*****
The hotel bar wasn’t very crowded. Considering these people took any excuse to get together and drink, you were pleasantly surprised to be able to sit alone and relax. Some slow, sensual song played from the DJ stand, people who were way too drunk were dancing together on the dance floor. You crossed one leg over the other and leaned back in your seat as you looked away from the crowd and to your drink.
You hadn’t wanted to come, but your company was making some strides and sacrifices had to be made. And since you were one of the few Y/L/N board members in the city, it fell to you to be the public face. A fact that you would have loathed a few years ago.
This job should have gone to your sister. She was the one that enjoyed all of this rubbing elbows and kissing ass. You preferred to be in the office with the scientists and engineers who were working on your sims.
As much as you would have preferred not to be paying any attention to what was going on around you, you did find yourself people watching. There was a man on the floor that had a woman who was clearly an escort on his arm. The woman looked bored but was sure to smile and whisper in his ear every now and then. There were probably a few escorts in the room right now actually. It was prime real estate in this crowd. There were more than a few men with wedding rings on and their dates were suspiciously ringless.
Off in the corner holding court with a number of investors was one James Delos. The man’s Scottish accent could be heard almost all the way over to where you were seated.
Delos was one of the few companies who could give your company a run for its money. While Delos had Westworld and the beginning of a few other parks in the works, your company was working on something a little more mainstream and available. And very top secret.
Your eyes moved over the form of a man as he walked to the far side of the bar, putting his glass on the top and motioning to it with two fingers to ask for it to be topped off. You barely had a chance to look away and pretend like you hadn’t been staring at him when he turned his head your direction.
What went through his mind when he looked at you? The black dress you wore was flattering, the red heels maybe a little more daring than you usually went for but you had been trying to make a statement. And from the numerous looks you’d gotten tonight, you were pretty sure you’d made that statement ten times over. The low back and the slit up the length of the skirt to mid-thigh made a pretty picture as well.
The man at the end of the bar thanked the bartender once his drink was filled. Then with the glass in his hand, he turned and headed straight for you. You felt a thrill start to go through you as you looked him over.
The self indulgent smirk on his lips played well with the whole package. He had the hair that was pushed back, the collar of his shirt unbuttoned to show just a hint of tanned skin. His suit was tailored to him and every inch of it fit him just right. Not only did the man look like sex, but he knew it. You were pretty sure it wouldn’t take much to get any man or woman in this party and yet he was looking at you like there wasn’t anyone else in the room.
You felt a little like a fly trapped in a spider’s web and you loved every second of it.
“Beautiful woman like you shouldn’t be over here by yourself,” he said as he approached, gesturing to the seat next to you. After your nod, he settled down into the seat and looked you over. “This your first event with the corporate blood suckers?
You made a point of re-crossing your legs, letting the fabric shift and pull to show the slit on the side closest to him. It revealed a smooth expanse of your thigh that you pretended not to notice. He clocked the movement with a swipe of his tongue against his bottom lip.
How you would love to chase that tongue with your own.
“Just got to the city,” you said instead of admitting the truth. If there was a chance that this man didn’t know who you were, you weren’t about to spoil it for him.
His smile widened as he leaned forward, bracing one arm on the bar.
“Well if you need a tour guide, I’ve lived here my whole life.”
You licked your lips, careful not to smudge your lipstick. You’d come to this party to do some networking and put some faces to names, not to hook up with an attractive stranger.
A very attractive stranger. Goddamn had someone created him for you?
That thought made you hesitate for just a second before you continued with your little game.
“And how many stops are on this tour?”
He leaned in a little closer, the air brushing over your lips when he exhaled.
“I can think of at least one,” he said as his eyes moved over your face, lingering on your lips.
Oh he was good. And as much as you needed to stay here and meet some more people, you knew that you didn’t want to. How could you go about the night meeting people and shaking hands when you knew this man wanted you? You wanted to go home with this virtual stranger and get rid of some of that tension that had been plaguing you lately. It’d been a while since you’d had some fun.
You moved to stand, downing the last of your cocktail. When you looked back at him, the man was smirking at you like he knew what your answer was going to be. You raised an eyebrow in a clear challenge.
“I’m ready for my tour,” you said in a low voice, stepping a little closer to him.
His smirk grew as he stood up. He threw back his drink and put the glass on the top of the bar. Then he gestured for you to lead the way. You cleared the chair but barely got a few feet away before an arm was around your waist.
“Let me taste you first,” he said as he pulled you back to his chest, turning you to face him so that he could cup your jaw. “These lips are going to star in a lot of my fantasies after tonight.”
You grinned, tilting your face up to accept a kiss from him. You already knew without a doubt that it’d be the hottest kiss you’d ever received.
His lips barely brushed yours when you heard an accented voice at your side.
“Ah Logan,” James Delos said, a frown on his lips as he looked between the two of you, “if you’re done here, we’ve got to get back to the office and go over a few things before the morning meeting.”
The man didn’t even acknowledge your presence. Once he had said his piece, he turned and left as if he expected to be obeyed immediately.
Logan. You looked at the man that had been so close to kissing you. He still looked like he wanted to actually. He tilted his head a bit and looked you over.
“I think you’ll be worth pissing off my father,” he said as he tugged you in a little closer. “What do you think? Wanna come home with me?”
Alarm bells were screaming in your head. You put your hand on his chest and turned to look in the direction James had just gone.
“You’re… you’re Logan Delos.”
It wasn’t a question. You thought you’d lost the ability to be surprised, but that just about did you in.
You had been about to go home with Logan Delos, the son and heir apparent to Delos, one of your rival companies.
It was almost laughable. How horrible was your luck?
“I am,” he admitted with a nod, his smirk never wavering. “And who are you?”
That alarm bell was still screaming in your head. You needed to get out of there without being caught. There was a back entrance that you could use, but you’d have to get away from Logan first.
“Did you drive here?” He looked confused so you playfully clarified, “I need to say goodbye to someone and then I’ll meet you in the parking lot. I was just wondering if you drove?”
His grin grew into a downright sinful smile. Maybe it was a good thing you weren’t going home with him; you weren’t sure that you’d ever get enough of him.
“I drove. I’ll be waiting for you,” he added with a look that was so full of promise that your skin started to tingle.
You pushed away from him playfully, a teasing smile on your lips when he tried to dive in to claim that kiss that you were both denied moments ago. Instead you shooed him away and turned with your clutch in your hand, fingers so tight around it that you were worried it might break.
When you looked over your shoulder, it was to see him heading towards the front lobby. At least he went along with it.
As you walked towards the back exit, you grabbed your phone from your clutch and ordered a car to come pick you up. As long as Logan didn’t come look for you in the next ten minutes, you’d get away and still be able to save face.
You almost felt bad for him. Sure you knew the stories about Logan Delos, the reckless son of James Delos. Wasn’t it your sister who said that Logan Delos was a playboy first and a businessman second? If you’d gone home with him, you’d be another notch in his belt. A very expensive belt that you had to imagine would feel good around your wrists…
No! You weren’t going down that road.
He’d be disappointed in losing the chance to get laid, but this was the only way it could be. The heir of Delos and the heir of Y/L/N hooking up? You could only imagine the headlines.
You could only imagine the level of shrill your sister’s voice would get if she knew what you’d almost done.
You didn’t want to imagine her potentially violent reaction to finding out how much you wanted to pretend like you didn’t care that your last name was Y/L/N. It was bad enough that you almost went home with Logan, but to acknowledge the fact that you still wanted him? Even after such a short meeting?
That man was trouble. At least it’d be a good while before you ran into him at another one of these parties. That would give you time to figure out how to explain it.
And maybe give you time to build up a resistance to the man’s charm.
------
“I’m really not interested,” you tried again as you filled through the papers on your desk, frowning when she huffed. “I’m not kidding Jo, I’m not interested in being pimped out to your friends.”
“Fraser is a hedge fund manager–”
“Oh God, his name is Fraser?!”
“–and he does really well for himself,” she added, ignoring your outburst. “I’m not pimping you out to anyone Y/N, I’m trying to set you up with someone.”
You rolled your eyes so hard that you were pretty sure you strained them. Jo was the opposite of those girls that got in a relationship and wanted everyone else to be in one too. She got out of a relationship and wanted everyone else to be in a happy relationship.
She wanted to live vicariously through others you guessed.
“I’m not out there to look after you,” she said in that low, plaintive tone that made you start to swear. “I just don’t want you to be alone and dealing with all of this.”
“Don’t pull the big sister card on me Joanna Y/L/N! You only get to use that once a year.”
She laughed and you leaned back in the chair. It’d been a long evening and you had known that answering a phone call from her this late would only lead you to trouble. You rubbed the bridge of your nose before you closed your eyes.
“One date Jo. I mean it. One date and he gets thirty minutes not to bore the shit out of me or else I’m faking a work emergency.”
She squealed so loud you had to pull the phone away from your ear.
“Yes! I’ll tell him right away. Do you mind if I give him your number so he can reach out? Or I can give you his number? Oh, I’ll send you each other’s numbers and you can reach out if you want to.”
Jo babbled for a while longer before you were finally able to end the call. You loved your sister and you appreciated her meddling when it was for your happiness, but sometimes you wished you could tell her no. Ever since you were little, Jo used you like her very own plaything. She was always so excited when she could guide your life into what she thought it should be.
You glanced around the office you were in and sighed. Not for the first time you thought about how it should be Jo in this office.
A date with one of your sister’s friends—Fraser, Jesus Christ his name was Fraser?—was going to be excruciating, but you’d do it to make her happy. You fully expected to be bored to tears before the thirty minutes were up so you could bow out gracefully.
Honestly since coming to the city to take the reins of Y/L/N, you hadn’t given much thought to dating. You were content to just focus on work and deal with everything else later.
The memory of an almost kiss with a ridiculously hot Logan Delos flashed in your mind’s eye but you shut the box that you kept that memory in and pushed it out of sight. It’d been two weeks since that event and you hadn’t seen Logan again. All in all, you’d only talked to him for maybe ten minutes? Doubtfully even that long. He’d probably forgotten you shortly after you didn’t show up at the car that night.
He probably had a different girl in the car before he left the parking lot.
So why couldn’t you stop thinking about him?
------
“Hi Marco,” you said as you walked down through the lab, smiling at one of the head engineers. “How’s it going?”
He smiled brightly and grabbed the papers from his desk, nearly tripping over his feet to bring them to you.
“I drew up some new schematics that I think will be great,” he said as he tapped over some pen scribbles. “We’ve still got a few bugs before we’re ready for beta testing, but the alpha tests are going well.”
You handed him back the papers and moved over the window that looked down at the other engineers working. He hurried up behind you and hovered for a minute.
“Do you want to go down there? We could show you in person about those bug fixes and—”
“No, I trust you Marco,” you said with a tight smile, turning back to watch the people you used to work with. “Just wanted to come down and look around. Keep me updated on the alpha tests and let me know when we’re ready to move to the beta stages.”
You took one last look before you moved towards the elevators. Things were on the move and you had faith that soon it’d be ready to show to the world.
And you couldn’t wait.

Hi! I am obsessed with Logan Delos x reader fics but there just aren't ENOUGH fics for Logan and I've read almost all of them....Do you know any good drabbles or fics for him?
Hey Anon to help weed out posting for what you might have already read is there anyway you can hit me with a mini list from your favorite writers for him so I can get a feel of where you've been and what you've liked so far.
I know it can be a little disheartening to ask for recommendations and have half the list be stuff you've already hit
But off the top of my head I loved for fics and drabbles everything of @breanime and @banditthewriter.
And fics:
tiny little increments by @breanime
choose your fate by @banditthewriter
Death of a Bachelor by @delos-mio
Here Comes the Sun-iverse by @something-tofightfor

Moodboards for Bandit the Writer
Bandit, @banditthewriter is a writer I followed for a awhile (don’t know how long). I was scared to start writing to her, but I got the courage and she is a fantastic person. I love reading about her life and she shares a lot about the love of her life, that she calls Chaotic Neutral. Bandit is also an fantastic writer and I always love what she shares with us.
She has written for: Billy Russo, Frank Castle, Matthew Murdock. Logan Delos, King Caspian,Sirius Black, Sam Adams, Nick Tortano, Ryan Brenner, Takeshi Kovacs, Bucky Barnes, Lucifer Morningstar, Tommy Shelby and Geralt of Rivia  (I might have missed a few).

*****
“Ow, ow, okay, that hurts,” you whined as you shifted your weight, bracing your hands against the table.
“You shouldn’t be up and moving around yet,” your sister said as she rolled into the room. “Didn’t Logan tell you he’d be mad if you didn’t listen to the doctors?”
“Logan isn’t the one that’s been stuck in bed for two weeks,” you complained as you looked over at your sister.
You had woken up in the hospital in a panic. Your last memory was passing out after being shot, but you weren’t sure if Logan would be safe in the room with the host version of himself. Apparently shooting the thing had incapacitated some of its capabilities, but not all of them, hence the bullet they dug out of your back.
Logan hadn’t been at your bedside when you woke up, but he was there after you were hugged by each of your family members. He hadn’t cried in front of them, but his eyes were suspiciously red when he leaned in to kiss you.
Your immediate worry, once the doctor promised that you would be up and moving in no time, was Marco. Logan was quick to tell you what had come of that.
“You were right about using Janus to track him. I had some of your engineers work on it since they know the program and it led us right to him.”
“You caught him?”
Logan had grinned so wide that you couldn’t help but copy him. It was over.
Except it wasn’t over just yet. The detectives had brought the video of them storming the makeshift lab. There had been a host version of you, but it wasn’t finished. It seemed that Logan becoming CEO had disrupted Marco’s plans and he had to improvise.
In his lab was evidence of him working with one of your employees as well. Cody Black, one of the engineers who had been supposedly helping you find out what he was doing in the archives. When he had been arrested, he immediately spilled everything. Including that he was supposed to have abducted Logan when he went to a nearby warehouse looking for you.
It didn’t answer why Marco had wanted to do all of this, but that was why you were trying to walk once more. Marco had offered to confess to everything but he would only confess to you. You had expected Logan to have a problem with it, but he had been supportive.
Your family on the other hand…
“I’m still doing this,” you told your sister as you lowered yourself onto the edge of your bed, rolling your ankles a bit as you did. “I have too many unanswered questions.”
Jo gave you a look.
“Is knowing why he made creepy host versions of you and Logan going to make that go away? The pain?”
Not just the physical. Jo was the only one you had told everything to. The pain you had felt when you thought Logan wanted to end things hadn’t been anything compared to the terror you’d felt when you thought that you had shot the real Logan.
“It might not make it go away, but it’ll help me to stop questioning it,” you admitted quietly as you looked down at your hands.
Jo rolled closer to you and grabbed your hand.
“Logan will be there with you, right? Not in the room, but waiting for you?” At your nod, she smiled and gave your hand a comforting squeeze. “He’ll make sure you’re alright. If he’s around, I know that you’re safe.”
It was as close to a gold seal of approval as you get.
------
Logan shut the door behind the two of you, helping you limp over to the couch. He got you settled, making sure your feet were propped up and that you had enough cushion behind your back. Then he snuggled in behind you as best as he could without hurting you.
“You’ve been quiet,” he said as he smoothed a hand down your side. “What did he say?”
You linked your fingers with Logan’s and leaned your head on his shoulder.
“He said that he would have given his all to the company. When I turned him down for stealing from Delos to try to further Janus, he decided that I wasn’t the person that should be running the company. He made the decision to steal from Delos, get Janus to work, and replace me.”
Logan nodded slowly, because that all sounded like what the two of you had theorized already.
“So where did the fake me come into play?”
“He was sick, completely insane. He thought that you were the reason I was hesitant to sacrifice my company’s reputation,” you said with a humorless laugh, “so he wanted you out of the picture. He wanted to use the fake you to lure me out. He was going to plan some sort of accident to explain why Marco-as-me didn’t remember everything that I remember. And it would serve to get rid of you too.”
You felt him tense behind you.
“He was going to kill me.”
You nodded, closing your eyes. You turned your head so that you could bury your face into his neck.
“He said that I was going to be spared. I was going to be kept to feed him information. I would have been his prisoner.”
His arm around your waist tightened.
“I can’t help but think prison is too good for him and his cohorts,” he said in a dark tone. “At least you realized that it wasn’t really me. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t.”
You looked over to the place on the floor where the host’s body had fallen. There wasn’t any sign of what had happened, but you could still see it as if it was happening again.
Once or twice in the weeks since the shooting, you had started to flinch away from Logan. He always found a way to calm you, bringing up something only the two of you would know. Each moment was a reminder that Marco was captured, Logan was real.
“He first asked me to run away with him,” you said quietly, your voice wavering a bit. “I guess that was when he planned the accident. When I said that wasn’t a good idea, he… well, you, I guess. To me it was you. You told me that we didn’t know each other, that you didn’t want to become CEO but you did it for me.”
You could feel him take a breath, most likely to respond to that, but you weren’t done yet. It would be easier to do it in one go.
“When you came back, you said that we shouldn’t be together. That if you were going to be CEO, you couldn’t be with me. That’s when I kind of realized that it wasn’t you,” you admitted as you turned your head a bit to look at him. “You… he… said something that I had heard from Marco a few times. I guess in my head, I told myself that there’s no way you would have wanted to leave me and that it had to be something wrong.”
You weren’t sure what you would have done if it would have turned out that it was actually Logan that wanted to end things. It would have been horrible, but at least it wasn’t real.
And of course you had told Logan about what you had asked the host; it was the same question you had asked Logan when he had gotten to the house, so he expected as much.
“There’s nothing I could want more than this,” he said with a gentle squeeze around your waist, his face turning to tuck into your neck. “I know that sounds insane considering we’ve only been together for a few months, but I mean it. There’s so few real things in my life that when I find one, I have to hold on to it.”
You closed your eyes and found yourself smiling.
“Are you always this honest?”
“Always,” he promised into the soft skin of your neck, his lips brushing there gently.
------
The cabin was rather secluded. It wasn’t the only house on this mountain, but none of the others were closer than a few miles. It felt strange to go out onto the deck and not see water. Instead all you saw were trees and the hills and valleys that surrounded the mountain.
“What are you doing out here?”
You looked over your shoulder and grinned at Logan, urging him forward. He rolled his eyes but joined you on the deck, his arms immediately going around your waist and pressing his chin against your shoulder.
“It’s peaceful out here,” you said as you snuggled him a little closer to you.
“It’s after midnight,” he pointed out, not doing anything to bring you back to the house. “Nightmares again?”
They came and went. Sometimes you dreamed about what your life could have been if Marco had succeeded his poorly thought out plan. Other times your dreams were plagued with Logan’s face. Him breaking your heart, him dying with your bullets in his chest; the dreams never stopped being creative.
“Therapist says it’s normal,” you said as you leaned into his embrace a bit more. “It’s getting easier to deal with.”
It was the reason the two of you had decided to get away to the mountains. Being in that house was eating you alive. Logan was working remotely, with Juliet handling anything that required a physical presence. It helped her keep her mind off of her ex-fiance’s sentencing and it meant she got to help the both of you.
And you? Well, you had told Logan that you were working remotely as well, but there was something else. Something you hadn’t told him about just yet.
It could go on the list of things you hadn’t told him yet.
“Logan?”
“Hm?”
“Before the host shot me, you had said something to me.”
He was quiet for a moment before he turned you around. He leaned you until you were pressed against the railing that went around the deck. He tilted your face up until you could meet his eyes in the light that poured out of the house behind him.
“I love you.”
It was so simply said, as if the earth wasn’t shattering under you. You smiled at him before you spoke.
“I should have said it back to you, before everything happened. I should have said it every day since. I love you Logan,” you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck. “I love you. I think I have for a long time.”
His hand slid up your back until he could cup the back of your head, tugging you in for a kiss. You responded immediately, running your tongue over his lips. His other hand went to your side and down to rest on your hip.
“Want to come back inside now?”
You grinned as you leaned up so that your body rubbed along his.
“The other option is potentially getting splinters from this deck,” you joked as you pushed him back just enough for you to slip around him, your hand going to his to guide him back towards the house. “Let’s see if we can wake the neighbors.”
His hungry grin was a promise to do just that.
------
You were face down on the bed, your head supported by your arm. The sheet was tucked around your waist, but you were completely nude other then that. Logan preferred you that way.
He was naked as well, his top half draped along your back. You felt his fingers trace shapes over your shoulder blades.
His lips pressed against the still healing scar tissue of the wound on your back. Then you felt him lay his cheek against your back next to the scar. His facial hair tickled against your skin.
"What're you doin'?" you drawled from your half asleep state.
"Reminding myself that I could have lost you."
You frowned. Slowly you rolled over so that he was resting on your stomach and peering up at you instead.
"I'm right here."
He nodded, rubbing his stubble against you until you had to push his shoulder to make him stop.
"I know you are. But I also know what you did. You saw the gun and you put yourself in the path. You–you could have died trying to protect me."
You sat up and pulled him with you. Face to face, you linked your fingers with his.
"You would have done it for me," you explained softly. "I know you would have if you'd seen it instead of me."
He nodded and leaned forward until he could rest his forehead against yours.
"I've never felt like this before. Responsible for someone else's life. I promised your dad I would keep you safe and you got shot."
You surged up onto your knees, cupping his face between your hands.
"No one blames you for that. I mean it Logan, it wasn't your fault at all. You being with me almost got you killed too, remember?"
He wrapped his arms around you. Slowly he eased himself down until you were resting on top of him. His hand smoothed down your back, his fingers barely grazing the scar.
"I love you, Logan Delos."
He smiled and tilted your head up until he could press a kiss to your lips.
"Love you too, Y/N Y/L/N."
------
Your legs were draped over Logan’s lap. He had been working on the laptop for most of the morning and you had your tablet in hand. Your workload had changed recently so you were mostly just reading articles on everything that had happened with the trial.
Marco had been convicted, as had William and Cody Black. You hadn’t looked at much more beyond verifying that they wouldn’t be let out anytime in the near future.
“You want to run down to the store tonight or in the morning? We’ll need more food if we’re gonna stay here much longer,” Logan said as he closed his laptop and put it on the floor next to the couch.
“How long are we staying here? Don’t you have to get back to Delos?”
He shrugged his shoulder and leaned back against the couch a bit more.
“There’s a lot that I can do from a computer or with a few phone calls. Juliet is handling things as CEO pro tempore. We can stay here as long as you can stay away from Y/L/N.”
You knew you needed to tell Logan. It wasn’t like you could hide it much longer.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” you said softly as you pulled your legs out of his lap, placing your tablet down on the table behind the couch.
“That doesn’t sound good. What is it?”
“Right before we came on this trip, Jo and I decided something. It’s official at the office but we haven’t made it public yet. I stepped down from the position of CEO.”
His face didn’t change immediately, but then you watched his eyebrows furrow.
“Wait, what?”
You let out a little bit of a laugh and shrugged a shoulder.
“I never wanted the position. I took it because I love the company, but it was never for me. I prefer to be in the lab, honestly. And Jo is finally at a place where she feels like she can get back into the limelight. So she’s taking over the position and I’m joining Buckley back in design.”
Logan stared at you for a moment longer before a wide grin split his face. He surged forward and captured your lips, leaning over until you had to lay back on the couch. His body rested against yours as he continued to kiss you.
“It’s what you’ve wanted since the beginning,” he said against your lips with a grin. “You’ll be doing what you love.”
“Yes I will,” you said pointedly as you spread your legs as best as you could on the couch, letting him settle between them.
He gave you a lewd grin before he propped himself up.
“Why didn’t you tell me to start with?”
You shrugged a shoulder as you tried to keep from wriggling under him. Now that your body was being held down by his, you were getting turned on.
“I didn’t know what you’d think. You just became a CEO and I’m stepping down. I’m a little worried people will think I did it because of us.”
Logan shook his head. His hand came up to cup your cheek, his fingers gentle against your skin.
“If anyone thinks that, we can tell them how wrong they are. You did this for you and you know what? It’s about time. You gotta choose what you want in this life. Gotta choose it and then you gotta take it.”
You ran your hand through his hair, tracing the curve of his ear. Then you leaned up to give him a kiss, soft and sweet.
“I already chose what I want in this life,” you said softly. “I want you.”
His grin softened and he leaned in to kiss you again, his lips fitting against yours so easily.
“You got me.”
And you did. You had taken control of your life, made your own fate as it were. Logan had helped you see that you needed to do what made you happy. All of your future plans had Logan in them and that was only the beginning.
There was so much more to come. You couldn’t wait.

