Here's the brother! Also from @a-tsute and commissioned by me 🖤🩵 and how about a story excerpt? (not related to this, but there is a story related to these pics!). Plenty of MarLaw material on my AO3! This one is meeting up in Wano, and Law still recovering from imprisonment!

A feather floats down. The air grows a little lighter. He looks up, a smile on his lips. "Surely they need you, Surgeon of Death." "Marco." The theatrical bastard.

The island rocks and what the fuck and Law's almost sent sprawling across the basement floor with as much force as Doflamingo hurling him across the courtyard of the piazza, shoulder blades bouncing off cobblestone, bullets lodged in his chest.

But he's steady and quick and on alert, and dispensing Kaidou's lower subordinates has hardly raised a sweat. It's sacred, he knows, but the sturdiest place is the ridge of the platform that mounts the Poneglyph. It's secure in the way that tsunamis divert around shrines.

He'll get a copy anyway, for Robin and himself, and he needs to join the others in battle. He waits for the motion to stabilise. What's going on?

"Marco." The theatrical bastard. Both had their jobs to do when he dumped Nekomamushi at the feet of the Hearts and Scabbards as they breached Kaidou's defences, but whether burning bright in a snowy sky, or in the dark of this sanctuary, Law's glad to see him. He glides down like leaves from an autumn tree, through the hole some monster created. Transport with him is never as gentle.

I’ve always been inspired by flora and fauna and found the gesture of sending and receiving flowers among the most charming of traditions. I recently found myself researching all I could on the crossover area between technology and ecology – specifically flowers.Wikipedia defines ‘flower robot’ as “a simple electromechanical device with the appearance of a common flower.”  There are many motives that have inspired creators to experiment in this area from artificial flowers to promote pollination for bees to integrating semi conductive polymers inside the stem to generate electricity from photosynthetic processes and other designs and sculptures that have incorporated technology purely for aesthetic appeal.One of the earliest projects I found pertaining to this subject was an art/installation of a robotic flower garden by the Personal Robots Group at MIT’s Media Lab. This was developed in 2003 and coined the term Cyberflora. The flowers defined in this project all had different properties; Chromafant Blossom – capacitive sensing which will trigger swaying and glowing. Cobra Orchid and Dragon Iris – Movements synced to warmth. Violet Oscillies – Senses a hand passing over the top as the petals move.

Conducting experiments using electronic components and technical elements may raise ethical issues as plants are living things, extending into principles of biocentrism and plant rights. There are two types of approaches to cyber plants – adaptation of the pre-existing living flower or a digital product that mimics the properties of the living plant. The aforementioned artificial flowers to promote pollination take the second approach; known as the Synthetic Pollinizer it sits alongside real plants to try and lure bees in to gather man-made pollen from the robotic flower which is a safer alternative to pesticide infected plants. An example of the first approach is the experiment researchers at Linkoping University carried out creating a simple transistor circuit inside a rose. 

I think this is a very interesting sector to watch. The evolution of plants and flowers, not to mention the vast amount of species and variants means that we have a lot to learn and a long way to go.  Every day we are exploring new agricultural processes and expanding upon our knowledge, being able to communicate and collaborate on findings via the internet and means of modern communication will make a massive difference to the future of plants.

Take note that I've been posting since 2017, so there are a few works up there!

1) How many works do you have on AO3? 85.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count? 791,018 words.

3) What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Hmm, with smut or without? Actually, they are a mix (by kudos).

Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On) (350 kudos), Bioluminescent Hearts (323 kudos), Repossession (mind the tags!) 253 kudos, The sellout (mind the tags!) 237 kudos, the slut's dilemma 220 kudos (really, really, really, really mind the tags, please). I want to put a shout out for number 7: softening the fall of snow with 197 kudos. If I hadn't taken some of my fics off anon, that would be in the top 5.

4) What fandoms do you write for?

Only One Piece.

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! Because I'm so grateful, and it can lead to friendships!

6) What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Haha, all of them, but they're angsty and then happy (except for the Hurt, NO comfort fics). Maybe softening the fall of snow. But it's still upbeat in its own way. Defects (Marco is immortal, his partners are not)

7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Except for the Hurt no Comfort fics, I try to have a form of positive resolution. Maybe Repossession, or Bioluminescent Hearts, or screen / shiki-e. Doctor Death (Doula), despite its premise (actually, because of it). Overlooked and Underpaid is funny, I think, and Sea Hill too. Ooh, I love the ending of Welding (KidLaw)

8) Do you get hate on fics?

I have once or twice, but they were pretty confronting fics. However, they were tagged.

9) Do you write smut? I used to. Not so much any more, or when my mind leads me into darker recesses smut with a capital Dead Dove. However, I have written healthier smut, but yeah, not for a while.

10) Do you write crossovers?

