Soulmates
(Alessia Russo x reader)
Tumblr media
Everyone knew that you and Less were soulmates, they could see the love that you guys have for each other through a simple look.
You met Less when you were only 5 years old. She was playing soccer with her older brother when she accidentally hit you with her ball. You started crying and she immediately went to console you, she didn’t understand why but she felt the necessity of making you smile. The moment you lifted your head she saw your green eyes, magically in that moment green became her favorite color and you guys became inseparable.
When you guys were 12 Less started to feel butterflies each time, she saw you in the stands when she had a match.
When you were 15 she asked you out in a date as she realized that she liked you as more than friends and in your third date she asked you to be her girlfriend.
“y/nn I know that it’s our third date and I can’t wait anymore to ask you. Would you like to become my girlfriend?” Less asked with a nervous voice.
“Yes Less! What took you so long baby? I've been waiting for years for you to ask me” you said with a playful voice
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
You liked football but let’s say that you didn’t have the skills so, you left the playing part to Less while you liked more the behind the scenes. You loved how much the stats could say a lot of a team and even there were times when the stats weren’t reflected on the final score of the game.
When Lessi turned 18 she decided to go to the States to play for UNC, that was the first challenge of your relationship as you feared her finding someone better than you. She reassured you that you were the only one for her so, you guys stayed in a long-distance relationship.
While she went to UNC you decided to go to Barcelona to study sport analytics. You were one of the best students of the program and that called FC Barcelona attention. You went and did a kind of internship for them for their women’s team, your job was to work with the other analysts, explain the reports to the head coach and then explain the numbers to the players.
In 2020 Less came back to the UK while you stayed some months more in Barcelona to finish your degree. During your time there you became friends to the girls of the team, specially to the older members as they understood the importance of your job. When you got your degree your time with them ended and you went back to England. Even if your time ended Barcelona still would hire you to be their analyst for the big games.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
You moved back to England, more specifically to Manchester as United signed Less for three years. You were static to be back with the love of your life, your soulmate. Having been separated from Lessi was the hardest thing that you had ever done and you didn't wanted to do it again.
In 2021 Less with the help of Mary and Tooney asked you the big question. She rented out a restaurant just for you guys, she brought you your favorite flowers and after the most perfect date she got down in one knee. Mary and Tooney were hidden capturing the moment as she wanted to remeber it forever.
“y/n I’ve loved you even before I understood the meaning of love. I’ll forever be grateful to my brother as the day I met you he convinced me to go to the park. That day green became my favorite color. You are my number one supporter, and you never missed a game until I went to UNC. Even if I decided to go there, we stayed in a relationship and you don’t know it but you became my rock, with your support I knew that everything was possible. You could have perfectly stayed in Barcelona and work for one of the biggest clubs in the world however, you came back because of me. I remember telling my mom the day I met you that I would marry you before I fully understood what that meant but now, I do and I plan making those words true. y/n l/n will you marry me and make me the happiest woman alive? “
“Yes Lessi! I’ll marry you!”
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
In 2022 after the Euros and before the start of the new season you married your soulmate. Your wedding was full of friends, families, and football legends in the making. Your friends from Barcelona came to the wedding and even Aitana was your maid of honor while for Less it was Tooney. That day couldn't had been more perfect, you had everything you wanted.
In 2023 Arsenal became interested in Less, they even offered you a contract to join them as an analyst. They knew that Less wouldn’t join them if she had to leave you behind.
Now you and your wife work for the same club even if sometimes Barcelona still hire you for some matches. It was the beginning of a new chapter in your journey but you knew that with your soulmate beside you everything was going to be alright.
You met your soulmate by accident and everything because of football ball that she had hit too hard.

It was about time for me to write something, even if it's short, for my favorite player <3

Team USA has their man?
Tumblr media
The search for the next leader of the US Men's National team is over, as Mauricio Pochettino is the next man to try and send the US men's team to the top of the soccer world. The US dismissed Gregg Berhalter for the second time after a poor showing at Copa America, with the consensus from critics that they needed to make a big name hire.
The former Chelsea coach comes in with an impressive resumé, probably the best the US has ever seen. He is known for a high pressing 4-2-3-1 attacking style of play and development of young players, which does sound like a good change for the national team.
Pochettino started in La Liga with Espanyol back in 2009 where he dealt with reported financial restrictions but established a system from the youth academy to the senior team which drew praise.
He then made the move to Southampton in 2013 where he lead the team to an 8th place finish which was the Saints best finish and highest point total in several years.
2014 saw him move over to Totthenham, the move that really made him a big name coach. They were immediately in contention in 2015, finishing the season 3rd in the table. The following season they had a second place finish, another great finish for the squad. His best season was 2019, where the Spurs made the Champions League final but lost to Liverpool.
In 2021, Pochettino found himself at PSG which saw him lead the team to a French Super Cup win, loss in the Champions League semis to Manchester City, Coupe de France title and second place finish in the league by a single point behind the champions in Lille. He did get PSG the ligue1 title the very next season, though.
In 2023, he was back in the Premier League as the coach of Chelsea, immediately taking the team to the EFL cup final but lose to Liverpool. He had issues with management over strategy and squad management that did lead to his dismissal in May of 2024
Pochettino has coached many big name players, that have been very successful under him, some of them you may have heard of: Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Messi just to name a few. Pochettino hasn't been officially named yet as their is an issue with his Chelsea contract that the US have to figure out first but I doubt it isn't one that wouldn't be solved soon.
So do you like the move to get Pochettino and his attacking style of play, working the ball out of the back trying to work passes into the box?
I appreciate you for reading...enjoy your day!

