🌺 Marabelle Series AU
Choices - The Royal Romance The Royal Wedding
So many 'thank you's' to the amazing @pilitella for creating this beautiful artwork of Liam & Sophie's kiss.✨️💖✨️Your talent for art is stunning!
🌺 Leo slid into the seat next to Liam. It's the groom's bachelor party being held in a speakeasy in Monterisso. "So, I don't want to sound like a buzz kill, but ...I should probably lay down some ground rules for tonight."
Drake scoffs, "please, we all know how to behave ourselves."
Bertrand nods, "no, you're right Leo, the last thing we want is the night to end up in the tabloids."
Trystan laughs, "the party has literally only started and already a buzzkill and a killjoy are here. Where are we supposed to get our excitement from?"
"Oh, I have that covered, T, don't worry. We'll get the party started soon enough. I've made sure the bartenders are on their toes," Leo winks at Trystan.
Liam shakes his head, grinning knowingly at his brother's response.

July OC of the Month: Luna Auclair
Please welcome July 2024's OC of the Month: @peonierose's Luna Auclair
Each month, we highlight one MC or OC on our Meet My MC / OC List. They are selected randomly on the Wheel of Names, and eligibility requirements can be found here. We accept MC / OC profiles on an ongoing basis. Please feel free to send yours in!
Learn more about Luna below
1- In your own words, tell us what you like most about your MC / OC.
I love how passionate and carefree Luna is. She loves and gives without expecting anything in return. She is an amazing character, one I’d love to be friends with (because she’d know some hot guys and could get me a date 😅). Overall, she‘s very sweet, but hurt her friends or family, and you’ll get to know another side of Luna.
She’s just a good soul with good and bad sides, which I love. Luna is sunshine mixed with a little hurricane.
2- Do you feel your MC / OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
There are some things Luna and I share. We both struggle with anxiety. We both have a similar eye color (blue-green) and a shade of blonde hair. Hers is lighter than mine. We both share the love we have for our friends and family. We do share the same taste in guys or are somewhat similar 😅. We are different in the sense that Luna is a more creative soul, and she’s less stubborn than me 😅.
3- What is most important to your MC / OC? What is their motivation in life?
Luna just wants to leave a good impression on people and life itself. She thinks if you send positivity into the world, good karma will return to you.
To make memories that’ll last a lifetime. A life well lived and one that’s cherished.
4- What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
People who are judgmental of others
Liars
Tourists/Locals who endanger animals (in the ocean and on land alike) and litter (throwing their trash everywhere, including the ocean)
5- If your MC / OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
Less war, hate and negativity in this world. Just live and let live.
6- What is your MC / OC's favorite quote or song?
Luna’s favorite quote is a Hawaiian saying her grandmother always mentions: ‘A’OHE PU’U KI’EKI’E KE HO’A’O ‘IA E PI’I – (No cliff is so tall it cannot be climbed.)
7- Other facts about Luna
Luna got her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Hawaii. She specialized in ceramics, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Currently, she teaches art at the University of Hawaii, but she wants to have her own gallery in Honolulu to showcase her art and show how proud she is to call Honolulu her home.
She actually has a sweets drawer; Bryce always makes fun of her but secretly takes some caramel-covered almonds from Luna’s drawer, and she pretends she doesn’t notice 😅.
Her favorite painting by Lindsay Wilkins is ”Akala Sunset“ (akala = pink in Hawaiian).
8- Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC / OC?
I created Luna while going through a rough patch in my life. I was fired from my job during COVID, and so many other things were happening, so I was looking for something to help me deal with things. That’s when I found Tumblr and all these wonderful people. At first, I hadn’t even thought of writing anything, but then I kept having this idea for an OC, and I wrote down a fic, and it went from there.
Luna inspires me daily. To live in the moment, to enjoy life. To spend less time on my phone (even if it’s where all my notes about stories and characters live 😅) and to spend more time with my friends and family. To love pink. Be more positive in life, and not let the bad days win. To simply be more me, my sometimes weird, full-of-energy Aries self.
I‘m also SO grateful I created Luna and all my wonderful stories. Thank you to anyone who’s ever given my characters and stories a chance. I will never be able to express my thanks and gratitude 🥰.
Also, here is a little thank you letter from Luna.
Dear you,
Whatever happens in life, whether good or bad, don’t take it too personally; don’t let it consume you. Just try to breathe out and let it go (yes, it can be like the song from Frozen 🥰) I learned a long time ago that if you carry hate and bad vibes with you, it’ll be like a bad smell, you can’t get rid of, and you don’t want that do you? So be you!!!!!! However, you choose to be, whatever you wear, how you express yourself. Be you!!!! And maybe live close to a place that has a lot of sun and a beach (just saying, vitamin D is good, you know, and yes, the advice came from Bryce 🥰)
Whoever needs to hear this: I see you. You are loved; you are worthy. This world wouldn’t be the same place without you in it. Never forget that!
Lots of love Luna

Dates and other Catastrophes
Part 1

Book: Open Heart
Pairing: Keiki Lahela (F!MC) x Koa Haulani (M!OC)
Words: +5,000k
TW: Mentions of Cancer, anxiety, drug abuse, alcohol abuse.
Summary: Keiki and Koa are struggling to find time to go on their first date. Will they succeed?
Note: I used the prompts Tidings, Lights and Joy from the @choicesdecember2024
A/N: Okay I know it’s a bit on the longer side, but trust me you won’t regret reading this story. This shaped up to be one of my favorite stories I’ve ever written. So enjoy 🌸🌸
A/N 2: If you want to know how Keiki and Koa met here’s their story Wildflower. Happy reading 🌸
Keiki
1.30 am
I paced around my room and hoped I wouldn’t wake my brother, Luna or the twins.
”Come on pick up. Pick up.“ I kept muttering.
A few seconds later I heard Alexis' sleep ridden voice.
”Keiks, do you know what time it is?“
”Yes. But I need your help.“
”Fine. Only because you’re my best friend otherwise I’d hang up. Okay spill girl. What’s so important that you had to wake me?“
”My date with Koa? Like how do I ask him?“
”That’s the emergency? Oh come on Keiks. Look, you can wait until he asks you out.“
”Yeah I’d wait until I was 80. No, I want to ask him out.“
”Okay then go to him, flick your eyelashes, smile and ask him.“
”I’m not Anne. What if I wrote him a letter?“
”Do you want to put it in morse code too?“
”What?“ I was confused for a second by what Alexis said.
Lexi‘s sigh was audible even from my end.
”Look, if you like him, ask him. There’s nothing wrong with a woman asking out a guy. With that being said Alexis is going back to sleep. Byeee.“
The beeping sound of Alexis who’d hung up on me echoed in my ear. Before I could think better of it I shot Koa a text.
»Are you still awake?«
Minutes passed by without a response. I waited and waited.
Worst anxious moment of my life. If you don’t count applying for colleges and waiting for a reply.
I sighed and dropped down on my bed with my phone on my stomach.
He was probably fast asleep by now. Tomorrow we both had morning classes, he was going to be at the lab a lot. And I knew he’s got his study for corals on his mind.
Damn it, I should have sent that text a long time ago, not waited half a century to hit send. A tiny piece of me was glad I did because I fucking wanted to get to know him. So what if I asked him out first? Alexis was right. Where does it say the guy has to make the first step?
I sighed again and looked at my screen only to see there’s no response.
Tired of waiting I quickly got dressed in my pink coral spaghetti dress and put on some sandals. It’s good that the dress is easy to manoeuvre in, otherwise I’d never make it outside. Or worse I’d have to use the front door. Sneaking out isn’t always as easy as it looks in movies, but thank god for the big tree sitting outside my window.
Slowly I waited for my foot to find stability on the branch and then I climbed down the thick tree branch. Once I was outside, I made sure that the window was wide open so I could sneak back in.
I always took a walk at the beach when I felt restless. Or anxious. Or both like right now. I started walking and I felt my phone vibrate in my hand. I saw it’s not only a text. No, he was actually calling me. Shit. I’m not prepared for that. What should I say?
Okay let’s take a deep breath and answer the phone like a normal person and not like a love struck weirdo.

Koa
My phone lit up on my nightstand and I fumbled for it in the dark, only to push it over the edge of the nightstand, making my phone land on the floor.
”Shit. Why does the universe hate me so much?“ I cursed and turned on the lamp on my nightstand to see where my phone went. I found it and saw it was still intact.
Once my phone was unlocked I saw I got a text from Keiki. Instantly making me smile. What is she doing awake? It’s 2:00 am.
I had the wild urge to hear her voice, not just see a text and respond to it.
Looking around in my contacts I found »Wildflower«, clicked the call button before I could change my mind. After a second I heard her voice clearly as if she was sitting right next to me.
”Ko?“ Hearing her voice soothed something deep within me. Like the ocean always does. She has the same effect on me as the ocean waves.
”Hey Wildflower. Missed me already?“
”Dream on. But now that you answered your phone already...“
”What now? You’ve got something important to tell me at 2 am?“ I can’t resist teasing her.
She scoffed.
”Smartass.“ She replied.
I laughed out loud and I‘m at ease as I sat up in my bed, talking to a girl I’m falling harder and harder for each day.
”Okay we’ve established I’m the smart one…“
”And one with a great ass.“ She said though it must’ve slipped out as I could hear her sigh on the other end.
”That‘s not what I wanted to say.“ I heard her mutter.
”Oh please tell me how you really feel. Have been checking me out, haven’t you?“
”So what if I have? Is that a crime? You’re very good-looking and you know it.“ She responded.
”I don’t actually give a damn if other people find me good-looking or not. There’s only one person’s opinion I care about.“ I said and couldn't help the smile that bloomed on my face.
”Who?“ Her voice sounded suspiciously jealous and I couldn’t help but chuckle.
”Glad you find this funny Haulani.“ She said and I grinned even though she couldn’t see it.
”Where are you right now? I can hear the waves crashing.“
It’s true I’ve been able to hear waves in the background and thought she opened her window. Her family lives close to the beach I think.
”I’m at the beach. I couldn’t sleep. So I went for a walk.“ Her voice sounded far away, as if she was somewhere else with her thoughts.
”Why don’t I come along? Only if you want?“ I asked tentatively.
There was a beat of silence before I heard her voice again.
”Sure I’d love some company.“
I smiled as I heard that she’d love my company. I just can’t help it, she makes me happy in a way no one else has gotten close to in a while. Not even Isabella. But that’s a story for another time.
”Text me where you are and I’ll be there in a sec.“
”Ok.“ We hung up and a second later I got a text with her location. I was faster out the door than you could yell pancakes.

Keiki
I slipped off my sandals and wandered around. I dipped my feet in the cool ocean water as I was waiting for Koa. It was almost 3 am now.
Damn we’re going to be so tired tomorrow, but who the fuck cared? As long as we had a good time, who‘s going to mind?
As soon as I thought that, I heard someone coming closer and when I turned my head I saw Koa‘s tall frame coming closer.
He really came. He honest to god came when I called.
Without any thought my feet kept moving, getting me closer to Koa. And when I stood in front of him I just wanted to hug him because he was here.
As if he could read my mind he opened his arms wide. Making me almost crush him, but he only chuckled and didn't say anything.
”So you missed me this much, huh?“
He said, half of my face still pressed against his chest, nodding. He smelled of fresh laundry and something like mint. I looked up at him.
”Yeah. I haven’t realized how much I’ve missed you.“ And then I hugged him tighter, if that’s even possible, as he kissed the top of my head.
”Welcome to the club. I’ve missed you too, Wildflower.“ He mumbled and we stayed like this for some time not able or willing to let go of the other. But eventually we released each other from our embrace and started walking down the deserted beach.
He pulled me closer and I leaned into him. The soft ocean breeze pulled at our hair.
”So what prompted the walk? You mentioned you couldn’t sleep.“ He asked and I didn't know what to say at first, so I shrugged my shoulders noncommittally.
”I had a lot on my mind. My studies, but I was also thinking about when we’d go out. You know? A date? We’ve said we would but we never seem to find the right time. And I kinda got sad when I thought about it.“ I said, realizing I shared more than I wanted to.
Koa stopped short, making me almost bite sand.
”That’s what kept you up at night? Come on Keiks. That‘s easily solved. I’ll pick you up tomorrow at eight.“
”It’s already tomorrow.“ I pointed out.
”Even better. Which means less time to waste.“ He said and I could feel the first rain drops on my skin.
We both looked up and tried to gauge what to do.
”Should we make a run for it?“ Koa asked as the rain began to hit harder.
”Race you to the car.“ I grinned and sprinted away, not giving him time to answer. I could feel his smile as I was running towards his car, Koa close on my feet.

