name: kathryn marie atkins
age: 33
species: werewolf
occupation: atkins pack leader and adult film star
faceclaim: diane guerrero
biography.
Thick humidity and patches of moss covered her childhood home. It was old, barely standing since it’s purchase in the early 1900s. In Delight, the hottest spot was a run down creek with empty beer bottles tossed between a few reckless teenagers. The small town barely held three hundred in its population. Her father worked in construction while her mother stayed at home to mold her children into model Evangelists. Between double shifts and late nights, Maria wasn’t tending of her children. So long as they remained well-behaved and docile, she didn’t make the effort. Instead, a string of different friends ventured to her room. She never caught their names.
A lover of God and extremely well read, the brunette would remain seated on the front row of service each Sunday. While her brother waved an acceptance letter from Harvard, Kat sat in the Arkansas musk near Wolf Creek with a stolen cigarette. Once Rob left, there wasn’t anyone to guide her. The role of both parent and sibling whisked away on a full ride to become a doctor. She didn’t admit the twinge of jealousy that twisted in her gut. He got to leave, but not many did. Her grades were mediocre in comparison. Everything was. The only way she could thrive past her brother’s shadow was through theater.
Maria hyper focused near the end of high school to ensure her daughter thrived. It was a double edge pressure. Kat would make qualms against her mother’s adultry to get away with what she wanted. Exhausted from the peering looks from her mother and the aggravated tone of her father’s as his greasy hands clenched on his fifth beer, Kathryn gave in. After applying around to different universities, the brunette merely waited on her decision. She was never necessarily passionate about school, despite her academic achievements. The ringing leader was NYU. She decided to take a trip, staying with her brother as he showed her around the campus. It was almost too good to be true - - - away from their soul eating parents, living on their own, and creating a new life for themselves. She accepted the offer. She returned home with a newfound motivation towards high school graduation.
After an after party near the outskirts of town, Kat and her best friend, Roy broke into private property. It was a drunken idea to create crop circles that ended with a bite on her collarbone that began and ended her life as she knew it. The fever set in within hours. The other wolf mauled her best friend, leaving him bleeding out between a bottle of Everclear. Rather than stay by her injured friend, the teenager stumbled drunk through corn husks until authorities stopped her by the main road. She was thrown into a squad car as the investigation continued. Eventually, it was swept under the rug. They all concluded that it was some sort of hog attack, not what it really was.
As the summer drew to a close, Kat settled into an undergraduate degree of pre-med biology. She struggled with her new abilities and kept it a secret from everyone she knew. Her first year at university felt like a hiccup. She finally settled into what her parents wanted, but none of it felt right. In a skew of finding herself, she went out on a limb. Her first job in college was nude photography. It lined her up for other opportunities aside from a wannabe SoHo magazine. The photography was just side money at first. She couldn’t afford her medication through the university insurance, and needed some way to pay for room and board.
It wasn’t until her second semester at NYU that she dropped off the grid completely. She cut off all contact from her parents and anyone back home. Her photography progressed into a career in adult film. It fulfilled the checklist in her life: acting, fame, and money. She bounced between traveling around the nation and keeping up with contract jobs in porn. Bouncing from her girlfriend’s apartment, she hitched a ride with a band. Washable was on the rise, stationed on their second studio album. She bummed in the bus for the second half of their tour before stopping back in Los Angeles.
From Los Angeles to New York City, Kat got a taste of what it was like to feel herself. She soon became a pillar in the adult community – striking a name recognizable almost anywhere. Between the twelve hour sets and hectic atmosphere in her friend group, she slowly slipped from recreational to substance abuse. It started off with prescription, popping a few Xans when she was wound tight. Then, it was almost daily. It was an issue well hid even from her current relationship. New York offered more than anything in LA. She kept her head down and worked hard on sets.