*****
You spent the rest of the afternoon with Logan. While you didn’t feel like getting back to the proposals you had left on the desk, you noticed that Logan didn’t seem to want to deal with work either. He checked his phone a few times, but never for more than a few moments.
“Are you sure you don’t need to be at the office? I don’t want you getting in trouble in your first week as CEO.”
Logan dismissed that idea with a wave of his hand.
“Can’t get in trouble if I’m the CEO,” he said with a bit of a grin. “I’m just going to make a call. I’ll be right back.”
He got up and moved farther into the house so that he could make a call. He did that sometimes, especially if it was work related. You didn’t hold it against him since you did the same thing when you talked about Y/L/N business. The two of you might be together, but your businesses were still very much rivals.
You checked your tablet but there weren’t any recent interactions. As far as you could tell, Marco had signed off of the server.
If he could get into the server, did that mean he still had an access into Y/L/N? That wasn’t something you had planned for. It would need to be addressed soon; you couldn’t leave any vulnerabilities.
Logan came back into the living room with a frown.
“What is it?”
He shook his head as he settled back down on the couch with you.
“There was some traffic on one of our servers at Delos, but we’re not sure. It’s probably just residual from a previous hack.”
It didn’t sound like he believed that.
“Could Marco have another cohort in Delos?”
“I don’t want to count anything out at this point,” he said in a low voice, still frowning. “We’re going to keep an eye on it. If there’s someone else, we’ll figure it out.”
You hoped he was right. The thought of there being more than one traitor in Y/L/N, when the first one was already so hard to find? You weren’t happy to hear that there could be more.
While both of you did your own thing, you noticed Logan checking his phone more often than not. It worried you because even with it being Delos business, he never kept it from you before. He knew that you could keep yourself separate from your CEO duties. But he kept it quiet, simply checking his phone and then going back to whatever he was typing on his laptop.
You had picked up the proposals but you couldn’t focus on them. Instead you tried to decipher what Marco could have meant by his messages. He said he was doing it for the company, and maybe he did believe that, but how would it work in his mind? What part of stealing from Y/L/N and Delos would end up benefiting the company in any way?
“Let’s get away,” Logan said as he approached you, tucking his phone into his jacket pocket. “Let’s just pack a bag and get in the car. We can leave all of this behind for a while.”
You stood up and grabbed his hands.
“We can’t do that. We have our companies, we can’t just abandon them. Besides, we just got back from being back east with my family.”
His eyebrows furrowed for a moment before he nodded. He dropped your hands and pulled away.
“You’re right. Our companies have to come first.”
You stepped up to him again, your hand in his the moment you could touch him. He tensed for a moment before he let you turn him back to you.
“I didn’t say that Logan. I just mean that you were just appointed CEO. If you took off right now, especially with everything going on with William? What kind of image does that create of you?”
He huffed out a laugh, pulling his hand from yours once more. He took a few steps away, his back rigid as he stared out through the windows at the crashing waves beneath the house.
“What if it’s the right one? I’ve tried so hard, but maybe this isn’t what I really wanted.”
You approached him, putting your hands gently on his back.
“Logan, what are you saying?”
He spun around and faced you, his eyes intense as he stared you down.
“I’m saying that maybe I didn’t want to be CEO. That I just made these choices because of you. And for what? For a person I barely know?”
Your hands had been in mid-air, hesitant but wanting to reach out, but they fell to your sides at that.
“You don’t mean that,” you said softly. “You don’t mean it because we’ve talked about this. And I’m not someone you barely know. We’ve been together for months. We’ve barely spent a night apart since all of this happened.”
“And that isn’t a clue? Go from rivals to codependent messes? Can you tell me anything about me that doesn’t revolve around the size of my cock?”
Your hand went to your mouth. Wide eyed, you shook your head and took a step back.
“I’m going to give you a little space to think about what you’re saying, because I don’t think both of us should say things we don’t mean.” You turned and headed towards the stairs, hesitating at the last minute to look back at him. “Come find me when you’re done being an asshole.”
You barely made it to the bedroom before you heard the front door slam.
------
“Hey, have you heard from your brother?”
You listened to Juliet make an inquiring noise in the back of her throat.
“I mean, he called me this morning to tell me that they were going to question William again,” she said thoughtfully. “Not since then though. Why, is something wrong?”
“We had a fight,” you said carefully as you paced around the living room. “He was talking about leaving for a bit and then it somehow became how we don’t know anything about each other and we’re codependent and… well, he left.”
Juliet sucked in a breath at that.
“That sounds like Logan,” she offered sympathetically. “Logan sometimes self sabotages. Just give him time. I’m sure he’ll be back soon and the two of you can talk it out like adults.”
“Yeah,” you said as you flopped down on the couch, “yeah, you’re right. He’ll come back and we can talk. He’s just under a lot of stress right now.”
“Exactly. But he loves you. He’ll come to his senses.”
You felt like you had swallowed your tongue. That was not what you expected to hear from her.
“Uh, Y/N? You made a choking noise and then got really quiet. Are you okay?” At your mumbled response, Juliet made a low noise. “Has he still not told you how he feels? I swear my brother is the most repressed son of a bitch I’ve ever met.”
“No, it’s uh, it’s fine? I mean, I haven’t told him either.”
That made Juliet let out a soft laugh.
“You two really were made for each other. Well I’m going to get off the phone before I let something else slip and really piss him off,” she joked. “But call me if you don’t hear from him? I can check some of his old haunts if you get too worried about him.”
“Thanks Juliet. I appreciate it.”
You put your phone down on the arm of the couch. Now you just needed to wait. Hopefully he would be back soon.
------
The longer he was gone, the more you worried that something had happened to him. You had just started to work yourself into a frenzy when you heard keys at the door. It opened and he stepped in.
“Hey,” he said as he shut the door behind him. “Wasn’t sure you’d still be here.”
You nodded as you tugged your legs up to your chin.
“Wasn’t sure you’d come back.”
He hovered uncertainly before he turned to the bar. You watched his eyes move over the drinks there carefully before he moved that way.
“I did a lot of thinking while I was out driving,” he said as he poured himself a glass of bourbon. “You and me, we make sense, right? Pampered prince and the princess who was thrust into the limelight. Both of us hold a lot on our family names, the reputation.”
You nodded as you straightened your legs, waiting to hear what else he had to say.
“This position is a chance for me to try something new, to be someone that I never thought I could.” His back was tense but he didn’t turn to face you. “The problem is that I can’t be that person if I’m with you. I can’t be Logan Delos the CEO if I’m so caught up in being Logan Delos the boyfriend.”
You felt something turn in your stomach.
“What are you… are you saying you don’t want to be together?”
He finally turned around to face you, shaking his head a little.
“I’m saying for us to be the best that we can, we need to make sacrifices.” He gestured between the two of you with the glass. “You said you’d do anything for your company. Maybe this is the first thing that needs to be done.”
It felt like you had been doused in cold water. You stumbled to your feet, nodding your head as you turned towards the stairs.
“I’ll… pack my bag,” you said quietly as you headed that way.
Your heart was thundering in your chest as you paced the length of the bedroom. The sun was starting to go down, darkness spreading over the water. You bit your lip as you looked around the room until you found what you were looking for. Then you carefully made your way back to the stairs.
He was still near the bar. You noticed that the glass was on the counter, still full. You raised an eyebrow as you made your way down the stairs carefully.
“I can call you a car,” he said as he turned around, freezing as he did. “Y/N?”
You raised the gun that your dad had given you, making sure that it was cocked and ready. You aimed the gun at him and shook your head.
“Where is Logan?”
He looked surprised, holding his hands up a little bit in a peaceful gesture.
“I’m right here,” he began, but you shook your head and took a step forward.
“No, you’re not. You’re not Logan, so where is he? Is he…?” You couldn’t make yourself say the word.
“Y/N, you’re just upset,” he said as he took a few steps forward, halting when you gestured with the gun. “This is an overreaction. You’re upset because of what’s happening, you aren’t thinking clearly. You need to put the gun down.”
You weren’t going to do that. You weren’t about to let your guard down either. But the look on his face was so heartbreakingly familiar that your hand shook a little as you stared at him. How many times had he given you that look when you started to get worked up?
You needed to be sure, had to be certain. You lowered the gun just a little.
“What did my dad say to you? The day that we were leaving, he told you something in the living room right before you left. What was it?”
You held your breath as you waited for his response. He shook his head, his hands falling to his side.
“I don’t know, it’s been a month. A lot has happened since then.”
A lot has happened, but you knew that there was no way Logan would forget that. Your dad had told him to be safe and to take care of you. He also called him son.
Logan had told you on a few occasions over the last few weeks how important that was to him.
You leveled the gun at him and narrowed your eyes.
“Where is Logan? Don’t make me ask again.”
You watched as he cocked his head to the side. There was something so unnerving about the sight, maybe because you knew it wasn’t Logan. Then the worried look fell from his face, replaced by anger.
“This wasn’t the plan,” he said emphatically. “I had a plan for you. You just had to listen to him, do what he said. You were going to be spared.”
Spared? Did that mean…?
He took a step forward and you shook your head.
“Don’t come any closer or I swear I’ll shoot.”
He hesitated, his eyes calculating. He seemed to make the decision because he started forward at a faster pace. And you were ready.
You fired off the first round into his shoulder. He jerked at the impact, but he didn’t stop. You fired a second shot which struck him in the stomach. It slowed him, but he was getting closer.
You pulled the trigger three more times, sending bullets into his chest. Finally he fell to his knees, his hands coming up to his chest before he collapsed. You lowered the gun just a few inches as you stared.
There was something leaking out. From the distance, it looked red and thick. You swallowed thickly, stumbling forward.
“Logan?” Terror gripped you and you ran to his side, gun dropped beside you as you sank to your knees. His eyes were closed. His front was being soaked with redness.
“Logan!” You pressed your hands against his chest, your breathing coming in fitful bursts. “Oh god Logan, no, I thought… I was sure… Logan, please don’t die.”
You needed to call the cops. You needed an ambulance. He had to go to the hospital.
While you panicked over how to call the cops if you didn’t want to leave his side, you almost missed the door opening. You didn’t miss the panicked look on the face of the man that came in.
“Y/N? What… the fuck?” Logan looked at you hovered over the body, his eyes wide. “I heard gunshots.”
You looked between him and the body on the floor. You lifted the gun and aimed it at the newcomer, not daring to take a chance. He halted his movements, your name falling from his lips, but you weren’t stopping yet.
“What did my dad say to you? The day that we left the house, what did he say?”
You were screaming the words, your hands shaking so bad you weren’t sure you’d be able to hit him even if you did fire off a shot.
“What? He called me son, told me to take care of you. What the fuck is going on–Y/N!”
You dropped the gun once more and nearly threw yourself over the body so that you could wrap your arms around his shoulders.
“It’s you, it’s really you, Logan,” you cried into his shoulder, shaking so bad that you could barely stand. “I thought it was you. First I thought it wasn’t but then it was bleeding.”
You looked at your hands, the redness that covered your fingers. It was too red, too thick. Not blood, whatever it was. Some sort of colored oil maybe. And sure enough you could smell the difference now that you were more aware of your surroundings.
Logan gripped your hips, his hands moving over your body as he checked you for injuries, spinning the two of you around a bit. Then he clasped your face between his hands and made you look at him.
“I got a message from who I figured was Marco, saying he had you and I was to come alone. I went to the location he sent me, but there wasn’t anyone there. I kept trying your phone, but the call never went through.”
He rested his forehead against yours and you pressed your hand against his chest, feeling his heart race against your palm.
“I thought you were dead,” he said with a shake of his head, pulling back a few inches to meet your eyes. “I heard the shots and I thought you were dead. Fuck, that was the most excruciating moment of my life. I don’t want to ever go through that again.”
You nodded as you tugged him in close once more. You knew exactly what he meant by that and you felt the same.
“God I love you Y/N. I love you so much.”
That made your breath catch. You leaned back to look at him, your eyes wide as the words registered. He didn’t look like he had said it by mistake and it didn’t look like he regretted them. In fact all you could see was honesty and love in his eyes.
This was it. This was the moment your relationship was going to change. And you’d been waiting for it for so long.
Movement out of the corner of your eye made you look away. The host had sat up, the gun in hand and aimed at the two of you. Without thinking twice, you spun on your heel, dragging Logan with you. The sound of the gunshot echoed in the house, the pain ripping through your back as you collapsed against Logan.
There was a clicking noise as the host pulled the trigger again. You watched as the host laid down, a slight twitch to his movements. It hurt to breathe, but you got the word out.
“Janus,” you said as you looked up at Logan, those wide terrified eyes peering down into yours. “He’s using Janus.”
Logan shook his head, shifting the way he was holding you in his lap so that he could pull out his phone.
“I’m calling an ambulance. Hold on Y/N, okay? You’re going to be fine.”
You coughed, feeling blood splatter against your face. It was speckled against his shirt with the red from whatever that had been in the host’s body.
“Janus. You can… track him with Janus. Call… Y/L/N.”
“Stop talking,” he said through gritted teeth as he dialed 911. He listed off the situation and told them to hurry, letting the phone drop onto the floor. “I need to roll you over so that I can put pressure on your back. Can you… can you handle that?”
You weren’t sure that it mattered. He slowly rolled you into his lap so that he could put pressure on your back, earning a loud cry from you as the pain radiated outward.
“Logan… I need to… tell you. I lov–”
“No,” he said forcefully, gently cupping your cheek with his free hand, “no you don’t get to say it like this, like you’re saying goodbye. We’ll try again once you’re better.”
You wanted to laugh. Your hand reached up and you thread your fingers through his, squeezing when a wave of pain went over you.
“Was that… you earlier? Here, this afternoon?”
Logan shook his head.
“I’ve been at the office until I got that message. I haven’t been home since this morning.”
So it wasn’t the real Logan, your Logan, who wanted to end things, who said those things. You closed your eyes, feeling a little lighter with that knowledge. It mattered so much that he wasn’t the one.
“Hold on a little longer,” Logan begged as he leaned down to press his forehead against yours. “I can’t do this without you Y/N. You gotta hold on for me.”
You squeezed his hand as hard as you could manage, past the ability to make words at that point. You were going to fight, going to do whatever you could to stay with him. You weren’t ready to give this up.
You needed Logan. You loved him. You weren’t done loving him yet.

