Fluttering Butterflies. A Date Shigezane fanfic.

It’s been a little over a year, since Sakuma Saori came to serve the Date clan as a poison taster. Thankfully that didn’t last long, when Lord Kojuro saw she had gotten the clan Lord to actually eat more than one bowl of food. She immediately became a page to Lord Kojoru and was making meals for Lord Date Masamune and making sure she gets her page work done as well. She recently became a cook in the kitchen, when one of the older cooks had fallen ill and they needed someone to fill in for them. Lord Kojuro gave her permission to do so.

She stood over the stove, stirring a pot of miso soup for dinner, her mind lost in a daydream. Cooks around her were fire roasting fish, steaming vegetables and rice, creating a swirl of motion that she didn’t even noticed a maid named Umeko, staring at her, till she poked her in the cheek, startling her that the spoon clattered against the pot.

“Were you daydreaming, Saori?” she asked with a playful grin.

She adverted her eyes from the maid as a blush crept on her cheeks making them a cherry blossom pink.

Umeko dramatically dropped her jaw in shock. “The ever focused Sakuma Saori was daydreaming with cooking? Now I’ve seen everything.” she giggled. “That’s not like you to go off and daydream while cooking.”

“I know, Umeko,” she groaned, “but I can’t help it. It’s been happening for awhile now and I can’t seem to stop myself from doing it.”

Umeko crossed her arms over her chest, “Well, when did you first realize you were daydreaming during work?” she asked.  

Saori bit her lower lip, she couldn’t tell her that they started when she realized her feelings for a certain samurai warrior.

“Hey, Doll.”

‘Speak of the Devil and he shall appear.’ she thought.

Both women turned their heads towards the door to see Lord Date Shigezane, cousin to Lord Date Masamune and the object of her daydreams.

“Good evening Lord Shigezane, what can we help you with?” Umeko said with cheeriness and obvious devotion. 

Saori glanced at the maid from the corner of her eyes and saw she had a blush and a demure smile on her face. She inwardly sighs, she knew Umeko had a crush on the black haired lord, who wouldn’t. He made everyone feel at ease in his presence and was a jokester, but any girl would fall for his real smile when he showed it and Saori was the only woman in the castle to ever see it when the three friends were together and could relax even in front of her.

Shigezane walked into the kitchen, hands behind his back, his head titled to the side, his eyes moved around the kitchen, looking for something. “I was looking for something that Lord Masamune requested. Maybe one of you ladies have seen it?” he asked with a mischievous tone.

“We’d be happy to help. What are you looking for?” asked Umeko with extra enthusiasm.

Saori rolled her eyes, trying to play off the fact her heart was pounding as he drew closer to them. She passed the spoon off to a now waiting cook. “Does he want his mochi now?” she asked him with a smile.

He shook his head and knelt down in front of her, his eyes never leaving hers. She shot him a confused look. He gave her a cocky grin and then placed his right shoulder against her hips, his arms wrapping around her thighs and lifting her up, causing her upper half of her body to fall over his shoulders like a rag doll.

He started walking away from a stunned Umeko, “Thanks for the help!” he said over his empty shoulder.

Saori finally came to realize that Shigezane was carrying her around the corridors, not even ashamed about it. She started pounding her fists into his back, her legs kicking wildly.

“L-lord Shigezane, put me down! Th-this is very em-embarrassing!” she whined.

“No can do, Doll. I was told to bring you by any means necessary and this is the most enjoyable one I can think of.” he said with happiness.

she thumped him once more on his back, “I don’t think he meant this way!”

“Stop struggling or I will drop you and it won’t be a soft landing for you.” he patted her rear causing her to yelp.

she felt her cheeks heat up, she buried her face in his back, trying to hide her embarrassment. Her fingers dug into his red hakama, her fingernails brushing against his skin under the material, causing him to let out a chuckle.

“Hey don’t do that, Doll, you don’t want me to take you away and attack you instead.” he smiled at her.

She looked up long enough to shoot the back of his head a confused look, only to release her hands from his clothes and cover her face with them once she realized what he meant by ‘attack her’.

They reached the door to Lord Masamune’s office, without even announcing them, Lord Shigezane just walked right in, still carrying Saori over his shoulder, making Lord Kojuro’s eyes widen in disbelief.

“Shingezane, what in the hell are you doing to my page?” he asked him with a reprimanding tone.

