This one is for @shadsiethewriter​ and everyone else who watched the classic She-Ra cartoon as a child. It took 35 years, but we got to see Hordak turn away from evil. We got to see him reconcile with Adora. We got to see her forgive him.

Here’s the thing, The Rose of Versailles was my next really big thing after She-Ra when I was young. There was BraveStarr in between that I loved very much too, but I only watched like, the odd occasional episode of that. I was still too young. I was 12 when The Rose of Versailles was on TV here, and that’s when I really started to wait for every episode and wanted to see all of them. I’ve had probably my first pansexual awakening over those characters. I was fascinated and saddened over the whole French revolution story more than every history lesson in school could ever make me. And I cried my eyes out over Oscar’s and André’s deaths. And one of the reasons for that is because Oscar and Adora had very similar backstories. Growing up soldiers, fighting for the wrong side for a long time in their lives until they turn against the regiment and their ruler and fight as leaders by the ordinary people’s side. And JFC would I have loved an art style like this for the reboot.

It’s probably the only anime style I ever really found beautiful. And look, the people actually got lips. This is really a subjective criticism, but that tone and that art of this series (if it’s got to be anime), is what I would have loved to pieces for the She-Ra reboot.

We can skip the “dying in the last great battle” part though, thank you very much.

I agree. In my case I don't like the new designs but it's a matter of personal preference and taste. That's the reason I'm not watching the new show and I'm rewatching the original one.

I'm not against diversity and representation, actually I'm constantly seeking it, sadly according to my likes, Western animation is far to achieve it correctly for now.

Friendly reminder to all new fans of the new show that Noelle Stevenson didn't reinvented the wheel and these characters and the world they belong aren't her creation. She made her own interpretation that we can like it or not (in my case I don't like it), but without the series from 80s we wouldn't have the new one now.

I've seen some harsh comments around the web from new fans calling us old fans "nostalgic jerks that cannot appreciate new things". That's what I don't like. I'm not a nostalgic jerk and I can appreciate new things if they're totally original and new and according to my likes.

Reboots and remakes always will have that curse of dealing with the shadow of the original source, so calling names to the people who don't like the new aesthetic is not right.

I'm agree with you OP, don't alienate, be nice.

Can you prefer the new, more diverse versions of the design? Absolutely (I do). Friendly reminder though that if you’re about to call out an artist who depicts those characters different than from the reboot, please check first that their piece of art does not represent the classic cartoon. Don’t alienate. Be nice.

Prime Awkward Years (SPOP Prompt)

Horde Prime spent many years perfecting his body with genetic engineering before he was satisfied and made an army in his image.

Entrapta, while hacking into Horde Prime’s ship, finds photos of these earlier bodies, and perhaps even Horde Prime’s original body.

Hordak tries very hard not to laugh at some of them.

And the Unnamed One who both is and isn’t Horde-Prime. See, he’s a member of Orko’s kind ( a Q-type alien ala Star Trek) who lost half their soul. The lost half of the soul became the formless Horde Prime who puppets soulless bodies to interact with the world.

And while the Filmation version’s (possibly possessed artificial body?) was never seen clearly, he was enormous and was revealed to have another heads somewhere on his body when Hordak was trying to find him a birthday present. (Hordak discounted Grizzlor’s idea of getting his master two giant bowties)

Flowers for Hordak

Basically in the old series, Perfuma was…. kinda a ditz but an effective one. After being kidnapped by the Horde she stages a bloodless coup against Hordak without realizing it, because all the killer robots like her better than Hordak.

…she starts a conga line.

Hordak ends up paying She-Ra to to take her home.

Look at him on his throne. He just sits there realizing he has lost control of his life.

And she can heal them too. And the way she found it out is kind of heartbreaking.