Will be very interesting to see if any other NWSL teams fire their head coach to hire her. A lot of teams, including Angel City, could justify firing their current coach in order to hire someone they didn't anticipate being available. That said, not sure if I would want her at Angel City or not. I still have flashbacks of how poorly she utilized Christen at Manchester United.
Hell I wonder if she'd like to be GM rather than coach, I'd fire Angela and let Casey recruit for us

afc richmond: a guide to the premier league underdogs (contains spoilers of the season 3 finale of ted lasso)
from https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFC_Richmond
AFC Richmond is an English professional football club based in Richmond, West London. Founded in 1897, they play their home games at Nelson Road Stadium. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division of English football. The club has never won a major trophy.
Full name: AFC Richmond Nickname(s): The Greyhounds Founded: 1897; 125 years ago Ground: Nelson Road Capacity: 25,486 Owner: Rebecca Welton (51%), Richmond fans (49%) Chairman: Leslie Higgins Manager: Roy Kent League: Premier League 2021-22: Premier League, 2nd of 20
Richmond’s history has been notoriously mediocre. They were the last London club to make their Wembley Stadium debut (on April 18, 2021, for the 2021 FA Cup semifinals, against Manchester City). Formerly owned by Rupert Mannion, and (for a short time) Freddie Mercury, and formerly managed by George Cartrick and Ted Lasso, Richmond’s luck has truly turned around since 2019-20, when they were relegated to the EFL Championship. During that 2019 season, ownership changed hands from longterm owner Rupert Mannion, who had owned Richmond since 1987, to his now ex-wife, Rebecca Welton, after a divorce from a marriage in which Mannion cheated on Welton multiple times with multiple women. After Welton's acquisition of the club in January 2020, she hired American NCAA Division II football coach Ted Lasso to be the new manager of AFC Richmond. Lasso's extraordinary lack of knowledge of the game, despite assistance from another American coach, Coach Willis Beard, led to Richmond's relegation.
In the 2020-21 season, their first full season under the management of Ted Lasso, they earned second in the Championship and were therefore promoted back to the Premiership. They also made it to the semifinals of the FA Cup, the furthest Richmond has ever been in that competition.
In 2021-22, Richmond was predicted by literally every pundit who spoke on English football to finish 20th of 20 in the Premier League, and, therefore, be relegated once again. Statistically, it's likely that teams that earn their promotions get relegated again the very next year. But Lasso and his Greyhounds had things to say about that. After a 1-1 tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, legendary striker Zava joined Richmond, spurring the Greyhounds on a 5-game winning streak. It was week 6 of the season, and Richmond was in third place on the table. Their fate had seemingly turned around off the foot of Zava. But, after a devastating loss against West Ham (now owned by Rupert Mannion and managed by Nathan Shelley, formerly Richmond's kit man), they went 7 weeks without a win. When Zava retired in the middle of the season, Richmond went their 8th week without a win, and many people were considering Lasso's capabilities as manager. Those doubts continued through Richmond going to Amsterdam to play a friendly against AFC Ajax, that Richmond lost 5-0. But, upon their return to England and the Premier League, Richmond started playing with a new strategy - total football. Their first match against Arsenal also resulted in a loss, but Richmond was showing signs of life for the first time in months. Richmond ended the season on a 17-game winning streak (the longest streak in Richmond's history), earning second in the Premier League and promotion to the Champions League.
2021-22 starting xi:
14 - dani rojas (mexico, striker) 9 - jamie tartt (england, centre attacking midfield/striker) 12 - colin hughes (wales, left wing) 8 - richard montlaur (france, midfield) 21 - moe bumbercatch (switzerland, midfield) 24 - sam obisanya (nigeria, right wing) 2 - arlo dixon (england, right wing back) 13 - jan maas (netherlands, centre back) 5 - isaac mcadoo (england, centre back), captain 17 - jeff goodman (england, left wing back) 81 - thierry zoreaux (canada, keeper)
terms to know: gaffer: manager - formerly george cartrick, ted lasso, currently roy kent skipper: captain - formerly roy kent, currently isaac mcadoo