He looked over at her lower half, “What? I was asked to bring her, I wasn’t told specifics on how to bring her.”

Saori’s mouth opened in shock, she lifted her hand as high as she could in her position and smacked his ass. He yelped and released her legs, making her fall from his shoulder and onto the floor landing on her hip.

“Ow.” she rubbed her hip, “You said that they told you ‘any means necessary’, were you just teasing me?” she asked. 

He was rubbing where she smacked him, his eyes adverted away from her and were looking up at the rafters, “Maybe.”

She wanted to get up and smack him up side the head, but a quiet laughter made her freeze and look over at the Dragon Lord.

Lord Masamune was laughing at the pair, Lord Kojuro’s face showed that he was in shock that the man was laughing at two bickering children.

“Oh, you thought that was funny, wait till you see my next trick.” Shigezane said with a grin, he started reaching for her, only to have her smack his hand away before he could touch her. 

“Don’t you dare, Lord Shigezane, or else.” she said.

“Or else what? You don’t have anything against me.” he said laughing.

“The next feast, I’ll make sure you don’t get a single bite or a drop of sake. For. The. Whole. Night!” she punctuated each word through clenched teeth.

Shigezane’s smile fell, his eyes grew wide with shock, “You wouldn’t!”

“Try me, I dare you!” she said, staring him down.

He sighed, he held up his hands in surrender, “I know when to make a hasty retreat, Doll. You win this battle.”

“And I will win the war as well.” she countered. That caused the sulking lord to give her his true smile, she took it as her reward. 

She walked over and knelt in front of the other two lords that were watching them with utter disbelief. she lightly bowed to them, “You wanted to see me?”

Kojuro was the first to shake off his dumbstruck look, “Yes, Saori, I need you to go into town and get these supplies that we need.”

“And do some shopping for more zunda-mochi.” Masamune added.

She bowed again, “Yes, my Lord.” she said.

“Shigezane,” he said strenly.

“Yes, Masamune?” he replied with a grin.

“You shall accompany Saori to town. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to our little page here, now would we?” said Kojuro with a smile.

“Gah, please forget about that. It was a long time ago and I thought I was helping.” she complained.

“So wait, you’re putting me on babysitting duty?” Shigezane asked.

Saori shot him a glare, “Don’t think of it as babysitting, think of it as a...” Kojuro started saying.

“A date.” Masamune finished,

Saori whipped her head back toward the other two men, eyes as big dinner plates. She could feel her cheeks heat up with a blush.  ‘A DATE/ WITH LORD SHIGEZANE?’ her mind shouted.

“All right! Sounds like fun!” 

She whipped her head back towards the man who sounded like he was given the keys to a life time supply of sake. She wanted to protest but he mouth just opened and closed like a fish. Her mind was lost in a daze, she didn’t even see Shigezane move towards her.

“C’mon, up you go.” he said, picking her up from under her arms. That brought her back to reality.

“L-l-lord Shigezane, I can get up on my own!” she batted his hands away.

He grinned at her, grabbing her hand and taking off out of the office. She could be heard saying she didn’t need to have someone hold her hand like a child and other things along those lines.

 Lord Kojuro looked at the door a little worried, “Was it alright to send him with her?” he asked his dear friend.

“They need a little push.” was all Lord Masamune said.

Later in the day, in town, Saori and Shigezane were laughing and enjoying their time out of the castle. They had purchased all the supplies that Masa and Kojuro needed and they were now walking around wasting time looking at other shops before they had to go food shopping.

All while they were walking Lord Shigezane still help her hand, his excuse was so she wouldn’t wander away from him. She thought to herself ‘Why would I wander away from you?’ 

They were heading to go purchase the food before Shigezane stopped and pulled her towards a shop that sold all sorts of clothes and women’s accessories. Saori figured something caught his eye and he was checking it out. 

“Have a look around Saori, I’ll be over here and don’t leave with out me.” he said with a joke.

“Yeah, yeah. I won’t leave.” she giggled.

She walked over and started looking at obi pins. Each one was as beautiful as the next, some had beautiful sakuras, kigikus, botans and sumires, but her absolute favorite was the wasurenagusas. With their blue petals and yellow centers and each one came in a little cluster. They made her think of the man that has been with her most of the day.

