“Um, excuse me?” Vanessa spoke, her voice wasn’t kind, but certainly wasn’t unkind either, instead just a bit dry and borderline emotionless. “Hasn’t anyone ever told you it’s not polite to stare?”

Bird Watching

Stein is annoyingly bored. Frustration leaks from every pore of his being. He groans, lighting a cigarette and getting up from his desk chair. No projects left. School is on break so he pretty much has no job.

May as well go to a park or something, right? So that’s what he’s doing.

He adjusts his glasses, sitting under a tree with a few books. It’s almost as if he brought a mini library with him. Many books about birds. Not a small park either. Plenty of trails in the woods, plenty of places for picnics but no, he’s chosen a tree and books and birds. Sometimes you just need the same thing, but somewhere else.

Maybe he’ll watch some birds.
