Cot death(s)? - Kids
Just putting thoughs on the record on who may die by my logic (could be very wrong). Also might be fun to for me to check later when cot is released (if I'm not drowning in tears!). Spoilers for previous books obviously.
Okay so I'm assuming when cc says someone we love dies she means a TLH character, however TID characters could be fair game:
James &Cordelia: are fine I'm fairly confident they r main characters
Lucie: could die/ marks stripped all that stuff but tbh I think worst case scenario is that she fleas with Jesse somewhere for life. I don't think cc would do more damage to poor Jesse.
Jesse: same as above, seriously he is killed, raised and then killed ? Nah. However he still could be exiled or something etc.
Matthew: tbh he is set up for something to happen to him, we don't get povs(he's thinking things apparently) and has no love interest (also not saying he needs one). But anything could happen 🤷‍♂️
Christopher: see I've debated this and whilst could be easier to kill off, after him getting injured in ChOG I'm not so sure ( i have a rule that if their life has been threatened once it can't or shouldn't be again) cuz it could be *slightly* cheap.
Grace: i have no clue, i can't even say her presence on the cover will save her! She will have a big role I'm sure. If i had to pick a side maybe live because most ppl will live but...meh
Thomas: similar to what i mentioned under Kit earlier - we were scared of the 'dangerous' shenanigans he was up to in COI, plus because his sister died I don't think 2 deaths in one household is fair - especially when you have 5/6 or so households to choose from.
Alastair: I'll admit I'm biased i rlly want him to survive. I don't think his odds are horrendous, but it is very possible he could die - especially when i think he has an important charavhter arc ( expect an essay if he does die on here). But the whole Cordelia revenge/morn quote worries me (could be a lot of ppl tho)
Charles : ah yes, what is there to say. Honestly i think he survives, i would 100% think he would die if he hadn't of almost died in COI. Anything is possible tho. I will say that if he lives Matthew may have a greater change if dying.
Anna: tbh i think cc like her and Ariadne. It is very possible that Anna could die since she hasn't really change much between the two books previous, tho she could open up in this book.
Ariadne/Kamala: i think that she will survive, there is no point in killing her off. She has developed much and now will be even more free in COT. Maybe she moves in with Anna permanently, maybe she gets Anna's appartment if Anna dies?
Overall i will be shocked if Cordelia, James or Ariadne die. Of the others on this list probably one will, if not two ( definitely not unless Charles is one?)
I may do parents/ adults soon if I'm bored.
Go néirí an t-ádh leat!

In TID Gabriel says that Gideon is an unsung comic genius and I think he 100% passed that on to Thomas.
That boy is the funniest mf in the series omg.
A child raised by him AND Alastair Carstairs? The comedic power it would hold.

I think part of the reason Alastair kissed Thomas at the infirmary right after Thomas said "Alastair, I love you- but you know that-" is because he's been waiting for someone to say those three words to him for so long and Thomas said them so plainly and truly like Alastair always wished them to be said.

I know everyone loves Alastair because of Chain of Thorns, but I remember what some of y’all said about him during the Chain of Gold era. I will always remember. I have loved that man the moment I met him.

okay something that's been bothering me for some time is that Cordelia was born in 1885, the same year as Thomas. and like Thomas, that should mean she's eighteen in tlh, which takes place entirely in 1903. but she's 17 in ChoG (I think??) which is fine, since her birthday could just be in the later part of the year. but she never has a birthday, never once is it mentioned Cordelia, the main character, turned 18 and therefore reached the age of majority (which would have been relevant in choi when Thomas was patrolling alone for example). but chot ends at the end of 1903 so even if her birthday is the 31st of December she still shouldve turned eighteen.
and the reason this is important is shadowhunters can only become parabatai in childhood aka before the age of eighteen. but Cordelia & Lucie's parabatai ceremony happens in March (?) 1904 and Cordelia definitely should've aged out by then... Also if you look on the wiki it does say the cut off is nineteen but that's wrong, in the codex it says eighteen & I trust that more tbh

I’ve never much been a fan of the name ‘Henry’ but when I hear it as ‘James Morgan Henry Herondale’ it just sounds hotter

Congratulations to Chain of Thorns for giving us the only accurate representation of an Irish woman in a while!
Brigit Daly resisted the enchantment of a Prince of Hell because "nobody tells me what to do" then proceeds to slaughter a horde of demons and get struck by magical lightning that makes her age backwards.
I feel so seen:)

i think what a lot of people who read the last hours & didn’t like james don’t get is that he isn’t himself in chain of gold & chain of iron. the gracelet not only alters but also suppresses a big part of his personality. in the short stories prior to tlh is when we actually see who jamie really is and now that it’s off of him we will see more of what he’s actually like and his character & identity in chain of thorns

Thomas writes songs about Alastair in his head, we all just know it. They're sweet and revering, a potion made of love and trust.
Now with Cot out, let me add the bitter, more angsty version: Thomas writing songs about Kit.
After things settle down and they have time to process what's happened, Thomas is a trainwreck, he's gasping and crying at the funeral and he cannot pick up the shreds of his heart, left beyond repair and scattered on the ground to cut at him each time he breathes. His sister died. His world collapsed. He tried to build himself back, slowly, with cuts on his hands, just for the world to crush him under the sole of its fit.
So he joins patrol after patrol. This evil is different, but what does it matter? It came from the same source. So Thomas fights.
At some point Alastair confronts him the way he deals with the agony is destroying him, gnaws at him, and it must stop. He encourages him to find an alternative. He guides Thomas to bed very gently that night, telling him he loves him and that he must try, that there's always a different way.
He eventually settles on poetry.
Thomas's way of grief is coming up with songs and poems in his head about what he feels.
Thomas made them in his head for some time. He told no one and shared them with no one. He didn't think they were very good, or that he had a poetic mind as good as others. But he does it anyway if only to try and pour his pain into the world and set it free.
The sharp agony, the feel he is stumbling on his own without Kit, without him to make him laugh and smile, how much he misses him and how the world seems lacking without him by his side. He breaks down and pieces himself together every time, all the time. Because like a broken clock, time has flown differently since his cousin, the brother of his heart, has passed.
Alastair returns from patrol one day to find Thomas sitting on the couch of their flat, face in his hands, a single piece of paper with barely a sentence written on it. He can only rock Thomas, lull him to restless sleep full of bright lilac eyes full of laughter he used to see all the time.
On other nights, Thomas is drowning in pages of pages of words he wishes he could say. Regret, for all the times he listened half-heartedly. Anger, that Kit slipped so fast from life's delicate hands. He isn't mad at his Kit, he is furious at life, that let the kindest and brightest man he knows slip away. Wistfulness, for he wishes he could hear the laugh of his cousin - no, brother - one more time, like he used to do all the time.
He finally shows one to Alastair. And he has to look away because the crushing sadness that settles on his lover's face is just too much to bear.
Alastair composed melodies to some of Thomas's poems, each note stark and bare and full of meaning, with the thought of a hole in his and his loved ones' heart that would be empty forever.
They play one of them to the family on Kit's anniversary day. Cecily and Gabriel's sobs can be heard starting the second verse, Anna is hugging herself, and Thomas is in shreds. They all are. What can be said, now, that would make it better?
Nothing, Thomas knows, while the notes and the words he wrote are echoing around them, surrounding them. Nothing will change the fact the the brother of his heart is gone.
