I love how excited he is about the release of CMBYN 😭 My Twitter notifications are going OFF cause he just keeps tweeting/retweeting stuff about it cause it’s now out in some countries. Like YES BBY YOU DID THAT
sorry I just have to do one more haterist ramble about lestat's music career because once again I feel a NEED to POINT OUT that the biggest queer male artists with the type of fame lestat is meant to have are pop/ALT-pop artists (think troye, lil nas, omar apollo) not fucking theatre kid glam rock. like you coulda had lestat drop a truly insane pop mv in the vein of lil nas' cmbyn mv, or troye's one of your girls. like THAT'S the level lestat supposedly should be at. it's the BARE MINIMUM really. and the crazy thing is we are so lucky to live in a time with MULTIPLE openly gay and bi men as pop stars. WHY would you not use them as inspiration, as a blue print????? the glam rock genre isn't DEAD it's just not where the stars are, even if they use the aesthetics of that genre. like it's not that fucking HARD to research this. It's gonna come off as so cringe and outdated compared to the quality of the early show and it PISSES ME OFF because the song they've provided isn't even good enough to justify picking this genre!!! Modern lestat should be a goddamn eccentric DJ, or gay pop boi!!! that's it!!! I'm not dying on this hill but I'll kill Rolin Jones on it!!!
I just wanna feel it all over, something that I’ve never known
Love me ‘til I break my cover, I just want to let it go
So hit me in the face, something real as pain
Like we can’t get any closer, I just want to lose myself
So call me by, call me by your name
~ Call Me By Your Name - Omar Rudberg & Claudia Neuser
CMBYN has been on repeat since its release and it scratches that certain itch in my music nerd brain where I feel the need to analyze it, so here we go (I've also already posted the analysis on tiktok if it helps you to hear what parts I'm talking about instead of just reading)
The song opens with Omar singing a solo verse and chorus with piano accompaniment and minimal bass. This instrumentation establishes his "voice" in the song. And when he sings the word "pain" in the chorus he adds a vocal cry to his voice. By doing this he emphasizes the emotions he's feeling. He's hurt and broken therefore the voice has a bit of a crack in it as well.
I wanna lose myself
Throw me in the pit of your fire
Something I can't forget
Kinda love that never expire
It's been a minute by myself
I'm tired of waiting
I want that kind of love
That has you changing
I just wanna feel it all over
Something that I've never know
Love me til I break my cover
I just want to let it go
So hit me in the face
Something real as pain
Like we can't get any closer
I just wanna lose myself
So call me by call me by your name
Then Claudia comes in with her verse. The instrumentation is noticeably different here. There's much more bass and synth, but a lack of piano, establishing her "voice" in the song. With this we can see what each "voice" is lacking. They're missing each other.
Is it too much to ask
To feel something real
No I don't want to be in
Another stupid fantasy
When the pre chorus is sung both times, the word "love" is the highest note in the section. Love is what they're reaching for in the song, that is the aspiration.
It's been a minute by myself
I'm tired of waiting
I want that kind of love
That has you changing
Finally, both voices come together to sing the chorus. Here we have the full instrumentation of the song: piano with synth and bass. The two voices literally and figuratively coming together. Omar's part and Claudia's part are about an octave. Although both voices are on the same wavelength as each other, there's still that distance between them represented by the octave.