In the string of highs and lows, she ended up hooking up with a familiar face from Washable. Rather than keep it casual, it eventually progressed to a full fledged relationship. The star juggled both until one merely favored over the other. As she progressed in the new relationship, so did old demons. He never mentioned her use and she mentioned his. Drinks and pills ran together well until it slipped down the wormhole. Nearing a year celebration of their relationship, Kat fell into heroin. It was cheap and easy to curb stress. It was the high she sought after, warmth gathered in a calm sleep. It should have worked well. She did what she could to hide her use from Jake. It all ended with dead eyes locking as she stretched in a tub. A spoon and a bundle was all the evidence he needed. Rather than confront, he left the apartment with a duffle bag. He was supposed to come back. She focused on the same voicemail for weeks as the come downs were harsher. She couldn’t stop, but the police knocked on her door. His friend, Silas filed a missing persons report. There were never any leads, but vague surveillance footage. It was as if the man simply disappeared.
Dating was scarce and absent. Kathryn struggled with the grasp of her addiction and pushed forward as much as she could to live a sober life. Through the string of a year, she dated a hunter. It ended just as anyone would assume it would, in blood. She buried the body and rushed out of town as soon as she could with her pack. The brunette set sights for Las Vegas. There were no other werewolves in town and she could easily settle into a job in the scene. Her pack slowly grew from two members to four as the years stretched by. Kathryn remains a strong and steady leader, despite her grip on her sobriety. She recently clocked in six years on her sobriety chips and planned to continue forth on her healing. She joined the USC in the past year, focusing her strength on revealing the supernatural to the world. She believed it is what is right for the community as a whole. Not everyone is a monster. She wanted the world to see that first hand.

plot drop one: i gave you all my blood
The moon hung over New York City in a perfect crescent. Autumn meant that the leaves were changing, pumpkins were beginning to decorate some stoops. It was an average evening, nothing was out of the ordinary. After making a business deal, Dax Liulfrssen and Tessa Clarke were setting up the new pack brewery, part hobby and part added revenue to help with the wolves. It was a night that was meant for hard work and joking.
The lights flickered in the brewery, which caused both of them to pause, Dax looked to Tessa with uncertainty. The lights showed no sign of  electrical issues so both resumed working. When they flickered again, they stayed out, and it was then that everything went black for the pair. When they awoke, Tessa was chained by silver and magic to a chair in a balcony looking over an empty warehouse. Dax was coming to his senses at the same time, a scream coming to his throat. It was then that Tessa realized that he had been bitten by a wolf and was being forced to change. She watched, strapped to the chair, as the inner wolf tore Dax apart. She watched him fail to survive his first shift.
Meanwhile, in a separate part of the city, a young witch with weather manipulation was compelled into releasing a serum into the sky, and starting a smog to set over the city. The mist drifted into every corner of the space, forcing werewolves to shift against their will, and forcing vampires to be consumed by bloodlust.
As chaos took over the city, Leo Satellius and Julienne Cromwell set out to attempt to regain control of the space. People were bursting onto the streets, fleeing for their lives from the supernaturals that were running amok. Call of the Void was Leo’s first target, heading into the spot that hosted a mix of supernaturals. The mist had only just begun to setting into the club. The DJ of the night, Silas Kolter, felt his bones snap, his eyes going to Catriona Murray. With a flick of Leo’s wrist, he stunned the young wolf, and opened a portal that dropped Catriona back into her home and to safety.
The moment of distraction, was all it took for Ryder Dawson to let the bloodlust consume him, and with his long time enemy in his sights, he sunk his teeth into Leo. It was Jules and a young witch named Charlotte Erikson that were able to subdue Ryder with magic. From there, Jules and Lottie set out to help humans and witches escape from the supernaturals.
Police were beginning to flood to the scene. In his office, Lieutenant Rhett Hawkins was in the process of pinning his badge to his chest and strapping his gun to his hip when the mist overwhelmed him. Quick thinking on the part of Delilah Reyes resulted in a tranquilized bullet meeting its target, incapacitating the vampire before things got out of hand.
Across town in Patty’s Diner, human waitress Marley Rowan found herself pinned between the gaze of Aurelia Verdugo and Alaina Eisler, both beginning to lose focus and find themselves victims of bloodlust and uncontrollable shifting. Doing her best to help, Eleanor Logan unleashed her powers, setting the curtains ablaze and starting a fire that allowed she and Marley to escape Patty’s Diner with the help of Roy Santos.