I don't think so. Sometimes some kind of famous fictional world might fit a premise. For example, Taxi  is inspired by Jim Jarmusch's "Night on Earth", but it's not a crossover.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No. I thought a fic had a very similar premise, but what in fanfic doesn't? I asked the writer directly and although our fics had similar premises, mine did not inspire theirs.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I've been super lucky to have two of my fics translated into Vietnamese (maybe 3). screen / shiki-e by Dea_Fi screen / shiki-e (my original)

14) What’s your all-time favorite ship? close tie between LawBin and LawZo, I used to write MarLaw, and I'm still fond. I like SmoLaw and KidLawKid. LawSan's great too, but I haven't written them yet. I like Ray and Shakky, Aladine and Praline, Big Mom and Kaidou. Dunno, most ships are fine with me.

15) What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The last entry for the rare pair month from a few years ago (MarLaw. I have the idea).

16) What are your writing strengths?

I get the job done. Maybe keeping track of an idea.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Verbose, even with so few words.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I'm guessing this is the honorifics argument. Guess it depends how close you feel to the source material, and what the writer is trying to convey and why.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

One Piece. However, my sister and I did a word for word blow by blow rewrite of the Three Little Pigs when we were little.

20) Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Maybe I'll do my favourite of last year spilling into this. Decomposers (LawZo), Welding (KidLaw), water fills the shape of the holder  (law/guilt), and it's actually pulled from a much older and longer piece, but Brontë's Ring (mind the tags). I think my all-time recent fave is still in zine jail.

2024 Writing Roundup

I think I deleted my round up on the AO3-looking template, so, at the nnntthhhh hour, using it in text form, tagged by @hyperions-light . Thank you very much! I'm taking this from AO3. I've had a few meta on tumblr, but not many. I've got five fics outstanding for 2024, that I guess we'll see in 2025. I also didn't do any secret santas this year (I told myself I was too busy). It was a bit strange! Anyway--

words posted: 28,656 on main, and 12,362 on anon

additional words written: not sure what this means. I didn't have too many meta, so I'd say about 500? Ooh, wait, unpublished zine pieces: about 8000.

fandoms: One Piece

highest kudos: It's been a quiet year (no Bioluminescent Hearts this year!) so Heart Pirates' Week at 47 kudos. 72 on anon, and cumulatively, Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On) drew in 336 kudos. valuta , which was published in late December 2023, 92 kudos.

highest hit one-shot: Decomposers, my fic for the LawZo zine, has 586 hits. Fic on anon, 5,500 hits (but it's not a one-shot!).

new things I tried: I did the Davy Back Fight <- fic here, written with 3 others, and the remix project <- fic here. I was happy to try both!

fic I spent the most time on: Probably Welding, which was written for the KidLaw zine, just because the timeline/schedule on preparation for that zine stretched across almost two years. Also, it had a higher word count, and I really wanted to do it right (as with most pieces!).

fic I spent the least time on: Probably Sunk Cost Fallacy, which is a Heart Pirates fic written for the Davy Back Fight. Mostly because it was written between four people, and we wanted to keep a fairly low word limit. The ficlets I wrote for the Heart Pirates' Week took longer, but not that long.

favourite thing I wrote: It's a draw between three: Welding (6,767 words), my KidLaw fic; Decomposers (3,006 words), my LawZo fic; and water fills the shape of the holder (2,125 words), Law reflection fic, remixing one of @purplehairedwonder's fic.

I also had fun with the Kaidou, Queen, King and Black Maria piece (Remedy for Errors) I wrote for @crowbarsolo in support of Palestine, and Widi's Waddle (about Penguin's penguin), written for the OP Friend-Shaped Zine.

favourite thing(s) I read: Aw, a ton of stuff. I always like @anarchycox's LawZoLaw (also a great SmoLaw, but I'm not sure if it was this year), and all of the stories for the LawZo and KidLaw zines. I especially liked @alpha-hydra's Liminal Space (KidLaw), beautiful story by @/gammacavy from 2022 (The Caravel who Dared the Tempest) about Going Merry, but I just read it this year, and anything @crowbarsolo wrote, but especially the Cavendish/Nico Robin piece The Special Guests. ALSO! must mention home (the gilded lily remix) by @gladdecease who wrote a beautiful story springboarding from an older story of mine (house / yorishiro). Also loved Only You And I Remain (KidLaw) by @betsib and Give it to me, show me what you're feeling (show me that you need me) (LawZo) by @/CursedHoneyB. Maybe just check out my bookmarks (watch out for the kink!). Have been reading the multi-chap Warsong about my favourite rarepair, MarcoLaw, but it might've just gone beyond my word count limit (it's about 100K beyond my limit. Haha). It is beautifully written, though.

