locals. From there, I embarked on a road trip along the windy coastal roads, each bend revealing a new vista of turquoise waters crashing against tower cliffs.

My first stop was the idyllic shores of Onay Beach, where the palm-fringed sands stretched as far as the eye could see. Here, I immersed myself in the simplicity of nature's embrace. I marveled at the kaleidoscope of marine life that thrived beneath the surface, a reminder of the delicate balance of ecosystems.

No trip to Northern Samar would be complete without a visit to Laoang Church which lived as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and resilience that defines the Filipino people. As I stood amidst the ancient stone archways, I felt a sense of reverence wash over me. A feeling of connection to the countless souls who had sought solace within these hallowed halls. In addition, the church withessed the unwavering love of Filipinos to our Savior, bringing us close together.

As my journey drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the timeless beauty of Northern Samar— a land of contradictions and contrasts, where the past mingles seamlessly with the present, and the natural world reigns supreme. I discovered a sense of belonging that marked as a reminder of our shared humanity and interconnectedness with the world around us.

And so, as I bid farewell to this enchanted-like land, I carried with me not only memories but also a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty that lies waiting to be discovered in every corner of our planet.

The good thing about Samar is that there are many surfing sites, so after Siargao and Catarman, Cons and I intend to go to our next surfing destination, and we're browsing for surfboards online lol. It was good to meet wonderful folks who are truly participating in surfing competitions. We're into surfing now 🏄‍♀️🌊🏄‍♂️

As the sun rises over Palapag, the misty mountains come into view, enveloping the town in a mystical atmosphere. The crisp morning air fills your lungs as you set off to explore the town.   Triumph in the North: LGUs Shine in Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign

In a commendable move, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) celebrated the success of 16 local government units (LGUs) in the Northern Mindanao Region for their outstanding performance in the anti-illegal drugs campaign. The recognition came during the prestigious National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Awards held in Quezon City, where LGUs from four provinces secured "national awardee" status.   Camiguin Province Leads the Way A spotlight on excellence shone over Camiguin province, where all five LGUs—Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, Mambajao, and Sagay—achieved the distinguished "national awardee" status, setting a remarkable example in the fight against illegal drugs.   Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte Recognized Misamis Oriental showcased its commitment to the cause with LGUs from Binuangan, Lagonglong, Laguindingan, Lugait, and Naawan earning well-deserved recognition. Similarly, in Lanao del Norte, the spotlight was on the remarkable efforts of Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Kauswagan, and Sapad.   Bukidnon Stands Tall in the Anti-Drug Campaign Bukidnon province, too, made its mark, with Damulog and Malitbog receiving acknowledgment for their unwavering dedication. Community-Based Initiatives Earn Accolades

Surpassing conventional expectations, the Municipalities of Binuangan and Maramag in Bukidnon, in tandem with Calamba in Misamis Occidental, received noteworthy acclaim for their exceptional Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Programs (CBDRP). This recognition is particularly significant in addressing the challenges faced by individuals grappling with drug use.   DILG's Benjamin Abalos, Jr. Commends LGUs DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. underscored the pivotal role of LGUs in the government’s anti-drug efforts. Emphasizing the necessity to address the issue at its roots, he stated, "To battle this problem, we must battle it directly to the grassroots, and the battleground is on the LGUs."
