Prime Numbers vs. Composite Numbers
Here's a quick and easy exercise you can do with your son or daughter to develop their understanding of numbers: List all the prime numbers from 1 - 20. Then list all the composite numbers from 1 - 20.
A prime number is a positive number that has only two factors, 1 and the number itself. The number 3 is an example of a prime number because its factors are only 1 and 3.
1 x 3 = 3
Composite numbers, on the other hand, have more than two factors. For example, the number 4 is a composite number because it has 3 factors (1, 2, and 4.
1 x 4 = 4 2 x 2 = 4
