How to get over a boring lecture
Lectures can be an extremely boring affair when it doesn't lie in the purview of our area of interest. Every student can understand the pain of sailing through a boring lecture. Constant yawning and murmuring forms the basis of an uninteresting lecture. In this article let us try to find out how a student can sail his boat through a boring lecture without really killing his precious time.
Lectures can sometimes be really boring and it gets really difficult for a student to maintain his concentration throughout the session especially when the topic of lecture doesn't form his area of interest. This situation is something really common in any student's life. And almost each one of us has encountered number of such instances wherein we felt the same. Hence, this article is going to suggest you steps to overcome such situation
· Try to stay involved in class
Trying to stay involved in the class helps you in dealing with such situation. When a student put a bit of extra efforts like taking notes or trying to understand what the teacher is trying to convey will definitely lead to form his interest even in the boring class. But if that student continues to stay the same way and continue yawning, then this feeling of boredom would only multiply rather than getting any better.
· Always try to pre-read about the next topic
This is a step ahead of any boring class and as a precautionary step so as to avoid that. When a student pre-reads what is going to be discussed in the next class, he tends to find himself involved in the class discussion. He tends to be more alert and his level of concentration automatically enhances. Thus, this forms the basis of not finding a lecture boring. I remember, during my last lecture on effective essay writing, when I pre-read the topic, my level of interest immediately multiplied.
· Go and sit in the front row
When a student sits in the front row, under constant scrutiny of the teacher his, sleeping sensation automatically vanishes. This fear not only helps in getting rid of sleeping sensation but also allows us to maintain our concentration throughout the lecture. Sitting in the first row may seem a bit awkward to you especially when you are not someone who often sit there, but never underestimate the power of constant scrutiny. It keeps you in check. Trust me when I say that. Been there, done that.
· Get enough sleep well in advance
This boredom and constant yawning could be an outcome of inadequate sleep that you had the previous night. Inefficient sleep has the power of making even an interesting lecture boring. Then, in your case, this could be an outcome of inefficient or inadequate sleep in real. Always try to have a proper sleeping session of 8 hours each night. Sleeping has an unsaid and incomparable power that should never be taken for granted. Respect that.
I hope this article was successful in throwing enough light on the expected topic. Wish you lots of luck and happy learning.

Here's another Linkedin recommendation from Dr. Rosetta Codling. I met her while selling my books in Harlem. She invited me to come speak to her English class at Purchase University (up near Mt. Vernon, NY), on the relevance of Urban literature as it relates to minority students. Her students were composed of those who were going to teach in or urban communities, and those who were already teaching in the same communities, and were obtaining extra accreditations. Most of her students were Caucasian. So its important that they understand the importance of literature that reflects the cultural environment of those they're teaching (students of African descent and Latino.) . . . It was a very interesting dialogue I had with them, and they requested for me to come back. Which I did, and this time the back and fourth talk was a lot more intimate. Rosetta Codling Independent Researcher September 17, 2017, Rosetta was a client of Therone’s Official: Mr. Shellman is one of the most creative, hardworking, and honorable men that I have ever known. He developed a publishing company independently. He created a venue for new writers independently. He, also, writes novels which express an independence of the soul. Mr. Shellman has crafted his destiny. Fate may have paved a different path, for him, after many tribulations. However, Mr. Shellman is in total control of realizing his goals. Hardworking is Mr. Shellman. He completes all tasks. Creative describes Mr. Shellman because he is authentic and expresses such on script. Honorable is the term to describe how trustworthy and true that Mr. Shellman is. I recommend Mr. Shellman very highly for any post that engages his skills. This month marks the tenth anniversary of my first and last lecture. In April 2007 I was invited by Students in Design at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO to give a presentation. In conjunction I held an epic art exhibition composed of pretty much everything I’d made in my first five years of operation as DJG Design (Or, whatever we could haul in a Kia Rio from Kansas City, MO). Let’s just say it was a lot to tackle and downward spiraled me a great deal for a season. Despite my doubts, some say it went well. (Thank you.) Regardless, this was a one-off special event for me and I’m happy it was at the great place where I learned a few things (and in the very auditorium where I once snored through history of design lectures). I thank them for the opportunity. So, I’ll commemorate by sharing a chronology of some of my lecture slides. These being from birth (1979) to leaving college (2001). I have since exchanged my design umbrella and odyssey for one of an artist. But, occasionally I design-dabble when the voices and visuals strike. And I’m still pleased with the way these slide visuals turned out. Oh, and here’s the poster co-designed and put to letterpress by my old friend Doug Wilson.

