2018 Season Predictions: Seahawks & Wildcats
2018 Season Predictions: Seahawks & Wildcats
For the first time since 2011, I do not expectmy Hawks to make the playoffs.  Too many areas of uncertainty, and too little margin for error now.  The Rams are the class of the NFC West now, and the talent gap between them and us seems way too big with the dismantling of so many pieces on the legendary Legion of Boom.  Couple that with a brutal schedule midseason, and you’ve got a recipe for a…

Everyone fears this weekend. College football weekends are the land of plenty, especially in these days of TV contracts and more than 50% of the games being on TV, we are treated to great matchups and games we didn’t think being great turning into instant classics. There is however, the dreaded Week 12. This is a weekend of tune-up games and nothing matchups. However, there are some gems in the desert of this football weekend, so let’s see if we can find some.
YOU KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!!
I don’t know about you but I love Big 12 football. Don’t get me wrong, I love defensive struggles (not Michigan State-Nebraska style…that’s just refusing to have an offense), but I love watching a team score with, oh I don’t know…:42 seconds left...

And know that I have to watch till the end, because the defense is 1939 French Army levels of paper thin…

But how about that defense getting one stop! Somewhere, a tear just ran down Pat Dye’s face.
So what does this do...well if you are a college football fan that wants to avoid anything and everything in the state of Alabama this weekend, your Friday is at least taken care of. It’s a 3 team race for the Big 12 title. Texas must beat Kansas at 11 am to punch their ticket for the title game. The evening is where the fun begins though. Oklahoma travels to Morgantown for the final spot in the title game, unless Texas loses, then it would be part 1 of a back to back game (at least as best I can guess…but I think I’m right).
Also on Friday evening, Washington and Washington State battle in the Apple Cup for the Pac-12 North title, so ya got that going for ya too.
IMITATION IS THE GREATEST FORM OF….OH NO…NOT LIKE THIS…
Full disclosure, I am a fan of the World Champion Red Sox (but not one of those loser fans that only know when they play the Yankees and wears the B hat because I’m a bandwagon fan, I actually follow the minors and the draft, those of you that read my Auburn baseball write ups in the Spring know that this is legit), so this is cringe worthy on a different level for me than most. Notre Dame and Syracuse played at Yankee Stadium this weekend, which is awesome. I like playing games at different sites so that fans can go see teams they normally don’t get to see. However, Notre Dame made a special uniform to celebrate the fact they were playing in the Bronx…

SWEET CATFISH HUNTER THOSE ARE HARD TO LOOK AT! If the pinstripe pants aren’t bad enough, WHERE IS MY GOLDEN DOME HELMET!?! It’s just wrong….JUST WRONG!!
So how did they look in action you ask….well…

Let’s….let’s just not speak of this game….ever….Notre Dame won…that’s what you need to know.
SPEAKING OF BASEBALL
Let’s just keep on with the baseball theme as SunTrust Park hosted a college football contest as Jacksonville State took on the Fighting Owls of Kennesaw State. Everything was going fine until the Owls tied it up in the 4th to push the game into overtime. THEN IT WENT INSANE, with both teams getting matching TDs, extra points, and two point conversions, until the 5th OT! KSU was able to get their 2 point conversion to take an 8 point lead and then, this happened…
The first-ever football game at @SunTrustPark ... a FIVE-OT THRILLER capped by this @kennesawstfb game-winning interception. What a game. pic.twitter.com/hfg6HG5kvv
— FOX Sports South (@FOXSportsSouth) November 18, 2018
Gotta love watching fans storm a baseball park. It’s like watching an old school video of the Giants winning the pennant or when Hank Aaron hitting 715 and people running up to shake his hand. Good for you Owls for hanging in there and a rough loss for JSU.
That’s what I saw this weekend. I know I didn’t mention some things, so feel free to join in on the pointing and laughing in the comments!

