AHOY THERE! The good ship Easterly Artists sets sail next month, with a fresh wind behind her (not difficult, given the current forecasts), and bound for new artistic horizons! That, at least, is the aspiration as we announce our first exhibition for 2022 “Easterly Artists at The Grit” – and the first in our new home at Lowestoft’s newest arts hub, The Grit Arts Centre in the Old Court House. Earlier this week, @journojon Jon Wright of BBC Radio Suffolk dedicated a large part of his “Tuesday Take-Over” show to Easterly Artists’ Winter exhibition “Art for all Seasons”, spending over 2 hours of the programme discussing their work with 10 of the participating artists. The results provide a fasinating insight into the thinking of those members: what makes them “tick”, what they hope to achieve and what their work means to them – together with their favourite music tracks. For the past two and a half years, Ni has been experimenting with using torn and cut paper stencils to make bold, simplified, non-figurative and often colourful prints. Some are “hard edge colour field” images, some use transparent overprinting techniques and some use colour gradations to create complex images. I think they liked it! As the sun sets on another pop-up gallery and exhibition in the disused Ladbrokes building on Lowestoft's Triangle Market, it's always nice to read the comments in the Visitors' Book.