Koa
I let her have fun. If it helped her distract her from whatever kept her awake at night I’ll let her have fun and be carefree.
As I reached my car Keiki was already waiting for me. We were both soaked to the bone, but we were both grinning like idiots.
A few seconds later I just wanted to feel her close and the next words that slipped out of my mouth weren’t the ones I wanted to say but I let them spill anyway.
”May I have this dance?“ I extended my hand, and Keiki put her hand in mine.
”It’s raining.“ She pointed out, as if that would stop me from dancing with her.
”So? Let’s have some fun. Come on, don't tell me you’re chicken?“
”Who are you calling chicken? Let’s dance Romeo.“
”Music to my ears.“
Keiki grinned as we danced in the rain.
We danced for a couple of minutes for sure, even though it felt as if we'd danced for hours. The heartbeat was the rhythm that was guiding us.
I spun her away from me and a second later lightning struck the sky and we both clung to each other of our own accord.
I’m honestly not sure who moved first, but in the end it didn’t really matter.
A second later I cupped her face into my hands. I needed her lips as if I was dying of thirst. Drinking from her lips like they were wine. She leaned into me, fitting into me like a glove. Her hands roamed over my wet shirt, and she clearly felt it wasn’t enough and went on her tiptoes to reach my hair only to drag her hand through it. Making me smile against her lips.
I didn’t know for how long we were standing there kissing each other, but I knew right then and there I was in trouble.
We’ve known each other for months now, but it seems all we have are stolen moments. I wanted to go out with her and get to know her better for some time now. To find out what she liked and didn‘t like. How she looked when she woke up in the morning. What face she made when she didn‘t like a certain dish or drink.
All the small details that made her, her. Unique. Beautiful. Absolutely amazing. My Wildflower.
I broke off the kiss and leaned my forehead against hers. As our breathing slowed down I took her face in my hands and just brushed a strand of chocolate hair out of her face, not able to resist touching her. Her whiskey brown eyes turned a shade darker from passion, which is a detail I stored away for later.
”Your place or mine?“ She said before I could mouth anything and I laughed softly.
”Well I can take you to mine. Just for sleeping. We both have morning classes. So we should get some shuteye.“ I said when I took out my phone to look at the time 3.55, I also checked if my phone was okay only to see it was intact and there was no water damage from the rain.
Keiki nodded.
”Let me at least write my brother a note saying I’m already at the university. So he’ll see it first thing in the morning.“
”Sounds good.“
We both got into the car making a pit stop at Keiki’s place so she could leave a note. I memorized where she lived so I could drop by for midnight dates like these.
After that I drove us to my place. Taking the girl I’m falling for each day more and more to my place.
It was kinda nerve wracking since I wanted to impress her just because she was becoming important to me.
I turned off the ignition and waited. I don’t know for what. A sign? Lightning? For pigs to grace the sky? Dragons?
”So are we going inside or are we going to sleep in the car?“ Keiki broke the silence and I turned to look at her, her hair still a little wet from the rain. I couldn’t imagine my hair looked any better.
I nodded to myself and exited the car as she did the same. The slamming of the car doors was somehow louder in the quiet evening air than expected.
Damn if the slamming of a car door didn’t make me almost jump out of my skin, then I’m really nervous.
And I swam with sharks, so nothing really fazed me except showing the girl I really liked my humble abode.
”Right. Yes. Sure come on.“
I looked at the beautiful planted flowers outside and the porch keeping the hot sun away, though the sun was still away for a couple of hours. I opened the front door and went inside.
”You’ve got a nice place.“
”Thanks. I’m renting it from my parents.“
”Really? That’s cool. So you guys live together?“
”No. I have my own place. Almost all five of my siblings have their own place. Since my oldest sister got married and had her baby she and her husband needed a bigger place.“
”Aww. That’s so cute.“
I grinned at Keiki and she smiled warmly back at me. Talking about my family always brought me the greatest joy.
”Yeah Dalia is the cutest. Though my other two siblings live with my parents, since one of my youngest two sisters is 2 and a half.”
”What? Please tell me you have pics.“
”Of course I do. She’s the sweetest. I think mom said she’d bring her around for me to babysit this weekend. You’re welcome to stay if you want.“ I smiled, put my car keys on the counter in the hallway and we continued walking towards the kitchen.
”Are you sure?“ Keiki‘s answer was hesitant as if she didn’t want to intrude but she couldn’t be further from the truth, she was always welcome at my place.
”Yeah. She’ll love you.“
Keiki smiled.
”Then I’d love to. It would be good practice for when I’m babysitting Kehlani and Alaia, my brother and his fiancée's twins.“
Koa gave me a thumbs-up.
”Why don’t I make us some grilled cheese sandwiches?“ I said and got out all the ingredients for some grilled sandwiches.
”Who knew you’re good in the kitchen too?“
”I’m good at many things. Cooking included.“ I winked at her.
”So the whole package?“ She made herself comfortable in one of the kitchen chairs.
”Let’s go with that.“
Keiki grinned and took off her shoes to get into a better seating position.
”I don’t suppose you have some Tabasco sauce?“
”As a matter of fact I do. Keanu loves that stuff so I always keep it on hand.“
I got out the small glass bottle. I don’t fancy it but Keanu loved it and so does Keiki apparently. I got the grilled sandwich done and served them on colorful plates chosen by my niece Dalia.
”Your bromance with Keanu is so sweet.“
”Yeah. Yeah. Eat your grilled cheese sandwich.“ I rolled my eyes.
Keiki stuck out her tongue at me. Before she could react I grabbed her chin and planted a kiss on her lips.
She dropped her sandwich on her plate to pull me closer to her.
A loud clearing of a throat interrupted our momentary bliss.
Keanu stood in the doorway, an exhausted gaze in his eyes. I offered him a piece of sandwich but he shook his head.
”Didn’t mean to interrupt your smooch fest…but…uhh…you said I could crash at your place for a while.“
I scratched my head.
”I suppose I did say that. The room upstairs is all yours.“ I sensed there was more Keanu wanted to say but he didn’t want to mention any of that in front of Keiki, which was totally understood. I nodded at him and he understood. We’d talk more later in the morning when we got up.
”Thanks man. Nice to see you again Keiki.“
Keiki who was blushing smiled.
”It’s nice to see you again too, Keanu.“
”If you guys don’t mind I’ll go crash for the night.“
”Yeah. You alright, Kee?“ I just couldn’t resist asking him.
I heard a chair scrape softly over the floor as Keiki got up.
”I’ll…uhh…go use the bathroom. It was nice to see you again, Keanu.“ She gave him a hug which he returned. She then went to the bathroom, which made me realize she has no idea where the bathroom is, but I appreciate that she wanted me and Keanu to have some time to talk.
Without saying anything I hand him a glass of apple juice and my grilled cheese sandwich.
”Talk to me, Kee. Who’s wrong?“ I asked him, giving him my full attention.
He sighed and took a sip of apple juice. His silver rings with a black gemstone glinted on his forefinger.
”I can’t stand those people at the frat anymore. I just can’t Ko.“ He said and he almost broke down.
”What did they do this time?“ I asked with a calmness I didn’t really feel. His frat mates are douchebags. But since he was a freshman he had to stay on campus and couldn’t live outside of campus but he’s almost finished with his degree. He’s in third year. He could live outside of campus if he wanted.
”You know who you remind me of right now? That guy from those books everyone on TikTok is raving about.“
”If you say Aaron Warner I’m going to kick you.“ I said with a warning. It’s true we looked similar but one is a fictional character and it felt fucking weird to be compared to a fictional character from a book.
Keanu grinned and took another a bite of grilled cheese.
”I don’t know, the energy shifted at the frat house. I saw Collin do drugs on the counter one morning. Like what the fuck dude? I know your dad is rich and pays for your college tuition but still! So I started looking for off campus living arrangements. Because honestly Ko I don’t want to live with those guys anymore.“ He said and I could tell all this was wearing him down.
I knew his father‘s history with alcohol abuse. His fathers path with sobriety was a hard one. That’s one of the reasons why Keanu doesn’t drink.
”You can stay with me. As long as you want. I’ve said so many times. Pack your stuff man and move in. I’ll even help you move your things. Even if we have to make the trip a couple of times. I’m here for you Kee. You’re not alone and you never were.“ I said and meant it.
He looked down and wiped at his eyes.
”I’ll fill out the paperwork tomorrow.“ He said, finished his grilled sandwich and when he’s about to put it in the sink I stop him.
”I’ve got it. Just go and get some rest.“
”You turned into a real housewife Ko.“ Keanu laughed.
”Bite me Hale.“
Keanu fully laughed and I knew things were getting better, they weren’t perfect but they were getting there.
After Keanu left, I let my head fall onto the granite countertop just taking a long and quiet breath of fresh air.

Keiki
I reentered the kitchen after I heard Keanu headed back upstairs. I found the bathroom after I looked around for a while.
Once I was out of the bathroom I headed towards the kitchen, where I saw Koa who hung his head. I wondered what happened? Trying to figure out how to help, I came to stand next to him, and moved my hand through his dark blond strands mixed in with lighter strands, from the exposure of sunlight.
”I offered him to stay at my place.“ Were his first words into the silence.
”That sounds like a good idea. He shouldn’t be alone if he’s going through a tough time, and besides I like Keanu. He seems like a good guy.“
He smiled at me and his eyes lit up.
”I don’t know about Ko, but I’m wiped out. Do you want to show me where I'll be sleeping?“
He smiled and after putting the dishware into the dishwasher he led me upstairs.
”Just fyi, I didn’t bring any sleep shirts or anything, not really thinking I’d end up at your place tonight…err…this morning.“ I said after entering the room.
”That’s alright I can lend you one of my shirts. You can also have my bed.“ He said and opened a drawer. While he rifled through the drawer until he found what he was looking for.
He handed me a bright orange shirt, with sea coral facts on it.
I gulped. Koa's bed? Where he sleeps every night? Surrounded by his scent lingering in the sheets? I won’t be able to sleep even if I tried.
Koa continued.
”And I‘ll take the couch.“
That made me feel even worse. Koa was tall and that tiny couch won’t fit him, he’ll be uncomfortable all night. That wouldn’t be fair.
”We could share your bed.“
Koa blinked at me.
”Are you sure that would be okay?“
”Yes I am sure. It’s not so bad, your bed is big enough to fit two, we'll be fine.“
Koa looked at me and when he saw I was serious he nodded.
”I’ll load the rest of the dishes into the dishwasher and then we can go to bed.“
”Okay. Need any help?“ I offered but he shook his head.
”Hey Koa?“ I called after he was almost out the door.
”Yeah?“ He looked back and I just went to him and kissed him quickly.
After I broke off the kiss I touched his bottom lip with the pad of my thumb.
”Thanks for tonight. Also for being an amazing friend to Keanu. He seems like he has a lot on his mind, it’s nice to know he’s got a friend like you.“
He left the room with a smile.

Keiki
I lied down and got comfortable when I heard Koa come in. I didn’t want to turn off his bedside lamp, because I don’t like the dark.
His bedroom overlooked the ocean from one side. He pulled down the blinds a bit but left the window wide open. Letting in a soft breeze.
”I hope you’re not a blanket hogger.“ I mumbled, eyes still closed.
”I’m a blanket sharer.“ He chuckled.
I heard fabric rustle and opened my eyes. He stood there in nothing but some turquoise satin boxers.
“Where’s the rest?“
He stared at my blandly.
”The rest of what? The house? I can give you a tour in the morning if you want.“
”I meant where’s the rest of your clothes! Or did they disappear?“ I pointed to his appearance.
”Well to be honest. I don’t wear anything when I sleep, but I put some clothes on for you.“
”Could you put on a shirt?“ I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. All that golden skin kissed by the sun was on full display.
”Why? Look, I get super hot during the night and if I wore a shirt I’d discard it during the night.“
”Fine.“ I muttered.
”Unless my body is distracting you from sleeping?“ He teased.
”Keep dreaming.“
He chuckled and it sounded hoarse. He turned off the light and I instantly moved closer to him, pulling the light covers closer to me. Not wanting to admit I’m scared of the dark.
When I laid my head on the pillow I was surrounded by Koa‘s scent of fresh ocean waves and citrus. Not just because he’s lying next to me, but because he’s sleeping in these sheets every night.
”This is stupid.“ I heard him say.
”What?“ I muttered.
He turned to me and pulled me close.
”It should be okay for us to sleep in the same bed without it being weird. It’s also okay to feel scared of the dark.“
”How did you…?“ I stuttered.
”I’m sometimes scared of the dark too. It’s okay Kei, you're safe with me.“
I smiled and leaned more into him, and instantly felt more comfortable.
”You’re right, it shouldn’t be weird.“ I said being close to him seemingly lulled me to sleep.
He laughed silently.
”Good night my little prince.“
”Good night Wildflower.“
We both fell asleep nestled together.