"How are you guys holding up?"
You smiled at the genuine concern in your dad's voice. It had probably reached him that not only was James Delos out, but Logan was the CEO now. And on top of that, it wasn't a secret that the Delos siblings had cut ties with their father.
"We're fine dad," you said as you tucked the phone between your ear and your shoulder. "Logan and I talked about it and we decided not to let it affect our relationship."
You weren't sure how it would work in the long run, but you were willing to find out. Y/L/N was focusing more on the government contracts while you waited for things with Marco to be finished.
"You tell that man you love him yet?"
"Dad!"
"Your mom is the one that wants to know. But I'm curious too," he added with a grin in his voice. "You two seemed to be made for each other so I just want to know that everything is going smoothly. I just want you to be happy."
You smiled as you worked on preparing dinner. Logan would be home from his first full day as CEO and you wanted to spoil him.
"I am happy. We both are. And part of the reason is because we aren't rushing anything."
Your dad let out a short chuckle at that.
"Oh really? So you don't basically live with him right now, do you?"
You looked around the place that you considered home more than your condo and winced.
"It's just because of Marco," you began but your dad cut you off.
"And if Marco wasn't in the picture, it'd be a different reason. I'm not judging you baby. Hell, I bought an engagement ring for your mom after knowing her for six months. These things happen."
Yeah, but you never thought it would happen to you.
Later, once you hung up and went back to cooking, you tried to picture the future. Once Marco was captured and everything was right once more, what would happen then? You'd go back to your condo and only see Logan every few days?
With both of you CEOs, it might be less than that.
The thought didn't sit well with you. You didn't want to lose this ease that the two of you had discovered but you also didn't want to rush anything. So what did it mean?
Hands fell to your waist and you jumped, your head smacking against someone's face.
"Shit!"
You whirled around in horror as you watched Logan clutch his nose.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't hear you come in and you startled me. Here, let me see," you said as you tried to move his hands to look at his nose.
"Nothings broken," you said as you checked his nose, "just maybe a bruise. I'm really sorry."
"Not your fault. That's what I get for trying to sneak up on you," he said with a grin as he rubbed his nose once more before he wrapped his arms around your waist. "I guess I don't have to worry about anyone catching you unaware."
You leaned up onto your toes to kiss the bridge of his nose.
"I'm making chicken and rice and veggies," you said as you turned back to the stove. "I wanted you to have a good meal after your first day."
His hands went back to your hips and he propped his chin up on your shoulder.
"You really don't have to do that for me."
"I'm wanted to. I know what it's like to get control of an entire company with not much warning although I think you wanted it more than I ever did.”
Logan wrapped his arms around your middle, giving you a gentle squeeze.
“You’ve done amazing things with that company,” he said as he leaned back to turn you around to face him again. “I know that Y/L/N doesn’t operate on the same level that Delos does, but you’ve surpassed us in so many ways. You’ve done great things and I know you’ll continue that.”
You swallowed thickly as you looked down at where your hands were pressed against his chest. There was so much welling in your chest that you weren’t sure how to get through the meal without bursting. Your dad’s comment about telling Logan that you loved him was playing around in your head like a broken record.
You did love Logan and you knew he cared about you, but if you said the words, it would put the relationship in a new light. That was a path you just weren’t sure that Logan was ready to take with you. It was so soon and the two of you were in a very new position.
“You’re going to do amazing things with Delos,” you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck, smiling at the way his eyes crinkled at your words. “I’m proud of you Logan.”
He leaned in to kiss you, but it lacked the usual heat. It was a simple press of his lips against yours, gliding across easily. You held on as you smiled into the gentle, sweet kiss.
“That means more to me than anything else I’ve been told today,” he said as he pressed his forehead against yours. “I don’t think I could have gotten here if it wasn’t for you.”
You laughed and pushed his chest, turning away so that he couldn’t see how flustered and embarrassed you were by his words.
“I know that’s not true,” you said as you turned to the stove, grabbing a spoon and then remembering you didn’t have anything to stir.
Logan didn’t press you. It was one of the things you loved about him; he knew when to push and when he needed to step back. This being one of those times, he kissed your neck before he walked out of the kitchen, unbuttoning his shirt.
“I’m going to change into something that doesn’t smell like the office and then I’ll set the table.”
You were struck by the domesticity of it all. And in the back of your mind, you tried once again to picture the future. You tried to imagine being alone in your condo at night, Logan up here in this beautiful house on his own. Part of you, a tiny little part that you rarely let see the light of day, wondered if he’d be here alone.
But he wouldn’t cheat. You trusted Logan; you had meant it when you said that monogamy was a requirement and you believed he was okay with that.
You would just have to accept what the two of you had for now. Who could tell what the future would bring?
------
The consultants had given you a list of about fifty of the employees most likely to be involved with Marco. All of their clearance levels matched what would have been needed as well as having opportunity. It was all that they could give without letting the perpetrator know that you were on to them.
You knew that Logan was going through this at Delos as well. He had rehired all of the people that his father had fired, but he didn’t discount that any of them could be a culprit as well.
You were about to start rifling through personnel files for a clue when your cell phone started to buzz on the table. You were surprised to see Juliet’s name on the screen.
“Hello?”
You heard a smiffle and immediately went on high alert.
“Juliet? What’s wrong?”
The sniffle was there again before there was a bit of a rustle on the other line, a familiar voice telling her to give the phone over. Then Logan’s voice was there in your ear.
“Y/N? Hey, sorry about that,” he said quietly, “Juliet isn’t quite herself right now.”
“What’s going on?”
“We found the person that had been working with Marco. Well, the one from our end at least,” he added thoughtfully. “They thought they had cut off all of the video cameras but one of them is programmed to save the file and it was enough to give us an identity.”
You waited for a second but when he didn’t tell you more, you prodded him.
“Well? Who was it?”
Here he let out what sounded like a growl.
“It was William. Yes,” he said when you started to stutter, “my sister’s fiance. Apparently he decided that this was his best bet to get traction with the board so that he could take over without a hitch. Things went tits up when I took over.”
Oh poor Juliet.
“Is she okay?”
“She’s not sure if she wants to cry or laugh,” he said quietly, as if not wanting her to hear. “At least we found out before the wedding.”
You heard a noise in the background that was probably Juliet laughing. You sighed and flopped back in your chair a bit.
“Do we think that William was working with the traitor here at Y/L/N? Because that might help me narrow it down,” you added with a frown as you stared at the list on your desk.
“I don’t know. He’s not talking,” Logan said in disgust. “I don’t give it long before he breaks though. He’ll probably flip on Marco if only to save his own skin.”
One could only hope.
------
There was a message on your tablet. It was the one that had a secure connection to the server’s at Y/L/N but you rarely got messages on it when you weren’t in the office. Or when there weren’t projects being worked on. Since all projects had been halted indefinitely, you couldn’t imagine what it could be about.
You clicked to open it and nearly dropped the device.
Don’t get the cops.
It was Marco. It wasn’t signed and the connection said the user was Unknown, but you knew it was Marco. And you knew that you should get the cops, knew you should tell someone, but you found yourself typing out a response.
You need to turn yourself in. This has gone too far.
You looked over to your cell phone. This was your first lead to Marco and if you contacted the cops, you’d lose him. But if you kept him on the server long enough, you might get a link to his location.
This hasn’t gone far enough. You have no idea why I’m doing this.
So tell me. What has made you turn against a company who treated you like family? How could you do this to us? To me?
It wasn’t right to play on feelings he may or may not have for you, but you were desperate. While you waited for his response, you moved over to grab your cell phone. The messages would delete so you needed to take pictures of the screen.
You said you would do anything for the company, but you lied. I would die for that company. I’m doing this for the company
You frowned as you took a picture of the screen. Then you responded to that.
How are you doing this for the company? You stole from us. You stole from Delos. None of that is going to benefit the company
You waited for a response but it seemed like it wouldn’t come through. You snapped one last picture and locked the tablet. Then, after some debating, you grabbed your phone and called Logan.
“Hey babe,” he greeted with a sigh, “you’re a welcome break from the bullshit that is cleaning up after my almost-brother-in-law. How is your day going?”
“You know how I said I was going to stay at the house to work on the proposal by myself?”
“Yeah,” he encouraged, obviously intrigued by how you had started the conversation.
“My tablet, the one that’s linked to the Y/L/N servers? I got a message on it. I think it’s from Marco.”
There was a beat of silence where you weren’t sure if he had heard you or not, but then he was in your ear once more.
“What do you mean, you think it’s from Marco? You didn’t respond to him, did you?” At your prolonged silence, you heard him sigh. “Jesus Y/N. This guy stole from both of our companies. He had a damn collage with your pictures. You need to call the police right now.”
You frowned as you looked at your tablet.
“If I keep the connection, we might be able to find him. If I tell the cops, we may lose him again. I just want this done,” you admitted softly, your voice breaking a bit.
You had been on edge for weeks because of this. It would be nice to not have to worry every minute of every day.
Logan sighed. You knew he didn’t want to agree with you, but you also knew he couldn’t deny that this was your best shot.
“Give it until the morning. If we don’t have more information by then, we’re calling the detectives. I mean it Y/N, you aren’t playing private investigator with this sicko.”
“I’m not,” you promised quickly, “I just don’t want to miss the chance.”
“If something happens to you,” he began quietly, but you wouldn’t let him continue with that.
“Nothing will happen to me.”
Logan let out a bit of a laugh, followed by another sigh.
“I’ll be home late tonight, so just make sure all of the doors are locked. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way.”
You smiled as you nestled down into the chair a bit.
“I’ll be waiting.”
When you hung up, you looked at your tablet and saw another message had come through while you were on the phone. You unlocked it and checked the message.
You can’t see it now, but you will. I promise.
You didn’t like the sound of that.
------
You were coming out of the bathroom when you heard footsteps in the house. When you peered around the wall, you saw Logan walking across the large living room.
“I thought you said you’d be late,” you said as you crossed over to him.
“Decided the office could handle it without me,” he said as he turned around to you. He looked you over, almost looking surprised. “I thought you were working?”
You sighed and looked over at the stacks of paper on the desk that you had been sorting through.
“I needed a break. After the thing with Marco this morning, it’s been hard to focus.”
Logan nodded slowly, his eyes darting back to your paperwork. He looked back at you and raised an eyebrow.
“What did you learn from Marco?”
“Nothing,” you admitted as you grabbed your phone, flicking through to find the pictures. You handed your phone to Logan before you flopped down on the couch. “He was just cryptic. I didn’t learn anything that would help us.”
He nodded as he followed you to the couch. He sat down a little softer than you had, putting your phone down on his other side. He raised one arm and reached over to brush his hand against your cheek.
“You’re warm,” you said as you closed your eyes to the touch. “I think I left the air on too long this morning. I was an ice cube all morning.”
He opened his arms and you moved to rest against him.
“How are you handling cleaning up after William? Has he said anything about why he was working with Marco?”
Logan sighed, his fingers brushing through your hair gently.
“He hasn’t said much. We assume that Marco promised him something for his silence, but we can’t be sure what it is at this point.”
You frowned as you sat up, turning to look at Logan.
“He’s completely lost it Logan. He thinks that what he did was for the benefit of the company. I can only imagine what he could have promised someone like William to turn against your family.”
Logan hesitated before he nodded. He tugged you back against his chest gently, his hand going back to your hair as if to soothe you.
“We’ll figure it out. We have to.”
That was something you definitely agreed with. You had a feeling that this whole thing was about to come to an end and you could only hold on to Logan and hope that it ended quietly. You weren’t sure you could take any more surprises.

Logan's house was almost exactly what you thought it would be. Walls that were made up entirely of glass, couches that looked to have been made for sex, a liquor cabinet that would make most bars want to close their doors; there was chrome and brass and marble as far as the eye could see.
But there were touches of Logan everywhere too. Paintings and drawings, some you knew were ridiculously expensive. There was a framed collection of concert tickets, just like he had said. And a kitchen that definitely saw more cooking than the usual bachelor fuckpad.
The ride to his place had helped both of you cool down a bit, especially since he kept the convertible top down. But now that you were here? The heat was turning up again.
"Want a tour?"
It reminded you of the first night you had met Logan. That had been his line, a tour of the city. And he made it very clear that the tour would only involve a stop to his bedroom.
The grin on his lips told you that he was thinking about it too.
"I can think of one sight I'd like to see," you teased as you stepped up to stand in front of him.
"Oh really?" His hand went to your mouth to pull on your bottom lip. "Because I can think of several."
You leaned forward to kiss him, moaning when he immediately made the kiss dirty and desperate. You wondered if you were about to get to see how comfortable the couch was before he pulled back. His pupils were blown wide as he looked you over, his eyes lingering on your mouth for a second before he grabbed your hand and tugged you up the stairs towards his bedroom.
His room was mostly made up of windows. It looked lived in, comfortable, but the bed was made with hospital corners. All of that registered in the seconds before you were pushed onto the bed, his body pressing yours down deliciously.
“Too many clothes,” you mumbled against his lips as you dragged him closer, not really helping the situation.
He was hard in his jeans, the bulge of his cock pressed between your legs where you really needed it. He rolled his hips purposefully, grinning down at you when you gasped at the friction. Then he sat up and pulled his shirt over his head, tossing it to the side.
Did he have to look that good? It was ridiculous. You leaned up and licked a path up his chest. On an instinct, you bit down on his chest and was rewarded with a throaty moan from him.
“Enough of that,” he said as he pushed you back. He stepped off the bed to start working on his jeans as he looked you over. “Take your clothes off. Now.”
You complied with a laugh, kicking off your shoes and then struggling with your pants. The wine you’d had at your place was mostly out of your system by now, so the floating sensation in your limbs was wholly because of the man that was staring down at you. He grabbed the jeans and gave them a tug, helping you pull them down your hips along with your underwear. Next came your shirt and bra, throwing that at his face when he leered at you.
“Get over here,” you said as you grabbed his arm and yanked him back to the bed.
The two of you stayed like that for a while, kissing and touching. Both of you were turned on beyond relief, skin hot to the touch, but neither of you were in a rush. It felt like there was a bubble around the house, or maybe just around the bed. When his hand skimmed down your side, it wasn’t just sexual. The sensual movement of his hips was just an urge for closeness.
Your head was swimming with it all.
“Condoms?” Logan blinked at you for a moment until you repeated the word. “Condoms? Do you have them or are we going to have to get creative?”
He grinned as he rolled over towards the table next to his bed. There was a book there as well as a bottle of what looked like bourbon. There was also wooden box that he took the lid off to reveal a mountain of condoms.
“Classy,” you said as you leaned over him to grab one, laughing when he bit down on your nipple as your breasts were in front of his face.
It shouldn’t have surprised you that sex with Logan involved a lot of laughter; the two of you had fit together so easily. But beyond the two of you enjoying yourselves, it was also hot and intense. When his fingers went between your legs, you were already gasping into his neck by the first brush against your clit.
“Can I get you off with just my fingers?” He pushed one inside of you, grinning when he felt you clench around him. “Oh I bet I could. I bet I could turn you into a puddle with just my hands.”
“I’ve got a better idea,” you said as you crawled up his body, grinning as you settled yourself over his face. “Put that mouth to work Delos.”
His happy grin was the last thing you saw as you lowered yourself onto him, his mouth going to work on you immediately. He still used his fingers to fuck you, his mouth focused on your clit. You rolled your hips, reaching out to brace yourself on the wall behind the bed. He was moaning against your pussy and it was turning you on more, the vibrations rocking through you. You spread your legs wider, grinding down until you could feel his teeth scrape against your clit as well.
The orgasm shot through you like lightning. You slapped your hand against the wall was you rode out the aftershocks before you got off of his face
“Fuck,” he swore, his hand moving over his cock roughly, “I need to fuck you Y/N. Get over here.”
You handed him the condom since he probably had more experience putting it on than you did. While he did that, you rubbed your clit as you watched his movements. Once the condom was on, he grabbed your leg and yanked until you moved to straddle his hips. He guided his cock to your entrance, pushing up an inch or two.
The stretch was glorious, but it was also not enough. You sank down over the length of him, letting out a hiss at the way he filled you up. His hands moved over your body, gripping your thigh and side before he reached up to pinch your nipples. Your hands braced on his chest, you lifted yourself up and then lowered down as hard as you could. Setting the pace that way, you fucked yourself on his cock as you dug your nails into his chest.
“Fuck you feel good,” he swore as he moved into your thrusts, rolling his hips upwards and into you. “Feel you squeezing my cock. So good baby.”
You reached between the two of you to play with your clit while you fucked yourself on him, rolling your hips as your second orgasm started to race up your spine. He must have noticed that you were close before he started to fuck up into you earnestly.
“Fuck, Logan,” you cried as you came again, back arching as your toes curled.
He rolled the two of you over until you were on your side and he was behind you. It changed the angle, his cock dragging across your g-spot on every other thrust. It gave him more leverage and he fucked you harder, slamming his cock into you. His hands never stopped touching you, roaming your body as he fucked you. You reached behind you to drag him into a kiss, your tongue twirling with his as his hips started to lose rhythm.
“Almost there,” he muttered into your mouth, his voice a little hoarse as he moved.
When he finally came, you were right behind him with your third orgasm of the evening. This one caused your body to quake and your vision to go dark for a moment. His fingers moved between your legs and you had to shy away, sensitive and over stimulated at the moment.
He grinned as he removed the condom, taking care of the trash. When he came back to the bed, he fell beside you and rubbed his cheek against yours.
“I’ve still got plans for you,” he whispered against your ear. “Once you’re no longer shaking at least.”
You met his eyes and gave him a grin before you pushed him onto his back.
“I’m not done with you either,” you promised as you lowered your mouth onto his cock to work him back up to fully hard.
It was going to be a long night.
------
After round four or five or—what time was it?—you were sprawled out over Logan's chest. The sun was just starting to lighten up the sky through the massive windows that made up the bedroom.
You had a feeling Logan had a bit of an exhibitionist streak.
It hadn't come up before, but you knew you needed to voice your concerns about this. With that in mind, you lifted your head until you could meet his eyes.
"I can't do this if I'm just going to be one of the many," you said quietly, unsure how this was going to go down. "You have a reputation and I don't judge you for that, but if you and I are gonna continue, I refuse to be just another body in your bed."
It had been a long time since you'd had to have the "are we exclusive?" talk with someone and you knew for a fact that you didn't care about that person the way that you cared for Logan. What you felt for Logan defied reason; it hadn't been that long since you met him, so why were you already so far gone on him?
Logan's hand drifted over your back and up until he could brush his fingers against your cheek. There was a small grin on his lips that made your heart speed up.
"If you're waiting for me to protest, you're gonna be waiting a while. I don't like the idea of sharing you any more than you like the idea of sharing me. And," he added as he tugged you up into a kiss, "after finally having you? You might have ruined me for sex with other people completely."
He was probably just joking but that didn't stop the swell of your heart at the words. Not yet, but maybe one day… one day the two of you could explore that possibility.
------
It had been a week of you staying with Logan. You went in to the city to the office for nine or ten hours, but Logan was always ready to pick you up and bring you back with him. You weren’t sure what he did in that time, but you doubted he spent much time at Delos.
While the two of you had had sex in basically every room of his house, and on every surface possible, the two of you spent even more time just talking. Sometimes after sex you’d just lie there and tell stories of your pasts. Every day that passed was one more that you were closer to Logan.
Your sister checked in on you daily, but she didn’t ask any pointed questions. She wanted to know if Marco had been caught and how you were, but she never addressed the Logan situation directly. You knew you’d have to answer for it soon.
And you’d have to tell your parents. Your mom would be happy as long as you were. Your dad… was a lot harder to predict about this.
Logan didn’t seem to have any of your hesitations. He had called Juliet your fifth day there and invited her to dinner with the two of you. She had been pleasantly surprised. The three of you had had a lovely meal together and then when she left, Logan had taken you to bed.
The sex had been slow and intimate in a way you hadn’t expected from Logan. It left something heavy and unnamed in your chest that you felt every time you inhaled.
It was late in the evening on your seventh day. Your legs were draped over Logan’s lap as you looked over expenditure reports from the company. Logan was reading a book; or at least he was pretending to read a book. You were pretty sure by the sly looks and the way his hand was drifting up and down your leg, he was just biding his time until he could drag you back to the bedroom.
Honestly you were going to need to start drinking energy drinks just to keep up with him.
There was a knock on the door and Logan sighed as he looked at his watch.
“This late? It’s probably someone that took a wrong turn,” he said as he got out from under your legs. “It’s clearly marked as private property.”
You opened your mouth to say something, but you didn’t get the chance. Logan was about five feet from the door when it flew open. Standing there with a frown on his face was one James Delos. He slammed the door shut behind him and charged forward, pointing his finger in Logan’s face.
“You’ve been ignoring me,” he nearly screamed, his knuckles white as he poked Logan’s chest. “Our company is under attack and you’re up here hiding under a rock.”
“I’m not hiding,” Logan said as he stepped away from his father, his eyes cutting towards you as if to tell you to stay put, “I haven’t gotten a call that something was wrong. And what right do you have to barge into my house–”
“That Delos money pays for? My last name that I let you borrow,” James yelled, his voice actually shaking the windows.
Logan’s jaw ticked. You’d never seen him like this and you were suddenly hit with a fear; if he was anything like his father, you were about to witness a screaming match. Hopefully it wouldn’t get physical.
You were looking around for something to use to separate them if it came to that.
“I use my inheritance from mom for this place, actually,” Logan said in a low voice that made you sit up a little straighter. “You remember her, right? She’s the one that you got pregnant twice while you fucked other women? Third marriage? Or was she your fourth? I can never remember.”
James’s face was turning red and you thought that this was it, this was when it would turn violent. Instead he stepped back, his color slowly receding. The man’s Scottish accent had gotten nearly unintelligible when he had been screaming at his son, but it was smoother when he spoke next.
“I’m not here to talk about your mother,” he said almost calmly. “I’m here to talk about Delos. There was a breach in one of the parks.”
“A breach? What kind of breach?”
James gestured his hand for a moment, his attention straying from Logan to you. You weren’t sure if he just now noticed you or if he had pegged you when he first came in, but you knew you had his full attention now.
“A guest took one of the hosts to the middle of the desert and dissected them,” he said as he looked back at Logan, but you weren’t under the impression that you were dismissed just yet.
“That’s what they do,” Logan began, but James interrupted him.
"He had a device that he snuck into the park. He plugged it into the host and stole information from it.”
Your heart was pounding in your chest. And you could see that Logan’s back had become a little more rigid.
“And so why are you coming here? I’m just a board member, remember?”
James’s jaw twitched, the only thing you’d seen that the two of them shared besides expensive tastes. You watched as he took a few steps towards his son, menacing more than anything else.
“This guest was in the park as a guest of the Delos family,” James said as his eyes darted over to you for a moment. “The code on the ticket said it came from you.”
They could track that? It shouldn’t surprise you, but it did. But you were also pretty sure you knew where this was headed.
“Dad–”
“Tell me you didn’t give your Y/L/N slut a ticket to Westworld to try to steal from me.”
It was said in such a threatening manner that you were almost afraid to stand, but you were your father’s daughter. You stood up and crossed over to the two Delos men, ignoring Logan’s pointed look that you should stay back.
“Perhaps you should ask the Y/L/N slut directly,” you spat as you got as close to them as you dared, still wary of the potential for violence. “What’s the matter James, are you worried that fucking me might have made him turn against you? Because from where I’m standing, you do a pretty good job of that yourself.”
“Now listen here,” he began, but you weren’t done.
Not by a long shot.
“I have been here and at the office for the last week. Our security cameras will prove that and you can ask Juliet or Logan’s housekeeping staff about the time we spend here.” You took a step forward and lowered your voice, keeping your chin raised so that you didn’t lose his gaze. “I don’t want or need anything from Delos. My only interest in that name is that it happens to be Logan’s, more the pity. I know what you did to my father now; you think I’m stupid enough to get involved with someone in your family when it comes to business?”
His eyes grew wide, but he hadn’t backed down. Instead he turned to look at Logan.
“It was her employee,” he started, but it was Logan’s turn to interrupt him.
“Actually, I think you’ll find that he isn’t employed with her company anymore. He stole from her company and he stalked her. That’s why she’s here,” he said as he moved to stand beside you, “and because I want her here.”
James looked between the two of you, his eyes dark with anger. Then he took a step backwards.
“Careful son; you’re getting disturbingly close to having a backbone,” James said as he turned away, stalking back to the door. “I expect you at Delos in the morning. Things need to be discussed.”
The sound of the door slamming closed once more would have drowned out any response from Logan, but he hadn’t done more than glared. Once the silence had settled over the two of you, he glanced at you from the corner of his eye.
“I thought you were going to deck him,” he said with a bit of a grin as he turned and walked—stumbled—towards the couch.
“I thought the two of you were about to come to blows,” you admitted as you followed him, careful not to get too close. “Is he always like that? Aggressive?”
Logan looked curious for a moment before he blinked. He seemed to notice the distance between the two of you because he reached over and pulled you towards his lap.
“He’s too smart to ever get physical with me. Together, Juliet and I hold a majority of shares of the company; we could call for the board to replace him and we would get our way. He likes to pretend we don’t know that, but we do. It’s all that keeps him on his best behavior I think.”
You shook your head, tucking your legs under you. Your hands were in Logan’s and you felt your chest loosen up a bit. He looked deep in thought so you stayed quiet and waited for him to speak.
“It was Marco,” he said with certainty. “You said he got into your phone so he must have seen the ticket in your email. It wasn’t in your name, so he must have used that to get into the park.”
“Unless you buy tickets for all of your girlfrie—people you want to sleep with.”
Logan grinned at your slip. He tucked his fingers under your chin and raised your face until you could meet his eyes.
“You just stared down my father and didn’t flinch; as juvenile as the term is, that’s definitely girlfriend material.”
You ducked your head against his shoulder to hide your grin. Then you sat up to meet his eyes again.
“Marco had talked about stealing information from Delos, but it was supposed to be for Y/L/N and the project. If he doesn’t work for me anymore, what’s the point of stealing the information?”
Logan shook his head as he wrapped his arm around your shoulders.
“He stole from you and he stole from Delos; he’s gonna be the most wanted man in the country by morning if he isn’t already. They’ll catch him and then we can ask him.”
You wished you had the optimism that Logan had about it. For some reason you felt that this was just the beginning of something else.
Something worse.

