Safety

As many have heard, CMU had a murder on their campus. No students were killed, but the students were in lockdown for many hours. It was not a school shooting, but it broke our sense of safety and security. I’m scared to go back. How do you go where you call home when there had been a murder and a murderer on the loose? What if it happens again? What if students are killed next time? If that happens, what else can? We are no longer safe in our home. How do we go on without looking behind us, worrying that someone else will be killing people? How can we trust those we live with and see everyday? How do we feel safe anymore?

Because of this event, I had my worst panic attack in a long time because I’m afraid. I’m afraid of going back. I’m afraid of being hurt. I’m afraid of trusting people. I’m afraid of drugs because that is what changes a fellow student into a murderer. I’m just afraid.