Keiki
It must have been pretty early in the morning when I woke up, because when I looked around I saw a digital alarm clock saying it’s 7 in the morning and noticed my pillow was moving.
When I blinked my eyes open, I realized I was sprawled all over Koa and he didn’t even care. When I tried to move, an arm held me firmly in place.
”Five more minutes. Please.“
I grinned as a devilish plan took hold. I placed soft kisses on top of his bare chest. Noticing some thin white scars. What the heck happened, was he in an accident? But before I could voice my question Koa peaked one sea green eye opened.
”Not the wake up call I imagined but I’ll take it. What are you up to Kei?“
”How about we just skip classes today? And stay here?“ I said as I placed another soft kiss on his chest.
”So what you’re suggesting is we should just what? Cut classes? Today is lab day. I have to be there.“
”Can’t you do it from home? Come on live a little Ko.“ I said before I lifted my head to steal a kiss.
I could feel him smile against my lips, before he broke it off.
”You’re playing a dangerous game Wildflower.“
I laughed as I got up, but not before he had me pinned beneath him. Making both of us laugh uncontrollably.
As he traced his fingertips across my face and then my lips, I got shivers all over my body. That such a small gesture could mean so much.
”What are you doing to me Kei-Kei?“
”Hopefully naughty things? And good things?“
”Hmm. Looks like we’re studying from home today.“ He said and wanted to get up but not before I stole another kiss.
”I wish we could wake up like this everyday.“ I said wistfully.
I love living with my brother because I get to see my nieces every day, but I’d want to live with Koa. It’s peaceful and a nice place to live. Also the view is nice. Who doesn’t like to wake up next to a hot guy? I sure do!
”You stole the words right out of my mouth, Wildflower. Come on, I’ll make us some breakfast.“
I nodded as Koa got up. I saw a bit of orange peeking out when his boxers rode up higher. Is that a tattoo I see?
”I can feel you staring.“
”Good. I wouldn’t want you to feel neglected.“ I said as I leaned back and enjoyed the show. He took a pillow and threw it at me, but I caught it before it could hit my face.
”Nice try. But let me at least help you make breakfast.“
”Nah it’s all good. You’re my guest so just lay back and relax. I’ll holler once it’s done.“
”Are you sure?“ I asked as I pulled my knees towards me and sat up in bed.
He smiled and nodded and then he went downstairs to make breakfast.
It felt strange to wake up in another bed. Not bad, just different. I couldn’t resist taking a look around his bedroom.
With his dark blue bed sheets, the pictures on the wall of dives he took. All sorts of corals were on his dresser and on his cupboard.
I got up and I knew I shouldn’t but I was too nosy. So I took a look around. As I walked by his cupboard I noticed a wooden frame adorned with seashells. It was family picture. With Koa, his parents and all of his five siblings.
They all smiled and looked so carefree. I liked seeing Koa smile. It looked good on him.
Then I saw a book and when I opened it, lots of drawings of all sorts of marine life but especially corals stared back at me. With all kinds of facts and descriptions lining the pages.
This must be his work for his studies. I carefully laid it back where I found it.
Too restless to stay in his bed any longer, I went into the adjoining bathroom with its white and light green tiles, a shower, and a small cabinet that I shamelessly opened and inspected.
Some black cologne that I opened and sniffed. It smelled like Koa. Mint and something fresh like citrus. Or like an orange blossom? Hard to tell.
Some medicine. Hair products. Condoms. Not going to look at that any closer.
I closed the cabinet and decided it’s been long enough for Koa to finish breakfast.
As I slowly got downstairs I heard two voices. One was Koa's and the other one belonged to his best friend Keanu.
I hugged the walls but they were too far into their conversation to notice me.

Magical
Premise: They’re caught up in the magic of a moonlit night.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Sienna Trinh x Max Valentine (M!OC) Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff Words: 735
A/N: It's been too long since I wrote a Maxenna fic. This one is pure romance! Based on an ask by @rafasgirl23415 #42 from this kisses list (out of pride). Submission for @choicesjunechallenge2024 prompt "bridge" and @choicescommunityevents Fairy Event - prompt "moonlit magic"
The bridge was bathed in the golden glow of streetlights, casting long, romantic shadows on the River Seine flowing quietly below. Its surface mirrored the light from a waxing moon that peeked through wispy clouds on an otherwise clear night sky.
In the distance, the Eiffel Tower sparkled, its lights shining like a thousand fairy lights. A soft breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers and fresh bread from a nearby boulangerie. The soft strains of music from an accordion drifted through the night, mingling with the sounds of the city.
The air was thick with the warmth of a Parisian summer night. It was a night made for romance—magical.
Sienna Trinh glanced sideways at the handsome man strolling beside her, and her lips curved into a secretive smile.
If someone had told a younger her that she would be on a second honeymoon in Paris with Max Valentine, her hand clasped in his, his ring on her left finger, and as in love as the first time they said the words to each other, she wouldn’t have believed them.
When she first saw him, he reminded her of a sleek panther with messy blond hair and a flirtatious half-smile hovering on his lips. She’d felt the first flutter of butterflies but quickly dismissed them—and him.
Now, fine lines fanned out from the corner of his green eyes, and there were hints of silver just starting along the hairline of his artfully styled hair. The boyish features had honed into statesman-like maturity. But his grin still made her heart go boom.
Ten years of marriage had only enflamed what began as a flicker almost fifteen years ago.
Lost in thought, Sienna didn’t feel Max tug at her hand and almost stumbled. He caught her, as she knew he would, and turned her about to face him.
“Daydreaming, again?”
She gazed into his laughing green eyes and fell in love with her husband all over again.
“Dance with me,” he brought her hand up to his chest, intertwining their fingers.
Max rested one hand on her waist, guiding her movements with ease. His eyes never left hers, and the world around them faded away into a hazy backdrop of twinkling lights and the sweet melody of La vie en rose.
Sienna’s dress fluttered gently around her legs, and she swayed in his arms. She laughed as Max spun her gently before reeling her back toward him. Leaning into him, she rested her head against his shoulder, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against her cheek.
“Remember our first dance?” he murmured, his breath warm against her ear.
"How could I forget?" Sienna grinned, tilting her head to meet his eyes. “I thought I’d entered a magical spring garden high in the sky. It looked like you’d bought out all the hyacinths in the Boston area.”
“I was nervous that night,” Max confessed, his voice a deep rumble that sent shivers down her spine. “My heart was pounding so loud, I was afraid you could hear it.”
“I was terrified of falling for you. I tried so hard to keep my distance during that first dance.”
“I remember telling you to let go, to trust me with your heart.” He lowered his head and kissed her softly on the mouth. “Just for tonight.”
“And then you stepped on my toes,” she teased, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
“And you laughed, just like you’re laughing now,” he said, pulling her closer. "It’s my favorite sound in the world.” He paused and winked lasciviously. “Well, second best.”
Sienna blushed, remembering the sounds she’d made last night. It was a good thing their hotel suite didn’t have any neighbors.
Time seemed to stand still, but they continued to dance, lost in their shared memories.
Boats drifted lazily by, their passengers catching glimpses of the couple and smiling at the simple beauty of two people in love and lost in each other.
Max dipped Sienna low as the song drew to a close, her hair cascading like a waterfall over his arm. For a heartbeat, they stayed suspended like that. Then, slowly, he brought her back up, their faces inches apart.
“I love you, Sienna,” he whispered, his breath mingling with hers. “I’m proud to call you mine.”
“I love you too, Max,” she said, sealing her words with a kiss that tasted like forever.

Here Comes The Sun Chapter 21. (Expected later this week.)
Liam let out a forceful huff of air. “Whatever animosity you hold with my father is with him. Kyla wasn't involved and she's done absolutely nothing to you! She's trying to be your friend but you're engaging in high school drama — it's petty, juvenile, and it needs to stop. We are fucking adults.”
Riley sighed, her face mimicking the color of a ripe Cordonian ruby. “Do you really not get it? He accepted her like it was nothing, yet I —”
Liam held up his hand to stop her. “Do you not get it? He was a different person then and acted on an impulse driven by fear. Had you come at a later point in life, maybe things would be different, but that wasn't our destiny. We are both exactly where we're supposed to be.” As the statement left his mouth, he smiled; in the past, these ‘what if’ scenarios drove him crazy, wondering what could have been if the circumstances were different. Now, the only thing flashing through his mind was Kyla and a bright, vibrant path forward.
Ghosted Chapter 13, Family Ties. (No ETA)
“Son—”
“No, you — you’re not my father, not anymore. You threw my mother in my face so much, but look at you! What you’ve become would disgust her!” Liam seethed. “I should banish you right now for lying and betraying your own flesh and fucking blood. Do I mean anything to you?!”
“You mean everything to me, son.” Constantine held his hands up in surrender but remained calm as a cucumber. “And I understand your anger, but I need you to listen to me for a moment—”
“Fuck. You.” Liam growled. He got into Constantine’s personal space within an instant and grabbed the front of his shirt, yanking him to his feet. “I hope you rot in hell, you spineless piece of shit.”