Across town in one of the bays at Mileage, James Parker worked on a vehicle, with Sidney Daines and Kathryn Atkins lounging on available workspace. The mist took its time to reach them, and when it did, in the flurry of fighting between the two species James found himself trapped underneath the car they had pushed halfway off of the lift until the next morning, when he was found by the pack.
The disturbance was felt early on by Ari Lefebvre, the feeling of time slipping through her fingers as the plates shifted and crashed, shattering around her. When her eyes opened all the glasses in her house were broken, and she had something of seen what was meant to be hidden. Reaching through time, she was able to locate Virginia Anderson, and the two set out to find Tessa and Dax. Ari was able to cast a time bubble around Gin to keep her safe from the mist. When they found the warehouse, it was too late. Tessa recalled nothing but seeing Dax forcibly changed and a shrouded figure that smelled like a vampire. The scene where she was found confirmed that it was a vampire attack.
It wasn’t until sunrise that the mist lifted and all returned to normal.
OOC Information
If your character was affected by the mist, they have no recollection of it.
Tensions are now high between species. If your character already dislikes a species, it would be heightened, and even more tolerant characters will have an unease of other species.
Dax Liulfrssen was killed.
Leo Satellius has been mortally wounded.
Police will now be chasing the person who was responsible for this.
NPC bios will be released for reference.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: All The Manson Family Actor Cameos
Tumblr media
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood included one of the most infamous cults in history: Charles Manson’s family, with some well-known faces portraying some of the members of this group. Four years after the release of The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino came back with a new film, titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Just like he did with Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino retold real-life events and added some fictional characters to create his own version.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has received some mixed responses and caused plenty of controversy, mostly aimed at the portrayals of real-life figures, such as Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and Bruce Lee (Mike Moh). The film also included some infamous characters like Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) and his “family” – the members of his cult and the ones responsible for Sharon Tate’s murder. Although the film changed that part of history, the whole Manson family made an appearance, and most members were seen briefly when Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) visited Spahn Ranch.
Related: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Cast & Cameo Guide
The Manson cult mostly just appeared in the background of the movie, but still has some recognizable names and faces playing them. Here are all the actors who appeared in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as part of Charles Manson’s family.
Tumblr media
Lynette Fromme didn’t take part in Sharon Tate’s murder, but she did have a criminal record. George Spahn, owner of Spahn Ranch, where the Manson family lived, gave her the nickname “Squeaky”, and as mentioned in the film, she regularly slept with him. Fromme was later convicted for an assassination attempt on President Ford. Dakota Fanning, who rose to fame as a child star in films like I Am Sam and Man of Fire, has taken on a variety of roles ever since, most recently in the series The Alienist, and her role as Squeaky in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is unlike anything she’s done before.
Tumblr media
Pussycat is a composite character: her nickname is based on Kathryn “Kitty” Lutesinger’s, but she’s modeled after Ruth Ann Moorehouse, both Manson family members. Manson would constantly send Moorehouse into the city to seduce men with money and bring them to the ranch, just like Pussycat does with Booth – although he wasn’t wealthy at all. Margaret Qualley has previously appeared in Palo Alto, The Nice Guys, Native Son, and most recently in the miniseries Fosse/Verdon.
Tumblr media
Tex Watson was Charles Manson’s second-in-command and was involved in the murders of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and Wojciech Frykowski, as well as Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Unlike other members, Watson didn’t have a criminal record prior to joining the group. Austin Butler is best known for his roles in teen TV shows such as Zoey 101 and iCarly, and is set to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biographical film about the King of Rock and Roll.

Tumblr media
Patricia Krenwinkel was part of the group involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders, and following the death of Susan Atkins, she is now the longest-incarcerated female in the California penal system. Madisen Beaty played a young Daisy Fuller in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and had roles in The Master, Other People, and most recently in The Clovehitch Killer. She also played Talya Banks in The Fosters, but Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is her biggest movie yet.