******
It had been about a week since your date with Logan. In that time, you and Logan had only been able to meet up once more, but you talked nearly constantly. It wasn’t just sexual innuendo, which was surprising, but the two of you were learning a lot about each other.
You learned that Logan could cook but preferred not having to. You learned that he could play the piano, that he would have studied music or something artsy in another life, and that he collected concert tickets. It was a bunch of tiny things that didn’t mean much alone, but together? It showed you that there was more to him than you had thought.
Of course your father reached out to you about the date, just like you had assumed he would.
“Do you know what you’re doing with that one, Y/N? From what I know about him, he’s not exactly the kind of guy I’d want with my daughter.”
You knew what he was referring to because you had looked into it as well. You had seen all of the articles and posts about Logan Delos and his lothario ways. But you knew there had to be more to him; you’d seen glimpses of it firsthand.
“I know what I’m doing,” you promised with a confidence you didn’t have to fake. “I’m not a kid anymore dad. I’ve got to be able to make my own decisions.”
He had sighed but ultimately he trusted you. His only warning outside of that was for you to just be careful.
His dealings with James Delos were his own; you weren’t interested in that. You were just interested in Logan.
The week passed by much like every other week before, except with the added bonus of having Logan to talk to. Text conversations turned to phone calls once you were out of the office. And that one meeting the two of you had was for ice cream which was just… adorable.
“You’re trying too hard,” you had told him when he handed you your cone.
He raised an eyebrow and leaned in to take a lick from your ice cream, grinning when he noticed you watch his mouth a little too intently.
“I consider it putting in effort,” he said with a grin as he put his hand on the small of your back to lead you to a bench. “You’re worth the effort. I want you to see this isn’t just some joke to me.”
The ice cream date had been quite possibly the best thing you’d ever experienced. You could let loose with Logan, could laugh and just be yourself. Everything with him was so effortless.
And yet at the end of the date as he walked you to your car, he didn’t try to kiss you. You weren’t sure why you were disappointed in that but you were. Maybe he wanted you to make the first move, and maybe you would, but you kind of wished that he had just laid one on you right then.
As the night for the event came closer, you weren’t sure what to expect. It was at the Delos mansion. Logan didn’t live there, but he had at some point. And you knew he would be there.
Would the two of you act like you didn’t know each other? Or act like you were merely work associates and rivals? You weren’t sure what the rules would be and you hadn’t thought to ask Logan. Although you had a feeling if you did ask him, he’d leave it up to you.
The dress you had picked was beautiful. The full length mirror in your bedroom showed just how the fabric hugged you in all the right spots, flowing down your legs. The slit wasn’t scandalously high, but it still showed a good amount of leg when you walked. And the color?
It was a deep, deep red color that almost looked black under some lights. There was a sheer lace material at the top that hugged around your shoulders and then connected in the back to flow down the rest of the dress. It was beautiful.
When you got down to the main floor to put on the shoes you had bought for this dress, you couldn’t help but glance up at the Orpheus unit on your counter. You hadn’t gotten a recent update from Marco; it wasn’t entirely uncommon, especially with how busy you’d been with lawyers and the investors that your sister had sent your way. You’d just have to make a point to visit his office Monday when you went back to work.
Black heels on and a clutch in hand, you checked your appearance one last time before you left. The ride to the Delos mansion was quiet in the hired car, but your dad had told you that if you were set on going to the event with the enemy, you were going to do it in the style you deserved.
At the mansion, you were a little in awe of what you were looking at. Of course you’d seen pictures and knew it would be large, but it was almost comical how big the place was.
And Logan had grown up here? He’d probably laugh if he knew about the four bedroom house you called home through your childhood.
The person at the door took your invite and ushered you in. There was a large open area where people were milling around, all dressed in such fancy clothes that you were glad you had sprung for the dress you picked. In the distance you could see James Delos holding court with some older gentlemen.
You didn’t see Logan, but you did see William. He was covering a yawn as he nodded along to a story from an older gentleman who didn’t seem to notice he was boring the man. And to his side was an equally bored looking Juliet Delos.
You met her eyes and gave her a small wave. She mumbled something to her fiance and quickly made her way to you. Her dark blue dress was beautiful and hugged her body perfectly. She glided over to you and took your hand with a smile.
“I’m so glad you could make it,” she gushed as she pulled you further into the house. “I was a little worried that my brother might have scared you off.”
Did she not know that you and Logan were… whatever you were? Dating? If he hadn’t mentioned it, you weren’t sure you should. Instead you smiled at her and accepted a glass of wine when a waiter had walked by the two of you.
“How could I resist an invite only soiree at the Delos mansion? This is a once in a lifetime kind of experience,” you joked as you turned to look around the room. “I’m sure the net worth in this room could solve the homeless problem in this country three times over.”
She sighed as she looked around with you.
“At least,” she said with a dejected shake of her head. “It’s a little disgusting actually.”
A little while later, a shadow passed over the two of you as you talked about some of the charities that she was on the board of. You got excited thinking it was Logan, but one look said it was a different Delos.
“Ah, Juliet,” he said as he greeted his daughter, his eyes looking over you with disinterest. “Is your brother around?”
“How would I know?”
He gave her a stern look and then looked at you.
“Since you’re keeping company with the hooker he took home that night when he was supposed to be working, I assume you’d have some clue. What about you? Do you know where your meal ticket is?”
Heat spread over you. Juliet was at your side looking shocked but you had passed straight into anger. Of course you knew that Logan had thought you were a call girl when he first met you, but this was worse somehow. Maybe because of how crass he was being.
“Well Mr Delos, I don’t know where to start except to say that you’re completely out of line,” you began, not even caring when he started to get angry at how you were speaking to him. “I’ll have you know that Juliet gave me an invite to this party and I am acquainted with your son, yes, but not in the way you are thinking.”
James looked between you and his daughter who was starting to smirk.
“So who is she?”
It wasn’t said to you as if the man had dismissed your presence completely. And while you were never one to throw your name around, you’d had it.
“I am Y/N Y/L/N, CEO of Y/L/N International. I’d say it was a pleasure, but I’d hate to lie,” you said simply with as much apathy in your voice as possible.
Juliet snorted and raised her glass to cover her reaction. Her father had the good sense to look at least a little apologetic as he gave a tight nod in your direction. Whether he was showing respect to your name and title or to the fact that he knew your father, you weren’t sure. And honestly you didn’t care.
Had you once been cowed by this man? Suddenly he looked to be less of the titan that you had always imagined him to be.
“You sure do know how to make a first impression dad,” a familiar voice drawled from your side. You turned to find Logan grinning as he walked up to the three of you. “You won’t mind if I steal her away, would you?”
He wrapped his arm around your waist and dragged you off without another word from his father or his sister. Juliet was grinning but there was also surprise in her eyes as she watched Logan lead you away.
Yeah, you really didn’t think she knew about the two of you.
“That might have been a little obvious Logan,” you lightly scolded as he walked you towards the side of the room where no one was standing.
“Obvious would be me dragging you out of this party and having my way with you in the hallway,” he teased as his hand skimmed up your shoulder. “You look so goddamn beautiful in this dress. The moment I saw it, I just couldn’t stop thinking about taking it off of you.”
You bit your lip as you looked around the room. While you felt freer when you were with Logan, that didn’t mean that you were comfortable with it all just yet. He seemed to notice because he dropped his hand. His smile didn’t fade though.
“I’m glad you came,” he said finally.
“Just because I gave your dad a verbal smackdown?”
“No, but that helped,” he said with a wide smile as he raised his drink to his lips. “No, I just missed you. I like spending time with you when a phone isn’t involved. Especially since you refuse to have phone sex with me.”
That made you laugh. He’d been flirty one night and you’d told him you weren’t going to have phone sex with him. After he promised that that wasn’t what he’d been aiming for, he told you he wouldn’t mind if you changed your mind.
It’d been a joke, just like now.
“So what do these shindigs usually entail? Drinking? Setting piles of money on fire? Ritual sacrifice?”
He laughed and looked around at the party goers.
“If it’s the last one, you should probably leave. Rival CEOs are hard to come by,” he teased as he looked back at you. “He just gets everyone drunk, has a few people make investments, and then… well, I can show you.”
He put his drink down and then took your drink to put it down as well. He grabbed your hand and started to tug you out of the room and into the hallway. His comment from before was still present in the back of your mind and you glanced behind you to make sure no one had noticed.
“I’m not fucking you in the hallway,” you hissed at him as he continued to drag you down darkened hallways.
He paused for a moment and looked at you over his shoulder.
“What about my childhood bedroom?” At your glare, he laughed and went back to leading you down the hall. “That was a joke Y/N. He turned my bedroom into a fucking library when I got kicked out.”
That was a surprise. Logan had been kicked out but James still wanted him involved with the company? Maybe it was his way of trying to make Logan show some responsibility.
What you didn’t think James Delos knew was that Logan was very responsible. With the business at least. Between that and just how smart he was, you knew he could do well in the company if James would ever give him the chance.
After the two of you went down a flight of stairs, you were starting to get a little apprehensive. Not about being caught, although that was there too. You just didn’t know what he was doing.
“Where are you taking me?”
He smiled as the two of you came to a dimly lit hallway. There was one door and he went straight to it. On the wall beside the door was a palm reader that Logan pressed his hand against.
“If it requires a hand print, I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed,” you protested when he pulled you into the room. Logan didn’t even bother shushing you.
The door slid shut behind the two of you, but you barely noticed. In the middle of the room were two people, a man and a woman. They were dressed similarly to the guests upstairs, but there was something off with them. Logan had let go of your hand and you moved so that you were in front of the two of them.
Their eyes were open, but there was absolutely nothing there. No light, no life. You realized what it was that was off with them; they were.
“Hosts?”
Logan nodded and ushered you forward with a hand on the small of your back. You stumbled a bit as you looked at them.
“They look so real,” you said as you stared at them in awe. “I mean, I knew that they were lifelike, but I never imagined it.”
They weren’t breathing, no inhale or exhale. You wondered if their skin would be warm to the touch but you didn’t dare reach out to see.
Logan walked around the two of them, his hand brushing their shoulders as he did.
“These are two of the newer ones James Delos wants to show off, just to remind people what their money funds,” he said as he crossed back around to stand in front of the woman. He cupped her cheek a bit before he turned back to look at you. “You can see why people would want to fuck them. Completely lifelike, built with all capabilities. They can fuck, fight, drink, die; they are all the fun parts of being human except they get to start all over at the end.”
There was something cold settling in your stomach as you stared at the hosts. His words rolled around in your head as you stared at them. The man had a little wrinkle between his eyebrows, the hint of a dimple in his cheek. The woman had beautiful red hair piled up on the back of her head with a thin tendril that curled over her neck.
They were all the fun parts of being human. Guests went to the parks to sleep with the hosts, to kill them. And at the end, they were rebooted and did it all over again. Their skin would be replaced so that there wasn’t proof of any damage, fake blood and maybe guts filling their shells.
“There’s scientific studies,” you said quietly as you stared at the two of them, your voice drawing Logan’s eyes to you, “that all of the faces that we dream are people that we have encountered. That we’re not able to invent the face of someone new.”
Logan turned to you fully at that.
“Sounds familiar,” he said slowly, his head cocked as he stared at you.
You looked at the two hosts one last time before you looked at Logan.
“How are they designed? Is there someone in a lab using a program? Or are they based off real people?”
Logan shrugged a shoulder as he looked back at them.
“I think some of them might be based off of people who signed a consent form,” he started to explain but you shook your head.
“I doubt they consented to having their likeness fucked and killed thousands of times before their doppelganger was retired,” you protested as you took a step back. “But they don’t know that they aren’t real, do they? They think they are human. They feel, they bleed, they love?”
Logan shook his head as he approached you, grabbing your wrist gently as he did.
“They aren’t real,” he reminded you. “Those things? They are just robots. There’s wires inside of them, things that make them move. No matter how real they look, they’ll never be real.”
You shook your head as you tried not to look at them again.
“I think sometimes, as scientists, we flirt with the line between what is possible and what is moral. They… they might not be real, but they don’t know that. How… how do you know that you’re not one of them?”
“Because there are pictures of me as a baby. And I was born before they were created,” he said as if it wasn’t a completely absurd question that you’d asked. “Listen, sometimes people react this way when they see them for the first time. You’re not the first one that had a conscience crisis when you realize how real they are.”
“I know they aren’t real,” you said with a shake of your head, but you weren’t completely discounting him, “but seeing them for myself has just made me rethink a few things.”
Janus. Knowing what you knew now, you weren’t sure if using hosts would be a good idea. The sims, if you could ever make them last, were real enough. It wouldn’t involve the image of a person that might come to harm in the same way that a real human could.
You’d heard the stories about what people did in the parks with the freedom it allowed. It was a cold reality but you knew that people were just as depraved out here in civilization, they just hid it better.
“Let’s get out of here,” he said as he reached up to cup your cheek, his thumb brushing against your cheek. “Out of this room, out of this party. Let’s go for a drive. Somewhere, anywhere.”
There was a plaintive note in his voice and you realized he was worried about you. You smiled and covered his hand with yours.
“I’d like that. But shouldn’t you stay? It’s a party that your father is throwing.”
He laughed and pressed his forehead to yours for a second before he pulled back, keeping your hand in his as he started to pull you towards the doors.
“If he notices that I’m gone, I’ll just tell him I left with a hooker.”
You elbowed his side as he opened the door. With one last look at the hosts, you stepped back into the hallway. It was an amazing experience, and you would tell Logan that as well, but you weren’t sure how comfortable the whole thing made you anymore.
And to think that you had wanted to create something like that for commercial use. Maybe they were better off in the parks.
You made it to the hallway with Logan before your phone started to buzz in your clutch.
“Don’t answer it,” he said as his hands went to your hips. “Just you and me, c’mon.”
You sighed because it sounded so good, but you knew you needed to at least see who it was. With an apologetic smile, you pulled the phone out. It was Amelia, your assistant.
“Amelia, hi,” you greeted as you grabbed Logan’s hand, still allowing him to guide you through the many halls.
“Y/N? You need to get to the office right away,” she said in a voice that you had only heard once before.
When she had called you about the accident your family had been in.
“What is it? What’s happened?”
Logan stopped walking, hearing the panic in your voice. You couldn’t stop picturing your family in another accident as you waited for Amelia to speak again.
“It’s one of the projects in the lab, uh, codenamed Orpheus?”
You sighed in relief.
“I know there’s been some glitches in the prototypes,” you began, but she cut you off.
“No Y/N, you don’t understand. The whole system has been hijacked. The prototypes, the new models that were in beta testing, and the ones that were ready for launch. We can’t seem to find the origin point, but it looks like there might be some corrupt data.”
Shit. You dropped Logan’s hand and hiked up your dress a bit so that you could rush down the hall without fear of tripping. Logan stayed with you, directing you the quickest route.
“I’m on my way to the office now,” you told Amelia, listening to her sigh of relief. “Get all of the engineers to the lab if they aren’t already there. And call Marco, tell him we need any research that he’s performed.”
“But Y/N–”
“I’ve got to go Amelia, but I’ll be there as soon as I can. Thanks for calling me.”
You hung up and slipped your phone into your clutch after you texted your driver to meet you at the front of the house.
“I’m sorry, there’s something at the office that needs my immediate attention,” you apologized as Logan led you to a side door. “If it was anything else, I’d blow it off and stay with you.”
“I appreciate that,” he said honestly as he walked you around to the front of the house. “At least you’re not sneaking out on me this time.”
You ducked your head at that.
“Did I ever apologize for that?”
He reached up to cup your jaw, drawing his fingers across your bottom lip a bit. His eyes narrowed in on the movement, tracing the progress of his finger before he met your eyes again.
“If you’d gone home with me that night, we would have stayed in bed for a very long time, but it probably wouldn’t have gone farther than that. Now?” He shook his head with a smile. “You’re under my skin, Y/N Y/L/N, and I don’t think I want to get rid of you.”
Damn this man for being the exact thing you needed. A car pulled up behind you and Logan led you to it. He opened the door to the back seat. Before you slid in, you turned back to look at him. His dark eyes widened a bit as you surged forward, capturing his lips in a heated kiss. He wrapped a hand around your neck, his other arm going around your waist as he held you close.
The kiss tasted exactly how you thought it would; whisky and sugar and an endless heat that you wished would engulf you. And he was a better kisser than you could have imagined. His tongue slipped between your lips and teased against yours, tasting you and seducing you even more.
When you pulled back, your chest was heaving with the lack of oxygen. Logan’s eyes were heavy lidded as he stared at your mouth for a moment before he met your eyes.
“I was right,” he breathed against your lips.
“About what?”
He grinned at you lazily, his thumb brushing against the side of your neck.
“Those lips are going to star in a lot of my fantasies.”
It was what he had said that first night when the two of you were about to share your first kiss. You smiled at him, instantly endeared, and leaned up to kiss him once more. It was soft and sweet, over too soon as he pulled back.
“Get in that car before I make it my mission to convince you to ditch your duties,” he said as he released you, a joke but with an undercurrent that told you he was also being serious.
You swallowed as you got into the car, making sure your dress wasn’t sticking out. Logan leaned in before you could shut the door, pressing his lips to yours one last time. As if he couldn’t help himself.
“Call or text me when everything settles down? I owe you a drive,” he said with a smile before he shut the door, tapping the top to let your driver know he was good to go.
You leaned back in the seat and covered your mouth. You were facing a major issue back at the office, but all you could think about right then was Logan’s lips against yours and how badly you wanted to feel it again.