Summary: Nicole and Ernest go to Bath on a trip and puts things in perspective
Word Count: 3.0k
Category: Single parents, pining idiots, friends to lovers
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Ernest Sinclaire x F!OC (Nicole Donovan)
Book: Desire and Decorum, modern AU
“Trip, trip, trip!” Anne cried as she arranged in her own specific order the things she needed for the weekend getaway to Bath with the Sinclaires. Ernest and Isabelle to be exact. As she helped Anne neatly fold her clothes, she ran over the plan the both of them brainstormed over coffee and videocalls: see the ruins, visit the famous Roman baths, have an off-day to visit the local neighbourhoods and have quality family time, and try to sneak some me-time for the other while the children play or sleep.
Finishing packing, Anne hummed, lost in her own thoughts as Ernest’s family car came into view. He looked rather dashing, with a royal blue shirt, a black tie, his curls neatly brushed and black trousers and sunglasses as he stopped at the Donovan’s curb. He gave them the ghost of a smile as he came out of his car and pointed to Nicole’s shared bag with Anne “Let me get that.”
Nicole smiled at him “I can handle that. I may be small and chubby, but I’m far from helpless.”
He gave her a soft look through his glasses “I know that. I want to be helpful to you girls, and it costs me nothing.”
“It is also the closest thing to arm day he’ll ever get!” Isabelle exclaimed from inside the seat. Despite her father giving her a look, she giggled and greeted Nicole and Anne.
“Excited for the trip, girls?”
They both nodded “Last time I saw a gorgeous boy! I think he was older, but my, was he dreamy…”
Anne shrugged “I don’t know. I don’t think I like boys. Or girls.”
“Yet,” Isabelle teased.
Ernest gave her a half-horrified, half-concerning look and Nicole chuckled “Let’s put on a movie for you girls before you give a certain someone an aneurysm.” He shot her a thankful glance, and she chuckled to herself. The eternal discord of little girls having puppy crushes on boys and fathers being deep in denial.
The road was long, full of fields and small cities they passed by, the only sound being the whispers of the girls commenting the movie and Ernest driving, mumbling to himself about where to go or turn to next.
At last, the old city came into view: beautiful ancient buildings, fresh air and breathtaking scenery. As he parked in the BnB, Nicole noticed the girls fast asleep, the movie long concluded, and gently woke them both.
“Five more minutes, Mama,” Isabelle mumbled.
Nicole chuckled fondly “We have arrived at our destination, sweet girl. You can sleep earlier today if you’d like, though.”
Isabelle’s wide blue eyes suddenly came into view, and noticed that everyone save her was out of the car, and coughed self-consciously “Sorry. I guess I was deep asleep, huh?”
Nicole smiled “Happens to the best of us.”
As Ernest and Nicole unpacked and went up for their respective bedrooms, the girls looked around the lavish hotel, chosen by Nicole, and observed the rich, ancient infrastructure.
“Good afternoon,” Nicole greeted the concierge “we have two rooms. One for Sinclaire and one for Donovan?”
“Oh, yes, you do!” She squinted the screen and frowned “Oh, well, I’m afraid the room meant for you, Mrs. Donovan, has gone through… damage to be repaired. We are on the process to finding you an appropriate room.”
“What damage, may I ask?” Sinclaire asked.
“The former guest came rather… inebriated and broke several doors and windows. With Mrs. Donovan coming with a minor, it’d be a safety hazard.”
As the words sunk in, a staff member came to the woman and whispered something in her ear. Then, a thunderous thud was heard all over the place. Guests gasped. The woman cursed and went to check what was happening.
Fifteen minutes later, the woman came back, the same apologetic look on her face “Mr. Sinclaire, I am mortified to tell you this, but the former guest occupying your room—,”
“Tell you what, ma’am, I do not wish to hear it. It has been proven that this environment is unsafe for our daughters and ourselves, and we do not wish to stay here. Come on, girls, we are leaving.”
Nicole looked at him wide-eyed “Ernest—,”
He gently grabbed her wrist “Please. Think of Annie. Do you want her to stay here?”
He had a point. She nodded and they both went out, and Ernest did some calls on his phone. Finally, after stopping near the park, he looked at the girls “I have talked with your father, Nicole, and he has offered to let us stay at his old townhouse in Bath.”
Nicole blinked “I thought it had been sold to the government?”
“It was rented to the city hall for a few visits, but can be lived in on short periods of time. He is speaking to the mayor as we speak. We should have green light in an hour or so.”
The girls perked up “Papa, can we go to see the geese?!”
“And the trees!” Anne beamed.
Nicole squeezed his hand “I’ll watch them. You go take care of that.”
He squeezed it back “And leave you with the labour? Never. We’ll watch them together.”
She smiled and they both came out of the car, the girls scrambling to the pond, giggling gleefully. Isabelle wore a mint sundress, meanwhile Anne wore a turtleneck with Winx Club leggings, her hair down, chestnut locks bouncing against the wind of her speed. Isabelle, on the other hand, had her hair tied in a side ponytail, her raven hair longer and straight, but with a thick mane, like her father.
Both parents watched their children, sitting on a bench as they munched sunflower seeds, chuckling at Isabelle trying to play with the geese while Anne murmured to the trees. As a street musician played the violin, Isabelle pulled Anne into a dance, and both girls shrieked and laughed, spinning and enjoying the music, the musician looking at the girls fondly. Without saying a word, Ernest stood up and gave the musician ten pounds, thanked him and came back to the bench, where a curious Nicole observed.
“What? It is not a crime to pay street musicians for a good tune.”
“Sorry, uh, I just… did not peg you for the type…”
He looked at her “And why is that?”
“It is just… people like us are always taught to not trust them, and rumour has it—,”
“I care nothing for such rumours, nor have any intention of waste my breath in trying to convince them that it is untrue. The people that truly matter to me know the truth.”
Her heart skipped a beat “Do I—that is to say… I… matter to you?”
“You do,” he said, his gaze intense and full of tenderness. Their pinkies touched, the sunlight highlighted his brown locks and her warm brown eyes, and he swallowed, about to say something, when a familiar figure slammed into him, panting and giggling.
“Isabelle! You startled me! May I know why you threw yourself at me in such an unbecoming way?” He cried.
“We want ice cream!”
Anne made her signature puppy eyes, looking irresistibly adorable. Then, he sighed “Very well. Come, I know a place your grandmother took me when she came to visit a friend of hers.”
As they walked, an old woman came to them, beaming “Ah, what a beautiful family we have here! How long have the two of you been married?”
Ernest blushed furiously while Nicole gasped “Oh! Oh, no, we are not—that is to say, we are just friends vacationing with our respective children.”
The woman chuckled “Big mistake. You two look made for each other.”
Nicole laughed nervously while he gave her a timid smile as the old woman kept walking. She giggled “How strange! She thought that you and I…”
Sinclaire chuckled nervously, trying to avoid the fact that his heart was beating like a hummingbird, and that he liked that idea. Shaking off such thought, they reached the ice cream shop, where the two girls had scrambled to look at potential flavours. Isabelle asked for a cookie monster flavour, meanwhile Anne asked for pistachio, arguing that the colour, flavour, texture and shape was perfect. Ernest asked for a chocolate, meanwhile Nicole asked for a mint-chocolate. Isabelle scrunched her nose “That tastes like toothpaste!”
“Isabelle, don’t be rude,” Ernest chided.
“It’s alright. To each their own.” She said as she scooped another spoonful to her mouth, making humming noises to tease Isabelle. Anne ate her ice cream in silence, in her own world, recharging her battery. Nicole stroked her hair “Everything okay, my sweet baby?”
She nodded “Yes, Mama. Just tired.”
Ernest checked his watch “When we finish these, we can head out to the townhouse.”
As they headed back to the car, Annie looked like she wanted to sleep. Not used to be outside much, she was practically a walking zombie. Nicole picked up her daughter and kissed her temple, and she sighed and hugged her mother as she slowly fell asleep, memories of when she was a baby flooding to her memory, which warmed Nicole’s heart. Her little baby was coming closer to be a teen, but she still had these precious moments, and she was glad to have them still. She loved Isabelle to bits, but she was the epitome of moody teenager.
“I’ll get us settled; you get Anne to bed.”
She gave him a grateful smile and he opened the door for them, and she went upstairs, remembering the old house and her childhood room, and placed Anne in it, taking off her shoes and socks, making sure her hair was not touching her back and covering her with well-balanced blankets, not too heavy, not too light. She gently kissed her forehead and checked on Isabelle, who was enjoying her DS console, and told her to not stay up too late, which she received a ‘hmm’ before heading downstairs, where Ernest already had her favourite: pinot wine with white cheese and Spanish ham with olive oil. Clanking their glasses, they both sighed and stayed a few minutes in silence, enjoying the late hour, and the intimacy of it, and how right it felt.
Leaning on the sofa, she savoured the pinot. He looked at her and asked “How does it taste?”
She closed her eyes “Like I’m in an Italian field of grapes. The sun is out, there is a small breeze touching my skin, the grass tickles my feet, and the air is crisp and fresh. It is all green and blue, the way Earth is meant to be, the warm sun warms my skin and bones, and all I hear is the birds chirping and the critters sing.” She opened her eyes and saw that he was staring at her with a newfound longing that caught her off guard.
“I wanted to honeymoon in Italy,” he started telling “but Roselyn wanted the French Riviera, as a last goodbye to her homeland. I enjoyed myself, I did, but…”
“Being disregarded like that, you didn’t like it.”
He nodded.
“I was fortunate enough. Alaric wanted to visit Uzbekistan, West India and Morocco, and I wanted to visit Tunisia, Greece, Italy and Egypt, so we compromised.” She took his hand in hers “I’m sorry you didn’t have a good marriage with her.”
He chuckled, hiding his sadness “It is a, like the children say, red flag that I missed, I suppose.”
“Don’t blame yourself. We are never on guard or wary of the ones we love.”
But that was the thing. He was always walking on eggshells with her, always wary of her heavy expenses, always feeling like he was not enough, like he wasn’t pampering her enough. He thought he loved her, that he’d die without her, but seeing her in bed, in their wedding bed, with Richards… it all put things in perspective. He didn’t love her, he loved a version of her that existed only in his head, and she loved the fact that he was so rich and well-connected.
He never felt butterflies, or thought of her often, or any of the sort he saw in the movies and read in the books. He was attracted to her, to her beauty, but he never loved her like he was supposed to.
But with Nicole, it was the opposite. Ever since they talked in that bar, he’d been drawn to her like a moth to a flame. He thought of her at every hour, at every corner he turned to, his body felt happiness when she was brought up, he stared at her when she put on an outfit that showed how beautiful she was, and wanted her in a way he’d never wanted someone before. Badly. Maddingly. With so much force, he felt like he burned every time she touched him or looked at him. He dreamt of her often, and always looked for an excuse to be around her.
Just like that, their eyes met “I don’t think I loved her,” he admitted, his voice hoarse.
Nicole blinked “You… married her. Had a daughter. And didn’t love her?”
“I’ve never loved anyone.”
“Anyone at all?”
He opened his mouth to say something, then his gaze looked at her lips: plump, wide, that seemed to smell of strawberries and remaining pinot. He swallowed, hard, looking at her wide brown eyes, who studied his gaze. Then, he leaned in, slowly, gently, watching his every move. He could almost touch her lips with his when Isabelle’s signature giggle blasted all over the house.
Jumping back, he cleared his throat as she gulped the remaining pinot “I should, ah, tell her to go to sleep.”
“Good idea. I’ll… I’ll clean up.”
“I, yeah, good.”
This weekend had just turned awkward.
Nicole tossed and turned all night, still riled up from that moment with Ernest. After three decades on Earth, a few boyfriends and flings and a husband, she wasn’t mistaken. There had been a moment. He wanted to kiss her. And what was worse, she wanted him to kiss her.
A few months had happened since her relationship with Hamid. Could she really? Move on so fast? Times had changed. She had changed. Dating now wasn’t the same as then. Would her peers see her as a cold-hearted bitch for moving on so fast? Would he think that?
Taking a deep breath, she placed a palm on her chest and started doing the exercises that her therapist had recommended her, and tried to sleep something. It hadn’t come easy, but it came when she thought she’d have to wake up.
Anne knocked on her door, and at the sound of her voice, jolted awake and opened the door “Yes, baby? Everything alright?”
“Can you tell me what will we do today?” She asked.
Nicole knew what that meant. A full deep dive into what would today entailed. Stretching, she sat her on her lap and on her bed as she explained “We will have breakfast with the Sinclaires. Then, we will do some sightseeing, stop at a restaurant to eat, and see the Roman baths as I promised you. Finally, we will make dinner here. Sounds okay?”
“Yeah, I think I can do that.”
Nicole kissed her daughter’s cheek “Any time you feel uncomfortable or tired, tell me, okay?”
“I will, Mama.”
The first few hours went without a hitch. The girls laughed and teased each other, and an agreement between the adults seemed to pass: no addressing last night in front of the kids. Walking side-to-side, the girls splashed in the pools arranged that imitated the Roman baths. An elder lady whispered to Nicole “To be that young and reckless again, eh?”
Nicole smiled “Yes. They don’t know it, but the best part of their life is right now.”
Finally, nightfall came, and Nicole and Ernest both talked of what to cook that each other knew. Finally, they concluded legit pasta carbonara with lots of guanciale. As Ernest cooked the pasta, Nicole made the sauce, carefully so the texture and flavour was just right.
“Are you always this meticulous with food?” He asked.
“Yes. I have to give it to her, she knows that food has to be well done, and not… half-assed.”
He chuckled at her choice of words “I see my daughter’s language rubbing off you. One day, she’ll say the wrong thing in front of the wrong person, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get her out of there.”
Nicole placed a hand on his shoulder, and he inhaled deeply “You will. I’ve yet to meet someone as resourceful and intelligent as you. Isabelle is in the best hands.”
“She may be foul-mouthed, brutally honest and stubborn, but she’s got a good heart and her head’s in the right place.”
“Like you,” she smiled “you may be taciturn, seemingly unapproachable and morose, but your heart is as good.”
For the first time since last night, their eyes met. Truly met. He took a deep breath and gently stroked her cheek “Your words mean the world to me, Nicole. You—,”
“Are you making the bloody pasta by hand? I’m hungry!”
“Isabelle!” Ernest chided “You can’t speak like that in company!” He sighed and looked at Nicole “Forgive her. She gets, how did she call it, ‘hangry’.”
Nicole burst into laughter and added her final touch to the sauce “Who can blame her! She is growing and her body needs food. Especially when she is bound to be as tall as her father.”
Ernest’s heart warmed. Roselyn tried to get the rudeness out of her at any cost, but Nicole proved that sometimes, her reactions were right. Isabelle had been testing her patience all day, and she had passed said unintentional tests with flying colours.
And as they brought the pasta to the table and the girls raved about the new season of a show and Nicole came with witty remarks and laughed with them, he realised it as she giggled, wiping sauce from the corner of her mouth. He was in love, and he’d tell her when they went back.

