I haven't read the books with Cloudberry super recently but I don't think it makes a lot of sense that Riverclan was willing to surrender one of their medicine cats to the clan that they're actively at war with and just lost a warrior to? It seems like Appledusk's body wasn't even cold yet when Cloudberry was packing her bags to go to her clan's biggest enemy. I don't think the clans cared as much as they do in the modern day about making sure all the clans survive either, considering that Skyclan being kicked out probably wasn't that long ago. Anyway she should get her own book, she could have some super interesting conflicts where she's basically expected to go from being enemies with Eurasia to East Asia at the drop of a hat but is still heavily scrutinized by her new Thunderclan clanmates while also having to deal with her medicine cat training and experience all being geared towards both Riverclan herbs and healing techniques and philosophy.

Maybe Riverclan warriors tend to be more chill about letting the medicine cat treat them after battles and border skirmishes while Thunderclan warriors resent the interruption to their discussions of the battle and the strategies they'll use in the next one. Maybe she had a complicated relationship with Appledusk because they're related in some way but also he's a dick and now she can't work through her feelings about him because her new clan is being super jingoistic about hating him. How did she feel about the Mapleshade situation? Who were her friends and family in Riverclan and how do her relationships with them change? What were her relationships with Ravenwing and Oatspeckle like? Did she have any non-medicine cat allies in Thunderclan before her clan switch? Does she feel resentful on any level that she was chosen for this? If Starclan sent a sign indicating that she should be the one who goes to Thunderclan in Ravenwing's place, does she feel hesitant to trust it after the disaster that Ravenwing's sign that drove Mapleshade and her kits out of Thunderclan caused? Does she wish that Starclan and Ravenwing hadn't acted in a way that had gotten him and so many others killed so she wouldn't have to go to Thunderclan but also because all these pointless deaths irrespective of clan weigh on her more as a medicine cat and healer than they would on an average warrior who can't see past borders to the tragedy of the deaths beyond them?

fun fact about this AU fic, there are NO original characters in it! :-) all the named characters are canon warrior cats characters! (some have name changes though, to fit their current role)

Duskwater, Birdsong, Tanglepaw, and Troutpaw are the elders Duskwater, Birdsong, Tanglewhisker, and Troutclaw from Crookedstar's promise

Voleflight, Cloudpaw and Echosnout are leader Volestar and medicine cats Cloudberry and Echosnout from Goosefeather's curse

Milkfur, Eeltail, Splashfoot, Spiketail, and Rainfall are all RiverClan warriors from Mapleshade's Vengeance

The RiverClan elders Icewhisker, Sloefur, and Blackbee are a bit more obscure. Icewhisker and Sloefur are medicine cat and deputy of riverclan respectively in Cloudstar's Journey, and Blackbee is from code of the clans. Blackbee still being alive is a stretch at best, but I like her name a lot, and the chronology of her story from Cotc isn't set in stone, so I figure she's just aaaancient, and was a veeery young warrior in that story.

Petalkit also mentions Snakestar and Marshpaw while telling Perchpaw a story. Snakestar is Snaketail, the deputy of Shadowclan in Cloudstar's Journey, and Marshpaw is mentioned by Shadowclan elders in a gathering at the start of MV, saying that he was bitten by an adder on his first patrol. Petalkit spins this into a story where he trespasses on ShC territory and Snakestar eats him.

And it'll be mentioned in upcoming chapters, but the leader of WindClan is Milkstar, who is Milkfur, the WC deputy in Cloudstar's journey. Fun fact! There are THREE Milkfurs who all lived very close together! Milkfur from RC has a daughter, Milkfur II, who is the RiverClan medicine cat in Yellowfang's Secret.

and of course, most of the others (Reedshine, Appledusk, etc) were major characters in MV so there's no question of where they came from haha :-)

WindClan Family Tree Diagnosis

Back in October of last year, I made an initial diagnosis where you can see some fun old concepts for my rewrite project (it's fun to see what I went with and what I didn't), but in the hopes of helping out everyone looking to make their own family trees for WindClan, here is an updated, straightforward diagnosis!

As you can see... WindClan is pretty barren, bloodline-wise. You won't see major characters like Kestrelwing or Harestar on this chart, because they don't have any canonical family.

In spite of it being ThunderClan's neighbor, the writers have done nothing with its lineages. So, for the most part, you're building connections that are completely new. The one tangle in all of WindClan is a doozy...

Heathertail and Breezepelt are related in two places.

Firstly, through Hickorynose and Meadowslip, she was second cousins with him. Secondly, and FAR MORE EGREGIOUSLY, she was his first cousin once removed through Ashfoot and Onestar.

So the quickest and easiest fix is simply to undo Ashfoot being his sister. If you want to clean even deeper, you can remove Sorrelshine as Deadfoot's sibling.

And, that aside, WindClan is your blank canvas.