Tumblr media
Susan Atkins was another member of the Tate-LaBianca murder group. Like Krenwinkel, she was initially sentenced to death, but was consequently sentenced to life in prison. She died in 2009. In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood she was the one who convinced the rest of the group to go after Rick Dalton instead. Mikey Madison has mostly appeared in short-films and had a role in the drama film Nostalgia. She’s currently part of FX’s Better Things.
Tumblr media
Although she was part of the group that went after Tate and company, Linda Kasabian didn’t take part in the murders – instead, as the only member of the group with a valid driver’s license, she drove the rest to Tate’s house and stayed outside the whole time, which was changed in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood as she fled the scene. She was a key witness during the trial and testified against everyone in exchange for immunity. Maya Hawke made her screen debut as Jo in BBC’s adaptation of Little Women but got her big break as Robin in the third season of Stranger Things.
Tumblr media
Leslie Van Houten was convicted for the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, which took place the night after the Tate murders. She was sentenced to death but was ultimately sentenced to life in prison. Victoria Pedretti is best known for her role as Eleanor “Nell” Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, and will play Love Quinn in the second season of You as well as Dani in The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Related: What Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Changes About The Real Manson Murders
Tumblr media
Catherine Share wasn’t involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders but was convicted for another reason: trying to intimidate a witness against testifying. She later served five years in prison for armed robbery. She has completely disassociated herself from Manson’s family and now speaks out against cults. Lena Dunham is best known as the creator and lead of the series Girls, and among her recent projects is the series Camping, and she's one of the bigger cameos among Once Upon A Time In Hollywood's Manson cult.
Tumblr media
Steve Grogan was sentenced to death for the murder of Donald “Shorty” Shea, ranch-hand at Spahn Ranch, where Grogan lived before the Manson family moved in. However, the judge stated that he was “too stupid and too hopped on drugs” to make decisions on his own, and was then sentenced to life in prison. He was released on parole in 1985. James Landry Hebert has had several small roles in films and TV shows, including Stranger Things season 2, where he played Axel.
Tumblr media
Sandra Good is one of Manson’s most devoted followers. She was indicted for “conspiracy to send threatening letter through the mail” and sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was paroled after serving 10. Good continues to show her loyalty to Manson. Kansas Bowling is also a director, screenwriter, and cinematographer, and is currently working on her second feature film. Her directorial debut, B.C. Butcher, was released in 2016.
Tumblr media
Not much is known about Dianne Lake and her involvement in the Manson family, but she was portrayed in the film by Sydney Sweeney, who has appeared in a number of TV shows such as 90210, Grey’s Anatomy, and Pretty Little Liars. Among her biggest roles are Emaline Addario in Everything Sucks!, Eden Spencer in The Handmaid’s Tale, Alice in Sharp Objects, and Cassie Howard in Euphoria.
Related: No, Cliff Booth Didn’t Kill His Wife In Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Tumblr media
There’s no record on a Manson family member referred to as “Froggie”, nor about the character being a composite one, but Harley Quinn Smith had a small role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as this one. Smith appeared in an episode of Supergirl and in the films Holidays and Yoga Hosers. She will also appear in Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as Millennium “Milly” Faulken.
Tumblr media
Angel is yet another character that is unknown if she’s based on a real person or not. Still, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is Danielle Harris’ return to big films after having mostly small roles in various TV shows and films as well as voice roles (most notably Debbie Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys). Harris is mostly known for playing Laurie Strode’s daughter Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, and Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II.
Tumblr media
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was also a platform for new talents, such as Dallas Jay Hunter, Dyani Del Castillo, and Parker Love Bowling, who played Manson family members Delilah, Pebbles, and Tadpole, respectively. It’s unknown if these characters are based on real life people or not. Hunter has mostly appeared in short films, as well as Parker Love Bowling, who had a role in her sister’s directorial debut B.C. Butcher. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Dyani del Castillo’s first credited role.

Amidst the glamour of the Poisoned Cocktail Party, the Granite Noir programme was launched this evening.