Logan looked a little like he had just been told your house held all of his worst fears. He was staring at the large front doors with an apprehension you’d never seen on his face before. It was a little endearing.
“It’s just my family,” you said as you went back down the stairs to where he had stopped walking.
“God what I wouldn’t give for a joint right now,” he said with a grimace. When he met your unimpressed stare, he grinned. “I’m joking. Definitely joking.”
“Let’s not joke about drugs when you’re ten feet from my front door, please and thank you.”
“Oh come on, it’s not even illegal,” he said with a roll of his eyes. Then a little more seriously, “I’ve never had to meet someone’s parents as a romantic partner. Benefit of keeping things to casual sex I guess.”
You held your hand out and waited for him to take it. Then with a grin, you tugged him forward with you.
“Time to put your best foot forward Logan,” you said softly, giving his hand a comforting squeeze. “Just don’t make an references to the fact that you’ve seen me naked or our sex life and it’ll be fine.”
Logan pressed a kiss to your temple before the two of you made your way up onto the porch. You gave his hand another comforting squeeze before you knocked on the door.
When it opened, your mom gave you a strange look.
“Since when do you knock? Get in here,” she said with a wave of her arm. As you tugged Logan with you, she gave him a more discerning look. “Ah, this must be Logan Delos. Good to finally meet you after how many times I’ve heard your name in the last few days.”
You felt heat rush to your cheeks and you tried to tug Logan through the door with you but he held his ground.
“You have a lovely home, Mrs Y/L/N. I’ve met your husband on a few occasions but never had the pleasure of meeting you.” He took her hand in a brief handshake, giving her that smile that usually made your IQ drop about ten points.
Your mom blinked at him for a moment before she turned to you with a grin.
“Oh he’s good,” she said before she finally stepped back to usher Logan in. “Come on in. Your father and Jo are waiting in the living room.”
Logan breathed out a sigh of relief as he led him through the foyer.
“One down, two to go,” he whispered in your ear with another squeeze of your hand.
You’d talked to Jo about Logan being there for dinner. She hadn’t minded him knowing about her accident and her injury; she also hadn’t been surprised when you shyly admitted he already knew. You were pretty sure that Jo was already on board with the whole you and Logan thing, but you hadn’t admitted that to him just yet.
Didn’t want him to put his guard down. He’d need it with your dad.
In the living room, your mom moved past you to head back into the kitchen. It left you and Logan with your dad and Jo. Jo was grinning at the two of you and your dad… well he looked resigned, but not upset. He actually looked a little amused.
“Mr Y/L/N,” Logan said with a nod in his direction since they’d met before. Then to your sister, “And Miss Y/L/N. I’ve heard a lot about you from your sister.”
Jo shook her head with a laugh, rolling over to the two of you and offering her hand.
“Just call me Jo,” she offered as they shook hands. Then with a grin, she looked between the two of you. “Relax guys. It’s dinner, not the Spanish Inquisition.”
Your dad stood up and moved to offer his hand to Logan.
“Logan,” he said with a nod, careful not to address him by his last name as Logan had done. “Thanks for joining us.”
“Thanks for inviting me,” Logan said as he looked from your family back to you. “I know you probably have a lot of reservations about my relationship with Y/N, but it means a lot to both of us that you’re willing to try.”
Your dad nodded, meeting your eye for a moment before he leveled Logan with a stern look.
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my daughters. Nothing,” he repeated with emphasis.
As far as shovel talks go, it was pretty understated.
“Dinner is ready,” your mom called from the other room.
Your dad grabbed Jo’s wheelchair to push her into the dining room. You turned to look at Logan and gave him a grin. His eyes were still wide, but you could see some of the tension had left his shoulders.
“They really are trying, aren’t they?”
You looked over your shoulder to make sure no one was watching before you leaned in to give him a kiss.
“Welcome to what a supportive family should look like,” you whispered against his lips before you leaned back once more. “Come on. Let’s eat.”
It was going to be okay. This, at least, was going to be okay.
------
Logan and your father were lamenting about a mutual acquaintance who neither of them liked to deal with. While they usually stayed clear of work topics, it seemed like they were doing okay.
That in mind, you left the two of them alone. It had been over two weeks since you'd first introduced Logan to your family and each visit had gone spectacularly. Logan slowly got more comfortable until you noticed he wasn't on edge anymore. He was as comfortable around them as he was around you.
"He's charming," your mom said from beside your sister on the couch, giving you a grin. "I can see why you fell for him."
You flopped down on the couch with them, tossing your legs over your mom's lap. Jo reached over and pinched your toe, grinning at you when you jerked your foot away.
"I don't know about falling," you said as you tucked your legs under you.
"Don't be an idiot Y/N. You obviously love the guy," Jo said in a low voice so that the men wouldn't hear in the other room.
You felt that warmth that usually sit in your chest start to grow. You hadn't wanted to give a name to the feeling, but your sister wasn't wrong. You'd definitely fallen for Logan.
And it wasn't so much that you thought Logan wouldn't feel the same. You just thought it was too soon.
"Let's talk about something else," your mom said as she squeezed your knee. "Where do you think we should go for Christmas? Your dad was thinking about going to the cabin."
The three of you talked about options. You were surprised by your mom reminding you to tell Logan to check his calendar as well. Usually these trips were just the four of you.
They really had taken him into the fold.
"Y/N?" You looked up at the sound of your name, frowning as your dad came into a room with his phone. "Have you checked your phone? Something came through."
Your phone was probably on silent. He handed you his phone and you looked at the alert.
A large scale heist had taken place. The things that were stolen were mostly scientific equipment and other lab equipment. The thieves had targeted multiple companies, including Delos and Y/L/N.
Now you could hear Logan in the other room on the phone. He must have gotten the news too.
You went to your phone and sure enough, you had about seven missed calls. It seemed like everything was going up in flames and you were on the other side of the country.
The next hour was spent talking to the authorities back home as well as your people. It had been an electronic hack, with information being pulled off from the archives. It meant the thief—Marco, it had to be Marco—had access to every project Y/L/N had ever worked on.
Logan came in to tell you what had happened on their end.
"Looks like some of our expo warehouses were broken into. They stole equipment, materials, and plans." He looked at you with a frown. "It's all the items needed to build hosts."
Marco. If you had any doubt before, that was all erased.
"He had to have help," your dad said as he typed something on his phone. "No way he's stealing from as many places as he is without it."
"But who? A Delos employees? Y/L/N?"
Logan came over and put his hand on your back.
"It's probably more than one. It wouldn't surprise me if it was from both our companies either."
You thought all your employees loved working for Y/L/N but maybe it made sense. There's always people who wanted more.
"I've got to get back out there. Dad is calling a board meeting to discuss what's going on."
You knew that would happen. You squeezed his hand with a tense smile. It wasn't like you thought you couldn't do this without him. You just didn't want to.
"You should go too," your dad said, surprising everyone. "As much as I want you safe, the company needs you at the helm. Go out there, be safe, and hopefully this will all end soon."
Logan gave your hand a squeeze before he released it.
"I need to go back to the hotel and pack. And I need to call the jet and make sure it's ready. Want me to pick you back up when it's time?"
You leaned in to give him a quick kiss.
"Just call me and tell me when to be there. I'll have someone bring me."
He gave you another kiss and then went around to say goodbye to your family. Your mom gave him a hug which looked like a surprise to Logan. Jo kissed his cheek and gave his hand a brief squeeze.
Your dad shook Logan's hand as you both walked him to the door.
"Be safe out there son. And take care of my little girl," he said with a serious nod.
Logan wrapped his arm around your waist and kissed your forehead. There was a little surprise on his face, either from being called son or the easy acceptance in your dad's voice.
"I plan on it."
When Logan left, you turned to look at your dad who was shaking his head.
"That is a good man," he said quietly, looking over at you. "Better than his father, that's for sure."
You looked up at him with a small smile.
"Is that approval I hear?"
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
"By God, I think it is."
------
Your dad offered to bring you to the air strip. He was quiet the whole way which was a bit of a surprise. You had thought he'd be talking your ear off about strategy.
When he pulled up to the small private airport where the private jet was parked, he placed his hand on your arm before you could get out of the car. He leaned forward and opened the glove compartment, pulling out a revolver.
"Dad!"
"Look, just because you have to be out there doesn't mean I have to let you go without being safe. Put it in a box in the closet for all I care, but take it. It'll put your old man's mind at ease."
You put the gun in your purse after you made sure the safety was on. Your knowledge of guns was pretty limited but you weren't completely ignorant.
"Good thing we aren't flying commercial," you joked tensely as you closed your purse. "I'll keep you guys updated. Hopefully with Marco making more trouble for himself, he'll be caught soon."
"Can't be soon enough for me," your dad said. He leaned in to kiss your cheek and then laughed. "I think your man is about to come get you."
Sure enough Logan had finished talking to the pilot and had started towards the car. While he leaned in to talk to your dad, you grabbed your bag from the back seat. Logan grabbed it from you as you both waved at your dad before he escorted you towards the plane.
"How is your dad handling everything?"
Logan scoffed as the two of you sat down on one of the couches to prepare for take off.
"He's less certain it's your company now," he joked before he rubbed a hand over his eyes. "I don't know Y/N; if this shit had happened two or three months ago, I probably would have shrugged it off. Corporate espionage and a guy who was unpredictable, it's titillating but it's also boring. Stealing from multi million or billion dollar companies? Who cares. But now?"
You waited for him to continue. When he didn't, you gave his hand a squeeze.
"But now?"
He sighed and turned to look at you.
"Now I actually care. Not just because it's happening to you and I obviously care about you, but I actually care what happens to the company. I've done more work for them in the last two months than I have in all of the years I've been on the board."
You smiled at him, raising an eyebrow a bit.
"That's not saying much considering your last name is on the building," you said as you knocked your shoulder into his, "but it's good you care. It's your company too. And one day maybe you'll be running it. You or Juliet."
He shook his head as he looked at your joined hands.
"Jules doesn't want it. She's holding on for dad to step down or for us to vote him out, but she doesn't want to be involved. That company is what ruined our mom. She only sticks around because she uses her money and name to make a difference. That and because I’m still there."
Logan had told you a bit about his mom. She was in a facility, almost unable to care for herself. She had fallen into alcohol and pills very badly after being left by the great James Delos.
It worried you how much Logan seemed to be like his mom, but if you had anything to say about it, he'd never reach rock bottom.
"Delos will be in good hands once you're in charge," you said as you raised your clasped hands to kiss his knuckles.
Talking about his mom did make you think of something else.
"You know, I don't think I've seen you touch anything harder than alcohol since you and I got together."
He stared at you for a moment, an honest smile starting at grow on his lips.
"I told you before, the drugs and the sex was all just to pass the time. Reality didn't seem to matter, everything was routine." He squeezed your hand before he added, "Then I met you and I realized that reality can be better than fantasy."
It was such a line, but you felt like he meant it. He had said he had lied. And it made you think of what you, Jo, and your mom had been talking about.
You did love Logan. You weren't ready to tell him that just yet, but maybe you could one day. And just maybe he'd say it back.
------
You slumped onto the couch next to Logan, whining a bit as you did. He tugged your feet onto his lap and started to massage one, digging his thumbs into the bottom of your foot.
"You had a bad day too, huh?"
Logan had called you earlier about his day. James Delos was on the warpath over everything that had happened. And Logan understood that but he didn't think firing an entire department was the way to go.
"We are sifting through the archives that were accessed but we can't tell what was the point of entry or what the target was. We have consultants coming in to do more digging. I left Buckley in charge since I haven't slept in two days."
Logan made a noise, his thumbs pausing on your foot.
"Buckley is the head of the division, right? He took over from you when you became the CEO."
"Took back over, technically. He was the head before I took over and so I just promoted him back to it."
Logan nodded slowly.
"Was Marco in the running for the position?" he asked, staring intently.
"I mean, he was a step below me I guess, but Buckley had been in the position before. I just thought he was a better fit."
He nodded his understanding. He gripped your ankle lightly, his thumb rubbing against your skin.
"What if we have this all wrong? What if Marco isn't stalking you because he's obsessed with you? What if he's mad that he got passed up for a promotion?"
You bit your lip as you thought about it. It made sense, in a way. You weren't certain that's what it was though.
"I still think we're missing something. Something that would answer all these questions of why he's doing this."
Logan grabbed your arm and tugged you into his lap.
"We'll figure it out. Together."
------
The lab was set up exactly how the plans had shown. All of the necessary equipment and materials were nearby. There was a wall of computers running the programs that were necessary for what the plan entailed.
Marco walked up to one of the plans and started to flick through photos he had uploaded. Y/N and Logan. Y/N and Logan. Logan and Y/N. Logan. Y/N. Logan. Y/N.
It was time to begin.

*****
The office was quiet but that's why you liked it this early. You slipped into your office and quietly shut the door.
Solitude was hard to come by these days. Someone always wanted something from you. Your father wanted you to push boundaries, your sister wanted you to find a social life, your coworkers–employees, now–wanted you to guide them into the future. Everyone wanted something from you and it didn't leave much left.
But early in the morning, before everyone else came to the office? You loved those moments. It was quiet and peaceful, just you and your paperwork as the sun slowly started to filter in through the large windows that surrounded your office.
Alpha testing on the sims was almost complete. Marco's very detailed memos told you that things were headed in the right direction. You were extraordinarily excited for what was next.
This was what was going to put Y/L/N on the map. Maybe even overtake the competition completely.
Unbidden a quick image of Logan came to mind but you shook your head. Three weeks. It's been three weeks; surely you'd stop thinking about him at some point?
Taking down Delos wasn't personal for you the way it was for your dad. He hated James Delos and the thought of trampling them into the ground made him strive for more. You tried to explain that leaving you in the lab would achieve that quicker, but he wouldn't hear it.
"You're my daughter, a Y/L/N, not a scientist."
Like you couldn't be both. Like your degrees cared what last name was written on them.
A new memo was in your inbox so you opened it up. Marco often sent more updates than needed, but you didn't mind. This was the only way you could follow the progression it seemed.
Project Janus:
We seem to have hit a snare. The sims are incredibly lifelike until we try to spawn them. Each one has a different and yet similar reaction and ultimately fails. We don't have the right coding yet.
Marco
Dammit. This wasn't how it was supposed to go at all. Without the exact right coding, the sims would never be enough and never leave alpha testing.
It wasn't that you thought you could do it better than they could. Your people were some of the best in the world. You just wished you were still down there getting your hands dirty.
But maybe there was a different way for you to get your hands dirty.
You opened a drawer and fished out a card that you had slipped under the black metal pen box. The card was high quality; the type of card stock that would come apart almost more like cloth than paper. On the front in neat black type was one name and phone number.
James Delos
You tapped the card on the top of your desk as you thought through your next step. Your dad would kill you. Your sister would disown you.
But Y/L/N would succeed.
Without another thought, you picked up your desk phone and dialed. A soft voice answered, his secretary explaining that Mr Delos doesn't accept calls before a certain time.
"He'll want to take this call," you offered with more confidence than you felt. "Tell him this is Y/N Y/L/N and I'd like to have a chat."
------
The meeting was at a working lunch. James Delos had told you that he was going to send one of his shareholders out to meet with you. It would keep some of the heat off of both your companies until it could be determined if it was going to work or not.
You weren't sure which shareholder you'd be meeting with until you saw the man entering the restaurant.
Shareholder? More like future son in law. William Wyatt had a foot in the door, sure, but by securing a marriage to Juliet Delos, he was making himself indispensable. And apparently it was working because James trusted him with matters that directly affected Delos Inc.
William headed in your direction, a far cry from the cutthroat businessman you expected to join you. You almost wondered if James Delos was taking you seriously at all.
"Ah, Miss Y/L/N," he greeted as he go to your side, offering his hand to you when you stood to greet him. "It's a pleasure to finally put a face to a name."
You gave a tight lipped smile as both of you sat down again. The waiter came over to take your orders, a bored look on her face as she did. You ordered a salad and a water, something light since you had a feeling that this wasn't going to be a very productive meeting, but you came up short when William mentioned someone else was coming.
"My associate will be joining us in a moment," he offered with a smile.
An associate of William's? Another shareholder perhaps? You tried to hide your frown.
James Delos should have just told you that he wasn't interested. This was just ridiculous.
"Ah. There he is," William said as he looked up at the entrance.
You followed his gaze and immediately choked on your tongue. Somehow it didn't occur to you that Logan might come. You hadn't thought the universe could be that cruel.
He was looking at his phone so he hadn't noticed you yet. Part of you wondered if you could slip away without being noticed. William was trying to flag down Logan without causing too much a ruckus and you were trying to sink into your chair.
When Logan did look up, he noticed William's awkward movements first. Then his eyes went to you. And the immediate flash of recognition made you wish you could have slipped away before he looked. There was a heat in his eyes that you didn’t mistake as anything other than displeasure at seeing you after you ditched him three weeks ago.
"Better late than never," William muttered as Logan approached.
Logan heard the words and his eyes landed on you once more. His eyebrow raised as he moved to sit next to William.
"Better late than never," he repeated as he settled in to his seat. He didn't offer you his hand or introduce himself.
He didn't need to.
"Uh," William said uncertainly as he looked between the two of you. "Y/N, this is Logan Delos. Logan, this is Y/N Y/L/N."
His eyes narrowed a bit at your name, but that was the only reaction you got. He slung his arm over the small wall that sat behind their chairs, gesturing with his freehand to you.
“You requested this meeting, Miss Y/L/N,” he said, drawing your last name out a few extra syllables.
“So I did,” you said under your breath. “As I explained to Mr Delos–”
“My father,” Logan said with a pointed look that hopefully William missed.
“–I have a proposition for Delos Inc,” you continued as if he hadn’t interrupted. “My company will soon be launching a new product. As you may know, Y/L/N is more prominent on the east coast. Out here we are still making our bones.”
“You’ve done pretty well for yourself,” William said as he leaned in a bit, pressing his forearms against the table. “Y/L/N rivals Delos Inc in some of the virtual reality aspects that you’ve developed.”
Logan shifted as if he was uncomfortable with William mentioning that. You smiled politely and moved on without addressing that part. It wouldn’t serve your purpose to put them on the defensive right then.
“The product that we’re launching could use a foothold here on the west coast,” you continued, but Logan cut in before you could say anything else.
“How much?” At your startled look, he shrugged his shoulder and gave you a small smirk. “It’s obvious that you’re asking Delos to invest. A fifty-fifty split before the launch?”
“Seventy-five, twenty-five. We’re not looking for a venture capitalist, just a foothold. Y/L/N and Delos Inc rub elbows a little bit and then when it comes time to launch, the company has a good enough reputation to build from.”
William nodded his head as if it made perfect sense. He turned to look at Logan, his eyebrows drawing together as he looked at his associate. Logan looked positively unimpressed.
“What would your father say about you getting in bed with the enemy?”
It hit too close to home. Heat started to trickle up your neck and you forced yourself to stay composed.
“I’m not a board member or a shareholder, Mr Delos; I’m the CEO. I make the decisions that I think are best for my company and I don’t need to ask permission to do something.”
It was a low blow and by the glare you received, you knew the blow landed. He sat up a bit straighter, his eyes darting off to the side. You could see mental calculations going before he cleared his throat. He nudged William and drew his attention to a woman that was standing near one of the other tables.
“Isn’t that Claudia? One of Juliet’s bridesmaids?” At William’s nod, Logan nudged him again. “You should go say hello. The wedding is coming up and you’ll need to make nice with the sorority sisters.”
Reluctantly, William excused himself before he made his way over to the woman. You watched him retreat because it felt safer than staring at the man in front of you.
“I’m going to be honest,” he said lowly, “but getting involved with your company makes me a little apprehensive. If you can’t be trusted to keep your word on some things, why should I believe you now?”
Payback for your earlier jab. You turned and met his eyes, forcing yourself not to get lost in the darkness.
“I didn’t go with you because I found out you are a Delos. I’m not interested in mixing business with pleasure,” you said simply with a shrug, picking up your water to sip at it before you continued. “I’m completely dedicated to my company. I wouldn’t do anything to put it in jeopardy.”
He cocked his head as he stared at you, obviously weighing your words. Finally he reached out for a drink that you hadn’t even noticed be delivered to the table.
“What’s this product that you want us to invest in?”
You pulled your clutch up and removed a thin USB thumbdrive. You let it rest in your palm for a moment before you looked back at Logan.
“It’s called project Orpheus. It’s an interface system, direct and three dimensional. This,” you said as you held up the thumbdrive, “is the censored version of our research thus far. It’s all copyrighted, so I can allow you to see it, but only if you’re serious about investing. I’m not out here to play games.”
Logan, who had teetered between intrigue and disinterest in you since he had arrived, finally showed a new emotion: respect. He glanced over to where poor William seemed to be getting an earful from a woman with too much enthusiasm. Then he looked back at you.
Had you thought the feeling you’d felt with those black eyes on you had been a fluke? Brought on by alcohol and being in a new place and the lack of any connection as the attractive man seduced you with a few looks and a few honeyed words? You felt like you were being lit on fire from the inside as he stared at you right now.
“I’ll make my recommendation to my father based on what your Orpheus shows us,” he said as he held his hand out. “The potential in investing with Y/L/N will outweigh any scuff ups from us being rivals.”
That’s what you were counting on. You dropped the thumbdrive in his palm but you weren’t quick enough to pull your hand away before his brushed yours.
One touch and you were ready to throw the whole plan to hell.
“You boys can stay and enjoy lunch on my company,” you said as you stood up, grabbing your clutch once more. “My number is on the drive so have one of your people give us a call if you decide to go through with it. The thumbdrive is set to wipe itself in twelve hours and will corrupt if copied, so try not to screw me over.”
He smirked as he leaned back in his seat, his drink hanging from his fingers.
“I think I’ve learned my lesson from trying to screw you,” he said with a raised eyebrow.
Yup, you weren’t going to address that. Instead you turned and left the restaurant, not even waiting to say goodbye to William.
Hopefully your little gambit worked. Otherwise your racing heart was for nothing.
------
“I’ve got those schematics you were looking for this morning,” Marco said as he came into your office, putting them down on the table. “Why were you looking at Orpheus? That project has been ready for launch for months.”
“I pitched an investment to Delos Inc,” you admitted, not willing to lie just then.
Marco looked absolutely stunned.
“To Delos? But they are your rivals. Your father–”
“Trusts me to do what I have to.”
He gave you a nod before he settled down in the chair across from you. He still looked a little apprehensive, but you saw something else there. He didn’t wait long before mentioning it.
“Why would you pitch Orpheus for investment? It’s fully funded and, like I said, ready for launch already.”
You tapped a finger against the schematics he had brought you.
“Because Janus isn’t ready. We can’t launch Janus without something under our belt already, even if it was one hundred percent ready. Orpheus is small enough that we can launch it with Delos as an investor and then anything that follows has the immediate step up.”
The realization came over his face and he grinned at you.
“And we can transfer our funds from Orpheus to Janus since it’ll be made up by Delos. And once Janus is ready, we can piggyback off the success from Orpheus.”
You smirked and leaned forward a bit.
“I pitched twenty five but honestly? If they give us ten percent, we’ll be over budget for Janus and Orpheus. All I have to do is make Orpheus last long enough to get Janus out of beta testing and we’ll be golden.”
You’d thought this through quite a lot. You still couldn’t believe how close you were to having it come true. Marco was staring at you with such admiration that you felt a little uncomfortable, but you allowed yourself a moment to bask anyways.
This was why your dad put you in this position. You’d do anything you had to to make Y/L/N successful. And if it gave you one up on Delos Inc, where was the harm in that?