I've Got You

I realized I had no art for Casey and Jess, and when I decided to rectify that, I knew exactly who I wanted to go to. @rosefuckinggenius did not disappoint! Look at my two sweet girls! I love them so much! Thank you for bringing my babies to life, Rose! You're the best!
I wrote a little drabble below to accompany it. I hope you enjoy it! 💕
Book: Open Heart (Pre-Series/Med School) Pairing: Casey MacTavish (F!MC) x Jessica Phillips (F!OC) Words: 696 Rating: Teen Summary: Casey & Jess are taking a little break until there is a turn of events - then it's Jess to the rescue. A/N: Participating in @choicesnovchallenge - Go For A Ride Day - not in the traditional sense, but hey, it works! lol and @choicesflashfics "Don't put all the blame on me." My Casey & Jess series takes place during Casey's med school years in Philadelphia, so this is prior to her arrival at Edenbrook.
For more on Casey & Jess, see here.
My Full Masterlist
Based on the crowds, it seemed all of Philadelphia was out to enjoy the beautiful late spring day, and Casey and Jessica were no exception. They put their books aside for a while to take a relaxing walk along the Race Street Pier. It was just what the doctors-to-be ordered... until things took a turn. Literally.
“Ouch!” Casey winced, toppling to the ground with her hands clutching her ankle.
Jess was immediately at her side. “Case? Babe, you OK?”
“Ow, no,” she groaned. “I think I twisted by ankle."
"Oh, hon! You have to be more careful."
"Hey! Don’t put all the blame on me. I was distracted by the gorgeous woman next to me. You're a hazard, Jess."
Jess was happy to see Casey maintain a sense of humor, but she was already at her feet, fully in physician mode.
“I didn’t hear a pop when you fell, and the ankle presentation’s normal... so I don't think it was a break.”
“Trust me, if it was a break I wouldn't be cracking jokes. It's just a twisted ankle," Casey said attempting to stand. "I'll just... OW!"
"You'll just sit and let me continue examining it!" Jess demanded. "You're obviously in pain... and I can feel some instability when I move it... it's probably a sprain."
“Let’s see if I can stand on it.”
“All right,” Jess agreed, quickly rising to support Casey. “Slowly..."
Casey did her best to be brave, she didn't want to be bested by a stupid misstep. She managed to stifle a yelp as a jolt of pain shot from the tender spot, but her eyes screwed shut, and that was all Jess needed to see.
“That’s it!” the beautiful redhead insisted. “You are not walking home.”
“Jess, don’t be ridiculous. We’re only about three blocks away.”
“Yup! Three blocks too many for you to walk in this condition."
"It doesn’t hurt that bad," Casey fibbbed. "I can wobble.”
“Wobble my ass!” Jess snapped, turning her back to Casey. “Let’s go. Hop on.”
“Wait... what?”
“Hop on! I'm carrying you back to the apartment.”
“You’re giving me.... a piggyback ride? Really?”
Jess turned around with a roll of her eyes. “This isn’t for fun... and don't get excited... it’s nothing kinky, either. We just need to get you home so I can look at that ankle better. At a minimum, you'll need some ice and elevation."
“Jess, it’s not necessary... I can...”
But Jess was done. “GET ON!”
Casey knew when it was time to hush up, and now was that time. She hopped onto her girlfriend's back at once, but she wasn't done complaining.
“For the love of... Jess... I love you, but sometimes you’re just...”
“Just what?”
Hearing the concern in Jess’s voice, Casey felt her defenses thawing. “You’re just... too good to me. That's what you are. I’m sorry.”
“It’s OK,” Jess said with the very smile that first caught Casey's eye. “Patients in pain can be quite crabby... I learned that five minutes into med school.”
Jess lifted Casey's thighs, and Casey wrapped her arms around Jess's neck. But when it didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped, the two women couldn’t help but laugh.
“Babe, look. I'm laughing. Are you sure I can't try to...."
“CASEY!" Jess snapped.
“But I weigh as much as you do! I don't want to hurt you."
Jess continued to walk with a shrug of her shoulders. “Why do you think I work out so much?”
Casey's brow crinkled. "I don't know? You do work out a ridiculous amount of time. Why do you?"
"Isn't it obvious? I have a beautiful, brilliant... but clumsy girlfriend... I have to be prepared for moments like this.”
“Gee, thanks,” Casey laughed, nuzzling her face into Jess’s hair, the sandalwood scent of Jess's shampoo filling her senses. “Jess?” She whispered, squeezing her just a bit tighter.
“Yes?”
“I’m so lucky to have you.”
“You really are,” Jess grinned. “But then again, I’m lucky to have you.”
“You are,” Casey giggled. “But try to play it safe, OK? Because if this should happen to you... I couldn't do this... I'd have to spring for an Uber."

"The realm's beauty reduced to a traitor."
Fanart for my OC from TCATF, Amira Castleroy. She is probably one of my favorite OCs, and I hold her so dear to my heart. If you know me, you know I've been writing an AU for TCATF for years now, and I made some slight changes to add to the drama, like her! She is the mother of Diavolos, Marco, Baltair and Seoras.
More about Amira under the cut!
Once a Fydorian princess, the woman who chased the King and ended up paying the price with the swordsman's swing. During her final days, confined in her cell in the towers of Lykos, Amira Castleroy (born Amira Evan, niece of the then King, Amanth I, grandfather to King Tevan) spent her time reflecting about her time in Abanthus, both as a noblewoman next to her husband, Lord Lennon Castleroy, and as King Luther Nevrakis's concubine.
Mother to the princes Diavolos, Marco, Baltair and Seoras, and to the lords Cyrus, Lucien and Hyland, Amira only wished for a peaceful life. But what life could've been peaceful when the King had her in sight? What life could've been peaceful when she made herself the enemy of the fearless Queen Hadara?
And during those lasts moments, before she met her fate, everything she wished for was to be held in the arms of the man she loved, to be surrounded by her sons and stay there. Even in her fantasy all she pictured was forgiveness.

Sunday Six 9/6/2023 - Blades II
The moon seemed dimmer without her.
It was a ridiculous thought, of course, one that made no sense. But following logic was never a priority for Mal and he wouldn't begin changing that habit now.
His gaze traveled from the grand balcony to the empty side of the bed next to him, as if she would miraculously appear stowed away under the warm comforters.
But of course, she wouldn't. And he shouldn't be feeling upset, she was the one who left without saying a word after all.

August MC of the Month: Dayin Axel Torres
Please welcome August 2024's MC of the Month: @oh-so-youre-a-nerd's Dayin Axel Torres
Each month, we highlight one MC or OC on our Meet My MC / OC List. They are selected randomly on the Wheel of Names, and eligibility requirements can be found here. We accept MC / OC profiles on an ongoing basis. Please feel free to send yours in!
Learn more about Dayin below
1- In your own words, tell us what you like most about your MC / OC.
I love their sense of humour, he doesn’t take much seriously, but he says his jokes with such a straight face. He’s fun but not bubbly, I think I described him earlier as “a warm sunny afternoon.” I also love how competent he is.
2- Do you feel your MC / OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
Honestly, not much. The only thing we share is a bit of whimsy, some similar music preferences, and a love of nerds. They’re more like the type of person I'd have a crush on haha He’s very calm, grounded, and quite smart and curious about things he enjoys. He’s a Wood Att, I'm pretty sure I'd be an Air Att, which is like opposite lol
3- What is most important to your MC / OC? What is their motivation in life?
Some things that are most important to him are not being vulnerable, and not being helpless lol. He hates showing anything other than positivity. His foster parents weren’t overtly shitty, but they never got him therapy (which, basically any adopted person deserves to have access to). His motivation in life is to not have any regrets. Regret makes him sick, it eats him up and feels like torture, he’s prefer physical pain to regret.
4- What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
Tight schedules, pop music, bacon, when people don’t close the door when they leave his room, people who tease others for crying (he will rant at you for 30 minutes about why that’s fucked up), getting up early (unless it’s SPECIFICALLY to watch the sun rise)
5- If your MC / OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
Free higher education
6- What is your MC / OC’s favorite quote or song?
Song: Dark Chest of Wonders by Nightwish
Quote: “Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”
― Maya Angelou
7- Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC / OC?
Almost drowned at the beach during a field trip in 5th grade, and is absolutely terrified of the water and drowning/suffocating. That diamond scene where you learn Hydrobreath from Atlas was INCREDIBLY terrifying, and he still has nightmares about it. He was never able to do it, he just couldn’t relax enough. He still feels so much weaker than Atlas, since HE almost drowned too but he was able to teach himself in that life-or-death situation.

Las hijas de Luna
Book: Open Heart
Pairing: Bryce Lahela (M!MC) x Luna Auclair (F!OC)
Rating: General. It’s a birth story. But there won’t be any graphic scenes.
Words: 5,000+
Summary: It’s time for Luna and Bryce to welcome their twins into the world. Will there be any complications? Or will the birth go without a hitch?
A/N: I just wanted to say thank you to the whole choices fandom. I couldn’t have come this far with my writing, my stories and my beloved characters, if I didn’t have such amazing and encouraging friends to cheer me on and support me. So thank you to anyone who’s given my writing, my stories and my characters a chance 💚
2 A/N: I’m by no means an expert with birth stories so please excuse any errors. I used my basic knowledge, friends knowledge and the internet to find out more about births but remember this is fiction, I was bit more freely with the details, but nothing too vivid or such pinky promise.
Side note: If you're curious how Luna and Bryce found out that they're expecting you can find out in my story "Cake by the Ocean"
I also included a playlist if you want to you can give it a listen here
2 Side note: I participated in the March Challenge @choicesmonthlychallenge and used the prompt plumeria flower. The plumeria flower symbolizes positivity & new beginnings 🥰 (I think it wasn't among the flowers that were mentioned, but since the story takes place in Hawaii I thought I'd use this beautiful flower).