And what a line up it is! Writers, panel discussions, masterclasses, exhibitions and screenings not to mention the inimitable Noir at the Bar, combine to produce a festival that is bigger and sparkles more brightly than ever before.
Ann Cleeves, writer, on August 19, 2015 in London, United Kingdom. For more information about using this image contact Micha Theiner: T: +44 (0) 7525 627 491 E: [email protected] http:///www.michatheiner.com
Ann Cleeves, Chris Brookmyre, Val McDermid, Hugh Fraser and Robert Daws feature in Most Wanted – a series of headline events.
Ann Cleeves, who is the only living crime writer to have two different adaptations on television at the same time – the hugely successful Shetland and Vera, will be joined by Dr James Grieve, Emeritus Professor of Forensic pathology at The University of Aberdeen. A frequent consultant to crime writers, Dr Grieves also appears as himself in Ann’s Shetland novels. The event will be chaired by BBC Radio Scotland presenter Fiona Stalker.
One of the biggest and best-loved names in crime writing, Val McDermid’s novels have been translated into 30 languages and more than 10 million copies have been sold worldwide. Her work was adapted for the highly popular Wire in the Blood, starring Robson Green. Among her many awards are the Portico Prize for Fiction, the LA Times Book Prize and the Cartier Diamond Dagger. The award-winning writer has appeared at two of APA’s Culture Café events in previous years.
2018 will be Christopher Brookmyre’s second appearance at Granite Noir. One of Scotland’s finest, and funniest writers, his headline gig at the inaugural Granite Noir sold out quickly and tickets are expected to fly for February’s event, which will see him share his gift for storytelling as he talks about two of his recent works, Want You Gone and Places in the Darkness.
Hugh Fraser and Robert Daws complete the headliners lineup. The pair will appear together in an event chaired by Fiona Stalker, where they will share their experiences of acting and writing. Known for playing Poirot’s sidekick, Captain Hastings, as well as the Duke of Wellington in Sharpe, Hugh Fraser’s written work includes the latest in his Rina Walker series, Threat. Robert Daws has appeared in Midsomer Murders, New Tricks, Death in Paradise and Father Brown, to give just a few of his screen credits. He co-created and wrote the long running BBC Radio detective series, Trueman and Riley, and writes the Sullivan and Brock novels, set in Gibraltar.

Granite Noir will open with an In Conversation event: The Truth is Out There – Or Is It? with authors Matt Wesolowski and Michael J Malone. This will be followed by Breathtaking Thrillers, with Icelandic and Irish writers Lilja Sigurdarottir and Catherine Ryan Howard. May The (Police) Force Be With You welcomes back author, reviewer, blogger and Scandi crime aficionado Sarah Ward, talking about her new DC Connie Childs novel, A Patient Fury. For this event Sarah will be joined by probation officer-turned crime writer Mari Hannah, whose award-winning novels are now in development with Stephen Fry’s production company. Jorn Lier Horst completes the trio and brings insight into his successful William Wisting series, which follows Wisting’s police career.
Saturday’s schedule kicks off with a Granite Noir Workshop – How to Get Ahead in Publishing, delivered by powerhouse publisher Karen Sullivan, founder of Orenda Books. Karen will give a masterclass for aspiring writers about how the publishing industry works, how to pitch, what to expect if a publisher asks to see your work, whether you need an agent, and what happens after a book is accepted for publication.
Karen Sullivan
Publish and Perish brings together three authors whose stories are set in the cut-throat world of books. Louise Hutcheson, Lucy Atkins and Sarah Stovell will speak about their work and inspirations in this event chaired by festival author Sarah Ward.
Three authors will again take to the stage for Here’s Looking at You, Kids. Melanie McGrath, Colette McBeth and Sanjida Kay will talk about their novels, where children at the heart of the crime.
Next up, discover how two authors juggle work as novelists and screenwriters, and how those disciplines compare and contrast. MJ Aldridge, who writes the bestselling DI Helen Grace thrillers, and Sweden’s Stefan Ahnhem are our authors for Page and Screen on Saturday afternoon.
