This marks the first appearances of Paige, Scarlett, Clarence, and Aziz. The former three previously appeared in Rough Sketch, the latter debuts here. This is also the first time Siren appears in the flesh.

Olive makes her first appearance since her debut.

Scarlett inherited Rosie’s old name from the original continuity. The names “Violet” and “Scarlett” came around about a month before Gamefreak agreed it was a good idea.

This episode debuts a new background style with geometric blocks of color to partially convey movement.

This episode also dabbles in consistent leitmotifs for certain characters; in this case, Scarlett, Clarence, and Aziz.

Aziz’s setup shows “Sore Losers” playing in the background. Coincidentally, that was Rosie’s debut episode.

No Gray Drewmans appear.

Clarence was created entirely as a joke very early on. Being the Clear Drewman, he was characterized ironically throughout RS as being incredibly spacey, frivolous, and scatterbrained, most of which Geneva ultimately inherited. After the jump to ICT, Clarence suffered the most and was relegated to the role of a side character for a while before ultimately rejoining the core cast. To reflect (or rather, refract) this, he traded his old looniness for a far more intelligent, overly helpful persona-the catch being that nobody can bother to notice.

…It’s Color Theory!

Clarence is a character I came up with on a whim very early in ICT’s development, that is to say, before even Angie’s design was finalized, as a joke that in a cast where everyone is color coded, Clarence is crystal clear. Subsequently, throughout the original RS run, he was an incredibly strange, frivolous character. With Geneva filling roughly the same niche, I feel like I’ve been neglecting him a bit, and of the fifteen characters to debut in Rough Sketch’s first season, he’s the only one not to be part of It’s Color Theory’s definitive main cast of 24, even if he is still slated to be a regular.

This being the fourth wall-driven universe this is, you can imagine this will factor into his drastically different personality in the new continuity.