She looked over and saw him looking at hairpins. He was so engrossed in what he was doing, she had an idea of sneaking up on him and startling him. She slowly made her way over, trying to not make a sound. She was almost close enough to reach out at arm’s length and touch the backside of his head, when he lifted up his arm, blocking whatever it was he was holding.

“Ah, this is the one. This will definitely suit her, my sweetheart.”

Her blood ran cold, as if someone dumped cold water on her head. She should’ve known he had someone, she should’ve known he wouldn’t see her as a woman, that he only saw her as friend. She slowly backed away from him, before he turned around, and headed for the door to wait outside. She felt hot tears prick the back of her eyes, but she couldn’t cry here, not yet. 

He emerged from the store, looking at her with a stern face, “I thought I said not to leave.”

“I didn’t, I’m still here. I just needed some air.” she said with a flat tone, without looking at him.

His brows knitted, “Did something happen?” he asked.

“If something did, you would’ve heard it, right?” she replied, her voice the same.

He still wasn’t convince. “Well anyways, let’s go get the food and let head back, it’s getting pretty late.” he grabbed her hand and started walking.

Her shoulders tensed, she bit the inside of her cheek and pulled her hand out of his and was walking ahead of him, leaving him flabbergasted.

“HEY!” he shouted as he realized she was leaving him in the dust and was running after her. He grabbed her shoulder to stop her only to have her shrug him off. “What the hell is your problem?”

She whirled around, anger plastered on her face, “You are! You don’t go off and hold another woman’s hand when you already have someone you love because I know I won’t want my lover to hold another’s hand.” she turned back and continued walking.

She then felt him grab her wrist tightly and drag her down an empty ally way. She tried to dig her heels into the ground, but that only made him hold on to her tighter.

“L-lord Shigezane, what in the world are you do-” she didn’t get the chance to finish her sentence. 

He had pushed her up against the building and latched his lips on to hers. She stared at him wide eyed, till she started relaxing into his kiss. They dropped their bags. his hands cupped her cheeks and her’s grasped at his chest. 

He pulled away, looking into her eyes, “If I had someone else, I wouldn’t have been happy to be out on a date with you, I wouldn’t have made you laugh so much, I wouldn’t tease you as much as I do.”

“But i-in the s-shop...you said that something...would suit your sweetheart.” she said breathless.

He smiled and chuckled, placing his forehead against her’s. “It was suppose to be a surprise, but now I have to give it to you.” his hand left her cheek to reach into his hakama pocket. He pulled out a pretty hairpin that was a glass cluster of wasurenagusas. Saori’s eyes grew wide.

“How?” she asked.

“How did I know these are your favorite?”

She nodded her head.

“You have no idea how long I’ve been watching you, do you?” 

She shook her head. 

He chuckled, “I’ve been unable to keep my eyes off you ever since you laid that retainer flat on his face back when everyone found out you were a woman. You’ve peaked my interest and I wanted to get to know you more.” he pulled her hair, so he could place the hairpin in her hair. “Saori, I’ve fallen in love with you, will you accept me?” his eyes searched her’s.

Tears threaten to fall, she smiled and nodded, “Yes, Lord Shigezane, I’ve fallen in love with you as well.” tears started to spill, his thumb swiped them away as they fell. 

He leaned down and kissed her again, his arms wrapped around her in an embrace. She wrapped her arm around his neck, pulling him more towards her. He pressed her more onto the wall, his kiss getting deeper, his tongue teased her lips. She let a small gasp escape her lips only to give him the opportunity to thrust his tongue into her mouth and tangle with hers. His hips nestled against her’s, showing her how much he wanted her.

She pulled away from the kiss, turning her head towards the opening to the ally, his lips latched on to her neck, gently sucking and nipping. “L-l-lord...Shigezane, someone...will see us.” she gasped.

He groaned and let his head fall into her shoulder, “You’re right, Doll.” he moved his head up and kissed her cheek, “Then we’ll just have to finish this at a later time.” he showed her a cheeky grin. She smiled back at him, shaking her head, lightly swatting his chest.

I have pretty severe diagnosed anxiety, like a lot of different kinds. I have diagnosed clinical ocd, diagnosed depression, and diagnosed ptsd. I take medication for them though!

I do! It’s nice, and I like how my eyes look with eyeliner, it brings them out. I’m also irish so I’m naturally very rosy and blushy and I like the even skin tone I get from makeup. Also, the acne. But it’s only on rare occasions I actually wear it, since I’m pretty bad at it and I’m just comfortable without it