The second Granite Noir Workshop – How To Plan Your Novel, will take place on Saturday afternoon, with author and former BBC TV news correspondent Colette McBeth. This class demystifies the process of novel writing, helping writers break their story down into manageable chunks. Storyboarding techniques, outlining, character arcs and how to weave suspense into the tale will all be covered.
Granite Noir’s Most Wanted for the Saturday afternoon are Hugh Fraser and Robert Daws, followed by Chris Brookmyre’s headline appearance in the evening.
Saturday will be wrapped up with Late Night Noir in the form of Folk – a new musical play which unites multi-disciplined artists Annie Grace, Alan McHugh and Morna Young with director Dougie Irvine. Co-written, composed and performed by the artists, this is a contemporary folktale – a story of faith and love – exploring human existence in our modern world.
The final day of the festival begins bright and early with Petrifying Psychological Noir. Torkil Damhaug, author of the bestselling Oslo Crime Files series, was a psychiatrist and brings specialist knowledge to his taut thrillers. He is joined by Louise Voss, who has been writing psychological thrillers, police procedurals and contemporary fiction for 18 years.
What follows is two Granite Noir Workshops – Crafting Compelling Characters in the city’s Central Library and Crime in Medieval Aberdeen, in the Town House. Learn how to develop convincing characters and how to avoid the most common character pitfalls with bestselling author and cofounder of Killer Women, Melanie McGrath.  Meanwhile at the Town House, William Hepburn will lead a workshop on historic crimes in the city, including how crime was tried in Aberdeen’s courts 500 years ago, and what kind of punishment people faced if found guilty.
Sunday’s headline event comes from the creator of Shetland and Vera, Ann Cleeves, followed by When Bygones Aren’t Bygones – a panel discussion delivered by Johana Gustawsson and Clare Carson. French native Johana co-authored the bestelling On se retrouva, which drew more than 7 million viewers when it was adapted for television in 2015. Clare, an anthropologist and international development specialist working in human rights, is the daughter of an undercover policeman which brings a special insight to her latest novel The Dark Isle.
And what could be more inviting on a chilly Sunday afternoon than a plate piled high with scones, pastries and dainty sandwiches… but beware! Poisoned High Tea is an event with a twist. Dr Kathryn Harkup, author of A is for Arsenic, will be there to remind us that in the hands of queen of crime Dame Agatha Christie, everything on the menu could become a lethal weapon.
For The Write Investigator, audiences will meet two authors putting fellow writers front and centre to solve crimes. Will Dean, who has lived in Sweden for the past five years, offers a unique take on Scandi noir in his acclaimed debut, Dark Pines. Eva Dolan’s newest book, This is How it Ends, is a gritty standalone thriller that places an idealistic blogger and a seasoned campaigner at the heart of the action.
Who Do You Think You Are? Features two of the most talked-about recent debuts which feature protagonists with unstable identities. Stuart Turton’s The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, has been called “Gosford Park meets Inception, by way of Agatha Christie”, while Felicia Yap has been named one of The Observer’s Rising Stars of 2017.
Rounding off the festival are four brilliant Late Night Noir events and a Poisoned Cocktail Party, where guests can enjoy specially concocted cocktails, all made using ingredients inspired by Agatha Christie’s penchant for poison. Dr Kathryn Harkup, who is also hosting the Poisoned High Tea, will be on hand to divulge expert guidance on the ingredients and how things could go awry should they get into the wrong hands in a Christie novel.
Thomas Enger
A Criminal Mastermind Pub Quiz gives people the chance to pit their wits against some of Granite Noir’s authors, while Words and Music Scandi Style will be a unique evening hosted by Norwegian bestseller Thomas Enger, (be still my beating heart) who will play some of his original piano compositions, as well as talking about his writing.
Finally, it’s Noir at the Bar, an informal gathering of festival and local talent for a night of reading and hijinks.
Also throughout the festival is an expertly guided Granite Noir Walking Tour through Aberdeen’s dark underbelly, an exhibition of Crime Scene Photographs and an Exhibition of Police Wanted Posters.