Honolulu, Hawaii
March 30th
Luna
Bryce is about to head out on a camping trip with Keiki. They’re going to Waianae Mountain Range.
It usually took over an hour to get there. But the view was breathtaking and made up for the time it took you to get there.
I've been there with my family before. It’s marvelous. The fresh mountain air. The chirping birds, the rush of a nearby waterfall. And the light is perfect for painting. It’s truly a magnificent experience.
My cousin Skyler, Sky for short, didn’t like it so much, he got scared by spiders. Other than that it was pretty fun.
So when Keiki asked Bryce if he’d like to go? Bryce was excited to spend more time with his sister.
Because of his demanding job as a surgeon, he doesn’t get to spend as much time with his family as he would like to. Working odd hours, and being on call does that to your private life.
They’re going to spend the whole day together, going hiking, fishing and just sitting by the campfire. It was a beautiful idea, sans the camping. I’d rather go glamping, thank you very much. One time camping was enough. I grinned at the fond memory. I went camping with my family once and had to share a tent with Evie and Soraya.
It was great. It was like a sleepover. But I could’ve sworn I’ve seen a snake or two crawl outside and that kinda ruined the experience and sleeping on the cold hard floor wasn’t a picnic either.
I stood outside our house and watched as Bryce packed up the Jeep with their bags, tents, and some food my mom made for them earlier. I would’ve gone with them but I was told this could be straining for me since I’m due to give birth soon. With twins, you never know.
I’ve been having small contractions since this morning but I didn’t want to ruin Bryce’s trip with Keiki.
Gnawing on my lip I’m trying to decide if I should tell him, because if I do then he’ll cancel his trip and I don’t want to do that.
So I’ve been a bit worried all day.
Bryce looked up at me as if he felt my stare.
”Don‘t look so worried Lunes. We can go another weekend if you’re so worried. It’s close to your due date, Lu. I mean I know that twins usually arrive earlier than the expected due date.“
He looked slightly concerned and was torn if he should cancel the trip. His brown eyes were full of worry. The usual spark in his eyes was dimmed.
I walked towards him and tried to lighten the mood.
”I’m fine. See? Totally peachy!“ I smiled and did a little pirouette. Or tried to at least. It looked more awkward than what a pirouette should look like.
Bryce wasn’t convinced by my little performance.
We both heard some barking. That must be Knox, Adam‘s dog. Adam had a meeting with a potential client in Maui. He makes and builds his own furniture, and has his own company right here in Honolulu.
So when he asked us if we could look after Knox? We were more than happy to.
So both Maxi and Knox joined us in the house and are currently in our garden enjoying the sun and playing a round of catch.
I smiled and Bryce relaxed a little too. I hugged him, he pulled me closer, and I breathed in the fresh cotton scent and some cherry from his shower gel.
I looked up at him.
”If I should go into labour I’ve packed my bag just in case. Maxi and my mom are inside, my cousins and Meilani will be here shortly and I have your and Keiki's number on speed dial. It’s all good. Go have fun. We‘ll still be here when you come back.“
Bryce sighed and went to close the trunk of the Jeep. He walked over to me again.
”I hate leaving you here. Maybe I should just stay here. Yeah, that’s a good idea. Keiki will understand.“
I laughed as he tried to walk back into our house and I pushed him towards the car.
”Go and have fun B. I mean it. But don’t have too much fun without me.“
He took one last look at me and gave me a lingering kiss. One that made my toes curl. I smiled against his lips.
When he broke off the, he kissed me on the top of my head and got into the car.
I grinned at him and he smiled back, though the worry isn’t completely gone, it’s dimmed down a little. So I tried a reassuring smile.
”It’s going to be fine babe.“
”Alright Lunes. I’m sure things will work out.“
He nodded as if more to himself and grinned.
”Keiks let’s go. You can text your boyfriend in the car.“ He yell d towards the house and Keiki ran out the door with a blue metallic bag over her shoulder.
”Fyi he’s not my boyfriend. I was calling a guy who’s name I’m not telling you, so that you can win the betting pool.“
”Jesus.“ Bryce muttered, making me and Keiki laugh out loud.
She hugged me, smelling like peaches.
”Bye Looney.“
I grinned at them.
”Have fun guys. Love you.“
Bryce honked once and they were off, the headlights getting smaller.
My mom, Maxi, and Knox Adam’s dog were keeping me company. My mom said she’d spend the day with me until Bryce got back.
I walked inside our house once Bryce and Keiki were on their way.
As I closed the front door, a sudden pain made me clutch my stomach. I let out a slow breath. Okay, this was definitely a stronger contraction.
Maxi walked towards me, Knox in tow. She grinned but then took one look at me and rushed towards me.
”What’s wrong sugarplum?“
She guided me gently to the couch.
”I don’t know. It felt like a contraction. But that’s not possible. I'm not due yet.“
Once I sat down the pain was almost gone. I sighed in relief. Maybe it was because I overexerted myself today?
Meinlani said that could happen. I lifted my legs and laid down on the couch. Damn, this felt good. I sighed in relief.
Knox puts his head on my knee and I pet him behind his ears. Which makes him lick my hand. He’s a sweet dog.
My mom came over. She took one glance at me and a worried look entered her blue-green eyes.
”You okay baby?“
I nodded. Eyes closed. And I am. The pain was gone. At least for now. Maybe it was just a false alarm, and the small contractions I’ve been having since this morning were just preparation? I hoped that’s true.
”Why don’t I make you some chamomile tea? Hmm?“ She put a strand of my dark blonde hair behind my ear. I sighed in bliss.
”Two sugars?“
She kissed me on my forehead.
”You got it, baby.“
The next couple of hours were pretty uneventful. We chatted and watched Bridgerton. But I just couldn’t concentrate. I love that show. But I had a bad feeling.
Earlier I tried to reach Bryce to check in if they got there okay, but the call didn’t go through. Maybe they had bad cell signal? Of all days for the cell service not to work? Seriously screw you cell towers.
I was almost fast asleep, Knox by my side when the doorbell rang. I opened my sleepy eyes as Maxi got up and pinpointed me with a look.
”Don’t you dare get up. I’ve got it.“
I laughed and stayed on the couch.
”Who missed us?“
I turned my head and saw my cousins Evie and Soraya walk in. Followed by our friend and my OB/gyn Meilani, and Soraya‘s wife.
They all leaned down and hugged me.
”Good to see you’re following my orders to rest.“
”I’m a good student.“ I grinned.
Maxi snorted.
”That’s not true. You were up and about almost all day.“
”Luna!“
”Ohh. Someone’s getting a lecture.“ Evie said from across the room.
My mom let out a laugh.
Meilani was holding back a smile I can tell.
”Well you’re resting now, which I’m counting as a win.“ Meilani said and sat in the other armchair next to Meilani. Soon we were all laughing.
My mom's phone rang on the counter.
”Hey love.“
I could tell from the tone of her voice that it was my dad. She only talked like this when my dad was near.
”No, I haven’t heard anything about thunderstorm warnings. I’m with loon-moon, you know since Bryce went on that trip with Keiki.“
She listened some more and she was darting concerned looks at the phone.
”Yeah I agree. We’ll stay inside, don't worry. Love you too.“
My ears perked up at the words ”thunderstorm warnings“ and I sat up with Meilani's help.
My mom disconnected the call and we all looked at her.
I stared at my mom expectantly.
”Brian called and told me there were severe thunderstorm warnings issued. They’re urging everyone who doesn’t need to be outside to stay at home. I hope Bryce and Keiki will be okay. Looney, have you tried reaching him?“
I nodded.
”My calls and texts didn’t go through. What if he gets hurt? And they can’t reach anyone? Oh god.“
I tried not to cry but it was no use. I was full-on crying because I was worried about Bryce. Maxi reached me and hugged me.
”Hey come on don’t worry. Bryce is a tough guy, and he’s pretty resourceful. But don’t tell him I told you that. He'll tease me until eternity. So try to think positive. He’ll be okay.“
She kissed my temple and I tried to relax, but a shrivel of worry stayed where it was.
I nodded, got up and slowly walked to the bathroom. After drinking that chamomile tea I had to pee all the damn time.
It was good thinking that Bryce and I had installed another bathroom downstairs. To be honest I couldn’t walk upstairs right now just to use the bathroom.
As I opened the door I felt a wetness dribble down my feet. I stood frozen to the ground. Not moving an inch.
I was scared that if I moved I’d make it worse. I know that‘s technically not possible. But I’m scared. And a slight panic settled in the depths of my stomach.
Oh no. Not now. Please, not now. It’s too early.
I tried using the breathing techniques I used when I have an anxiety attack. Maybe that would calm me down a little.
Is the water supposed to break? I thought that was just a thing from movies and TV shows. But apparently, it’s a thing.
I must’ve made a tiny sound because I heard some tiny little footsteps clacking on the wooden floorboards.
Knox must’ve heard me. He stood there and watched me. When I didn’t say anything, he barked and I put my hand through his soft golden fur.
”It’s okay. No need to worry right? Women have given birth before, right?“ Even I could hear the panic in my voice.
”Lunes? Do you need help to sit down on the toilet?“ I heard the others snicker.
But I was not in the mood for jokes.
”My water just broke.“
They stopped laughing and I could hear them coming closer.
Meilani was the first one followed by my mom, Maxi, Soraya, and Evie.
Meilani shot me a reassuring smile.
”Okay no need to worry. Why don’t you go and wash up? We’ll grab your packed bag and drive you to the hospital?“
I nodded and Maxi was by my side and coached me through my breathing.
”Deep breaths sugarplum. Come on. In and out.“
She instructed me and I repeated it a couple of times before I was able to breathe normally again.
”I’ll go wash up.“ I said.
”I’ll bring you a change of clothes.“ Maxie said and went upstairs.
Evie and Soraya stood there unsure what to do, so I turned to them.
”Can you guys try Bryce’s phone again? I’d feel better knowing that he and Keiki are okay.“
Evie nodded and Soraya went outside to see if Meilani needed any help.
”I couldn’t reach him before. But I’ll keep calling him.“ Evie said.
I went inside the bathroom to wash up. Hoping we’ll make it to the hospital in time. Hopefully, the streets will be cleared despite all the storm warnings.
When I went outside I saw Soraya rushing in. A concerned look on her face.
”We’ll have a problem getting to the hospital. As I was turning on the engine, I noticed that the car was stuck. It hasn’t stopped raining, so the trails are too muddy from the rain.“
I sighed and when a contraction rolled around I tried breathing through it. But I couldn’t help the whimper that escaped.
”I was afraid of that. The calls to the hospital didn’t go through either. I tried calling my head nurse Valerie. But I can’t reach anyone.“
She looked around trying to reassess the situation.
”Okay we’ve got this no problem.“
”What do you need?“ My mom sprinted into action.
Meilani looked around.
”We need to make a make-shift birthing room. The contractions are pretty early on, so it could take hours before Luna is ready to push. She has to be fully dilated. Again that could take hours, and maybe the streets will be cleared up by then. We also don’t have any medical supplies or an epidural that I could give to Luna. I’m not going to risk an infection to either her or the twins.“
My mom nodded.
”Okay Meilani and Maxine you stay with Luna and make her feel comfortable. She doesn’t need any added stress to her right now. Soraya, Evie, and I will try to get the car rolling again. So that we can make it to the hospital.“
Everyone nodded while I was walking back and forth, not able to sit still. When I’m anxious I tend to walk a dent into the carpet.
When everyone was done making a makeshift birthing room, Meilani pointed for me to lie down.
”Alright. Let’s make you comfortable.“
Meilani sighed and looked up at me. A serious look on her face.
”How long?“ I asked, my eyes full of tears because Bryce wasn’t here and I couldn't reach him.
”We’ve got time. So try and relax. I know it sounds a lot, but you’ve got this okay?“
”Sure I’ll just lie down and feel all peachy. That’s a-okay.“
Meilani smiled at me, completely ignoring my sarcasm.
”But just so you know the contractions are only going to get more painful. So I’m going to time the distance to know for sure when it’s time to push okay? That way we’ll be able to at least have some time to prepare alright?“
I sucked in a breath and nodded.
”The contractions are going to be worse than what I’m feeling now? Yeah sure no problem.“
”You got this babe.“ Meilani smiled and her smile put me a bit at ease.