Today’s tech-savvy colleges and universities can offer virtual campus tours, complete with interactive maps. They’ve got blogs, YouTube channels and live web cams. While those are all nice additions, nothing can quite replace an on-campus college tour. It’s those campus tours that help you get an authentic “feel” of prospective colleges.
Plus, you get to pepper your tour guide and admissions officials with questions that delve deeper than the stats on the website. (Pro tip: Ask some students for their opinions, because they’ll likely give you unscripted, candid answers).
Here’s 7 questions to ask when you’re on a college visit:
What’s the average class size? Then, get specific about this. How many students are in introductory classes? What about upper-division classes? Are there opportunities for small seminars? Colleges often advertise their average class sizes on their websites, but there’s such a wide range between, say, an introductory sociology class and an upper-division lab practicum. It’s also a great idea to ask students how accessible their professors are and whether their instructors and professors can be easily reached during office hours.
Lecture halls should inspire and support modern learning. The Moncton is just one example of how to get students excited about learning. A well-designed seat goes a long way.

What’s the job market like for graduates? Colleges will take post-graduation surveys to measure things like how successful their graduates are at finding jobs or getting admitted to advanced-degree programs. While you may be able to “do your homework ahead of time” and find that information online, it’s a good idea to ask current students about the resources offered at career and internship offices on both a departmental and college-wide level. Having an internship during college can help you network and make it easier to land a job after graduation.

What sets your student body apart from others? So you’ve read online about the school’s renowned physics department or know that your prospective college’s women’s basketball team are Sweet 16 repeats during March Madness. But, what’s the pulse of the student body that’s not so obviously online? Maybe your college is especially politically active. Or, maybe, the school just so happens to really cater to vegans and vegetarians, with on-campus cafeterias offering great meals for those on plant-based diets.
When in #Denton, we must feast at #MeanGreens at the #vegancafeteria. I miss coming here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day as a #UNT student.

What classes are hardest to get into? Or is there a professor who is an academic all-star whose class you must get in? Whether it’s an elective every student, no matter their degree program, wants to take or a professor that’s just known for giving profound lectures, every school has a few classes that are equivalents of concerts that sell out fast. Find out what they are early on so that you can be on your A-game at registration.

What’s on tap for the school in the next few years—whether it’s campus construction projects or degree programs? Whether you’re there for a one-year exchange or enrolled in a four-year bachelor program, your campus community will be your new home. Find out if there are any upgrades happening in the weight room at the recreation center or renovations to the library to make it a comfy space for those late-night study sessions. Also, to keep up with changing industries, colleges are adding new degree programs and tracks, which might fit into your college goals.
Last night I taught a Music Rights lecture at Golden West Cillege in Huntington Beach. After the lecture, the students broke off some songs and recorded into the night. #recordingstudio #gwc #goldenwestcollege #huntingtonbeach #college #teaching #collegelectures #studiolife #theoc #orangecounty

Should you ditch your car? In many college towns, it’s more of a hassle to have a car. Parking might be limited in nearby neighborhoods and campus parking passes are often expensive. Is the college town and campus walkable? What’s the bus service like? Are Uber and Lyft active in the area should you need to get to nearby cities? Also, many campuses and college towns have bikeshare programs to help you get around.

What kind of financial aid is available? This one comes with lots of follow-ups, too! It’s worth inquiring about the average debt-load of graduating students. Asking about loan default rates can also help you glean whether students are getting high-enough-paying jobs to balance their debt loads. When it comes to financial aid packages, how much is in the form of loans and how much are awarded as grants? Also, how competitive are work-study jobs?
Second place. It's not first, but we did our best and had a fun time doing it. #lovecooking #culinary #competition #yellowribbon #scholarshipmoney

A few days ago a friend of mine and I decided to be more productive from now on because the exam period starts soon. So we came up with the idea [so it’s christmas in a couple of weeks and the advent calendar season begins] of a study advent calendar. We wrote and folded 24 cards, on each a different lecture topic and we have to pick one every day and review the picked topic for at least 30 minutes. Today is DAY ONE and I picked CHEMESTRY ! ✨ #StudyAdventCalendar17 Feel free to get productive as well and make your own Study Advent Calendar. 📚🧡
PS: that’s how my desk looks like during study periods.
