How Google Identify Who Is The Same Author of Content
Tumblr media
Google's John Mueller explains a method called reconciliation that recognizes when the same author has different content on the site. This theme is addressed in the SEO hangout reported by Google Search Central on 23 April. A website owner asks Mueller what is most critical about including links to social media accounts or an e-mail address on the author's page.
Google on Recognizing Authors:
The short answer to that question is, it is better to link on an author's page to a social media profile. At least, whatever the author decides to associate with on his website it has to be ensured across the site. The aim is to bring together all signals like a social media profile to a central location. For instance if an author links to their Twitter account regularly, then Google will recognise that behind multiple author pages they are the same individual. Mueller said “When it comes to things such as author pages, author or other information or information about individuals in general behind a web site, an article or something, what I see on our side is that our systems attempt on the basis of a variety of factors to understand who it is, what the individual is. And there are items such as links to, for example, the profile pages or visible information on these pages.”
Mueller refers to a retired type of formal information mark-up known as the authorship. Many new to SEO may not know the author's background. In other words, it's markup which can be used to tell Google who wrote a content object. Although Google showed a photograph of an author at some point in search results, that's old history in the years of SEO. "We used to have an annotation rel="author" long time ago, and all older SEOs are now facepalming but basically it is something that we try to apply this structured data directly. For some time now the rel="author" annotations are not being used at Google anymore, but we are trying to understand who the person is behind the author's page. And it is very plain to many writers that there's one name and that one name is quite obviously connected with that one person. Then Mueller recognizes more complex cases in which many individuals of the same name all have web-based sites.
Other writers with similar names may be the same persons without a connection to a central location, such as a social media profile. “It could be a little more difficult for other people. Just like me, John Mueller, for instance. You can see Wikipedia sites, barbecue restaurants, bands, people of all sorts who are named John Mueller while searching for me.”