There are four Young Criminals events for young people and their families: a Writing Workshop with award-winning children’s author Elen Caldecott; Steve and Frandan Take on the World with poet, playwright, novelist and former Edinburgh Makar Ron Butlin and Magic, Mystery and Mayhem with Meg McLaren. There is even a SFX Make-Up Workshop with theatre make-up artist specialist and teacher Raymond Wood, for ages 16+
There are three Crimewatch Film Screenings at Belmont Filmhouse: Double Indemnity, The Big Clock and The Big Easy, as well as Locals in the Limelight which offers a stage to North-east writers for the second Granite Noir. Five of the region’s most talented authors will read extracts from their noir fiction in front of audiences at The Lemon Tree, and there will be pop-up readings by these authors in the Central Library café throughout the weekend.
All week at HMT (until Saturday) will be Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic thriller starring Phil Daniels.
For those who can’t be there in person,  this year Granite Noir has launched a live streaming and pay-per-view service for selected talks, along with exclusive content and interviews.
Aberdeen Performing Arts chief executive Jane Spiers said: “Aberdeen will be in the grip of Granite Noir in February as we bring our crime fiction festival to venues across the city. Our inaugural event earlier this year was a huge success, with multiple sell out events. This year we’re bringing more authors and more variety, with something for people of all passions and ages.
“Brilliant writers from far and wide will share insights into their work in our author talks and panels, while aspiring authors can hone their craft at special writing workshops. We are providing a platform for local authors to share their work with our spotlight readings at The Lemon Tree, and we are holding classic Noir film screenings, a Granite Noir guided walk, our popular Poisoned High Tea and a brand new Poisoned Cocktail Party, as well as crime scene exhibition and a unique words-and-music book launch.”
I think you will agree this is a pretty stunning programme featuring some great masterclasses and fascinating opportunities to delve deeper into the world of crime. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Granite Noir is produced by Aberdeen Performing Arts in partnership with Aberdeen City Library and Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives and Belmont Filmhouse, with support from Aberdeen City Council and Waterstones. Freelance writer and interviewer Lee Randall has programmed the author conversation strand of the festival for the second time. Lee regularly appears at book festivals throughout the UK, and has twice been a judge Bloody Scotland’s McIlvanney Prize.
Events are individually priced and tickets go on sale on the evening of Sunday, November 26. Tickets are available from aberdeenperformingarts.com or by phone on 01224 641122. From Monday (November 27), tickets will also be available in person at the Box Office at HMT and The Lemon Tree. ‘ you can’t stand it at all. ’
“You can’t stand it at all.” Clement breathed out, a shaky laugh hovered close to a whisper. He was baiting her, hoping she would fall for the same trick for the hundredth time. She felt like a fool as the bitter feeling swelled in her throat. He wanted another fight. He wanted bloody knuckles and high pitched screams. She couldn’t give it to him. There was a point where she needed to be better. It took a while to realize that she was hiding behind the same excuses of trauma to explain her morbid actions.
She gripped the edge of his shirt, balling her fingers into a fist against the fabric. “I can’t, but that doesn’t mean you deserve a reaction.”
She released her grip almost as soon as she grasped the fabric. Rather than shoving him off, she took a step back and forced the space between the two. She couldn’t stop thinking about Sofie. Her hands clenching against Kat’s collar once Clement had left, being less of a girl and more of a machine. She wasn’t sure that she even remembered most of their conversations from the past month. Kat ran her tongue over her bottom lip, feeling the cracked skin as a sign of her stress towards this. She didn’t want to have this moment, but here it was on a silver platter.
“You fucked her.” Kat said. It was simple fact. “Maybe this would have deserved a reaction if we were even together. You fucked a girl that just relapsed. After you left, I was the one that had to piece her together while you continued on your own self-hate narrative you love so much. Do me a favor. Fuck my friends sober rather than enabling them. Then again, you were never even good doing that with me. You fucked me and purposely funneled me drugs because in some way, I was better to you. You’re a piece of shit. People may not realize that now, but they will. They’ll hate you as much as you hate yourself.”
