A singer shot dead by her elderly husband in a restaurant after months of trying to divorce her.

Yrma Lydya, 21, was shot dead by Jesus Hernandez, 79, in a private room of a Japanese restaurant in Mexico City, police say. Popular artist Lydya was eating at the club in the Benito Juarez neighborhood when she was killed last Thursday. The couple argued in the private bedroom and Hernandez shot his young wife three times in the chest, sources said. It is also speculated that he and his bodyguard Benjamin Hernandez then attempted to escape the scene in a luxury car before being pulled away by police officers. The horror murder happened after Lydya contacted a law firm in April to start divorce proceedings. She showed photos of her bruised face from a series of domestic violence incidents as evidence, Mexico's Excelsior reports. Lydya also filed a police report in December, alleging her husband beat her and on another occasion threatened her with a gun.

Incident Details

Mexico City security chief Omar Garcia Harfuch said Hernandez met two people at the restaurant last Thursday at 2 p.m. before leaving around 6 p.m., Milenio News Network reports. Lydya later arrived at the restaurant and rumor has it that shots were fired in the restaurant after she and her husband started arguing. A police officer who was in the restaurant rushed into the private room and arrested Hernandez, a witness from the Primer Impacto program said. Harfuch confirmed that the singer died after receiving three blows to the chest during the argument. Hernandez and his bodyguard appeared in court on Sunday and are currently being held in a Mexico City jail as police continue their investigation. The attorney pleaded not guilty and insisted he did not kill Lydya, who was scheduled to perform at a concert in California on Saturday. Hernandez is expected to appear in court again on Thursday after his request for house arrest due to his age was denied by the judge. Read the full article

It looks like there is trouble in paradise for Scooter Braun, and this time the trouble has nothing to do with Taylor Swift.

Over the weekend, Braun deactivated both his Twitter and Instagram accounts. He did not give a reason for the deactivation, but it could have something to do with the recent divorce news.

Just days earlier, it was revealed that Braun filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Yael Cohen Braun. They have three kids together, so this legal battle could get a little messy.

According to the court documents, Braun is asking for joint custody of their children and has already agreed to pay Yael spousal support, which would make sense considering he’s worth an estimated $400 million.

What’s interesting is that their split was first reported back on July 11, but at the time, sources seemed hopeful they’d work it out. The sources said the couple had been going through a rough patch for the past couple months, but thought that time away from each other would help.

They aren’t giving up on the marriage and are hopeful they can find a way to make it work. But for now being apart is for the best.

Well, that source must have received some bad information because just a couple weeks later, Braun made this divorce filing…giving up on their marriage.

The couple got married back in 2014. According to Braun, he first saw Yael four years earlier when she was giving a TEDx Talk. “I saw a video of her talk and I just really wanted to meet her,” he said at the time.

Sad they couldn’t work things out. Hopefully we don’t find out that Braun was cheating. The deletion of the social accounts is a bit suspicious, but perhaps he just doesn’t want to deal with the divorce haters at the moment.

I cannot testify as to the veracity of these sources, but I think certain quotes illustrate several potent truths about society:

“There were cracks in their relationship then and things had already broken down for a while.”

We haven’t been given any information on what, if any, steps were taken to fix those problems. 

The famously private couple got together in 2011. She gave birth to their son Angelo a year later.

They wed in secret in 2016, with Adele describing Simon as “perfect”.

Having a child is a life-changing commitment, one that Adele and Simon made before marriage. If they managed to do this, why could they not sustain their eventual marriage for more than 2 years? 

“Adele had found an exciting new social circle in LA and New York of strong Hollywood women who loved her for her humour and down to earth ways... 

“Jennifer especially bonded with Adele and in the last 15 months they have become great mates.“Adele just became settled in that life, while all the girls too doted on Angelo...”

Again, I cannot verify these sources, but the article is accompanied by a picture of Adele in a bar with Jennifer Lawrence. 

It’s always great to find new friends. But are we to infer that because Adele became “settled” in her new Hollywood life, that she expected her marriage to adapt likewise?

“Simon’s charity business was booming and it meant he was travelling across the globe overseeing projects for weeks on end. His passion for his cause and his success just took him away from his wife.”

No it didn’t. 

Passion does not compel you to disregard your marriage vows and neither does business. You choose your priorities. Marriage and a career are not and have never been diametric opposites. That is a false dichotomy. But your vows to remain faithful to your spouse for life certainly deserve greater respect and care than the economic necessity of running a business-- regardless of your passion. Evidently, his passion for his work was stronger than his commitment to his marriage. Just say so plainly. 

“They had an unconventional relationship that had worked for so long.

“In the end they were barely together and so called it quits.”

Perhaps unconventional doesn’t work? 

8 years might seem like so long, before you realise that they were only married for 2 of them. The “reasons” given above read like a clichéd plot. From what I can see here, both were happy to conceive a child together, but not happy to put in the same level of work in order to sustain their marriage.

Just to give you a glimpse of how feeble these excuses are, imagine the following scenario. Adele and Simon Konecki announce via their publicist that they no longer want to raise their son. Adele is happy hanging out with Jennifer Lawrence, and Simon is just too invested in his business. In the end, they are barely together. They’ll still be friends with their son, but right now their unconventional parenting isn’t working. So they will call it quits for now. 

Everybody would be up in arms.
