everyone should go see stars on ice if they can because live skating is amazing. but actually everyone should go see stars on ice because in the second act keegan messing does a horny duet with madi chock where they steal a handkerchief from each other’s butt pockets as a means of seduction. and immediately following this keegan is a security guard in the newest installment of bock’s “madi is a sexy ________” series (madi is a sexy alien, madi is a sexy building, etc) where madi is a sexy jewel thief and evan is a 1900s-style detective. it genuinely felt like something out of a skating mad libs it was so random and i need everyone to know that this is a thing that exists and i did laugh so hard i cried while watching it. everyone should go see stars on ice.

Worlds wrap up part 1
I know - I’ve been home for ages from Worlds. Life caught up with me. Don’t worry I’m not going to go though all of the dancers. I wanted to re-read the enhanced protocols since I was only glancing at the tech stuff and trying to stay in the moment and enjoy the skating.
Chock & Bates - Neither of their programs did much for me this year. Her Free Dance dress was the highlight of their programs for me. I just don’t get the hype about them. Not in a ‘you should retire’ way but in a ‘they seems really over scored’ on everything but lifts.
Gilles & Poirier - I saw them at Skate Canada and their programs were good, but they really improved by Worlds. For once they had an outstanding RD. Notable from the protocols that their pattern step was a 2, their step sequence was a 2/3, and their twizzles were a 3/3 in the RD. I was sitting too far away to know, but I didn’t see any major bobbles. In the FD their one foot got a 2/2 and the step sequence a 3/2. You just can’t give away points like that this close to the Olympics. Love Paul’s FD costume. Really striking.
Fear & Gibson - Last Olympics their programs were cute in a ‘they will be a crowd favourite and stay in 8-10th place’ kind of way. There’s no way they deserve the marks they are getting or the generosity I. Marks on major mistakes when others were heavily penalised. In the RD (the better of their two programs IMO) they got a 1 on the pattern step. The step sequence was a 3/2. These are not the marks of bronze medalists. Medalists shouldn’t have a 1 in anything. In the FD they lost a level on the twizzles, their step was a 3/2, and their one foot a 2/3. I was shocked the curve lift was as high as a 3. It definitely looked lower and should have impacted component scores.
Guinard & Fabbri - Unfortunately this went as I feared it would. Judges nit picking. Again I wasn’t close enough to see footwork, but a 1 in the pattern step? Twizzles 3/2? Step sequence 2/3? And then in the FD a 3 on a lift, 3/2 on the one foot, and a 2/3 on the step sequence. Those sound life the levels of a terrible program, but it wasn’t. I hope they bury any memory of their robot program and go back to a program that highlights their smoothness and skating skills.
Carreira & Ponomarenko - I hoped that they might be able to come in 6th here (given the naysayers in the fandom it sounded like they would do well to hold on to top 10) and I was thrilled with their finish here. In a field with a lot of mistakes and inconsistency, they were rock solid in both programs. Their RD isn’t my favourite (though how could they beat last year’s ?!?). They had the top mark for their twizzles! However, their lift was 7th. In the FD my biggest disappointment was that Christina’s board kick was gone! I think the ISU should have been willing to sacrifice the boards for that great moment. Their base value was the highest and I couldn’t help shaking my head seeing theirs and F/G’ technical and PCS marks next to each other. Can the judges continue to prop up F/G through the next quad? I’m sad to see the Carmen program go. It grew so much through the season.

Note
did chock and bates really get lvl 4 in all the elements on their free dance at worlds?
Q #210:
Hi anon,
Short answer is no. They should have lost levels on the diagonal step sequence, twizzles, and one foot turn sequence. However, for the first time all season EB finally achieved a full lunge position for their SlLi.
Tumblr media
DiSt:
MC: flat on S-step RBO exit, no sustained RBO on rocker exit
EB: hopped RBI counter, flat on rocker RBO exit
SyTw:
Both pirouette on CW twizzles, MC pirouettes just 2 rotations in and has 2 rotations with no linear movement, should have been a level and GOE reduction
OFT:
Both hop RBI counter (EB more egregiously) and scratch their RFI brackets on exit
I also want to note that a fall has ALWAYS been defined as a serious error. It’s frankly the one thing that has always unambiguously been defined as a serious error. It doesn’t have to be on an element. As of 2010 In ice dance “a loss of balance or stumble” counts for a 0.5 deduction in SS per partner, so not even a fall, necessitates a cap. So, their PCS of 57.22 should have been maxed out at 52.50 (8.75/mark). Even by the new PCS standards (composition, presentation, skating skills) where the error is penalized less harshly and assuming that otherwise their PCS was worthy of 10s (which… no comment) and should have been capped at 9.50, France, Switzerland, and Estonia all gave 9.75s. France and Switzerland in skating skills.
I tried to make a video but Adobe is currently angry with me so I'm putting it on the back burner unless people are interested.

2022 Skate America entry #7
Short Dance
McNamara/Spiridonov(USA)
Thoughts: As much as I miss Quin, I am so happy Loraine found a new partner. When she was with Quin, I was always much more focused on him and rarely noticed Loraine. Now I feel like I pay much more attention to Loraine because I don’t like Anton very much at all.
Lauriault/Le Gac(CAN)
Thoughts: I don’t like Roman. I don’t find him attractive. I don’t like his outfit. But I try not to let my opinion of Roman affect my opinion of Marie. Marie is lovely.
Demougeot/Le Mercier(FRA)
Thoughts: Loicia lost a little bit of her character with the ending pose
Harris/Chan(AUS)
Thoughts: Holly, I still love you very much. But ever since Jason got facial hair, I have found I don’t care for him anymore.
Muramoto/Takahshi(JPN)
Thoughts: Kana, love you look gorgeous. Daisuke, the only part I really loved was the ending pose.
Soucisse/Firus(CAN)
Thoughts: Carolane’s earrings were pretty. But I wasn’t impressed with this program
Hawayek/Baker(USA)
Thoughts: I loved Kaitlin’s pink and her polka dots.
Chock/Bates(USA)
Thoughts: Madison’s face still reminds me of Meryl Davis. I don’t like it.
Free Dance
Golubstova/Bielbrov(UKR)
Thoughts: this was so good. And Kyril had a much better outfit here than in the short program.
Soucisse/Firus(CAN)
Thoughts: well done dears.