“The light wouldn’t turn off,” you said as you handed Marco the tablet you had your Orpheus link up on. “I did the commands but it didn’t even blink.”
He looked over the information curiously and you knew the moment he saw the last part.
“You had to manually turn it off? Wow, okay,” he said as he tapped on a few things, frowning. “I’m going to run a few diagnostics on the unit.”
“Do I need to bring my unit in?”
“No, this should be fine,” he muttered as he focused in on the tablet. “I’ll let you know if I need the hardware, but I have a feeling it’s part of that original glitch we experienced. I’ll work on it.”
You thanked him before you turned to leave the lab. From the corner of your eye you could see someone on the side with the Janus project and you moved over to the view and looked down. One of the engineers was working with one of your coding specialists.
In front of them was the large screen which showed, in words, the neural transmission from the electrodes that the engineer was wearing. On the screen were different colored lines that showed brainwaves. And on another screen was the holographic image of the engineer that was performing the same movements the engineer was doing.
The holograms worked fine. The sims, slightly more realistic but still not tangible, would only hold for a short time.
Marco had a point that it might work better in a host, but you couldn’t just steal one. Not for this. Janus would give people the chance to experience life in a new way. Theoretically the sim could live out your day to day without you ever having to take one step out the door.
A host might work better. It could be created to resemble the person. It would mean that you could live your life without the worry of a car accident or being shot during a robbery. It would give disabled people a chance to experience new things. There were so many options and you wanted to implement them all.
But first you needed Janus to be successful.
Hopefully it would work. You were putting a lot on the line here.
------
The art gallery opening was your first real event as the CEO of Y/L/N. The invite was to your company, your name was written in a swirling script. This was your first time representing the company on such a scale.
And it was completely underwhelming.
You walked through the gallery with feigned interest but honestly you would prefer to be at home in your sweats. You knew that this was part of the deal, but you weren't a fan of schmoozing. Your sister was better at it.
A beautiful young woman with dark brown hair curled over her shoulders had greeted you when you first arrived, but you weren't sure who she was. And every time you passed by her, she looked like she was about to approach you but she never did.
It made you feel a little uncomfortable although you weren't sure why. At least not until you heard another person at the gallery greet her by name.
Juliet. With that hair and those eyes, you knew she had to be Juliet Delos.
And if she was paying that much attention to you? You could only imagine what that was about.
"You're Y/N, aren't you?"
You spun around in surprise. As if you had conjured her, Juliet was behind you.
"Yes?"
The look she gave you was so close to a look you'd seen on Logan's face that you felt a little off balance. The Delos siblings definitely got the luck of the draw when it came to their genes. They were both painfully attractive people.
"I thought so. My brother can be quite emphatic with his descriptions," she said as she linked her arms through yours to guide you to the bar.
That made heat spread through you. The thought that Logan had talked about you enough that she could recognize you be sight? You weren't sure what to do with that information.
"Listen, Miss Delos, I just–"
"Juliet, please. I might have that last name by birth but I don't like to flaunt that."
That was a surprise. At the very least her brother didn't mind using their last name to get what he wanted.
"Juliet. I just want to say that I'm not sure what your brother told you about me, but it's not–"
"Oh I know what it's not, no worries. He was quick to inform me that the two of you have a strictly business relationship," she drawled in a good imitation of his speech. The eyebrow wiggle helped really sell it. "I also know that you're the reason my brother missed a meeting with our father the night you met."
That definitely drew you up short. If Logan was spreading around that the two of you had slept together, you might just have to kill the man.
"And I can see by your face that you're assuming the worst. No, he told me you stood him up. Good on you, by the way," she said as she flagged down the bartender. "I meant that after Logan waited for you and you never showed, he came over to my place and got so drunk that he was useless for a full day."
After you and Juliet got your drinks from the bartender, she led you over to a little secluded couch. Side by side, you addressed the last thing she had said.
"He got drunk because I didn't show up?"
She grinned as she rested her glass on her knee.
"I think that was part of it. He seemed pretty taken by you, to be honest, but not enough to drown his sorrows. No, I think he got drunk because the alternative would be to go to our father and he wasn't feeling up to that after being stood up."
You didn't know how to feel. Excited because you had apparently enticed Logan Delos that much? Or saddened by the knowledge that he'd rather get drunk than work with his father.
"He doesn't seem to have a lot of respect for your father," you said slowly, unsure how to navigate this.
"As a businessman, James Delos is ruthless and cutthroat and innovative. As a father?" She shrugged one shoulder as she sipped her drink. "Well let's just say that there's a reason I'm not on the board for Delos."
But she was engaged to someone who was. Her relationship with William was one of those things you just didn't understand, but you weren't about to dig into that. A glance at the watch you wore made you frown.
"The gallery will be closing soon," you said as you looked down at your glass.
"That it will. Here," she said as she put her glass down, pulling something out of her clutch, "this is an invite to a party at the family home. It's very exclusive and invite only. I want you to come."
You held the invite very carefully, as if you didn't even want to get fingerprints on it.
"I don't think that's a good idea," you said carefully. "I'm the head of a rival of Delos Inc."
She grinned as she stood up, the dress flowing around her knees gently.
"No one will mind. And I'm sure we would get a kick out of seeing Logan's face when he sees you there."
She gave you a wink before she turned and walked away. You wanted to laugh but that wink made you picture Logan once more.
It would be good to throw him off balance for once. You looked at the invite and bit back a smile.
You would need to shop for a new dress.
------
You walked into your living room and nearly collapsed on the couch from exhaustion. Who knew how much energy you'd spend talking to investors? You'd left through house early that morning and has barely stopped to breathe.
Marco had called you at one point to tell you that it was all of the prototype Orpheus units that were experiencing the glitch, including his personal unit. He brought his into the lab to try to work it out but promised that it wouldn't delay the launch of the newest units.
You kept yours off, just in case.
While you were lounged around your living room and contemplating what to eat at almost midnight, your cell phone started to ring. With a groan, because late night phone calls were never good, you accepted the call from an unknown number.
"Hello?"
“You sound exhausted.”
You sat up on the couch, going a little lightheaded from the speed.
“Logan?” At his murmured assent, you nearly choked. “Why are you calling me on my personal phone?”
“You put the number on that thumb drive,” he said nonchalantly but you could hear the smirk in his voice.
“Which means you having your assistant call my office was on purpose,” you accused.
“That was a work matter; I thought it would be better to do it the right way. Wouldn’t want people to know that a board member for Delos Inc was calling the head of Y/L/N, would we?”
And yet he could call you now? You didn’t bother mentioning that because you were sure he’d have an excuse at the ready. Instead you cleared your throat.
“Was there a reason for this call or are you just bored?”
You heard him laugh and you found yourself wishing you could see it. Part of you imagined him lounged at his place, sprawled out on the couch like you were. Another wondered if he ever lounged or if he was always wearing a suit with some alcohol in hand.
“I need your email. Not your work email,” he cut in when you started to ask him why, “but a personal email address.”
Because that’s not sketchy.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t think you want me sending you this to your work email.”
Despite yourself, you were grinning.
“Please don’t tell me you’re sending me porn.”
His answering laugh sent a spread of warmth through your stomach.
“No, but I like how you think.” He chuckled again and you could imagine him shaking his head. “I’m sending you an open ended ticket to Westworld. I doubt you want that on Y/L/N servers.”
You were floored. You were flabbergasted. You were… other words that your grandmother would say in a fit of bewilderment.
“I don’t want a ticket to Westworld.”
“One of the other parks then? I tend to prefer Westworld but maybe playing cowboy and lawman isn’t your style,” he said curiously. And then, “Although I’d love to see you in a black hat.”
His voice told you he was picturing you in just the hat. That warmth that had spread through you before turned into a searing heat. It really wasn’t fair that he was able to do that over the phone. He didn’t need that kind of power.
And you weren’t going to tell him. He was cocky enough as it was.
“No, I mean I don’t want to go to one of your parks. No offense, I’m sure they’re great, but I’m the head of Y/L/N. I’m pretty sure my employees would plan a coup if they knew about it.”
“We can be discreet,” he promised. When you didn’t say anything, he sighed playfully. “Just give me your goddamn email. You don’t have to use the ticket, but you’re gonna take it.”
You let out a laugh before you finally gave in and relayed your email address. After he apparently sent you the ticket to Westworld, you thought the call would end. Instead he asked how your day had been.
“Busy,” you said with more than a little suspicion. “Why are you nice to me? My company is your rival.”
He hummed on the other end. There was a bit of rustling on the other line and you couldn’t help but wonder what he was doing.
“Because I’m not my company and I don’t think you are either. Because every interaction I’ve had with you makes me want to spend more time with you. Because that first night I wanted to take you home and not let you out of my bed for days. Take your pick.”
You were having trouble swallowing. Hell, you were having trouble breathing.
“Are you always this honest?”
“Never met something worth lying about,” he said simply.
Of course. This man had more layers than you had imagined possible. And for some reason he was allowing you to peel them all back just to see.
The moment felt too intimate. You cleared your throat and changed the subject.
“I met your sister this past weekend,” you said in what was probably too cheerful of a voice.
“Oh I’m aware,” he responded with a bit of a grimace in his voice. “She told me she invited you to the mansion for one of our father’s pointless parties.”
“Huh,” you said curiously, “and here I thought you’d enjoy the chance to drink and be chummy with the rest of the billionaire boy’s club.”
That earned a bit of a laugh which is what you had been shooting for.
“Well if you’re going to be there, I might just find myself enjoying the evening.”
You thought about the dress you had hanging in your closet, still in the garment bag. The seamstress had tailored it perfectly to the point where it looked like it had been made for you. You weren’t saying that you had picked it with the thought of how Logan would react to seeing you in it, but… maybe you had hoped it’d make him give you that look. The one from the event at the hotel.
The one that had made you want to go home with him.
“I wouldn’t miss it. How often does someone get invited behind enemy lines?” You’d said it sarcastically, but it also had a ring of truth.
“Oh sweetheart, you’re invited behind my lines any day.”
You wanted to tell him to stop flirting with you, but you were worried if you did, he might actually listen to you.
“I almost forgot,” you said in a rush, instead of responding to his last comment. “What was so important? That night I saw you when I was with Fraser, you said we needed to talk soon. What was that about?”
“Oh that?” He laughed a bit. “Would you hate me if I said I just wanted to wind your beau up a bit? Figured I’d at least make him give you a good jealous fuck if nothing else.”
You weren’t sure if you were on fire or doused in cold water. Somehow it felt like it was both at the same time.
“I don’t get you Delos,” you said as your hand clenched at the edge of the cushion you were sitting on. “Sometimes you’re almost nice and then you flip the switch and you become an asshole.”
There was silence on the other end of the line that dragged on just long enough that you thought he might have hung up on you.
“Sounds like you get me just fine,” he said in an even tone, not sounding offended at all.
And maybe that was the thing. Maybe you did get him.
You just weren’t sure what that meant.
“Do you want to get lunch with me? Tomorrow?” There was definitely a smile in his voice as he asked that.
You swallowed down your first, knee-jerk response. Lunch with the enemy? But Logan wasn’t the enemy. Logan was just… Logan.
“I think I’d like that, yeah.”

There was something something pleasant building in the pit of your stomach. Your body ached with it. Your toes curled and your skin felt warm as you tried to twist and turn into the feeling. It felt like you couldn't get close enough, like you were stuck in limbo.
A jolt went through you and you sprang to consciousness. You were in bed, your chest heaving. Between your bent legs was a messy head of dark hair. Once your wakeful state was obvious, Logan looked up from where he had been sucking on your clit.
"I was wondering when you'd wake up," he teased as he slipped his fingers inside of you again, brushing your g-spot as he did.
He grinned at your half-asleep-half-aroused look before he went back to lapping at your clit. You had been close to orgasm before you woke up and he was getting you there again. Your body started to shake as his mouth worked over you, his fingers setting a punishing pace between your legs.
"Logan!" you cried as you came, bowing upwards at the force.
He moaned against you before he pulled back. His face was slick from you and you didn’t care as you tugged him up towards you. The kiss was hungry and desperate, your tongue sliding against his and tasting yourself. One hand shot out to desperately claw towards the table where he kept the condoms.
"Here," he said as he grabbed one from the bed that you hadn't seen, "I was prepared."
Once you got the condom on him, stroking him a few times just because you could, you lined his cock up with your entrance. He didn't do more than give you a brief nod before he slid inside.
Having had a few rounds of energetic sex the night before, he slipped inside without much issue. He still waited until you started to move. And as much as you wanted fast and hard, to chase your first orgasm with another one immediately, he set a slow pace. His thrusts were deliberate, fucking into you hard but going so slow that you could feel every inch of him.
The intimacy of the moment built up until you thought you'd cry if you didn't find your release. The emotions welled in your chest as you clawed at his arms and back, desperate for him to give you what you needed.
"Logan, please," you begged, near to tears as you tried to move with him, "I need more."
He grinned down at you. Then, with a kiss that was more tongue than anything else, he set up a brutal pace with his hips. Every thrust drove you closer and closer until you were screaming his name as you fell apart.
He followed behind you, his own climax just as brutal and animalistic as yours. He collapsed on top of you, not having pulled out just yet.
"Good morning to you too," you mumbled, earning a laugh and a kiss from Logan.
"Great morning," he replied between kisses.
------
“It’s not much,” the consultant said as he pushed over some paperwork. “It looks like he was given access by someone in the office. The firewalls that you have in place are impenetrable without someone laying down a path.”
So someone in your office was working with Marco? The news didn’t set well with you. It felt like every time you gained ground, he was there to pull the rug out from under you.
This man had been a friend. You’d had him over for family dinners. You had sent his mother flowers when his father had passed away since his father had worked at the company at one point as well. He was a friend and someone that you had trusted.
It still didn’t make sense.
You left the meeting with only a little more information than you had started out with. Now you knew that there was a second traitor in your midst, but you didn’t know where to start. It would need to be someone with access to the archives who could have laid down the pathway like the consultant had said, but that was almost anyone in the division.
This would take some careful planning. You couldn’t let anyone know unless you were certain of them.
When you got back to your office, you had a missed call from Logan. You smiled as you started to listen to the voicemail, but the smile slowly faded as his words sank in.
“Hey babe, we’re having a thing up at the house tonight and I really need you there with me. I know that you aren’t on the best terms with my father, but he knows I’m inviting you so he’ll be on his best behavior. Give me a call when you get a moment.” He paused for a moment before he continued. “Talk to you soon.”
You quickly dialed him back, listening to the phone ring through until he picked up.
“Hey,” he said in a tone that clearly said he was grinning.
“Don’t ‘hey’ me right now Logan. What do you mean there’s a thing up at the house? Your house?”
“The mansion,” he explained and then over your groan, I know, but he’s gonna be on his best behavior, I promise.”
“Logan,” you said quietly, your skin feeling tight just at the thought of being there.
“I know, I know, but I need you there,” he pleaded softly. “I can’t face that man without you by my side. Not outside of the office. Not… not when I’m this angry with him.”
You sighed and settled down in your chair a bit more. Logan had told you that morning before you both left that he thought his dad might try to fire another department in the wake of the theft. It would be almost one hundred people that had lost their jobs without any notice.
And once upon a time, you weren’t sure that Logan would have cared. He’d been on the board for so long but he said he didn’t pay much attention to the business aspect. Now he was working with other board members to figure out how Marco had gotten access to their expo warehouses and… and he cared. He cared about Delos.
“Of course I’ll be there,” you said with a bit of a smile, the smile growing as you heard his sigh of relief. “I may not like him, but I like you and your sister. It’ll just be the four of us?”
“As far as I’m aware. You want to meet me there or want me to pick you up?”
You thought about it for a moment before you answered.
“Last time I went there I was alone. I’d rather go with you this time.”
It appeared to be the right answer.
“Good. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way.”
It looked like you were going to be having dinner with the enemy. Well. It was technically your turn.
------
“How many bedrooms are in this place?”
Logan looked at you with a raised eyebrow.
“If you want to sneak away before the second course, I won’t complain,” he said as he slung his arm around your waist. “Hell, pull me away from the table. I don’t even care anymore.”
You rolled your eyes but leaned into his embrace a bit. It was a little difficult in the chairs you were in, but you didn’t mind. James had gotten up to go take a call. Juliet was across from you, her fiance noticeably absent. When you had mentioned it, she sighed and said that he was taking on more responsibilities in the company and couldn’t get away.
“Our father is grooming Billy boy to take over,” Logan said with a distinct sneer in his tone. You knew how he felt about his sister’s fiance.
Honestly, you thought Juliet might feel the same. If there had been any love there, you weren’t sure it existed anymore. And now it seemed more and more like he just wanted to marry the Delos name.
“Your choice in spouse leaves much to be desired sis,” Logan joked affectionately, earning a roll of Juliet’s eyes.
Before she could respond, a low Scottish voice intruded on the moment.
“The same could be said about your choice in… spouse,” James said as he crossed back into the dining room. He went back to his chair, barely looking at the three of you as he sat down.
“Dad,” Juliet began, noticing your immediate discomfort, but Logan cleared his throat and stopped her.
“No, let him finish. You have something to say, dad,” he said with nothing close to affection in his voice, “say it to my face. Like a man, right?”
James looked up, startled. Maybe he had never had Logan talk back to him like this. Or maybe he just wasn’t used to the open hatred on his son’s face. Whatever it was, it seemed enough to cause James Delos to spill his thoughts.
“I don’t like that you’re still with her,” he said with a gesture in your direction, still not addressing you directly. “I can see the appeal physically, she’s definitely attractive and is probably good in bed, but you fuck her; you don’t follow her around like a pussy whipped puppy dog.”
You back had gone rigid during the remarkably insulting spiel. Logan was at your side still as relaxed as before, but it was just a front. His hands were in fists on the table and you could see the muscle in his jaw twitching.
“Apologize.”
That one word was said more like a threat than a request. Juliet shifted a bit in her seat, her eyes darting between her brother and her father. James looked startled once more at his son’s audacity.
“Apologize? In my own house?”
“We can do it on the lawn if that’ll make you feel better, but you’re going to say that you’re sorry for disrespecting Y/N. And you’re going to do it now.”
James shook his head. Or maybe his whole body was shaking.
“You’re high. That’s the only thing that I can think of. You throw away your family for some bitch. She’s our rival, son. She is just using you! Her father would never support something like this–”
“Actually my dad was really supportive of my relationship with Logan,” you cut in, your voice a lot more calm than you actually felt. Logan wrapped his hand around yours and gave it a squeeze.
James saw the touch, his eyes narrowing. He stood up, slamming his hands on the top of the table. It made the silverware and plates rattle with the force of it.
“I will not apologize to your whore!”
Silence fell over the four of you after that outburst. It rang a bit in your ears and you could feel that tension in your chest once more. Just like when James had come to Logan’s that night, you were afraid that it would get physical. When Logan released your hand, you almost launched yourself at him to keep him seated.
All he did was stand up and push his chair back.
“We came here tonight to try to remember that you’re our father and not just this man who has clearly lost his mind. You’re obsessed with the hosts, obsessed with making everyone pay. You fired over a hundred people who called Delos their home.”
Logan tossed his napkin onto the table and looked at Juliet. She gave him a small nod. Then he turned back to their father.
“Juliet and I are going to the board in the morning to call for a vote of no confidence. I have a feeling we’ll get our result. You’ll be out by lunch,” Logan said with a tone of finality that shook even you.
“You can’t throw me out,” he sputtered as he looked between his two children, both of whom were now standing and looking at him with no emotion in their eyes. “I made this company! Delos is mine!”
“Actually, Delos belongs to us,” Juliet said with a shrug as she crossed over to where you had joined Logan’s side. “We bought shares from a few more of the board members so we officially own more than three quarters of the company. Who do you think the board members are going to support?”
It was the final nail in the coffin. Logan ushered you and his sister out of the room while James yelled and started to throw things. You couldn’t help but jump at the sound of what was probably a chair shattering against the wall near where the three of you had just been standing.
“Just keep walking,” Logan said as he tugged you along with him towards the front door.
“Was that the plan the whole time?” You looked between the siblings, each one looking a little guilty. “Do you realize how bad that could have gone?”
“I was going to give him a chance,” Logan said as he opened the door and let the three of you out. “I was going to tell him to reach out to the people he’d fired and offer their jobs back. I was going to give him the chance to make this right. But between his actions and how he was treating you? I just decided to go for the throat.”
Juliet got up onto her toes and pressed a kiss to Logan’s cheek.
“I’m proud of you Logan,” she said with a grin. Then she went to your side and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “He’s grown so much because of you. Thank you.”
You squeezed her hand as she slipped away to her car. The two of you watched her drive off before Logan wrapped his arm around your waist.
“Let’s go home,” he said as he pressed a kiss to your temple.
“Yeah, let’s go home,” you repeated as you let him lead you towards the car.
It didn’t occur to you that you were thinking of his place as home. It never even crossed your mind.
------
It had been years since you had caught yourself chewing on your nails, but it was a nervous habit and you were admittedly nervous. Logan and Juliet hadn’t reached out all day and you wanted to know what happened. Not as their rival, but as their friend. As someone that cared about them.
You were just about to grab your phone and try them again, because surely they had to answer at some point, when you heard keys at the door. After a moment the door opened up and you stood up as Logan walked in. He had already removed his jacket, having forgone a tie because that’s just who he was. You watched as he crossed over to the bar.
“You gonna keep me in suspense all night Logan? What happened today?”
He looked over his shoulder at you as he reached out for one of the bottles.
“The board voted him out in unison. James Delos is no longer the CEO of the company.”
You waited for him to continue. When he didn’t, you sighed and moved over to his shoulder. You tugged the bottle out of his hands and put it back on the bar before you turned him to face you.
“Who did they vote into the position?”
He stared at you for a long, tense moment. The longer he stared, the closer you were to screaming. Finally you saw his lips twitch. Just a barely there movement before he was grinning so wide that you thought he might never stop.
“Juliet nominated me and they all voted to confirm. The company is mine.”
You barely had a second to process that before you were picked up and spun around, your flats flying off in different directions by the force. You stumbled a bit when he set you down, but you still didn’t have a moment to react before his mouth was on yours.
“Logan,” you mumbled between kisses, caught between chiding and giggling, “Logan, we need to talk about–”
“No we don’t,” he said as he started to unbutton his shirt. “I know what you want to talk about and it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t fucking care if our companies are rivals. I don’t care if our fathers want to have a brawl in the fucking middle of the road.”
He cupped your face, forcing your eyes to his. As if you could look anywhere else. His dark eyes moved over your face intently. There was so much emotion in his eyes that you could barely breathe. He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on your lips before he rested his forehead against yours.
“I don’t care about any of that. Don’t make this about our last names or any of that shit that we don’t actually care about. Because I only care about you.”
You knew that that wasn’t true. He also cared about his company.
But he was right. Here, together? The two of you were just Y/N and Logan. It had been that way from the beginning, even if it took you awhile to figure it out. And you doubted the companies would burn to the ground if the two of you were together.
“Well let me congratulate you on the position,” you said as you pulled your shirt over your head, dropping it to the ground followed by your bra.
“I can think of a few positions I’d rather be in,” he said with a laugh, turning you around and slapping your ass. “Get to the bedroom before I fuck you on the floor.”
You hesitated for only a moment before you took off towards the bedroom, Logan behind you. When he tackled you to the bed, both of you were laughing.
There was nothing as important in that moment.
------
The news of the change in leadership came as a surprise to a lot of people. Not the least was one ex-Y/L/N employee who sat in a dark laboratory with the news playing on his tablet.
Marco frowned as he watched a muted speech made by Logan Delos. He talked about the future of his company and the direction they planned on going. There was a statement of approval and support from Y/N Y/L/N regarding the change in leadership.
“We believe our companies will be able to have a closer relationship going forward.”
That was putting it mildly.
Marco slammed the tablet onto the table, not caring that the screen cracked. This put a dent in his plan. He looked behind him at the machines that were working endlessly. Things were slower in his lab, but everything was almost finished.
He looked back at the tablet. It had frozen on a split screen as the reporter talked about a suspected relationship between the heads of the rival companies. A photo of Logan in front of Delos and a photo of Y/N at an event were side by side, distorted by the crack that seemed to separate the two of them.
It wouldn’t be easy, but he was going to have to change his plans. He looked back at the machine that was still working. Things were only half done, but it would have to do.
It was time.