Give @hyperions-light's The Road(trip) to Hell Is Paved with Questionable Decision Making a read! It's a lot of fun, but all of their work is good (paying back, but also true!) They write under @flyiing-giraffe

I'm really enjoying the Going Merry: A Poor Substitute for Romance series by Springtime4Persephone. Focus is ZoSan, and I'm not a ZoSan shipper, but I enjoy it, and what I enjoy even more is the LawBin, and side servings of ZoLaw and LawSan. Very empathetic, fun and also a good serving of angst. Also, @/TerrifiedAristocat's Somebody Write Down the Recipe (LawSan, vampire and creatures of wonder in a modern day setting) is very good. Ongoing. Last two are E ratings.

Also, there are a dozen things I've read and loved and haven't mentioned here. I read a lot less this year though. All of the stuff for the Heart Pirates' Week was great, and I really enjoyed the beginning of ghosts speak in whispers and lies; can't know what's real 'til you're the one who's died (E rated, LawBin) by @nehswritesstuffs (Nehszriah) on AO3.

writing goals for 2025: None so far. Maybe return to my own work (rather than fanfic). BUT, who knows :D

new works: Again, nothing lined up at the moment. I do have a story in the gorgeous Pigment of Imagination (ophuezine). Pre-sales open now (closing soon). And four ficlets for the upcoming Fate and Fortune, one piece anthology digital zine. Stay-tuned for both! OH, also, I have a piece for the Baltigo Manifesto zine (about one piece revs). Due for publication in 2025.

It was no surprise that Law—stripped to his undershirt—excelled at avoiding pulverisation. On each upswing of the mallet—held between Ikkaku and Clione, Shachi and Penguin, or individually by Jean Bart or Bepo—he turned the dough. Pinpricks of sweat danced along his tatts, the ink as much a target as a warning.

Actually, it is Gonbe's birthday, and I haven't seen any fanart, so have an excerpt from Doctor Death Doula (also, check out Ale's beautiful art, yet again, which accompanied it). {The story really isn't about Gonbe, but it is set in Water 7, and is canon adjacent. But we all know that Law isn't really a death doula (but he could be one), and that Kokoro will rival Kureha in age). The story is uplifting, despite the premise (or actually, because of it).

Background for the scene below, Kokoro is an ailing ex-speakeasy singer, and Law and his crew have their own jazz group that practices in the loading docks around the port when they're deserted and when they're not out caring for others. Kokoro, Chimney and Gonbe come to check them out and jam.

"It's a cat," Bepo said, "Cats and jazz don't mix." Yet another of the North Blue crew, the Mink helped Ikkaku set up her kit. Why was a cat coming to watch them play? It was gonna wreak havoc with his allergies. "Sure they do, Beps." Shachi patted Bepo's upper arm. Bepo put the be-bop in Bepo-pop. They might let him scat later. "Jazz cats, cool for cats, hep-cats." "Autocrats," Penguin volunteered, righting his bass, plucking a few notes, tuning. The cars on the major road, a few blocks over, rumbled in the background. "Cats, not crats, Pen," Ikkaku said, tapping a cymbal then pinching it lightly to mute the sound.

Law's work van, phoenix tail feathers detailed in blue and yellow along the side and curling around the back, pulled up. Bepo approached the opened side door. Law exited from the driver's side and secured the wheelchair lift. Bepo stepped back and that girl—a meteor of energy—tumbled out, pigtails vertical. A rabbit hopped after her, then away towards the loading docks on the other side of the road to sniff at the ivy. Bepo sneezed. "Gonbe!" The girl ran after her pet. "Stupid cat." Figured, Bepo thought, and wiped the back of his paw across his nose. Kokoro's laughter filled the van, and Bepo usually heard it directed his way for being a bear (Kokoro's words). If Law wasn't available, Bepo went in his place. She didn't have anything against Minks, which was cool because Bepo had nothing against mermaids. Kokoro, (flask tucked into her bag), regally navigated the wheelchair down the ramp and Bepo pushed her to their set-up. Law removed his gear from the vehicle, dumped it, then parked further up the road. Walking back, hands in pockets, the breeze lifted Law's black shirt, swelling the bronze heart that flanked the side seam. Chimney raced over just as Penguin counted them in, Gonbe on her shoulders. Ikkaku picked up the bassline, Shachi introed the melody and Law led from it. A big band tune without the big band, the song was brass-heavy at the start. The weekend was empty. Swing filled the street. Eight bars in, everyone dropped a decibel or two or stopped playing altogether. Kokoro sang. Gonbe jumped off Chimney's shoulders and onto her lap, and the quick flare of pain Law saw in her eyes over the pistons of the trumpet didn't hide her joy. Chimney sat on Penguin's foldout seat and swung her legs. Ikkaku and Penguin shared glances. Kokoro's pitch and phrasing tugged smiles from their faces—she sure had a set of pipes on her. Shachi, head down, concentrated on his fretwork. Chimney joined Kokoro on the second verse. Ikkaku kicked in on the third. Some songs were universal.
