"The Dragonguard disbanded in disgrace. Many of its members sought glory in other pursuits, but for those of us who hoped for redemption: our failure to protect the Emperor was a mistake too great to rectify in one lifetime."
--Chevalier Renald explaining that the members of the Dragonguard took various paths to extend their lives to hopefully earn absolution someday.

i am of the opinion that some tsaesci live for extended periods of time, but in the same way that like, the nord demons inexplicably lived for hundreds of years despite being nords. they are profound outliers. powerful tsaesci warriors who fought against dragons had extended lifespans, but to them, the reason they kept on living was to keep hunting dragons until the day the hunt is finally over with or they die in battle. it's kind of a solemn duty type thing and not a heehee i am an immortal overlord thing.
notably versidue-shaie and savirien-chorak were NOT powerful tsaesci warriors who fought against dragons. as per jiub and shal's headcanon, versidue got in touch with the telvanni about extending his lifespan through magic for political "not letting the empire instantly fall apart when his son who hates him inherits" reasons. and a side of "maybe one day i can reconcile with my son and make him understand that i literally had nothing to do with killing his boyfriend" reasons. and even this, versidue did this with that same culturally inherited sense of "i cant die yet, i have a duty that requires me to keep living." chevalier renald and the other dragonguard who became vampires did that too for similar reasons. they basically surrender their lives as mortal people in order to live on in the tireless service of some important burden

Personally, I like to think that when a vampire in Skyrim does drink from a victim, there are side effects for the victim. Otherwise what's the point of a spooky vampire in a game? It could be the victim seeing the vampire in their dreams, during the day feel as though someone is watching them or hear whispers speaking to them, or just illness in general. The more the vampire returns to that victim, the more the side effects occur, leading to the eventual death or turning of the victim
And so, we have to look at out vampire OCs and their spouses. No doubt a lot of spouses would allow their vampire love to feed off them, but with these risks, would their vampire want to?
Dravynea is the first person in a very long time that Rinyu has known true romantic love from. The only last relationship he had where someone truly loved him was with Chevalier Renald, way back during Tiber Septim's rise to power. But that was often strained as Tiber had thrown Rinyu into the fire as the head of the Tharn Family. His life became nothing but drama, plots, and foiled assassinations. He lost had lost who he was, and thus he and Renald drifted apart.
Rinyu has never been a real physically intimate lover, nor a smooth talker at that. He does show affection with hugs, kisses, and a whole slew of sarcastic yet loving remarks. But as you can imagine, those traits don't give one the best advantage in the dating pool.
With Dravynea, Rinyu has come to know love in a romantic, unconditional way, been able to actually be married, and to be a parent, as they adopted their two daughters together. He truly can't think of an individual that has ultimately changed his way of life and thinking so drastically other than her. She brought him back, the real him. Accepting of his profession, his vampiric blessing and clan, and even tries to pretend she can keep up with his family insanity! So far, Rinyu refuses to feed off her, as it's "in bad taste to feed off loved ones" in his opinion.
So what happens down the road? Will he really be able to let her age and die, leaving him alone again?

Ever wanted to know who the ruler of a certain Orlesian city is? Need connections for your Orlesian OC, but weren’t sure where to start? Look no further! Here I have attempted to compile a list of the named & notable Orlesians found in the Dragon Age games, primarily those that are alive during the events of the games & tie-in novels ( although a few historical figures are also included for reference. ) Note that it only includes individuals; families that are referred to by the family name, but with no individuals singled out, are not included, nor are unnamed NPCs. Characters that live in Orlais but would likely identify with heritage from elsewhere are not included ( i.e. Josephine would be considered Antivan rather than Orlesian. ) Lastly, some characters may fit under more than one subheading, but are only listed once ( i.e. Gaspard is both royalty and a chevalier, but is only under the former heading. )
Shoutout to Erran for the Fereldan and DAO NPC List, which served as inspiration to compile a similar reference for Orlais. Given the scarcity of Orlesian blogs in the rp fandom, this won’t serve as a masterlist of rpers, but I can make a second list if that interests anyone!
List will be periodically updated, as it’s by no means complete yet! If you notice a particular character is missing, feel free to reblog and mention the name(s) in a comment / the tags on a reblog, or send it in a message. Reference a source if possible ( game, war table mission, book, etc. ) And with that ...