“Miss Y/L/N, it’s your father,” Amelia said with a look to your desk phone which was blinking with a call on hold.
“Thanks Amelia,” you said with a tight smile. When the door shut, you huffed out a breath and picked up the receiver. “Hey dad.”
“Hey cricket,” he greeted affectionately, but you could hear that undercurrent that told you a lecture was coming. “We haven’t talked in a while. Thought I’d try you at the office since your personal phone seems to not be working.”
Oh it was working. You’d just been ignoring his calls.
“Bad reception,” you lied.
“Mhm. Now Y/N, I’m sure your sister has given you the third degree already about this snafu with Delos, but I think I need to remind you that we don’t mix with that company well. Oil and water, remember?”
“No, dad, I don’t remember. Because every time I’ve asked about Delos, you tell me you’ll explain and then you never do.” Your eyes darted to the door and then back to your desk. “Why do you hate them so much?”
You heard your dad sigh over the line. You could picture him in the home office, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his glasses dangling from his fingers.
“Before James Delos joined forces with the other companies to create the parks, the ones that had the technology for the hosts, him and I were actually kind of partners. I’d invested in his company at one point actually. And once Delos was about to break onto the scene with Westworld and their other parks, he found a loophole to write me out.”
To say that you were surprised was an understatement.
“That’s why we stuck to the east coast, isn’t it? To stay away from Delos.”
“There was enough business for the both of us. While Delos Inc and their subsidiaries stuck to the parks and hosts, we worked on VR and communication. We work with the government and Delos, well, they pander to the sick and depraved.”
That sounded about right. You leaned back in your chair and shook your head.
“So what happened to your investment? Loophole or not, if you have proof of transaction–”
“He paid it all back, plus interest,” he said before you could explore that idea. “He knew better than to leave any connection to Y/L/N, knew that we could have claim to some of the ideas that came through during the time I invested. Plus we each have non-compete clauses with our companies so it’d get too messy if we tried to pursue it.”
Yeah, that made sense. And it did paint a picture as to why your dad didn’t like James Delos, but there was still something you didn’t understand.
“We’re doing fine without Delos,” you said slowly, “so why are you so pissed that he cut you out? You’re not power hungry and we’re definitely not wanting for money.”
That made your dad laugh.
“It wasn’t for the money or the prestige, we don’t need that. It was for the sake of the science. With our resources combined, think about what we could have accomplished. Those little projects of yours would have been launched ten times over by now.”
You bristled a bit by him calling them little projects, but you knew he didn’t mean it like that. Probably.
The two of you talked for a while longer, about your mom’s garden and how your dad had accidentally stepped on one of her flowers so she was giving him the cold shoulder. You even talked about Jo and how she was expanding the European faction of the company quite well.
When you hung up, you realized that you hadn’t talked about Delos for the rest of the conversation. He would think that it was dropped and maybe that was for the best. You didn’t need to tell your dad that Logan Delos had given you numbers for investors. Or that you’d called them and the moment you gave Logan’s name, they all pledged way more than you actually needed.
Since you had denied Marco’s unorthodox request to steal from Delos Inc, you’d need another way to make up the difference. This was your best bet.
Marco had tried to persuade you to see things from his point of view but you didn’t need to. The moment he had said the words, you knew it wasn’t what you should do. If somehow they never figured it out, you’d always know that your company was tainted. That wasn’t what you meant by any means necessary. You weren’t willing to sell your soul just yet.
It meant working harder, but you weren’t afraid to roll your sleeves up. You had the money, thanks to the investors from Logan. Now you just needed the science to work in your favor.
A glance at the clock on your desk had you wincing. It was getting late. And at this rate, you’d miss your date with Fraser. Your sister had finally talked you into sending him a text and both of you had this evening free.
One date; most likely you’d be able to make up an excuse after thirty minutes and go home. That would keep Jo off your back for a while at least.
With that in mind, you packed up your office for the evening.
------
You weren’t actually sure what Fraser looked like, but when you got to the restaurant, he recognized you almost immediately. He waved you over, calling your name to get your attention.
He was attractive. He had a look about him that said he put effort into his looks but not that he was vain. When you got to him, he offered his hand for a handshake.
“Jo had pictures of you in her office,” he explained when you asked how he recognized you. “I hope traffic wasn’t too bad.”
The two of you made small talk while you both looked over your menus. You noticed that he was looking at you over the top of his menu about as much as you looked at him. He was attractive, personable. He didn’t immediately start talking about his work but actually talked about current events with you.
“Jo said you were a scientist,” he said conversationally after you both had your food delivered. “That had to take a lot of time in school.”
“I’m a bio-engineer,” you explained with a shrug as you picked up your fork. “It gives me the best of both worlds; working with technology and the human system.”
He seemed enraptured as he asked questions about your work. You kept it light, not focusing on any project in particular. Every time you thought he’d get bored, he’d ask another question.
“Surely you don’t want to hear about all of this,” you said with a laugh. “It’s pretty boring to people who don’t work with it every day.”
“Hey, I work in finance. Just hearing about this stuff is the closest to cool I’ll ever get,” he joked. Then with a grin, “I actually am a little scientific myself.”
“Oh really?”
“Hell yeah. I can recite the whole periodic table of elements in order,” he said with a grin, leaning forward over the table. “I taught myself in college and oddly enough, it wasn’t the type of skill that made the girls line up outside of my dorm room.”
You snorted out a laugh, picking up your glass and taking a sip.
“Oh I need to see this. Come on, impress me.”
It took him a while because both of you started to laugh, plus some of the names were difficult to say after three drinks, but he made it to the end. You gave him a round of applause, laughing and toasting his ability.
“And that didn’t make you the stud of campus? College girls are weak,” you joked as you sipped your drink.
The meal hadn’t been that bad. You’d actually missed the notification on your phone that you had programmed as a reason to leave, but you didn’t mind. You’d actually enjoyed yourself.
“I was starting to wonder if maybe you’d changed your mind about this,” Fraser admitted as he motioned between the two of you. “It’d been so long since Jo had said you’d be interested in meeting up. I figured you decided to just, what’s the term, ghost me?”
You laughed a bit and ducked your head. You didn’t want to admit that you had been thinking about that. Instead you told him something else that wasn’t exactly a lie.
“With my work schedule, sometimes I forget to have a life outside of it. I’ve been on the west coast for a few months and honestly, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t work in my office.”
You saw a smile start to spread over Fraser’s lips. He opened his mouth to respond but you heard your name from the side. You glanced over and found yourself staring at none other than Logan Delos.
“Y/N,” he greeted with a grin as he approached the table, completely ignoring Fraser. “Fancy seeing you here twice in one week.”
Your eye twitched as you tried not to react to that. You gave him a tense smile, your eyes darting over to Fraser who looked politely curious at the interruption.
It was the first time Logan had said your name. At the meeting with William, he had called you Miss Y/L/N with such derision that you were surprised William hadn’t noticed, but he hadn’t called you by your first name. Hearing it made a shiver go up your spine.
“Logan,” you said through gritted teeth, “pleasure seeing you. If you don’t mind…?”
Logan looked between the two of you and you knew the moment he realized it was a date. His mouth was turned down for a brief second and then he was grinning so wide that you were sure he was going to have cramps in his cheeks.
“I don’t mean to be rude. I’m Logan Delos; I’m good friends with Y/N here.”
You were about to discredit that, but Fraser had already held his hand out for a handshake.
“Fraser Coomes,” he introduced with a quick look at you.
“Fraser,” Logan said, eyes wide. He looked at you and repeated the name. “Fraser? Really?”
“Okay Logan, I think you were just leaving?”
His hand went to the extra chair at your table and you had a split second to appreciate the fact that you’d probably be thrown out if you threw your drink in his face right then. He must have noticed the impending violence on your face because he let out a laugh and moved to stand beside you instead.
“I’ll let you two kids continue with your dinner. Just wanted to stop and say hello,” he said as he leaned down until he could whisper in your ear. “We need to talk. Soon.”
His words were more serious than he had been so you gave him a quick nod before you purposefully turned your attention back to Fraser. Recognizing that your attention was gone, Logan shook his head and drained the last of his drink before he turned to leave.
You weren’t sure how you’d get in touch with Logan since you apparently needed to talk to him, but you were sure he’d find you.
Fraser had a strange look on his face as he watched Logan saunter off. Then he turned back to you with a slight upturn to his lips.
“I thought you said you didn’t know anyone out here,” he said conversationally.
“I don’t, not socially. I know Logan through our companies.”
Fraser didn’t look convinced.
“Delos Inc and Y/L/N are rivals; that interaction looked a little more personal than that.”
How did you explain your relationship—if that was even the word—with Logan Delos? But you also didn’t need to explain anything to Fraser about how you knew Logan. Something told you that his curiosity wasn’t coming from a place of polite interest.
Instead of giving in to his game, you reached into your bag and swiped your thumb over the screen of your phone. You pulled it out and angled it just enough that he’d see that it was your office calling.
“I have to take this,” you said as you put the phone to your ear. You pretended to talk to the machine on the other side for a moment before you gave Fraser an apologetic smile. “Something’s come up at work and I need to get back to the office. I’m sorry.”
He shook his head as you tried to pull out your wallet.
“This is on me,” he said as he gestured to your empty plates. “I’m sorry you’ve got to go. I’ve been having fun.”
Until Logan showed up, your mind supplied.
“Me too. We’ll have to do it again soon.”
After you gave him a quick hug, you turned on your heel and headed out of the restaurant. It honestly wouldn’t surprise you if you never heard from him again.
------
The light of your Orpheus device was glowing. You went over to where it was stationed and swiped a finger over the display, but it didn’t show that anyone had tried to contact you.
“Orpheus off,” you commanded but the light didn’t recede. “Voice accept?” Nothing.
You lifted the device and hit the button to turn it off manually. The light faded and you sighed as you put it back down. There must be some glitch that the beta testing hadn’t caught. You’d fill out a report and send it in to Marco to be looked at.
That in mind, you went across your living room and towards the stairs so you could go take a shower.
Out of sight of the device, you didn’t notice the light start to glow on the device once more.

Choose Your Fate - Logan Delos - 10
Well as you know, it was voted for Logan to join you on your trip back home.
Also I’m trying to judge how many parts are left but honestly I don’t know. Maybe five? I need to do a general outline and I’ll give you a better idea of the plan.