Bryce
Nothing but the blue sky above us as we drove towards Waianae Mountain Range. Listening to Elvis Presley songs. The top is rolled up, and we’re singing out loud.
Keiki laughed at my singing technique. Making me sing even louder.
It took us a little longer than an hour, but hey that’s fine. We made it and that’s the most important thing.
I turned off the engine of our Jeep when we arrived at the campsite. We got out of the car and put our bags, the tents, and the food we packed out of the car trunk.
I grinned at Keiki. Then I heard her curse as she tried to get the tent up and I grinned.
”Need any help there Keiks?“ I smiled.
”Nope. I’ve got it.“ She replied.
”Hopefully this time you can get your tent up, not like last time. When it all fell apart.“
Keiki turned around and pointed an accusing finger at me.
”That‘s so not true. You helped me build it. So technically it’s your fault it fell apart.“
I laughed.
While putting up the tent, I couldn’t shake off this bad feeling I’ve had ever since we started the trip. I tried reaching Lunes but there’s bad cell service out here. I barely have any bars on my cell phone. It seems as if there won’t be any cell service for some time.
When we heard thunder roaring in the distance we both stopped setting up our tents.
My gut feeling was confirmed when I saw dark grey clouds rolling in, where just a while ago the sky was brilliantly blue before.
”Damn it.“ I cursed again.
I went to my car and turned on the radio to see if there were any severe thunderstorm alerts issued for Honolulu. I found a radio station and only caught the last sentence.
”…urge people to stay inside. There are severe thunderstorm warnings for Honolulu, Kailua, Waipahu…“
I turned the radio off and walked towards Keiki who looked up from building her tent.
”You okay?“ She asked with apprehension written across her face.
”There were several thunderstorms issued and I have a bad feeling. I also can’t reach Luna.“
I pushed my hand through my hair.
”I’m sure she’s fine.“ Keiki tried to reassure me, but the worry stayed with me.
Keiki reached into her bag and gave me a signal booster for my phone.
”Luna's dad gave me a signal booster for my phone when he heard we were going camping. I’ve brought it with me just in case.“
”You’re a lifesaver Keiks.“
She smiled at me.
I tried reaching Luna and when I did it was not her voice I heard. It was Evie‘s. Luna’s cousin.
”Thank god Bryce. We’ve been trying to reach you for hours.“
I could hear a voice in the background.
”Evie? What’s wrong? Is Luna okay?“
Evie was back on the line.
”Her water broke. We’re on our way to the hospital.“
Her voice stopped me in my tracks, my heart started beating faster and I could feel the blood rush through my veins.
”What? When? Is she okay?“
Keiki looked towards me and when she saw my panicked expression she walked towards me and put her hand on my shoulder. I gripped her hand tightly.
”Wait, I'll give her the phone.“
I heard some rustling and then Luna was on the line.
”B?“
When I heard her voice I breathed out a breath of relief. I didn’t realize how tense I was. My shoulders dropped, since Luna’s voice instantly relaxed me.
”Are you okay?“ I asked because I wanted to hear if she was in any pain.
”I…yeah. I’m fine. But B? I can’t do this without you. Please tell me you’ll be here?“
I sighed. And activated my doctor mode. I tried to act as if this was one of my patients. But it only worked for a short amount of time.
”I’ll make it. Don’t worry, and don’t start without me. But seriously you’re in good hands. Meilani is an exceptional doctor…“
I didn’t get to finish when I heard her cry out.
”Lunes?“ I said and then I heard Meilanis' voice.
”She’s fine for now. We’re on our way to the hospital. So you better get your ass there Lahela.“
”How far along is she until she has to push?“
”We’ve got a little bit of time, but soon. We wanted to go there earlier but with the thunderstorms, it was raining and the car was stuck. The others are trying to get the car out so we can get to the hospital.“
I nodded as if she could see me.
”Alright I’ll be there.“
I heard more noises.
”I have to go Bryce. Luna needs me. Please be there. She can’t do this without you.“
”I promise I’ll make it.“
That’s when we ended the call. And I pinched my nose. And then I had to laugh because it reminded me so much of something Ethan would do.
”What’s wrong?“ Keiki asked me. And when I didn't answer her immediately she yelled my name.
”Bryce!“
Her voice shook me out of my daze.
”Luna’s water broke.“
”Wait, didn't you say she wasn’t due yet?”
She looked at the dark sky above us and her eyes turned worried.
I rubbed my neck nervously.
”Yeah. But sometimes you can go into labor earlier. Especially with twins.“
”Then we should go. I don’t think this camping trip will take place today. The weather is too bad. There could be landslides, especially in the mountains. And we don’t want to be here when that happens.“
I nodded and we both got our stuff packed up.
”You’re right Keiks. We should head back. Before the roads get too bad.“
I was loading everything into the car when I heard Keiki's voice.
”I think it might be too late for that big brother.“
I stuck my head out of the car to see where Keiki was pointing.
She pointed at the trail that was completely covered in mud. Even with our Jeep, we’ll have a hard time getting the car going.
Dammit. Of all days for a thunderstorm to arrive it had to be today of all days. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad omen. Though I truly hoped that it was a good omen and that the Hawaiian gods would be merciful with the weather today. Saying a silent prayer I looked up and hoped I would be there to witness the birth of my children.
I breathed out and turned to my little sister.
”Alright. Let’s not panic. Let’s try if we can get the car onto the road.“
Keiki nodded, but I could tell she was not convinced that we’d get the car on the road.
I turned on the engine and after a couple of seconds we got on the road and I swerved to avoid any muddy parts on the street.
We made it halfway home when we hit a pothole and got stuck.
It rattled the car for a second, and I tried to back out of the pothole, but no dice. No matter how hard I tried we were stuck.
”What now? Should we try to move the car?“ Keiki asked.
I shook my head and I hit my hands on the steering wheel. Frustrated.
”Fuck. I hate that we got stuck. Today of all days.“
Keiki slapped me on my arm.
”Well we won’t solve it by sitting inside the car. Let’s see how bad we’re stuck.“
I felt myself nodding and we got out to see how big the pothole was.
”Yeah okay we’re screwed.“ Keiki whistled.
I shot her an annoyed look.
”What? I’m just saying.“ She grinned and I laughed half-heartedly, as I was trying to calculate how long it would take us if we made a run for it.
”How long would it take us if we made a run for it?“ I voiced my thoughts aloud.
I looked at my sister who got her phone to see how far it would take us.
”It’s 10 miles from here.“
”We could make it in time.“
Keiki chewed on her fingernails. Painted in a deep pink shade.
”You’re faster than me. I could stay here in the car and you could go to the hospital. I’d only slow you down. I’m not exactly a sports person.“
I was torn if I should just go, leave my sister behind, and miss the birth of my twins or if we should make a run for it.
Keiki sighed.
”We’re wasting time debating this. Just go. Give me the booster for my phone and we can stay in touch. I’ll be fine I promise.“
I sighed and looked at her.
”Are you sure Kei-Kei?“
She nudged me forward.
”Go! I don’t want my big brother to miss the birth of my nieces. I’d never hear the end of it. Also if you faint please take pics, I want to remember this day.“ She said grinning.
”Very funny Keiks. I’ll stay in touch.“
”I’m going to be a dad.“ I shouted and she grinned at me, shaking her head.
I gave her the signal booster for her phone, kissed her on her forehead, and made a run for it.
As I was running I kept praying that I made it on time for the birth of our twins.
Which spurred me to run faster.

Kuakini Medical Center, Honolulu Hawaii
Luna
As another strong contraction hit me I cried out.
Meilani kept shooting me dirty looks.
”Luna. As your doctor, I’m telling you we can’t wait any longer.“
”Please, Mei. I can’t do this without him. Please. Just 5 more minutes, please?“
Meilani closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, she crossed her arms over her chest and sighed, seeing that I wouldn’t budge on this.
”Alright, fine. We’ll wait 5 more minutes. After that, it’s pushing time.“
I nodded.

Bryce
I was wheezing. Almost wept from joy. My calves are killing me, but I’m almost there. Just a couple more steps and I‘m at the hospital. I could see the building already coming closer.
I made it to the hospital, and rushed through the hospital doors all muddy and sweaty.
As I was on my way to the elevator a voice stopped me.
”Where do you think you’re going, young man? This is a hospital.“
When I turned around Brenda gave me the evil eye.
”Lahela you know the rules.“
”Yes I know. Please! Luna is upstairs, she's about to give birth. I can’t miss that. Please.“
”At least get a little cleaned up!“
I groaned. Seriously?
”Could you be a Karen somewhere else?“ I muttered under my breath.
”What was that?“ She cleared her throat.
”Nothing. I’ll get cleaned up, upstairs. Thanks, Brenda.“
”Yeah. Yeah.“
I sighed in relief as I punched the elevator button and the elevator rode up.
All I cared about was that I made it to the hospital to be there for Lunes when our twins were born.
The elevator dinged and I almost stumbled out of it, because I couldn’t wait to get out into the hall.
The first person I saw was Grace, Luna’s mom walking back and forth. Soraya and Evie were next to her sitting on the hard plastic chairs.
When Grace saw me coming in she started to cry and hugged me. I hugged her back. Though I’m anxious to see Luna.
”Thank god you made it Bryce.“ She put her hands around my face and I smiled at her.
I turned to look at Grace when I didn't see Luna anywhere.
She pointed to a room to the right and that’s when I heard painful screams coming from inside.
Luna must’ve already started pushing. I winced. Hating I couldn’t be there for her from the start. But I tried to not dwell on that. I’m here now and that’s what counts.
Grace smiled at me.
”Luna has already started pushing. She waited until the last minute. But she had to start.“
I nodded and got going.
”She’s inside with Meilani and her head nurse Valerie.“
I nodded and opened the door. Meilani didn’t look up as she guided Luna through the birth.
I quickly scrubbed in as fast as I could and joined Luna and Meilani.
”Okay that’s good Lu. That’s good. Just keep pushing.“ Meilani said in a soothing voice when I got to Luna’s side who shot me an angry look.
”Where the fuck were you B?“
I winced and then I smiled at her for using a curse word.
”Let’s leave story time for after you’ve given birth. What’s important is that I’m here.“
”I’m going to kick your ass for this later.“
I grinned and kissed her forehead.
”I wouldn’t have it any other way.“
Meilani grinned and her head nurse Valerie stood next to Meilani, keeping track of the heart monitor.
Meilani‘s voice got me out of my trance.
”Dad? Wanna do the honors?“
I squeezed Luna‘s hand and stood in the front to catch the first baby.
As I did, a loud cry filled the room and I suddenly held one of my girls in my arms.
”I forget how tiny they are when they’re born.“ Valerie smiled next to me and I nodded.
I looked at my little girl, and a whole new love entered my heart. I wasn’t prepared for this feeling.
It’s as if my heart was going to burst from all this love. Making space for new people entering my life. I still couldn’t believe Luna and I created these beautiful babies.
I took my daughter's little hand in mine and kissed it.
”Hi there, beautiful. Look at you being all pretty huh?“
”A new member in your Ohana.“ Valerie kept sniffing.
I nodded and kept rocking the baby and when she opened her eyes she looked at me and stopped crying.
”It’s your awesome dad. So cool right? Look at your mom. Super strong and going at it.“
Valerie laughed softly at my comment and I grinned.
I turned to Luna and waved with my daughter's little hand at Luna.
I kissed our baby's tiny forehead and Valerie took her from me. Taking care of the washing and weighing.
Then I was at Luna’s side again and together we got to see our second baby. Another loud cry just like her twin sisters filled the room, as she entered the world.
My heart couldn’t be fuller at this second, as I looked down at Luna and saw her tired but happy face look up at me. I kissed her and she sighed.
Meilani‘s voice got us out of our reverie. We must’ve looked as if we smoked too much weed. Goofy expressions on our faces as we looked at Meilani.
”Congratulations you two. I’m so happy that I could be a part of it.“
”I already know my vagina won’t be the same after this.“
Meilani laughed out loud and I grinned too. If Lunes can make jokes then she’s okay.
Valerie walked towards us and handed me Kehlani and Alaia. We heard the door open and when we looked up all we saw were the faces of Grace, Evie, and Soraya.
They all opened the door wider and entered the room.
”Look Keilani Mae and Alaia Rose are finally here with us, Lunes. They’re just as beautiful as their mom and dad.“
Luna rolled her eyes.
”I knew you’d bring yourself into the conversation.“
”What can I say? I’m good-looking. Says so on the onesie.“
Luna just shook her head and grinned, probably too tired for a comeback.
”You’ve done it. You gave birth to two beautiful girls.“ Meilani wiped away some tears. And we all just smiled, letting this little miracle, er…miracles, seep in.
I couldn’t stop smiling.
Soraya and Evie walked towards us and held the little twins. Cuddling them and peppering them with kisses.
”Sky is going to be so jealous that he didn’t hold the twins first. Let’s call him.“ Evie said and Soraya nodded.
They handed them back and I held them close as I put them on Luna’s chest.
Luna started to sob when she saw the twins for the first time. She touched Kehlani's little cheek with her forefinger.
”They’re so tiny and smell so beautiful. Like a new book. For a new chapter of our lives.“
She looked up at me and I nodded, too full of emotions to form a proper sentence so I just nodded and we enjoyed the time with our twins.

Luna
Holding your babies? It was a whole new level of love.
It’s something I didn’t know I wanted so much, as I held them close and took in their newborn smell. My love, my life.
I‘d lay down my life for my twins. I’d do anything to keep them safe.
As I looked down at them. I couldn’t believe they were here. It seemed as if I’ve been waiting for years to see their tiny little faces. I swore I’ll be a good mom.
A new exciting and thrilling feeling filled my body.
Giving me a new superpower. I’ve never felt this strong. I felt invincible. That’s probably the meds talking. But I don’t fucking care. It’s exactly where we belonged. I never thought this was the road my life would take me.
With Bryce, Kehlani Mae, and Alaia Rose. Our beautiful little family. Our Ohana. Our lives, no our love has grown ten times fold.
I smiled up at Bryce who had the same look in his cinnamon brown eyes as I did.
He leaned down to give me a gentle kiss, making this moment perfect.

Bryce
Luna fell asleep and was resting in the hospital bed. As I kept holding the twins.
There was a rocking chair in the corner and I sat down with the twins.
I've been rocking the twins to sleep for over an hour, but it felt as if we were in our tiny pink bubble of love. Nothing could touch us.
I heard a soft knock and looked up as the door opened.
It’s Grace and Brian. Luna’s parents.
Grace just started crying when she saw me again. She tugged at her husband's jacket.
”Do you see what I see? Oh my god Brian, look at those two beautiful angels! I mean I know I’ve seen them earlier, but my heart is about to explode.“
Grace shook Brian’s arm. Almost ripped it out of its sockets and I chuckled to myself. I can see where Luna got her excitement from.
”I know I’m standing right next to you so I see exactly what you see darling.“ Brian replied softly.
Grace rolled her blue-green eyes, just like Luna‘s.
”I don’t even care about your sarcasm right now.“
I smiled at them.
”Do you want to hold them?“ I offered knowing that if I don’t, Grace will just take them from me and cuddle them close to her.
Grace just nodded.
”Say hi to Kehlani Mae and Alaia Rose.“
”Hi there Lani.“ Grace held Kehlani‘s little hand and she blinked her sleepy brown eyes open.
Brian smiled fondly.
”Rosie looks so sweet.“
I sat back down next to Luna who was sleeping peacefully after not only giving birth to one but two babies.
Our rockstar.
I loved that we were able to experience the moment of our twins' birth together. Our love and genetics made this happen.
This is our Ohana. And I’m grateful that we‘ve started a new chapter in our lives.

