my ‘to read’ tag under my bookmarks is a lot, but specifically i have a Whole Boatload of corazon fics to read once i finish dressrosa. i still don’t know very much about him as a character so i wanna see him in canon before i get in too deep with the fics asdfkj

otherwise! i’m finishing up the second ace novel which i am reading to @doctorbajillian via voice call and should really actually get around to finishing soon

3. Do you prefer canonverse or AUs?

i don’t have much of a preference with reading, but i think i prefer writing modern aus. i don’t have to worry too much about getting things “right” and i feel like i have a lot more freedom with how i interpret things.

4. What fandom’s/ship’s fan fiction do you read the most?

oh one piece for sure. as for ships, i’ve been reading a lot of doflacroc and shanks/benn lately? and i think overall i’ve read acemarco The Most since there’s so much of it.

I know that fandom often clowns on this statement

from Law (about needing to take down monsters to learn about history), taking it as proof that he's somehow not fighting for freedom or that

freedom of expression is not something important that has been sanctified ratified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. (Article 19)

But that it is instead some nerdish pastime that no other character in One Piece or the real world is invested in (WG or otherwise) for obvious reasons of power, politics and freedom/repression.

But there are governments and organisations that regularly suppress this kind of expression (in One Piece and the real world--no surprise):

Like, knowing history and access to history/knowledge is one of the main themes of the manga. And Big Mom is a monster. And the World Government is a repressive monolith. And this guy (guy?) 👇:

nuking places and people for not toeing the line, or for knowing too much; riddled with antipathy towards holders of the Will of D. and, with Artur's (Library of Ohara) claim (among others) that the ancient immense kingdom was formed by descendants of the D. clan (which is canon)—

—then wouldn't you too be curious and more than a little pissed off that your curiosity could be the catalyst for persecution and genocide?

That searching for identity, roots...your reason for being, is not allowed? (Sound familiar?)

Like, those scholarly waters are nothing if not shark-infested.

Ultimately the pen (Robin's ability to read the poneglyphs, the scholars' meticulous research) probably will be mightier than the sword, and although bureaucracy can entrap, knowing how to read between the lines, or even to read them, can loosen the ties that bind, and help ensure they are not unfairly cast.

Keep fighting to study history, Law. I too want to know about the Will of D.

This scene from One Piece Academy some time ago (Law and Robin are just friends, but they're good friends, and Onigiri and she get on well!). Combined with:

(Robin is saying "a certain" there (とある, toaru), not Law's name! (トラ男 tora-o) btw, and thank you for translation from @1000sunnygo! in this post.) ...Let's me imagine that OP Academy low-key sees them as having an affinity with one another! The fact that Robin hacks

Cora's security system (his password was his birthdate, but how did Robin know that? i'm sure it's in the lore somewhere, and Robin is Robin), and offers to help Law and Cora in their mission adds to it! (of course all of the Straw Hats are helping, Nami offers to charge!).

Robin calls Cora Cora-o kun (コラ男くん). The 男 (o --> otoko--> boy/man at the end of his name [as it is at the end of Tora]) is cute. It's pretty unusual for a non-adult to use the suffix 'kun' to an adult though, and even among adults is usually used for closer acquaintances, once past youth. That's my understanding anyway. So, that's another Robin quirk. Anyway But as 1000sunnygo says in this post, the academy society is mostly made up of students, including characters who should be adults, like Cora, or who are adults but still students.

Robin offering her and Brook's services because they're good at subterfuge, as seen in the screen-cap above, is very supportive of Law and his benefactor! I know all the characters have run-ins with the 'bad guys' at the academy and influencing the academy. The other person who seems to have an accidental (Robin's is not accidental) affinity for Onigiri (and by extension, Law) is Kid!

Not from the latest chapter (Kid needs to be nice to save himself from going to Hell). I am nothing if not a multi-shipper 😁. Onigiri is maybe as popular as Law himself :D

I feel I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think that Zoro’s loyalty to Luffy is blind. I feel he assessed the situation. I also feel that he’d be the last character to worship an individual as a god, and that it undersells his character and the equality between Luffy and Zoro to put Luffy on such a pedestal, whether it be in Nika form or average Luffy form, to set Zoro up as the number one acolyte of the Luffy cult. Although that sometimes feels what some of fandom’s relationship with Luffy is.

I dig the devil/angel art, don’t get me wrong, but I think that Zoro’s personality is strong enough to not get completely consumed by another. Although I like OPLA, and the boys in canon are devoted for sure, I think that OPLA in particular cut Zoro’s character development short, and maybe it’s now being reflected in interpretations of the same.

He is headstrong, though, for sure, and maybe he is Peter to Jesus, but I like something a little more down to earth, even though they’re both obviously extraordinary.