*****
With everything that was going on with the company and the news of a breach at Westworld—although that was merely whispered among the elite, not publicized—you’d somehow forgotten that you had family to answer to. The bubble that had encased you and Logan for the almost two weeks you had been staying with him hadn’t been burst by James Delos’s arrival, but it had gotten smaller.
Now Logan spent his days at Delos dealing with angry and worried investors. As much as he complained about having to do it, you knew that he enjoyed it. Logan was made to seduce and since he was practicing monogamy for you, he was left to seduce investors for his company.
The bubble officially burst for you on day fifteen of your little getaway. Your phone started to ring and you were startled to see your dad’s picture on the screen.
You hadn’t heard from him since it had all happened. How had you let it escape you?
“Hey dad,” you said as you twirled around in your desk chair so that you weren’t looking at your computer any more, “how’ve you been?”
“Oh let’s not start with that Y/N,” he said in that gruff way of his that told you that you were in big trouble. “Let’s start with the fact that it’s been two weeks since there was apparently a breach against you and our company and I haven’t heard from you.”
“I’ve been handling it,” you defended because you had.
“It’s not about handling it. If I thought you weren’t capable, I never would have let you take the position. I’m talking about the fact that my daughter has been terrorized by one of her employees and she didn’t reach out.”
You felt immediately chastised. Besides talking to Jo, which she always initiated, you hadn’t reached out to anyone.
That bubble had kept everything inside as well as the rest of the world out.
“I’m sorry dad. I should have called,” you admitted quietly.
“Well you’re going to do more than call. I want you to fly back out here. I know,” he said when you started to interrupt, “that you have a lot of work, but there’s an office out here that is just as capable as the west coast office. There’s nothing you can do out there that can’t be done from here.”
Except for Logan, but you weren’t going to mention that. Instead you listened to your dad make the plans, telling you what you were going to do rather than asking.
By the end of the call, you were promising to book a ticket back home as soon as you could. And as you put your phone back on your desk, your hand already bringing up your usual airline website to purchase the ticket, you found yourself hesitating.
You wanted to talk to Logan first.
------
“So he says jump and you say how high?”
You shot Logan an unimpressed look as you moved around your bedroom, plucking clothes out to fold into your suitcase. He pulled a pair of red panties out and swung them around his finger a few times, grinning at you when you rolled your eyes.
“He’s my dad. I know you don’t have a good relationship with yours, but in my family, it’s different.” You put some pajamas into the suitcase and looked back up at Logan with your hand out. “Give me back my underwear Logan.”
“I think I’ll keep them to remember you by,” he said as he tucked them into his front pocket.
“I’m going back to the east coast, not war. And it won’t be long.”
You weren’t sure how long it would be though. You had bought a one way ticket. It would take some convincing to your parents and Jo to let you come back out here unless things with Marco were settled soon. And since he was still missing, no leads to his whereabouts at all, you weren’t sure when that would be.
“Why don’t I come with you?”
You looked up from where you had been twisting a t-shirt in your fingers. Logan was propped up on his elbows in the middle of your bed looking for all the world like he didn’t have a care, but there was something in his eyes as he stared at you.
“Come with me… to my parents’ place?”
Logan shrugged and sat up more, moving to the end of the bed so that he could grab your hips. He pulled you towards him as he looked up at your face.
“I’d get a hotel room, of course. There’s Delos investors out there that I could wine and dine while you’re dealing with your parental units. My dad has been setting in on me about making an effort with the company so it’d serve two purposes.”
You bit your lip as you looked at your half packed suitcase. There was something desperate in your chest that was clawing to get out, something you didn’t want to give a name to. It was screaming for you to say yes, to let him come with you. You didn’t want to let him out of your sight longer than you had to if possible.
“Logan,” you began quietly, uncertain.
“It doesn’t have to be about us,” he said softly as his hands moved comfortingly over your hips as if he knew what you were thinking. “It can just be both of us doing what we need to for our companies and then we can spend time together in between. If you don’t want me to, that’s not gonna change what I want with you.”
You knew it wouldn’t. You put your hands on his shoulders, one slipping up to card through his hair.
“I don’t know how long it’ll be,” you said as you tugged on his hair a bit, grinning as his eyes fluttered shut at the pull. “Do you think your dad can let you go without an end date?”
His eyes opened and he grinned.
“I’ll convince him,” he promised as he tugged you onto his lap. “You might want to cancel that plane ticket; you’ll be flying with me on the Delos jet.”
This man was going to be the death of you.
------
You’d never flown on a private jet before. Logan had grinned as he had tugged you onto his lap, rolling his hips up against you.
So yeah, you joined the mile high club on a private jet. You were officially that person. You had no complaints.
------
“Hey mom,” you said as your mom wrapped her arms around you for a hug. “I told you I was fine. Why are you crying?”
“Because I haven’t seen you in so long,” she said as she wiped under her eyes. “I knew that when you took the position, you’d be busy, but I didn’t think it would mean my own daughter would become a stranger to me.”
You squeezed her hand apologetically and let her lead you into the house fully. Jo was sitting on the couch with one of the cats curled up on her lap.
“Hey sis,” you said as you went over to give her a hug, scratching the cat’s chin for a second before you pulled back. “Is dad here?”
“He’s in his office,” Jo said with a pointed look. “He got some news while you were in the air. Were you going to tell us that Marco is the one that stole from Delos?”
You winced as you sat up. Your mom shook her head and left the room, effectively washing her hands of the situation. She was a lawyer and could fight it out with the best of them, but she stayed out of the family business as much as possible. She said it was for your dad and his two daughters; she was just there to make sure no one sued him.
“I would have said something once I talked to dad,” you admitted with a shrug. “It’s a long story and I didn’t want to have the conversation over the phone.”
“Well you’re here now,” your dad said as he came into the room. He kissed your temple before he ushered you to sit next to your sister. “Start at the beginning, because I think I’m missing some of the pieces.”
Jo gave you a stern look and you knew what she was thinking. You’d probably have to tell your dad about you and Logan now. But you’d save that for last. He was going to have enough to deal with first.
You told him how everything had happened as best you could. Marco had hacked into your Orpheus unit to steal from you, ended up stealing a ticket you had been given “by someone”, had gone to Westworld and stole their information. You explained that apparently all of the research he had been doing to look into what was wrong with your unit was actually just him finding a way to hack in and be able to use it to download information from your devices.
“Why you? Because you’re the CEO?”
“Maybe,” you said with a shrug. “The cops found a collage of pictures of me hidden at his place so they think he was stalking me or obsessed with me. I don’t know what to think. He started to do this all before he quit the company, before we figured him out, so it’s not like he’s targeting me for revenge. I don’t know why he would want to steal from Delos.”
“What can he do with the information?” Your sister looked between the two of you. “No one is going to touch it, right? Unless he can find someone on the black market with the know how on how to utilize the information?”
Your dad leaned back in his chair and shrugged a shoulder.
“The problem is that Marco Barrier is a very intelligent man. If he can find some backing, he could do some real damage with what he got from Delos. And who knows how much he took from Y/L/N before he left,” he said with a look to you.
“Unclear at this point. Anything he might have taken wouldn’t have thrown up any red flags because we trusted him. And we didn’t find any research he might have done before he left, so your guess is as good as ours.”
Your sister heaved out a sigh, shaking her head as she thought of the possibilities.
“Well if we hear anything about black market hosts or an underground Westworld, we’ll know who is behind it,” she said with another shake of her head.
It was the most out there idea she could come up with but you had a sudden sense that she might not be too far off. You couldn’t put it into words, but you had a feeling that Marco’s obsession with the hosts was going to be the catalyst.
------
“I feel like I shouldn’t want to fuck you in your childhood bedroom as much as I do,” Logan joked as he tugged you into his hotel room, pressing you against the door and leaning in for a kiss. “I know this was my idea, but I really miss having you at my fingertips whenever I wanted.”
You kissed him back and pushed away from the door. He followed because what else would he do, but when you flopped on the bed, it wasn’t sexual. He must have noticed the change in you because he sat down beside you and touched your arm.
“What happened?”
“I told dad everything,” you said with a sigh. And then with a pointed look at Logan, “Well not everything, but everything about Marco. I just feel like a complete failure.”
Logan moved so that he was on his side facing you, his head propped up on his hand.
“How are you a failure?”
“I didn’t see it,” you said quietly as you stared up at the ceiling. “I didn’t see that Marco was unhinged and planning something. I didn’t see that he was dangerous or a threat. I worked closely with him and I… I didn’t see it.”
Logan was quiet and you turned your head until you could meet his eyes. He gave you a comforting smile and shook his head.
“That doesn’t make you a failure; it means he was good at hiding who he really is. And yeah, this whole thing is a clusterfuck of epic proportions, but it isn’t your fault. You didn’t make him steal from you and violate your trust and privacy. You didn’t make him steal from Delos. You didn’t make him do anything.”
You sighed and closed your eyes. You knew he was right, but it was hard to convince yourself.
“Let me take your mind off of it,” he said lowly as his hand pressed against your stomach, slowly dragging the fabric of your shirt up and out of the way so he could slip his hand inside, pressed against your ribs.
You smiled and turned to face him.
“Please,” you said, the word being swallowed up by his lips.
It’s not like you were going to figure it out tonight anyways.
------
You slipped through the front door quietly, wincing as the hinges creaked as you shut it. It had been a long time since you’d had to sneak back in here and you’d forgotten how loud the door was.
“Your mother always wanted me to oil the hinges,” your dad said, scaring you half to death. He looked over at you and then jerked his head towards the kitchen. “Follow me.”
With your pride left on the porch—getting caught after a walk of shame in your twenties was somehow worse than when you were a teen—you followed your dad into the kitchen. He had a tub of ice cream on the counter. He pulled out two spoons and handed one to you.
“You still like rocky road, right?”
You accepted the spoon and settled down onto a stool on the other side of the counter. The two of you snacked on the ice cream in silence for a few minutes. You were starting to think that this was it, this was all he wanted. But you were wrong.
“How long have you been seeing that Delos boy? Since the restaurant or before?”
Your heart was thundering in your chest. It hadn’t come up before and you weren’t ready to have this conversation now. Not while you could still smell Logan’s aftershave on your skin and your clothes were wrinkled from being left on the floor for hours.
“Dad–”
“I know you’re an adult,” he said as he put his spoon down on the counter, meeting your eyes, “but you’re my daughter, my baby girl. And he’s got a reputation.”
You nodded because you knew that reputation well. Hadn’t you judged him based on that reputation when you first realized who he was? Hadn’t you thought that he was only interested in you because you were the one that got away?
“There’s so much more to him than what the rumors tell,” you said softly, your hands clenched together in your lap. “He’s funny and intelligent and, well, he’s kind to me. He’s never made me feel like I was just one in a long line of women. He respects me and he treats me well.”
Your dad nodded, his eyes getting a little pained when you had said he treated you well. You knew he had immediately tried not to think of how you were being treated by Logan and you felt blood rush to your face. This was worse than the sex ed talk you got in middle school.
“So if we ignore the reputation, which I’m willing to do despite how grumpy I sound right now,” your dad said with a bit of a grin, growing more serious with his next words, “he’s still a Delos. He’s the heir to the Delos fortune, most likely gonna take over for James when he steps down or dies. That family cares more about money and power than people; how sure are you that he’s not with you because–”
“He didn’t know who I was when we first met,” you admitted quickly, shaking your head, “and I didn’t know he was a Delos. Both of us were attracted to each other, but when I found out who he was, I tried to step back. He just kept being there, telling me that he didn’t care. You don’t understand his relationship with his dad. Even if he takes over Delos, he’s not James any more than I am you.”
Your dad shook his head as he looked at his hands.
“You’re young, Y/N, young and naive. It was one of the reasons I was hesitant to give you the position, but I thought you had it in you. You can’t just stop being who you are. He’s a Delos, you’re a Y/L/N.”
“This isn’t the Hatfields and McCoys dad,” you said, your temper rising a bit. “This is two consenting adults who communicate and respect each other. And I trust Logan. He doesn’t want anything to do with Y/L/N just the way I want nothing to do with Delos. We’re in this for each other, not our last names.”
Your dad stared at you for a long, intense moment. Finally he sighed and picked his spoon back up, digging back in to the ice cream.
“Hatfields and McCoys,” he scoffed with a shake of his head. There was a bit of a grin on his lips as he swallowed the ice cream down. “More like the Montagues and the Capulets.”
You shook your head with a grin, picking up your own spoon.
“Hopefully with a better ending,” you teased as you took a bite of the ice cream.
Once the carton was finished off, your spoons in the dishwasher and the evidence disposed of, your dad stopped you on the way to the stairs.
“Invite him over for dinner,” he said with a nod. “It’s time I meet the boy—the man.”
You grinned as you grabbed your bag, already mentally composing a text to Logan to let him know about the turn in events. You barely got up the stairs before your dad called your attention once more.
“And Y/N? Maybe try to remember that we own a lot of the hotels in the city and the workers have known you most of your life. They’ll definitely recognize you when you’re being pulled into the hotel room of one of our rivals.”
It was a good thing you’d left your pride on the porch. Otherwise that would have been really embarrassing.

Choose Your Fate - Logan Delos - 6
So by one vote, the winner was that the reader’s father sees them. For those that wanted James Delos to see them, don’t worry. That will happen in the next part.

You didn’t spend too much time picking out your clothes because that wasn’t the type of girl you were, but you did put thought into it. Nothing too flashy; this was lunch on a Saturday, after all, but nothing that would be at home in a church.
The dress you picked was modest but accented all the right parts of your body. And the look Logan gave you when you walked up to the table he had reserved told you that you’d picked correctly.
“You look good,” he said as he looked you over from head to toe before he got up to pull out your chair. As he pushed it under you, he dipped his head down to your ear. “Good enough to eat.”
Heat filled your cheeks and you shook your head to try to dispel the light fog that had settled over you. You knew that he’d flirt with you, but you hadn’t expected it within the first few moments of you being there.
“What’s good here? Don’t say it,” you said without looking up from your menu, seeing him open his mouth from your periphery, “I meant the food.”
“You’re no fun,” he teased as he picked up his own menu.
It was the first time the two of you had met without something being in the way. Your identities, your companies, Fraser; there had been so many layers to your interactions without you even noticing. And now you were on equal footing with one another.
Or as equal as it got when Logan could light you on fire with one look. A raised eyebrow and half a smirk and you were trying to remind yourself of all the reasons you had stood him up in the first place.
“It’s been a while, but I think people talk more on dates,” he said as he braced his forearms on the table, leaning towards you.
“This isn’t a date,” you said quickly, shaking your head.
He just continued to grin.
“Let’s see. Guy asks girl out for a meal, girl dresses like that,” he said with a gesture to where you were sitting. “Sure as hell sounds like a date to me.”
“I think most dates are dinner, not lunch,” you replied as you desperately tried to cling to your own version of events.
“Yeah, but if I invited you for dinner, I’d be having you for dessert. And something tells me that you’re more than a one and done, so I’ve got to try a new method.”
Did someone turn the heat up in the restaurant? You looked around but no one else seemed to be affected the way you were.
You needed to change the subject before you lost all of your resolve so you went with the first thing that came to mind.
“Why did you interrupt me with Fraser? You said you wanted to wind him up, but why?”
Logan didn’t look at all sorry as he grinned over at you.
“It was obviously a first date and it was obviously a set up. I figured some good old fashioned jealousy would work in my favor one way or another.”
You wanted to laugh, but he wasn’t completely wrong. It had ended in Fraser making a remark that was the reason you ended the date. Definitely worked in Logan’s favor since you were here with him now.
But that did bring up something else…
“How would it work in your favor if I was flattered by his jealousy? Did you want me to go home with him?”
“I wanted you to go home with me,” he said as simply as if he was reciting his own name, “but if you went home with him, then when I finally did get you in bed, you’d never want to go back to him. But like I said, I’m trying a new method.”
This time you did laugh as a way to cover the heat that was spreading over you from that.
“A new method like taking a girl on a date instead of, I don’t know, trying to take home an escort within five minutes of meeting her at a work function?”
It was a little jab, but you were mostly using it to change the subject. Maybe you could ignore whether or not this was a date and what that meant  if you just kept him focused on other things.
He laughed and leaned back in the chair, shaking his head as he looked away for a moment.
“There was something about you,” he said as he made a point to look you up and down again, “a sex appeal that most women don’t have. It’s subtle but you wield it like a weapon. Even when you’re in business mode, there’s something that just draws me to you. So yeah, whether or not I was going to have to pay you at the end of the night, I wanted to take you home.”
He had said that he had never found something worth lying about which meant if you were to believe him about that, he was telling the truth. Or at the very least the truth of how he felt.
“So you thought I was a hooker?”
He laughed again, ducking his head.
“Up until about halfway through our short conversation. And the moment I realized you weren’t? That just made me want you all the more,” he admitted as he looked up and met your eyes once again.
God. If he kept that up, you’d wave down the waitress and get the check right now. But part of you, a large part really, was curious as to this new method. As much as you’d been able to discover from certain gossip sites and one late night Google-fest that you kind of regretted, Logan wasn’t the type to date. He’d been seen with a girl or a guy once or twice, but never more than that.
Was this going to be more? Or once he got you in bed, would he lose interest?
You didn’t have much time to think about it. While Logan continued to stare at you in a way that reminded you a little bit of a starving man looking at a ribeye, you heard a familiar voice off to the side. A very familiar voice.
“Y/N?”
You turned in surprise to see your dad walking up to the table. His eyes darted between you and Logan, slowly narrowing as he bent down to kiss your cheek.
“Hey dad,” you said in a voice that was definitely reminiscent of being caught eating sweets before dinner as a kid. “Uh, this is Lo–”
“I know who this is,” he said to you pointedly before he turned to offer his hand to Logan. “Mr Delos. Pleasure to see you again.”
“Mr Y/L/N,” Logan greeted as he shook your dad’s hand.
You were jealous of his ease and lack of tension. You wanted nothing more than to crawl under the table right then, and not in a sexy way.
“I didn’t realize you were in town,” you said in a small voice that you weren’t very proud of.
“I was going to call you later. I’m just meeting the Bancrofts for lunch,” he said as he looked around as if trying to spot the old family friends. Maybe he wanted to make sure no one else had seen you and Logan. “I should join them, but I’ll give you a call soon.”
The look he gave you said that you were definitely in for it. He went around the table without a second glance to Logan. The moment he was out of sight, your shoulders sagged and you reached up to rub your forehead.
“That’s going to be a fun talk,” you complained with your eyes closed. “I bet he’s going to have a lot to say about me being on a date with you.”
“I thought you said this wasn’t a date,” Logan teased with a grin. Even when you glared at him, his grin never faltered.
“We could be discussing dust mites and it wouldn’t matter; I’m in public at a table in a restaurant with the heir to Delos Inc. That’s all that he’ll see and that’s all that matters.”
He tilted his head a bit as he looked you over.
“Why does it matter so much? We’re both consenting adults and nothing has happened yet,” he said, adding the ‘yet’ in a tone that made you shiver a bit. “I’m not the heir to Delos, not really. It hasn’t been decided who will take over if my father ever kicks the bucket.”
Because he’d have to die before he gave up the mantle, unlike your own father. Your dad had stepped down readily; he just hadn’t realized which daughter he was going to be handing the company over to at first.
“You have the luxury of only being tied to the company by your name,” you said quietly, making sure to keep from sounding accusatory. “I’m the CEO, I’m the face of Y/L/N. My name, my life is tied to this company. I don’t get the chance to do whatever I want, not anymore. I have to think about how things will affect the company in the long run.”
Logan shook his head and leaned forward, bracing his arms against the table as he met your gaze head on.
“It’s your company now. You have the choice to say fuck it and do whatever the hell you want. The fact that you think you don’t have a choice is just because that’s what he wants you to believe,” he said as he pointed in the direction your dad had disappeared.
The thing was that you could see it from his point of view. No one was stopping you from cavorting with Logan, just like no one could stop you from reaching out to Delos for investment support. You could do whatever the hell you wanted. Technically.
But this wasn’t what you wanted. Not the lunch, because you had definitely wanted that. But you’d never wanted to be the CEO.
“My sister was supposed to take over the company when my dad retired,” you said softly, your eyes on your hands instead of his face as you told this story. “It wasn’t released yet, but everyone knew. Joanna Y/L/N was going to be the CEO and I was going to stay on the science side. We had planned it since we were kids.”
You had to take a sip of your drink as you tried to think of how to tell the rest of this. You couldn’t think of anyone you’d actually told the story to before but it felt right for Logan to know.
“My mom, dad, and sister were all coming back from some event one night. Jo was in the passenger seat, mom in the back, dad was driving. It was late, definitely too late for them to be on the road. Dad said he didn’t see the other car until…”
You took a steadying breath and chanced a glance up at Logan. He was listening intently, his face a mask of calm even though you knew he had to know how important this was.
“Dad walked away with just a few scratches. Mom was a little banged up, lost a lot of blood, but she pulled through with minimal lasting damage.” You dropped his gaze for a moment before you continued. “Jo wasn’t so lucky. Her spinal cord was damaged badly enough that she’s paralyzed from the waist down.”
Logan let out a breath in shock at that. It was well known that Jo had pulled out of the public eye at some point, and there had been rumors as to why you took over instead of her, but the whole story was never told to anyone. Even close family friends just thought that Jo wasn’t ready to run the company.
“She didn’t think a woman in a wheelchair would make a good face for the company,” you said with a shrug as you looked down at where your hand was fisted on the table.
His hand came into your view as it covered your hand. You jerked a bit as if you wanted to pull away, but you kept your hand still under his.
“So it fell to you.”
You blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall.
“So it fell to me. She travels between the east coast and Europe, getting investors for the company, but she does a lot of it over video conferencing. No one knows about her accident,” you said pointedly, feeling a little apprehension starting to well up in your chest.
“I’m not going to tell anyone,” he promised as he squeezed your hand. “It does help me understand you a little more though. I know why you’re so uptight about me being a Delos. You never wanted to be in charge and now you have all this extra pressure on you. Doesn’t help that you have me pushing you too.”
That was one thing you didn’t want him thinking. You turned your hand over so that you could link your fingers with his. He seemed surprised, but he simply held on tight.
“I don’t consider you to be one of my pressures. This thing between you and me? It’s the first time I’ve felt… in control of my own life.”
You’d lost that sense of control a long time ago, maybe even before their accident. You loved the science, the nitty gritty details of the projects you were building. And the way that you responded to the pressure was to throw yourself behind your projects. Or one in particular.
Janus was for your sister; you wanted to give her something so that she could have some parts of her old life back. The sims you had created weren’t the same as being there in person, more like a hologram that wasn’t reliant on a camera to be created, but if they wouldn’t hold, you weren’t sure what you could do.
Hosts, you heard a voice remind you. Hosts were still an option. Surely you could create something similar, if maybe not as good as what Delos had.
Logan squeezed your hand once more until you looked up to meet his eyes.
“If you don’t want to meet in public anymore, if you’d rather keep things between us so that you don’t have to deal with the blowback,” he offered with a bit of a smirk on his lips, “I don’t mind being your dirty secret.”
You gave a tight smile as you pulled your hand back, feeling a sudden wave of tension that settled between your shoulders. As much as you enjoyed being with Logan, you knew that this wasn’t going to last. This thing between the two of you, while great, had a shelf life. He’d get tired of you once he got his fix.
“What happened between us holding hands and you looking like you were about to walk out of here without looking back?”
You met Logan’s eyes at his question. Those dark eyes were narrowed at you as he leaned back, lifting his drink to take a sip.
Honesty. It was something that Logan believed in, something that he traded in. You knew that if you wanted to keep his respect, you needed to offer a little honesty.
“I would have gone home with you that first night because you were a stranger and I had just upended my whole life to come out here for the company, and yeah, you’re ridiculously sexy and I wanted it.” You let out a little laugh at the pleasure in Logan’s eyes at that, but you weren’t done yet. “I would have gone home with you that night if you were anyone but Logan Delos, but the fact is you are. And I know that you’re interested in me now, but if I went home with you right now, could you honestly tell me you wouldn’t lose interest in me by tomorrow?”
He thought about it. You’d give him that. He didn’t have an off the cuff answer, some silky smooth words that would probably soothe all your concerns even if they weren’t exactly honest. And you didn’t doubt that he had plenty of those stored for just this kind of situation.
But he thought about it before he answered you.
“I can’t tell you how I’ll feel tomorrow,” he said honestly, but there was something else in his voice when he continued, “but I can tell you that not finding out might be the worst mistake either of us will ever make.”
Sometimes you wished he wasn’t always so honest. It’d be easier to handle moments like this if you could think of him as exaggerating for your benefit.
“So we should just take the chance? Even if it means that it ends horribly and we both destroy our reputations for sex?”
Logan smiled at you. It wasn’t a smirk or a grin, but an honest to goodness smile.
“Deciding against even trying just because what might happen? Doesn’t sound like the same person that called my father to proposition Delos about an investment.”
You bit your lip as you felt a little heat start to warm your face.
“With my company, I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to succeed. I’m a little more careful in my personal life.”
“I’m not asking you to marry me Y/N,” he teased as he reached out to run his fingers over your wrist. “I’m just asking you to give this thing between us a chance outside of our companies. Just Y/N and Logan, no Delos Inc, no Y/L/N, no fathers making our decisions for us. I’m just asking you to admit that you want me as much as I want you.”
You envied his ability to say that with absolutely no fanfare. He wanted you. And as much as you’d tried to deny it, you wanted him too. And if that’s all he was asking for, for now, how could you deny a simple request?
“Okay,” you said with a nod, earning a surprised look from Logan. “I want… for the first time in I can’t remember how long, I want something just for me and not for my family’s company. I want you and I want… I want…”
You weren’t sure what you wanted beyond that. Was it so simple after all? Wanting Logan and having him were two very different things. And like you’d said before, you couldn’t be sure that he wouldn’t just lose interest once he got you in bed.
Logan licked his lips as he leaned back in his seat, picking up his drink and holding it out to you in a toast.
“It’s a start,” he said as he tapped his glass against yours before he took a long drink from it. “Now that you’ve admitted it, we’ll have to work up to you acting on it. But I don’t mind a challenge.”
You shook your head, unable to help the fond smile on your lips.
You’d still need to talk to your dad about what he’d seen and somehow make him see that it wasn’t a problem that you were some sort of friends with Logan Delos. And you needed to figure out what was going on with the prototype Orpheus units since the glitches still weren’t fixed. And you needed to figure out how to make Janus work.
But for now you were just going to enjoy the rest of your lunch with Logan.
The rest could be tomorrow’s problem.

Somewhere, in a dark room, a computer blinked to life. The display stayed black for a moment before a series of words appeared.
Link established. Uplink connected. Data sharing allowed.
The words blinked a few times before the screen went to black once more. Then an image came to the screen of the inside of a house, a living room. Moving around in the house was a woman who was grinning as she put her purse down on the coffee table, kicking her shoes off. She started to lower the zipper of her dress before she went upstairs.
The screen seemed to focus in on the purse on the coffee table. There was a moment before words flashed on the screen.
Y/N Y/L/N phone located. Data sharing started.