Premise: Sienna realizes her son is more like his father than she’s comfortable with.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Sienna Trinh x M!OC (Max Valentine); feat. Noah Valentine (M!OC) Rating/Category: General. Fluff. Words: 740
A/N: This fic is from an ask by @jerzwriter, no.20 from this list of kiss prompts.
As a pediatrician, Sienna Valentine (née Trinh) had seen her fair share of scrapes and broken bones. She often reassured the parents of her young patients that children were resilient and that minor injuries were part and parcel of growing up.
However, when the injured child was her own, she found it hard to remain quite so laissez-faire.
Sienna still vividly remembered the day at the playground six weeks ago. She took her eyes off Noah for just five seconds when she heard his scream. Her heart stopped in panic at the loud thud as he fell off the jungle gym, landing awkwardly on his arm.
Now, as she watched the orthopedic surgeon remove the colorful cast, she held her breath, hoping her little man’s wrist had healed properly.
As if sensing her apprehension, Max reached for her hand and squeezed her fingers in comfort. The tension left her shoulders, and she leaned back against him.
She supposed she should be used to this by now. Her husband was no stranger to broken bones, scrapes and sprains. Only after she had asked Max to stop putting her through the stress had he curtailed his more adventurous activities.
Now, their son was following in his father’s footsteps. If there was a monkey bar, he had to climb it. The faster he could ride his bike, the happier he was. Lately, he’d gotten into skateboarding and spent hours looking up moves and tricks on YouTube to practice later.
Now that it was summer vacation, he was itching to head out to a skate park with his friends. A broken wrist had only slowed Noah down, not deterred him. Like another Valentine male she loved.
The orthopedic surgeon carefully cut away the final piece of the cast and gently rotated Noah’s hand, examining the newly freed limb, which was pale from being covered for so long.
“Looks good,” the surgeon said reassuringly, looking over his shoulder at Sienna and Max. "He’ll have a tiny scar, but the bone has healed nicely. Noah, can you try moving your fingers and wrist for me?"
With wide eyes and a mixture of apprehension and excitement, Noah began to wiggle his fingers. Slowly, he flexed his wrist back and forth.
“Does it hurt?” Sienna asked, her voice full of motherly concern.
Noah shook his head, a big smile lighting up his face. “Nope, it feels good. Look, Dad, I’ve got a scar on my hand, just like you!”
Sienna rolled her eyes as Max leaned in closer, exclaiming with exaggerated admiration and comparing whose scar was more impressive. Boys got excited by the strangest things.
The scar on Max’s wrist was from a car accident shortly before they married. She also remembered hearing he had broken the same arm when he was Noah’s age after jumping off the steps of a treehouse.
The surgeon nodded approvingly, pushing back the stool and removing his gloves. “He’ll need to take it easy for a bit, but he can start using his hand normally again. Just avoid any rough play or strenuous activities for a few more weeks.”
“Easier said than done,” Max chuckled knowingly after the surgeon left the room. He was too good at reading her mind.
He ruffled their son’s hair, helped him down from the examination table and wrapped an arm around his shoulder. “But Noah’s learned his lesson. Right, buddy?”
Noah nodded eagerly, his bangs flopping across his forehead.
He’s due for a haircut; Sienna smiled softly, brushing the errant locks away.
Max often teased that Noah was a miniature version of her. But while he might resemble her, he was a mirror image of his father in terms of personality. All it took was one look from either of them with that endearing half-grin, and she was a goner.
Unable to resist, she gently lifted his wrist and pressed her lips to the thin scar, ignoring his embarrassed groan, “Mom!”
When he was a toddler, she would kiss his boo-boos away. Now that he was ten, he considered himself much too old for such gestures, but it still made her feel better.
“Sorry, not sorry,” she teased, kissing his forehead next. “Being a mom has its privileges.”
Noah looked up and grinned back. “I’m gonna be super careful next time. I promise!”
Next time. Sienna laughed. How many times had she heard Max say the exact words? Like father, like son.

Beneath the Mistletoe
[Mal Volari x Daenarya Blades 1 + Beyond] [Mal’s Orphanage] [Mal Volari x Daenarya Blades 2 AU]
Pairings: Maiele (@lilyoffandoms) x Daenarya; Tyril x Mal, with Mal Volari x Daenarya and Tyril Starfury x Maiele Nightbloom Book: Blades of Light and Shadow Word Count: ~600 Rating/Warnings: Teen
Synopsis: Daenarya and Maiele find themselves beneath the mistletoe.
This gorgeous art of my Daenarya and @lilyoffandoms's Maiele is by the ever lovely @callmebeem. I absolutely adore how it came out. These two deserve a special holiday moment and they look so good doing so!
Lily, I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! I adore you so, so much! Sending you all the hugs & love, today and always! Merry Christmas!
Tagging: Christmas: @choicesdecember2023, @choicesficwriterscreations, @choicesholidays, @choicesflashfics (Holiday Prompt in bold)
Daenarya stood perched on a milk crate, trying to secure a sprig of mistletoe above the archway to the living room. She glanced around, hoping someone would notice.
Maiele, catching her subtle attempt, stepped forward, offering his assistance. His touch was gentle as he held her hips, his thumbs caressing her softly.
Standing on her tiptoes with Maiele's hands guiding her, she successfully hung the floral ornamentation.
"Thank you," Daenarya offered softly, remaining close to him. She chewed her lower lip, her gaze glancing back up at the mistletoe. "Look, there’s mistletoe. We have to kiss, it’s the law."
"Is that so?" Maiele teased, a playful glint in his eyes. "A human law, I presume? I'm not familiar with it."
"Oh, well, it is a very well-known and important rule," she insisted, feigning a coy grin.
"In that case—" Maiele's hand cradled the back of her neck, drawing her in for a gentle, tender kiss beneath the mistletoe. Their lips met softly as he savored the notes of cinnamon and vanilla, reminiscent of the cookies she'd been baking earlier.
Daenarya leaned into the kiss, wrapping her arms around Maiele's neck, pressing deeper, the heat between them rising. Her footing slipped as she forgot her surroundings; the milkcrate teetered beneath her shifting weight, but Maiele was there to guide her safely back to the ground in his careful embrace.
The pair parted for a moment, catching their breath. Shared laughter slipped between them.
"We appear to still be beneath the mistletoe," Maiele noted, not ready to let her go so quickly.
Daenarya nodded, a mischievous smile spreading on her face. "So we are."
Their lips met again as they stayed in the moment, enjoying the comfort they found in one another.
❤️ 💚 ❤️ 💚 ❤️ 💚
Mal turned the corner, his mouth falling, catching sight of Daenarya and Maiele locked in an intimate embrace. The surprise etched across his face swiftly gave way to a subtle downturn of his lips. He knew they shared a connection, but still, he felt a pang of jealousy... or was it envy?
Tyril watched the rogue in amusement, arms folded, leaning against the wall. "Is this not what you wanted for them?"
"Yes, but they could be a little less... I don't know... passionate about it," Mal complained. "Look at them!"
A moan slipped from Daenarya's lips.
"Did you hear that?" His eyes widened.
"Jealousy doesn't suit you—" His tone held a teasing edge as he continued, "—although I do understand the sentiment."
Mal huffed through pouty lips, folding his arms across his chest. "It's not jealousy, it’s just... an observation."
Tyril raised a brow, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "Of course, just keen observation, I'm certain that's all." He pushed himself off the wall. In three quick strides, he stood before Mal. "However, if you find their display disconcerting, perhaps a diversion is in order." His long fingers danced lightly up Mal's arm.
"What did you have in mind?" The rogue questioned, his tone faltering. His gaze traced the elf's lips without hesitation, enjoying the sudden closeness between them. His thoughts of Daenarya and Maiele faded away. He stifled a chuckle, it was envy after all, but not for much longer, at least he hoped.
"I simply mean—" Tyril leaned closer, his voice a whisper in Mal's ear. "—sometimes, distractions can be quite beneficial."
Without another word, the elf's lips crashed against Mal's, swallowing whatever witty retort the rogue had hoped to express. He relished how easily the man melted beneath his touch. Maiele and Daenarya could have their mistletoe, Tyril didn't need it. He could get Mal exactly where he wanted with nothing more than a look, and that's exactly how he liked it.
I hope you like this, @lilyoffandoms and it's not too much. It was going to be a sweeter kiss between them but Beem showed me a sketch for this with them looking more intimate and I just couldn't say no because look at them!

A Quick Study
Thank you to @tveitertotwrites for the suggestion: Any pairing, Cooking from this ask. I wanted to explore this with another pairing, too. And, once again, I completely ignored the 100-word thing... who was I trying to kid? lol
Book: Open Heart (Prequel - MC's Med School Years) Pairing: Casey MacTavish (F!MC) x Jessica Phillips (F!OC) Rating: Teen Words: 719 Summary: Casey's a little hangry during their late-night study session, but Jess isn't letting her off the hook. A/N: Participating in @choicesseptemberchallenge2023 Day 5, Notebook @choicesficwriterscreations bisexual awareness week; @choicespride bisexual awareness week.
The tiny apartment was dimly lit, as expected when the clock was nearing one a.m. But Casey had an anatomy exam to prepare for, and sleep was a luxury not afforded to the second-year med school student. As her eyelids became heavy, Jessica went into action. With a flip of a switch, the overhead fluorescent blubs blared, ripping Casey from the soothing haze she had been slipping into.
“Hey!” She protested.
“Hey, nothing!” Jess snapped back. “I’m not staying up with you for my health. We’re here to get you prepped for your exam tomorrow. Now sit up!”
Her commanding voice was a bit intimidating. If medicine didn’t work out for Jess, Casey was confident her girlfriend could have an impressive career as a drill sergeant. Still, she was too familiar with her softer side to take her commands seriously.
“No,” she protested wearily. “I’m too tired.”
Jess let out an exasperated sigh, but one look at Casey’s crooked smile and she was reduced to a marshmallow again.
“How about this,” the doe-eyed redhead smiled. “Answer one more question correctly, and we’ll call it a night.”
“Go for it!”
Jess lifted the notebook and read: “What is the name of the process of division of a somatic cell’s nucleus into two daughter nuclei?”
Casey squirmed before belting out: “Meoisis!”
“No! It’s mitosis! You know that, Case. Meiosis refers to the production of sex cells, not somatic.”
“Well, maybe I have other things on my mind,” Casey teased.
“Yeah,” Jess smirked, “Well, I’m not giving into that until I’m confident you’ll pass. I have a minimum GPA requirement to be my girlfriend, you know.”
“Oh really,” Casey chuckled. “Well, for your information, I wasn’t thinking about that! I was thinking about food! I haven’t eaten since 4:30.”
“Casey! Why didn’t you say something! You know you shouldn’t do that.”
“It wasn’t intentional,” she yawned. “I’ve been too busy.”
“Well, let’s fix that. What can we get you to eat?”
Casey picked up her phone. “There is a pizza place down on 37th that’s open 24/7. I’ll give them a call.”
“Pizza at one a.m.!” Jess scoffed. “I think not.” She headed to the small kitchen with Casey following behind.
“You won’t find anything. I haven’t been grocery shopping.”
“I’m sure there’s something,” Jess said, displeased to find mostly empty cabinets and some unhealthy options in the fridge. “Casey....” she groaned, feeling a little better when she saw a container of steel-cut oats. “Here. You can have this.”
“I could,” Casey blushed, “But... I don’t know how to make them.”
“You don’t know how to make oatmeal?” Jess’s brown eyes bulged. “It’s basically boiling!”
“Yeah, and burning. When I do it, it typically includes burning.”
Unsure if she was more amused or horrified by the reply, Jess brushed Casey’s golden locks aside and kissed her forehead to conceal both.
“I’ll tell you what. I’ll make you oatmeal, and we’ll study a few more questions. Then, we should really get some sleep.”
“All right,” Casey smiled, pulling Jess into a tight hug. “Thank you.”
“But, as soon as you pass this anatomy exam, we’re going grocery shopping, and I’m teaching you how to cook.”
“Jess, when it comes to anatomy, I’m a quick study – but cooking... that’s another animal.”
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m dealing with. We’ll start small. Grilled cheese for dinner tomorrow?”
“As long as you don’t mind burnt grilled cheese,” Casey grinned.
“Not on my watch,” Jess chuckled. “You’re lucky you’re so damned cute, MacTavish!”
“I get that a lot,” Casey smiled. “But you’re cute too... I guess you deserve grilled cheese that isn’t burnt for dinner tomorrow. So I’ll do my best.”
“Gee,” Jess rolled her eyes as she plopped the bowl of oatmeal on the table. “How’d I ever get so lucky?”
“We,” Casey smiled.
“We? We what?”
“How did we get so lucky?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jess blushed. “You’re still answering a few more questions when you’re done. I’m not as easily manipulated as those silly boys you used to date.”
“Oh, I know that,” Casey assured. “And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Good! Now, what is the name of the process of division of a somatic cell’s nucleus into two daughter nuclei?”
“Mitosis!”
“See,” Jess winked. “You are a quick study!”