Watch: USC ends Utah's upset bid by stuffing last-minute 2-point conversion

Thoughts on BCS Rankings
LSU - We'll see. Playing very well balanced games. Able to keep defenses on their toes with a strong running game, as well as a passing game led by two QBs - Lee and Jefferson. Will know more in six days.
Alabama - Same thing. I obviously think they should be numero uno, but that's probably because I'm slightly biased. Hoping that the bye week has gotten everyone's heads in the game, after a 'slow' [read: really bad] start against UT.'
Oklahoma State - whooped up on Baylor this weekend (and yet people still think RG3 [Robert Griffin III] has a chance at the Heisman. Pfft), biggest game so far was a 1 point win over TA&M, and a 12 point win over #22 Texas. Still has to beat #14 KState this weekend, Texas Tech next weekend, and #6 Oklahoma to finish the season. Doubt they'll make it through unscathed.
Stanford - and America's favorite QB, Andrew Luck. Still not convinced after this weekend's shootout in triple overtime with unranked USC. If a Lane Kiffin team can give them trouble, it should be a good game against Oregon next weekend.
Boise State - just not impressed. Pretty sure if I played in uniforms that were camouflaged against my turf, I'd win some games too. And congratulations, you beat Georgia. So did Colorado last year.
Oklahoma - ranked highest in the once-beaten category. Mainly because of the computer's love affair with them. Demolished #8 KState this weekend, after losing to Tommy T's unranked Texas Tech (who I will admit I now cheer for. Will explain later). Still have to play TA&M and #3 OKState.
Arkansas - Lost to the best team in the nation (seriously, not biased). Strong offense, but barely pulled out wins over SEC jokes Ole Miss and Vandy the past two weekends. Not to mention a close win over Texas A&M to start the month. Need to get their heads on straight with a finishing schedule including #9 South Carolina and #1 LSU.
Oregon - continuing to recover from a loss to #1 LSU first week of the season (40-27), but should be ranked higher than Oklahoma. Losing to the top ranked team in the country is better than losing to an unranked team. No sense. Probably ranked so low because of their horrible uniforms every other game.
South Carolina - recovering from the loss of star RB Marcus Lattimore, and finally getting rid of the nasty Stephen Garcia. One loss to an unranked (and bad) Auburn. Much tougher road ahead with a game at #7 Arkansas this weekend, and finishing the season at #11 Clemson. Doubt they'll end the season this high. Am impressed with the way they are continuing to fight after being dealt many hard blows, though.
Nebraska - Maybe a little low on the rankings, only loss to a then undefeated Wisconsin. Rolled over a seemingly defenseless Michigan State this past weekend (24-3). Finish the season out with a couple of important games against #16 Penn State, and #15 Michigan.
Clemson - stomped by a 23rd ranked GTech this past weekend in Atlanta. Had a couple of good wins early in the season, but were becoming overrated pretty quickly. This past weekend really showed some holes in their armor. Finish the season with a couple of teams from North Carolina, and #9 South Carolina.
Virginia Tech - Way too highly ranked for a team that only beat a 3-5 Duke by 4 points. Seriously? Regardless, the Hokies from Blacksburg finish out the season with GTech, UNC, and surprisingly okay UVA.
Houston - Meh. Unbeaten, but not at all impressive. Read my AP poll theories about how Case Keenum really isn't that great. Pretty sure I could throw the football just as much as he does against some of those teams.
Kansas State - demolished by #6 Oklahoma this past weekend. Haven't really seen them play, so I can't make fun of them too much. They play #3 Oklahoma State this weekend, and finish out the season with games against TA&M and #21 Texas. Good luck to y'all.
Michigan - Loss to #23 Michigan State earlier in the year, and they're ranked this highly? Sorry, the next best team they've played is Notre Dame (aka the Fighting a Losing Battle Irish). Not impressed. Finish out the season with a bunch of nobodies, and #10 Nebraska.
Penn State - (Public Service Announcement: Joe Pa, for the love of all that is holy, retire! You do nothing to help your institution. You've set a record, time to go.) Honestly haven't given a hoot about them since Alabama rolled through Happy Valley. Haven't played anyone else of meaning, almost lost to Illinois. Super impressive [obvious sarcasm, I hope for your sake, reader, that you can pick up on that]. Finish the season with games against #10 Nebraska, #20 Wisconsin, and Ohio State. Guess you won't be getting 411 wins, JoePa.
Michigan State - although I love my Spartans, after a last second win over Wisconsin, came out the next weekend looking sluggish and got clobbered 24-3 by #14 Nebraska. Finish out the season with a bunch of easy games, hopefully.
Georgia - Oh, Georgia. Somehow pulling out a 24-20 win over a struggling Florida this past weekend, and you're in the top 20. Congratulations. Guess Mark Richt can stick around another year. I will never forgive him for letting #5 Boise State walk out with a win, though.
Arizona State - Beat Missouri, and USC this year, but lost to Oregon and Illinois (I feel like they've been mentioned quite a lot in this post to not be ranked). So, I guess they're kind of legit? I haven't paid enough attention to the Sun Devils this year to be able to comment. Beat Colorado this weekend. Whatever.
Wisconsin - oh my poor badgers. Couldn't pull out a win against Ohio State this past weekend, after OSU threw a last second Hail Mary pass to seal the game. Also had a heart breaking last second loss to #17 Michigan State the week before. Although they did beat #10 Nebraska. Finish out with Illinois, Minnesota, and #16 Penn State.
Texas - Texas? Where did you come from? With a loss to both of the big schools in Oklahoma, I'm pretty surprised they're ranked. Oh computers, you make no sense to me. Handily beat 2-6 Kansas this past weekend. Woohoo. Will be out of the rankings this weekend after losing to Texas Tech.
Auburn - Oh look, another team undeserving of a ranking. Let's leave it at that for now. I'm sure there will be a more in depth article later this week talking about why Auburn doesn't deserve a mention in the top 25.
Georgia Tech - Knocked off then unranked Clemson. But has lost to Miami and UVA (pfft), so we'll see how it goes when #12 VTech comes into town. Also finish off the season with #18 Georgia.
West Virginia - Lost to #1 LSU and unranked Syracuse this season. Beaten no one of importance. Guess we're running out of 2 loss teams?
Southern Miss - uh, lost to Marshall? What are you doing on here? Oh Southern Miss, bless your heart. Although you did handily beat everyone else, closest game being a 30-24 win over UVA. Semi-notable beat downs - Navy (63-35, ouch), and SMU (27-3).
Honorable mention: Texas Tech. Should be ranked. Will be after beating #22 Texas this weekend. Rough loss this past weekend to Iowa State (as in rough to watch. Ouch). Also lost to TA&M and #14 KState. Took down #6 Oklahoma, and play #21 Texas, #3 OKState, and Missouri.