How big a problem is racism in modern football?
Racism in football is a longstanding issue that has yet to be eradicated. The sport, which is beloved by millions around the world, has been marred by instances of racist behaviour from players, coaches, fans, and even governing bodies. These forms of discrimination not only hurt the individuals who are targeted, but also harm sport as a whole and the communities that support it. This begs the question what is being done to tackle it?
One of the most prominent ways in which racism has manifested itself in football is through the use of racial slurs and other forms of verbal abuse directed at players, coaches, and officials.
In recent years, there have been a number of high-profile incidents, including the case of John Terry, who was accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during a match in 2011. More recently, in 2019, Raheem Sterling was subjected to racial abuse by a spectator during a match against Chelsea.
Tumblr media
As football fans, we need to take greater responsibility. It can be just as bad not calling out this behaviour. So, I question why this behaviour is not being reported and called out as frequently as possibly it should be.
Perhaps we should consider some form of incentivisation e.g. encouraging fans to report instances of racism by offering a drink. Do you think this would make fans more likely to report racist behaviour?
Another form of racism in football is discrimination in hiring and management. There is a significant lack of diversity in coaching and management positions.
A study by the Sports People’s Think Tank found that only 4% of professional coaches in England are black, despite the fact that 28% of professional players are black.
This lack of diversity in leadership positions perpetuates stereotypes and discrimination against black players and coaches. Having said this, it is challenging to arrive at possible solutions, although steps are starting to be taken as I will illustrate later.
Racism in football is also a manifestation of the racism within the societies where sport takes place. Football clubs can act as symbols of a community, and racist attitudes that are present in a community can be reflected in the attitudes of the fans and officials of a football club.
Racism can also be found in the way the media covers football. Raheem Sterling spoke out against the media and stood up for his Manchester City colleague  Tosin Adarabioyo when the Daily Mail portrayed him in a very different manner to another white Manchester City youngster Phil Foden.
Tumblr media
It is clear from this example that Adarabioyo was portrayed negatively for buying a house for his family for a large sum of money, when they were happy to show Foden as a hero for the same thing.
Racist stereotypes and biased representation of players can contribute to discrimination and prejudice. How are newspapers such as the Daily Mail  allowed to get away with this with no form of punishment or sanction?
To eradicate racism in football, a multifaceted approach is needed.
One important step is to address racist behaviour when it occurs. This includes holding individuals and groups accountable for their actions and imposing penalties when necessary. This could include fines, bans, and other sanctions.
Furthermore, it is crucial to raise awareness and educate individuals on the issue of racism, as some may not recognise the harmful effects of their behaviour.
Another important step is to increase diversity and representation in leadership positions within the sport. This can be achieved through initiatives such as the "Rooney Rule", named after NFL team owner Dan Rooney.
The ruling requires teams to interview at least one person of colour for head coaching and senior football operation vacancies. This will ensure that all voices are heard and will help to break down the stereotypes that have long been associated with football.
Tumblr media
In addition, FIFA and other governing bodies of football should also play a leading role in addressing racism. This could include creating and enforcing stricter policies on racist behaviour, promoting diversity and inclusion, and providing resources for players, coaches, and officials to report racist incidents.
Moreover, creating partnerships with anti-discrimination groups, promoting anti-discrimination campaigns, and fostering a sense of community ownership in football clubs can help to combat racism. This can be achieved through fan engagement initiatives and supporting local community groups that promote diversity and inclusion.
Finally, it is important to recognise that racism in football is a symptom of a larger societal issue. Racism in football cannot be fully eradicated unless it is addressed in society as a whole. It is essential therefore that all people work together to combat discrimination and prejudice in all forms, both in the world of football and beyond.
In conclusion, racism in football is a serious and ongoing issue that must be addressed. It is not enough to simply condemn racist behaviour; real action must be taken to educate, raise awareness, and stand against racism.
Thanks for reading and please comment on whether you think enough is being done to combat racism, and if not, what you think should be happening.

Manchester United names Georgson as their next coach
Tumblr media
Andreas Georgson is the new first-team coach at Manchester United. This was revealed by the Red Devils in a statement posted on their website prior to their preseason friendly match against Arsenal this coming Saturday. The most recent hire made by Man United boss Erik Ten Hag this summer is Georgson. In the updated configuration, he will collaborate with Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher, two other first-team coaches. The 42-year-old, who has been head coach of Lillestrom in Norway since January of this year, moved to the Premier League's biggest teams. Having previously held coaching positions at Brentford, Arsenal, and Southampton, he possesses a wealth of coaching expertise in England.
