About 21 years ago I played a new superhero MMORPG with a couple of my friends. It was called City of Heroes, and I really liked it. MMOs weren't totally my jam back then, but I played sporadically until it shut down about 8 years later. Then in like 2018, it came back as a fan-run project called Homecoming.
So this is going to be a series of posts about my City of Heroes OCs. I play CoH: Homecoming on the Excelsior server. The character above is my main, Library Tech Support. He's a scrapper with the Staff Fighting and Dark Armor power sets. I gave him the Technology origin, but I think of him more as a Tech/Magic fusion character.
This all started when I saw a piece of art on DevArt one day while browsing stuff tagged "lich":
Tumblr media
I pasted it into my tabletop D&D group's discord and made the joke that this is what I'd look like in hundreds of years when cyborg technology became advanced enough (they're all well aware of my lich obsession). Naturally, I would change my name to Lord Technicus Supportron (I do tech support IRL).
I loved the concept and color scheme so much that I made a HeroForge remix of it which you might remember from this post.
And then, because the concept was really stuck in my head, I tried making a version of him in the City of Heroes character designer, which is almost as fun as HeroForge's. I wasn't playing CoH regularly at that point, but this character changed all that.

I eventually merged this character (originally named Technicus Supportron) with another character named Library Tech Support, who was based on me IRL.

Then, as you can see, I created a progression of costumes that leads from me in the present day (left) to me in the far future (right).
The original backstory of Technicus Supportron was that he'd travelled back in time after having solved every technical issue in the world of his origin era. Once I'd merged the characters, I decided to leave the origin really generic: The staff is from the future probably, and he's just a tech support guy who knows some spooky magic.
I now actually spend more time in the silvery/bionic costume, but the terrifying cyberlich is still a close second.

So I guess all of this is to say: big ups to Trollfeetwalker for inspiring me to completely abandon World of Warcaft in favor of this ancient superhero game.
